2020 CAMP CATALOG Experiences & Adventures For All Abilities
DEAR FRIENDS, As we begin a new year in 2020, we embark on our 65th year of providing high quality experiences and programs that empower the families we serve and their loved ones. Thank you for trusting us for 65 years! To ensure our programs meet your expectations and needs, we ask for feedback each time we serve you. Based on your experiences and feedback, and program demand, we have made a variety of changes for the 2020 season. What does this mean for you and camping services? • In 2020 Camp Eden Wood in Eden Prairie will provide an expanded Day Camp program. As one of our highest demand programs, we are excited to be making this change and open more opportunities for families and their loved ones to receive this experience. For campers who prefer the overnight camp, we have created additional capacity at Camp Friendship in Annandale and Camp Courage North near Bemidji. • As we aspire to our value of safety and understanding of the complexities of the participants we serve, we have changed the way in which we register participants for 2020. An application will be considered complete and ready for True Friends staff review when all documents and questionnaires have been received. Applications will not be processed or reviewed until all documents and questionnaires have been received. • How we collect information regarding medications has been updated. Please see page 5 to learn about required documents to streamline the process for individuals attending multiple sessions. Medication information will be collected from both a medication list provided by a health care professional, as well as a separate True Fiends Medication Administration Record. As always, we also require individuals to pre-set their medications in packs to bring to camp. Other highlights and reminders regarding Summer Camp 2020 include: • Deposits are required for private paying participants. Participants responsible for paying a deposit will not have their application processed until a full deposit is received. • A Coordinated Service Support Plan (CSSP)/Consumer Support Plan (CSP) is required for individuals using Waivered Service Funds (BI, CAC, CADI, DD, CDCS, EW). The CSSP/CSP must be sent with your application. Applications will not be confirmed or processed until a CSSP/CSP has been received. Please contact your Case Manager to obtain a copy or for additional questions. • Financial Assistance is a benefit in choosing the True Friends family of services. True Friends offers a limited financial assistance program to help those in financial need attend a camp session. Our finance team is available to discuss payment plans, financial assistance, and other funding avenues available to you to pay for camp. If you have any questions about the application contact the Customer Relations team at 952.852.0101 or registration@truefriends.org. If you have questions regarding payments or financial assistance contact the Finance Team at 952.852.0132 or payments@truefriends.org. We look forward to seeing you this summer! In friendship,
Conor McGrath, Director of Camping

SUPPORTING CAMPERS FOR A SUCCESSFUL EXPERIENCE True Friends partners with families and caregivers to make each individual’s experience successful. In order for us to do this we need caregivers and families to provide extensive information about each individual. True Friends acknowledges not all individuals are appropriate for the “camp-type” setting in which the program is provided. True Friends is a licensed home and community based basic support service; we are not an intensive or crisis service organization. Therefore, True Friends reserves the right to deny services to individuals who we believe pose a safety threat to themselves, other individuals, and/or employees.
MOTIVATED, CARING, AND HIGHLY TRAINED STAFF Our amazing staff are the reason individuals love True Friends Camps. We hand pick our team from hundreds of applicants from across the country and the world. Our outstanding staff members are college students, young professionals, and teachers who share a passion for working with people of all walks and rolls of life. No matter their previous experience, True Friends staff attend between 1-3 weeks of in-person training and 12 hours of online courses to prepare them to care for the needs of each individual. Staff are trained by our Registered Nurses and camping professionals; from verbal cues to total assistance, our staff are here to help parents and caregivers sleep easy and give individuals a positive camp experience like no other.

A BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF CAMP Every day is a new adventure at True Friends Camps. Each of our four locations deliver quality care, trained staff, and amazing opportunities for fun, growth, and friendships. Our camp managers and their teams are dedicated to providing positive, life-changing experiences. Whether you have been attending a True Friends Camp for years or if you are just entertaining the idea, we know the choice to send your loved one to camp is done with great care. In order to paint a more complete picture of camp, below are some of our intentional program elements.
CAMP LIFE AND CABIN PLACEMENTS Our camp managers, with the help of their seasonal leadership team, read each application in order to create an environment for success. Cabins and day camp groups are assigned with session, gender, age, sensory needs, and routine in mind. Staff live in the cabins with individuals to provide the highest level of care. Campers will work with a team of staff members to ensure each individual's unique needs are fulfilled. Staff will get up during the night to attend to homesickness, illness, bathroom reminders, and personal care assistance, but True Friends Camps do not provide 24-hour awake staff.
HEALTH CARE The care of our participants is our number one priority. Each of our camps have a team of Camp Nursing Assistants. These high-level medical and nursing students pass medications, are onsite 24 hours a day, have advanced training in first aid, and give out popsicles on hot days. Individuals going on one of the Adventure Trips will be supported by a staff member who is a Wilderness First Responder.Â
SPECIAL DIETS We know camp is a change of scenery, but that does not mean it has to be a complete lifestyle change. Our fantastic kitchen team will meet individual dietary needs. For overnight programs, meals are served at 8:00 or 8:30 a.m. (depending on location/program), 12:30 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. The majority of special diet requirements can be met onsite or on a trip program. Day camp programs provide lunch and snacks as needed throughout the day.
