September Spectacular PAC benefit set for Saturday The 2nd Annual September Spectacular horse show will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 at Harmon Field in Tryon. Held as the final event of the day, the Pacolet Area Conservancy Hunter Derby will be a tribute to the old fashioned hunter style of jumping over a challenging course of obstacles. The hunter derby will offer an unprecedented $2,500 in prize money. In addition to the lion's share of the prize money, the winner will also receive a beautiful engraved antique hunt scene challenge trophy. Tryon is known throughout the equestrian world as having contributed greatly to the roots of the hunter and jumper horse showing of today. The (Continued on page 4)

Grand opening for Polk adult day care now Oct. 17 Building to get new carpet after sprinkler problem by Leah Justice
Polk County’s new adult day care center’s grand opening has been pushed back a couple of weeks because of scheduling conflicts. The grand opening will now be held on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. at the center, located behind the

Meeting Place Senior Center off Skyuka Road near Columbus. The Polk County Board of Commissioners met Monday and agreed on the new date for the grand opening event. Rutherford Life Services, which will run the center, told commissioners that an actual opening date has not yet been determined.
