Approximately 25% of Jamaicans (15-74 years old) suffer from Hypertension while an additional 8% are affected by Diabetes. For this reason, JEP focuses primarily on educating individuals on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to prevent such diseases.

Each participating school proposed a project that could be used to either generate electricity or enhance energy consumption. Students were also given the opportunity to represent their school in the essay competition. The overall winner recieved J$500,000 to fund the energy system. WKPP donated J$120,000/ 950 USD towards the initiative.
