Prepare to ‘Ache’ Saturday, Sept. 22

Polk County Animal Control will hold a rabies clinic Saturday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Mill Spring Agricultural Center. Vaccinations will be available for dogs and cats, as well as goats, sheep, horses and cows.

Runners at last year’s Ache Around the Lake. The seventh annual Ache Around the Lake 8K race will be held Saturday, Sept. 22 at Lake Lanier. The Ache has become known as one of the “biggest little races” on the upstate S.C. and western N.C. running race circuit, boasting mountain and lake views and a challenging USAT&F-certified course. For less ambitious participants, there is also a 2-mile Ouch course, which is considered a fun run and is not USATF-certified. The Ache and the Ouch both start together on Butter Street. Registration will be at the Tryon Antique Mall parking lot from 6:30-7:30 a.m. on race day. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Center of Behavioral Medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital. Polk to consider allowing solar panel farms Planning board recommends text amendment by Leah Justice

Polk County commissioners are considering allowing solar panel farms in Polk County. The Polk County Board of

Commissioners met Sept. 10 and heard a presentation from farm owner Lionel Gilbert, who is requesting a text amendment to the zoning ordinance to allow solar farms in the Multiple Use (MU) and Industrial (I) zoning districts. Gilbert also presented the request to the Polk County Planning Board on Sept. 13, when the

board approved recommending the text amendment to commissioners. Gilbert requested permission to have a solar farm on his property, which is located in the MU district in Green Creek Township. Solar farms are not currently list-
