'A classy affair': LHS graduation by Jeff Byrd

The new Landrum High School on Friday evening graduated its first class to enter the new school as freshman, one hundred and four students who expressed eagerness to start the next phase of their lives. The commencement exercises, held in the Landrum High School gymnasium, were a “classy

affair” this year, Landrum high School Principal Brian Sherman said Monday. “It was one of our best graduations ever,” he remarked. “There was no hollering. It was really a classy ceremony. You don’t see that so much anymore.” (Continued on page 3)

Water/sewer rates to rise in Tryon New debt means almost $150k shortfall next year by Leah Justice

Tryon residents will likely see a rise in water and sewer rates soon. The increase will be needed to cover more than $300,000 in new debt.

Tryon Town Manager Justin Hembree has proposed a 10.45 percent increase in water rates and an 8.04 percent increase in sewer rates. Tryon Town Council said Tuesday the proposal was too high and directed Hembree to look for additional savings in the budget and cut the rate hike in half.
