Jackson named LHS homecoming queen
In the second of three free Road Scholar lectures, Tryon Fine Arts Center will host Dr. Anne Rogers as she presents “Native Americans and Their Use of the Environment” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7. Rogers is an anthropologist specializing in archaeology and Native American studies. The lectures are provided by the North Carolina Humanities Council.

Landrum’s Senior Wednesdays begin tomorrow 41 businesses offering discounts by Leah Justice
People age 55 and older can take advantage of discounts in Landrum starting tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 3. The Landrum Area Business Association (LABA) recruited
41 businesses recently to offer discounts on Wednesdays and has advertised the campaign in publications. Landrum City Council met Sept. 11 and approved a proclamation declaring Wednesdays as senior days in Landrum. The discounts for seniors range from 10 to 25 percent off
on sales and services. LABA President Melanie Jennings said the LABA voted for the discounts to be offered to people age 55 and older in order to include a larger range of people. “We got the businesses to(Continued on page 4)
