Power up to preserve PACWalk/Run 2013 The Tryon Tuesday School is hosting its annual barbecue fundraiser, including a silent auction and raffle, this Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Harmon Field. The event will also include carnival games, live music, face painting and lunch from Mountain View BBQ. Vegetarian options available. Fun for the whole family.

Pacolet Area Conservancy invites walkers and runners to take part in the ninth annual PACWalk and third annual PACRun 5K Trail Run at Tryon Estates, located at 617 Laurel Lake Dr., Columbus. Check-in from 7:15-7:45 a.m. for the run, which begins at 8 a.m. Check-in from 9-9:45 a.m. for the walk, which begins at 10 a.m. The event raises money for PAC, which aims to preserve our area’s natural resources. Commissioners will meet at the Mill Spring Agricultural and Community Development Center Monday, May 6 for a work session to discuss the future of agricultural economic development, farmland preservation and the Polk County Soil and Water Conservation Dis-
trict. The meeting will be held in the auditorium of the ag center at 7 p.m. in place of the regular Polk County Board of Commissioners meeting, typically held in Columbus. Commissioner Ted Owens said commissioners felt like it was time for the three boards and the commis-
