What Started The
War in the Ukraine? BY JEANNETTE JONES
Y
ou watch the news and you hear something about the Ukraine, but do you know what started it? First off, policymakers in Crimea signed a treaty saying that they are petitioning to be part of Russia. That is like Chicago petitioning to be part of Canada! Doing so is an act that shows the Crimeans are angry with Ukrainian interim Mayor Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. “Crimea was, is and will be an important part of Ukraine,” he said. President Obama said in a short-term statement from the White House, “Any conversation about the upcoming of Ukraine must contain the appropriate government of Ukraine.” Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that he has the right to use military services in Ukraine if he has to protect national Russians under danger in Crimea. Ukrainian officers say there is no danger and that Putin is using it as an excuse to take control of the section. As the trouble in Crimea continued, Ukrainian experts said the arrest of a leader of a pro-Russian movement in the eastern city of Donetsk caused major issues. Experts said he is a Ukrainian named Pavlo Gubarev, a selfproclaimed governor of Donetsk. 6 PERSPECTIVES
People were allowed to vote on March 16 on whether they want a separate republic of Crimea within Russia or within Ukraine. The separate region has a 60 percent ethnic Russian population, having been part of Russia until it was ceded to Ukraine in 1954 by the Soviet Union. But not everyone may be as keen on coming under Moscow’s straight influence. About 25 percent of the peninsula’s population is Ukrainian and about 12percent is Crimean Tatar, a predominantly Muslim group. Michael Crawford, a past British representative in Eastern Europe, signaled that whatever the result of the vote, it may not come to fruition. “For Russia to start choosing moments of the past Soviet Union, turning up studies in Kazakhstan or Latvia or wherever you like, to try to slice off minutes, would be beside worldwide law, and it would be something Vladimir Putin has said he doesn’t want to do.” In 1994, Ukraine approved to give up its Soviet-era nuclear collection in return for agreements -- hired by the United States, the United Kingdom and Russia -- of its international honor and freedom.
Who is Angela Davis?

Angela Davis was born on January 26,1944, in Birmingham, Alabama She married Hilton Braithwaite in the mid 1980’s Davis was in a movie called Black Is…Black Ain’t which shows how mixed people have been ignored for not being black enough She went to Humboldt University of Berlin She got awards from the American book awards Davis is known as a radical African-American educator and activist for civil rights and other social issues She knows about racial prejudice from her experiences with discrimination growing up in Alabama As a teenager, Davis organized interracial study groups, which were broken up by the police She also knew some of the young African-American girls killed in the Birmingham church bombing of 1963 PERSPECTIVES 7

FLAPPY BIRD

lappy Bird is a mobile game created by Dong Nguyen and published by GEARS Studios. The player controls the bird and helps it go through green pipes. You will repeat this process as you die when the bird hits the pipe or ground. The game was released May 24th, 2013, but gained popularity in 2014. During this time, its developer claimed that Flappy Bird was earning $50,000 a day from in-app advertisements. The game Flappy Bird was later removed from all app stores because of addiction. Players were

attempting suicide, destroying phones and more due to frustration. You can still play the game Flappy Bird if you did not yet uninstall the app. However, once it’s uninstalled, you can no longer re-download the app. My personal score in Flappy Bird is 15. Once you die on the game after so many times, the game starts to become addictive. Honestly, I have played Flappy Bird over 50 times (including every time I started over).

BY CHASE MOORE When it started In 2013 people in different states and cities made home videos and posted them on Youtube and then some of those videos were put on Best Vines. Some of the videos showed cool things like people doing multiple flips in one spot and people doing Michael Jordan basketball moves. There is also comedy from a guy by the name of Kingbeach who does funny raps. Dancing animals are a favorite too. Why do they show Vine videos? They show Vine videos because people want another funny and cool thing to watch besides music videos. It’s also a life learning experience because people are making videos and inspiring others to entertain people in different states.
Some of the Vine “stars” tell why they started: *Kingbach: He says that he started because he thought it would be a learning experience and he loves entertaining and comedy and that’s something he enjoys doing for a living. *Liam Matthew Wells: He says he likes to be on videos and for people to know him. He wants to be able to show the world that he is somebody, and he also likes entertainment and loves acting. *Dylan Sprouse: Dylan says he loves acting and loves being on social media and liking people’s pages and their videos, so he started being in Vine videos. our field reporter Treshaun Jackson has found what the Ferrari of the future will look like. Some people believe that the Ferrari is old and won’t be driven in the future. I beg to differ because the Ferrari is a fast car and forever will be fast. I believe the Ferrari will be the best car of the future.

Above is a photo of what some people believe what the Ferrari of the future will look like. I have to say that it looks sweet. If that’s going to be the Ferrari of the future then that would be my dream car.
According to Daily Mail Online, the Ferrari will have a stronger engine, a touch screen radio and it will go faster than 220 miles per hour. In my opinion it will be the best car of the future. PERSPECTIVES 11

y life in middle school was very challenging. When I came to PMA my whole life had changed from what I used to be. When I first started here I thought I was in for the worst, but I got to meet some great people here at this school; kind and extraordinary people that take time to teach and students who will allow teachers to teach them. The teachers take the time to deal with real life problems. Here at PMA I thought that everyone would be mean and

rude to people who are new to this school, but I was proven wrong. At a point in my life I thought that graduation was a joke, but it’s not a joke. It is what every person has to go through in life. Life is too short for you to wait on things to happen. You are the only one to make things happen in life. Life is way too precious to waste or give up on.
Teen Relationships

etween the ages of 11-15 teens start experiencing relationships and crushes. Teenage crushes have a significant role to play in the journey of adolescence. When teens start experiencing their first crush they feel more selfconfident in their choices and decisions or about themselves. Then, she or he attaches strong positive feelings toward their crush. Crushes have more to do with a fantasy than reality, but it’s because of the idea that crushes have so much more momentary control. There are two different types of crushes: identity crushes and romantic crushes. Identity crushes are formed by someone who a boy or girl much admires, likes and treats as a role model. Identity crushes refer to celebrities or famous
people. Romantic crushes are formed by finding someone whom a boy or girl finds attractive, who they feel happy around and who they want to spend their time with. Romantic crushes refer to your school boyfriend or girlfriend. In both cases with the crush, a lot of emotion is given to the object of their crush - wanting to be liked “by” them and wants to “be” like them. Also, they will do anything to get in good with their crush. Middle school students will really begin to gossip about their crushes with a lot of “guess who likes who” conversations.
