Community unites to honor MLK’s legacy
Green Creek resident Kathleen Foster, cello, will be joined by Alison Moore, piano, for a concert on Sunday, Jan. 27 in the Daniel Recital Hall of Converse College. The concert, which features the Debussy and Rachmaninoff sonatas for cello and piano, will begin with the Couperin Pieces en Concert. The concert begins at 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

A crowd of community members filled the seats of the Tryon Fine Arts Center Friday, Jan. 18 to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hosted by the Thermal Belt Friendship Council, the annual Mar tin Luther King Jr. celebration focuses on a different aspect of the Civil Rights Movement and those who sacrificed much to fight for equal rights across the country and locally. This year’s event included selections from the Unity Choir, presentation of the Friendship Council’s annual scholarship and a tribute to the Freedom Riders. Friendship Council President Dr. Joseph Fox asked the question, “Could you get on the bus?” For more pictures, see page 3.
