One hundred years after the original Grand Opening, a revitalized, restored and reinvigorated Denver Union Station reopened its doors, solidifying its position as the Region’s premier multi-modal transit hub. The transformation of Denver Union Station was undertaken with an intense commitment to preservation of the buildings' primary spaces, materials and detailing while creating a new boutique hotel within this beloved local landmark. The depot’s Great Hall is both the hotel lobby and the central station for the Region’s multimodal transit hub, integrating light and commuter rail, Amtrak, regional and local bus, taxi, bikes and pedestrians. Interior structural modifications included the insertion of a mezzanine level between the existing ground and second floors to create a four-story building. The addition of this mezzanine and reconfiguration of the attic is key to the financial viability of the Crawford Hotel. The Loft rooms in the former attic feature exposed wood timbers, luxuriously appointed bathrooms, vaulted ceilings, and modern art.

Architecture Urban Design Interior Design Entitlements

Situated on a historic 112-acre site southeast of downtown, Firestone & Robertson's new Whiskey Ranch is set within rolling hills with spectacular views of the Fort Worth skyline. The site is carefully arranged to immerse visitors in the time-honored craft of distilling, with a large-scale production facility to the south and hospitality and administration to the north. A beautifully manicured central courtyard serves as a connector and an outdoor event space from which guests can observe production operations while taking the skyline views. The goal for the new facilities was to allow the company to increase production while providing an immersive experience that celebrates the craft of distilling and aging whiskey as well as the brand's deep Fort Worth roots. Local sourcing and the procurement of character-rich building materials were critical to achieving the desired look and feel. The Stillhouse, Bottling House, barns and event center are pre-engineered metal buildings; with wood and timber structure in strategic areas of high visibility, including the executive offices, tavern and retail space.

Park Towne Place Museum District Residences are once again among the premier multi-family communities in Center City Philadelphia. Preservation, new design interventions, and enlivened programming have transformed the campus into a vibrant community. Major interventions included restoration of the building envelope; new openings and circulation paths; complete restoration of the 600-space underground parking structure; reimagined amenities including a 20,000 SF retail center; and fully renovated and reconfigured living spaces oriented toward city and river views. Capitalizing on the unique proximity to some of the country’s most prestigious cultural institutions such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art and The Barnes Foundation, the campus has been reconnected to the Parkway Museums District through a robust art program. The design of this new courtyard residence came from Pueblo vernacular architecture, which is a response to the Western environment. The result is a residence and gallery organized around a central courtyard, with protection on the north side using minimal windows, and extensive south glazing. This residence stands to demonstrate our studio’s collaborative strengths. Tryba’s principled design approach captures the essence of the Rocky Mountain region to foster a greater sense of community and connectivity, while also providing easy collaboration spaces— offering compelling experiences for consultants, alumni, clients, and guests. The goal of creating high-value collaborative spaces while reducing individual space needs was achieved by balancing the social spaces with heads down work zones and meeting rooms, with seamless technology. Tryba commissioned an art program for BCG throughout the entire office. BCG’s goal was to use local Colorado materials in a timeless and sophisticated manner. The team sourced Colorado Calcutta marble direct from Marble, CO, which was fabricated locally. The reception was positioned on the southern side of the building to ensure sweeping panoramic mountain views. Natural light flows into the reception and the community café, creating a warm and welcoming space.

After two successful BCG office projects together, BCG enlisted Tryba’s interiors team once again to reimagine the future of their workspaces in Detroit. A brand new 4-story office building is under construction next to Detroit’s Little Caesar's Arena, and BCG will be occupying the entire 2nd level. Building off the excitement of the next door Arena, the team has positioned the Café space and lounge on the southern side of the floor plate, to capture that exterior activity and share it with their social spaces. While corporate standards are required, the design team is creating a unique office experience that best reflects the culture of the Detroit office. The Tryba team is working closely with the Core/Shell Developer to ensure all of BCG’s office requirements are being accounted for during the construction of the base building. With the use of Revit technology and modeling, the team is able to walk BCG through a complete virtual reality rendering of their space, even before the building is complete.

This global tech company's growth continues to expand into the second building of Phase II on the Pearl Street campus. Our team is currently leading the design for both the core shell building concurrently with the interior design of the office spaces. The Phase II building is connected to the campus of the Phase I building, integral waterways, and views of the Flatirons. The project integrates the core and shell with architectural interiors to create an enlivened interior. A Colorado palette of materials emphasizes the company's premier location and position in the region. The concept of biosystems is brought forth from Phase I and enhanced with a network of trails in the layout of the Phase II building. The Silver LEED certified campus includes a rooftop PV system, exercises daylight harvesting, and utilizes LED lighting throughout, compost, recycling and trash systems and sustainable landscaping.

The 4th Level Café was positioned to capture Boulder’s best views both inside and out, as it connects to an expansive exterior terrace. The interiors use Douglas Fir wood to assist in creating shade along the floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall, providing better levels of comfort for the users.

The large exterior terrace on the 4th level is directly connected to the CafĂŠ, allowing users to choose between indoor and outdoor seating at any time during the year.

The second level micro kitchen was themed around Colorado’s Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, bringing in darker wood tones and finishes to emulate the rocky terrain of this landmark.

Google’s Boulder location at 2590 Pearl Street is a two-story office building situated on a seven-building campus. The space was in need of an upgrade and Google commissioned Tryba to renovate the interior with a distinctive theme while following the latest corporate guidelines and meeting an aggressive schedule. An experiential redesign of the space resulted in a community environment encouraging staff to connect and collaborate. The office subtly captures the essence of a sports and gaming theme, chosen to enhance collaboration and engagement and embrace the culture of Google. The office’s ‘Center Court‘ features two tournament table tennis courts, stadium seating, a climbing wall and golf simulator. A balance of social and heads-down work zones was a high priority for Google. Micro-kitchens, unique spaces and more contemplative areas are located along the circulation paths allowing for the open work areas to maintain access to natural light and views to the Flatirons.

Colorado Center is Denver’s premiere Transit Oriented Development, featuring an RTD Light Rail Station, FasTracks, CarShare, and a bike and pedestrian bridge across I-25. In response to this unprecedented access and central location between Downtown and Denver Technology Center, the design incorporates two new towers and a vibrant, 24-hour retail Main Street. Following the 2007 Tryba Architects Master Plan, more than one million square feet of development is underway on the 13-acre office, retail, and entertainment complex. The main reception and lobby space were designed to be a ‘Living Room‘ for this multiple tower office development. Comfortable seating, community tables and a fireplace were all designed with a hospitality mindset. Local Loveland, CO sandstone clads the elevator core walls and flanks retail entry spaces. A rooftop terrace and outdoor area add a first-in-class amenity for not only the building tenants but also for the Denver market as a coveted space for events.

Harbor Associates tasked Tryba with repositioning 821 17th Street in Downtown Denver. One of the Four Corners buildings in Denver’s financial and business district, the Ideal Building was originally built in 1907 and was reported to be the first major multi-story building to be built in reinforced concrete west of the Mississippi. In November of 2017 the building was purchased by Harbor Associates. The building has been rechristened ‘The Vault‘ and is conceived of as a repository of local history, memories and innovations. The upper floors of the building were reintroduced into the market providing fresh, light filled floor plates for a group of carefully selected office tenants. The lower floors are being restored and improved to provide a home for either a market hall retail concept or a marquee anchor office tenant. In order to attract future tenants, the team designed a spec suite with a community kitchen and furnished gathering spaces to show the potential of these unique historic floor plates for office use.

Office tenants enjoy food, beverage and retail elements on the lower floors.

The building lobby was thoughtfully renovated to merge the historic character of the space with a fresh and welcoming new look.

Geometric motifs from the historic bank interior were used to create bold, bike-tread-inspired graphics for the new bike room.

The dramatic new washroom amenity is inspired by the historic bank vault which anchors the space.

Tryba completed the renovation and adaptive reuse of The Glass Lab, a 46,000-square-foot former glass factory in the Portland Innovation Quadrant (Portland IQ). The team collaborated with Portland-based owner ScanlanKemperBard (SKB) and Lorentz Bruun Construction to turn the vintage two-story industrial building into a community-oriented creative hub for the next generation of creators and innovators. The team’s integrated approach balanced respect for the building’s 1950s warehouse-style architecture with the area’s forward-thinking ethos. Original building elements were restored and revealed, preserving the building’s historic character within an open, flexible work environment. The combination of exposed concrete, old-growth timber beams and tongue and groove wood floors helps to maintain a raw, authentic feel throughout the building while extensive window lines, soaring ceilings and large skylights keep the space naturally bright. Tenant suites feature storefront glass facing a main hall and lobby area to bring in natural light while also creating a sense of connectivity that supports the concept of collaboration between tenants.

Tryba Architects collaborated with SKB to re-brand the project with a new name and graphic identity, expressed throughout.

We are currently working with Equity Office Partners to reposition 621 and 633 17th Street in Downtown Denver. These two important towers were built in the 1960’s and 1970’s respectively and are linked by a plaza and infill building into a single office campus. Our work involves the redesign and activation of the lobbies of both towers, the construction of a new five story glazed link building providing integrated building amenities, a reimagining of the ground floor as a market retail space that activates and enlivens the surrounding public space and a redesign of the currently inhospitable plaza.

The original Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center, designed in 1936 by New Mexico architect John Gaw Meem, is considered one of Colorado’s ten most significant buildings and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The program for Tryba Architects’ 2005 expansion and renovation called for restoration to all public spaces and galleries and the addition of new permanent and temporary exhibition space, public meeting and event spaces, classrooms, artist studios, a restaurant and café and additional storage. The restoration of over 66,000 SF of existing structure and the addition of more than 66,000 SF of new building emerged as a carefully choreographed ballet of contrasts: between the old and the new, the earth and the sky; solid and void; concrete and glass; sun and shade.
