Coming Home Our experience working closely with individuals and families is open and collaborative. With projects ranging in scope from renovation and restoration of historic homes to new construction at a range of scales, our designs celebrate each individual or family’s distinct character, heritage and identity. We bring design disciplines together to achieve unity between the landscape, architecture and interiors. Our commitment to design quality results in homes that are timeless, connected and livable, both indoors and out.

Integrated Art Program Through deep analysis and enjoyment of oneof-a-kind art collections, we create architectural frameworks that feature and support the art and its distinctive narrative while working in harmony with the rest of the home. The result is residences that inspire friends and community to connect and to understand, appreciate and be uplifted by outstanding works of art.

The use of wood—including an integrated L-shaped bookshelf framing views of the tree canopy—and access to natural light in the second-floor office space create a feeling of warmth and bringing nature indoors.

Connection to Nature Fundamental to human health and wellbeing, meaningful connections to the natural world are established in all our work. A focus on the complete integration of architecture and landscape blurs the distinction between City and Nature and imagines a healthier and more restorative urban ecology of place. Through thoughtful study of plants and landscape, materials selection, spatial connection, pattern and geometry, daylight and views, we create residential addresses that are beautiful, functional and rejuvenating.

Spaces change dramatically with the sun’s position through the day. 35
Changes in the cedar ceiling convey transitions between spaces while strategically placed clerestory windows along the home’s perimeter maintain a constant connection to nature.

An abundance of natural light floods the second office space.
Rather than providing guests with an immediate view of the home, the processional sequence is carefully planned to create a series of strategic reveals. The sky-lit entry niche directs movement into the open kitchen, dining and living areas, and finally to the owner’s bedroom and private living quarters.

Residence and art gallery balances public and private spaces   57
Stucco, cedar and glass are used in a cubist composition based on the Fibonacci series, reflecting the architect’s interest in classical proportion and the owner’s appreciation of fine art.
The program for this home called for a clear delineation between open entertainment areas, public and private space and an art gallery for the owner’s collection. The two-story art gallery serves as the central gathering space connecting all of the living areas, which face south to the landscaped yard. Extensive glazing, protected by deep overhangs, captures warmth and light and extends the living and entertaining areas to the outdoors. 58
