AN AUTOBIOGRAPHIC MONOLOGUE
As I said, that phrase saddens me. It not only tosses away the facts, it also dismisses the essential human interactions that make up life itself.
To be accurate, there is no such thing as “a one-man show”.
Yes, I single-handedly wrote ‘A Fine Li(n)e’. I directed it, blocked it, and have produced it. I am the only performer on the stage. However, it is anything but “a one-man show”. There are literally thousands of people who have their fingerprints all over the production.
Influences. Inspirations. Heroes. Teachers. Friends. Loved ones. Adversaries. And more.
Carl Sagan, Harry Chapin, Pete Townshend, Marina Abramović, Justin Townes Earle, James Randi, Yoko Ono, Penn & Teller, Julia Sweeney, Marcel Duchamp, Marcel Marceau, Doug Henning, Lenny Bruce, Garry Shandling, John Sebastian, Cass Elliot, Robert Zimmerman, Bruce Wayne, Kris Kristofferson, Tim Minchin, Frank Sinatra, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, George Tsongas, Michael Nesmith, Sloane Crosley, Joni Mitchell, Winter, Wavy Gravy, and a myriad of others are deeply rooted in my show.
Not to mention The Beatles. And, without doubt, Spalding Gray. Simply put, if it weren’t for Spalding, ‘A Fine Li(n)e’ would certainly not exist.

(And I truly apologize for leaving out any essential names; my broken brain has a very difficult time with tasks such as this.)
Plus, my show, and my life, would not exist without Dr. Carol Schramke. That’s simply a fact.
I guess what I am clumsily trying to say is “Thank you.” At its heart, this show is a thank you to those who have added their own special magic to this specific production.
