Landrum approves funding for quilt trail by Samantha Hurst

If you are interested in protecting the area’s water and natural environment, you may want to come to the Polk County Public Library Thursday, Feb . 23 at 6 p.m. for a presentation given by the Green River Watershed Alliance. The group’s purpose is to address the need to build a collaborative environmentally protective plan for the Green River watershed.

Landrum City Council members pledged the city’s support for the creation of a Landrum Quilt Trail during their meeting Tuesday, Feb. 14. “I think that it is a good project – I think it will bring a lot of people here,” said Councilman Johnny Carruth. Councilwoman Jan Horton agreed and made a motion that the city provide $5,200 in hospitality tax funding for the project. Ellen Henderson, a representative for the Landrum Quilters, which plans to organize the trail, said these trails create a lot of buzz for a community. “[Quilt trails] are known, where they exist elsewhere, to bring in tourism and for the economic impact they have on those towns (Continued on page 7)
