Design Challenge The objective of this project was to create a unique hotel experience catered to the characteristics of the assigned location. The building shell is based on a historical hotel building. Understanding the building core, architectural features, and how the levels work together was a major design consideration for this project. In addition to the challenge of a multilevel historic building, universal design and accessibility were considered throughout the retail, restaurant, ballroom, and suite spaces. Concept Sketch

Design Research Based on the patient experience at the Huseman Chiropractic Clinic in Fort Dodge Iowa, and the interview response from Stefan Stoebe, a practicing chiropractor at Hjort Chiropractic Clinic in St. Cloud, Minnesota, the design will incorporate more storage for all of the equipment used for various adjustments and practices. There will be more separation between the chiropractic rooms and the massage rooms to provide for patient privacy and comfort. The work spaces for employers will be centrally located to provide an efficient work flow. The size of the rooms will accommodate all the equipment needed and measurements will be based on those described in the article, “Customizing For Your Technique Chiropractic Office Design” By David Glen. This article also gave insight on the various specializations of chiropractic offices. The article, “Designing Your First Office” by Chireo.com gave insight on the possible layouts of chiropractic offices based on the volume of patients seen each day. This is important to better understand the workflow and how to ensure patients and employees both have good experiences when using the space. It is not as much about square footage as it is about how the square footage is being used. After all, the location and ease of access for patients is most important.

Design Concept This Panther Music Academy design encourages a sense of simplicity and sophistication. As aspiring young artists attend their music lessons and recitals, their surroundings will be well thought out and comfortable. The use of light and bright colors will create an inviting and fun space for instructors, students, and visitors alike.. Ample storage space is also provided for instruments, sheet music, and other equipment that may be needed. It will be an escape from everyday clutter and stress of life, as music is for many people.

Project overview
Building information
The purpose of this project was to prepare design plans for a non profit firm to better understand commercial design expectations. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is a nonprofit organization currently located in a New York, NY. They provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals in the United States by raising awareness of animal homelessness and cruelty and providing animal rescue, placement, and protection.
Although there are now many humane societies throughout the country, ASPCA was the first of its kind in the United States. It was founded in 1866 by Henry Bergh in New York, NY. The organization now employs over 800 staff members across the country and is looking to open a new office in downtown Chicago to the second floor of a fully sprinkled building, 77 West Wacker Drive, Chicago, Illinois. It is in a heavily populated area, near the river. Many attractions and restaurants are within walking distance, as well as many other corporations. Because of this location, the ASPCA wanted to incorporate a small kennel area in their office design. It will be centrally located for people to potentially adopt pets and raise awareness of the issues that they work hard to combat.

Design Concept
For the purposes of this project, we visited a vacant building near main street in Cedar Falls. It's empty shell had endless potential to become something new.
The bones of this brick building have an interesting story to tell. Its history as a boiler room for greenhouses left behind a unique space with unlimited possibilities. This particular design brings life back to the space by making it into a single family residence. I designed it specifically as my first home. The furnishings are eclectic and delicate to represent my own personal style. The open floorplan allows ample space for entertaining friends and family. Large arched windows allow lots of natural light and create a juxtaposition with the rough texture of the aged bricks and exposed ceiling. Spacious bedrooms with large closets and lots of storage will ensure organization and contain clutter. The overall feel for this space will be comfortable, private, and personal.

project overview In order to create a modern artist community for creative types to live, work, and thrive, there were many necessary considerations. After touring an art building on a college campus and talking to art professors and students about their needs and wants in a studio setting and living environment, it was clear they needed a balance of freedom to mold the space as they please as well as structure to ensure there is enough storage for their supplies and separation of spaces to accommodate different mediums. The large industrial building shell for this project offered plentiful space to suite the lifestyle of many artists under one roof.
