The site is carefully arranged to immerse visitors in the time-honored craft of distilling, with a large-scale production facility to the south and hospitality and administration to the north. Name by Food & Wine magazine as a “Texas-sized dream come true,” Firestone & Robertson’s Whiskey Ranch in Fort Worth, Texas is the largest whiskey distillery west of the Mississippi. The goal for the new facilities was to allow the company to increase production while providing an immersive experience that celebrates the craft of distilling and aging whiskey as well as the brand’s deep Fort Worth roots. The design team worked closely with the Owners to preserve a 106-year-old golf course on the 112-acre property by reconfiguring several fairways. After a year of design work and 15 months in construction, the results have exceeded all expectations.

The distillery’s design embodies the spirit of rugged elegance— a celebration of the beauty of resourcefulness. Perhaps the most unique aspect of the architecture is the attention that was paid to creating a total sensory experience. Every detail has a purpose, from where you smell and taste the ingredients all the way down to the feel of a deliberate creak in the wood planks underfoot.

Local sourcing and the procurement of character-rich building materials were critical to achieving the desired look and feel. The Stillhouse, Bottling House, barns and event center are pre-engineered metal buildings; with wood and timber structure in strategic areas of high visibility, including the executive offices, tavern and retail space.

Whiskey Ranch is fully-integrated working facility, maximizing both functionality and WHISKEY RANCH | TRYBA ARCHITECTS 9 quality of the visitor experience.
The design celebrates the beauty of function. Humble materials meticulously assembled serve as both an essential 10 tool for optimizing the distilling process and design feature.
Glazing surrounding the top of the 45-foot column allows daylight into the distillery and offers views of the surrounding hills.
The design team deliberately used the architecture to showcase the beauty of the distilling machinery. WHISKEY RANCH | TRYBA ARCHITECTS 11
At the heart of the project is a towering 45-foot copper column still, housed behind two 20-foot barn doors in the Stillhouse.

Buildings were carefully placed within the existing landscape to leverage reserves of well-established trees.

The processing equipment was specifically designed with both function and guest experience in mind.

On one side of the courtyard, guests have a view of newly filled barrels as they are rolled on traditional rails and loaded onto trucks that will transport them to the aging barn. On the other side of the aging barn, guests can see the mature barrels coming back out.
