COLLABORATES WITH NEPA ON ITS MILLION TREE CHALLENGE JEP & WKPP Events

Corporate Social Responsibility

JAMAICA ENERGY PARTNERS

For the past twenty years, JEP and WKPP have focused substantial efforts towards preserving our island’s natural resources, through various environmental initiatives including participating in National Tree Planting Day. To commemorate this initiative, geared towards protecting and managing our environment, we partnered with the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) on its “Million Tree Challenge.” The

Jamaica Million Tree Challenge is a national initiative that encourages Jamaicans to plant trees with the aim of planting 1 million trees by June 30, 2019. Observed under the theme, “Today’s Trees, Tomorrow’s Future,” the challenge is a continuation of the Trees for Life campaign which focuses on improving the island’s natural biodiversity, green coverage and our overall resilience to the impacts of climate change. “At JEP, we take pride in protecting the environment, as it is a central part of our corporate social responsibility portfolio. As such, in addition to planting trees, we are committed to supporting our

local initiatives, as well as ensure that we play our part in monitoring the quality of air in the areas in which we operate,” said Wayne McKenzie, President & CEO of Jamaica Energy Partners.

Yearly, JEP and WKPP employees participate in the highly anticipated tree planting exercise aimed at reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the air. Since 2011, both companies have planted over five hundred (500) trees at Holywell Recreational Park. This year, staff participated in ‘Plant Hours’ where they planted twenty-five (25) fruit trees at JEP and fifteen (15) at WKPP. On National Wood and Water Day, staff united to plant an additional four hundred (400) seedlings at Holywell recreational Park. As a further contribution to the environment, the population and our future, both companies donated one hundred and fifty (150) trees, to the twentysix (26) primary schools under JEP’s Scholarships Programme, to plant on their compounds. This new partnership with NEPA has granted us the opportunity to make a difference on an even larger scale, and further contribute to the preservation of our ecosystems, watersheds, and the atmosphere. Let us continue to uphold our commitment to positively impact and protect our environment, and encourage others to join us as we assist NEPA with planting one million trees by June 30, 2019!

PINK ENERGY! WKPP & JEP’s Theme for Breast Cancer Awareness 2017

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Jamaica. Each year, there are approximately 1.38 million new cases and 458,000 deaths from breast cancer globally. In honour of this worldwide initiative, West Kingston Power Partners installed pink lights atop the administrative building which glowed from October 19 - 21, 2017. Since 2016, JEP and WKPP have invested time and resources to educate staff, and the public on breast cancer awareness as well as the importance of annual screenings. As part of our steadfast support for the fight against breast cancer,

we have also made monetary contributions to the Jamaica Cancer Society and women battling this gruesome disease. To complement this year’s pink uplights staff participated in a ‘Pink Gatsby’ affair on Friday, October 20, 2017. Employees re-enacted the

popular 1920s theme, dressed in pink to show they support the cause. In true Gatsby style, staff engaged in a photo shoot with vintage props and a breast cancer awareness ensemble, all crafted in-house by CSR committee members. Following the gatsby photoshoot, employees were treated to an assortment of

pink yogurt and sorbet flavours courtesy of Tutti Frutti. To conclude our breast cancer awareness campaign for 2017, on Friday, October 27, staff released sixty pink lanterns at the beach neighbouring the Doctor Bird Power Plant. This activity served as a tribute to those we’ve lost to breast cancer, as well as persons battling the disease. We also recognized Ms. Lavern Howell, a member of JEP’s Casual Work Programme who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. JEP has committed to supporting her throughout this difficult time and she participated in the lantern release with staff. Furthermore, JEP followed up with Mrs. Harris, who the company assisted after her diagnosis in 2015. After discussions

with her daughter, Debbie Harris, Mrs. Harris is doing well and is in high spirits. The Harris family remains positive despite Mrs Harris’ diagnosis and hopes to receive a good report following her next check-up in January 2018. As part of our ongoing campaign to promote breast cancer awareness, JEP and WKPP will continue to acknowledge the initiative and encourage all women, and men too, to conduct regular screenings as early detection is key!

JEP ISSUES 40 BIRTH CERTIFICATES

JEP EARTHQUAKE, TSUNAMI AND FIRE DRILL At Jamaica Energy Partners, the safety of our staff and visitors are paramount to us. Reputable for its safety awareness initiatives and modern safety systems, JEP constantly seeks new ways to maintain a secure work environment for all. On Thursday, November 9, 2017, JEP conducted its final major drill for the year. Safety personnel exposed staff to the relevant safety procedures regarding how to respond in the event of an Earthquake, Tsunami, Fire and Tank Rescue emergency.

A birth certificate is a vital record that documents the birth and identity of a child. JEP, therefore, recognizes the need to sensitize parents and equip them with these certificates as it is required to validate the child’s identity throughout their lifetime. Birth Certificates are also important for children to present regarding educational and other official purposes. On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, JEP sponsored a total of forty (40) birth certificates to children in the Old Harbour Bay Community including the Blackwood Gardens Basic School, which JEP adopted in 2002. Public Relations and Digital Marketing Specialist, Moya Rose distributed these documents on behalf of the organization. September 2017

The day’s activities commenced with an earthquake drill where employees demonstrated the proper safety precautions to prevent injury or loss of life. Upon hearing the fire alarm, staff then relocated to the designated assembly areas, while medical first responders attended to an employee, who was ‘trapped’ inside. A cadre of firefighters and persons trained in basic life support were also present on site to extinguish a fire and respond to the tank rescue. Since October 2017, Jamaica Energy Partners has gone 473 days without lost time accident.

JEP PCI PLANT TOUR On Thursday, October 19, 2017, a group of twenty (20) students from the Professional Career Institute visited the Doctor Bird Power Station. The Plant Tour was part of the training requirement, to gain first-hand knowledge of the operations at the Power Plant. Professional Career Institute (PCI) is a community-based organization dedicated to tackling challenges that are faced by unattached youth. PCI provides technical, vocational and entrepreneurial skills training for at-risk youth and adults in Bog Walk and its surrounding communities. JEP continues to facilitate educational plant tours, as it provides students (and the programs of study) with real-time feedback that is essential for the program learning outcome process. As a result of this initiative, the company has established close ties with some of these educational institutions to achieve the learning objective. Several educational partnerships have also emerged due to these visits, which include student’s internships, curriculum development, completion of SBAs and student career opportunities.
