ANTi-DESiGN MOVEMEnt

01

ABOUT “Kids got angry at the system, what’s new?” is a visual article made in response to the topic: Anti-Design, a movement that laughs in the face of rationalism and functionality, which in the world of design it can be defined as freestyle, brutal, raw, and superficially decorative elements or materials.

03

The Anti-Design movement sought to the harness power of design to create objects and living quarters that were unique rather than embracing style, mass production, consumerism, sales, and greed. This project features a print set: Newspaper, Poster, Postcard; and Web Article.

THIS PROJECT AIMS TO HIGHLIGHT THAT THERE ARE OTHER WAYS BESIDES THE ONE WE HAVE BEEN ABUSING LATELY; TO LEAVE THE OVERTHiNKING ASIDE, AND MESS AROUND A BIT.

04

05

This project is a team assignment for intern group in How About Visual. To convey this idea for the outcome, we use vibrant colors and rough picture cropping to match the ‘harsh’ concept and finish it with a figurative layout. This newspaper contains a wording about the main problem that we are facing now, following history about Anti-Design Movement in Italy (1966).

TYPOGRAPHY Laterlocks Regular is the typeface that was used for headlines on the print media. Laterlock’s forms are sightly distorted and rough, matching with the concept that we wanted to execute and visualize.

For body copy, we use Times New Roman, following the usual font of general newspaper, also producing an effortless reading experience for both print and digital purposes.

OUR LiFE is INDEED a KAFKA STORY

09

ABOUT “Our life is indeed a Kafka Story” is a tribute zine to Franz Kafka, a literary legend of visionary fiction whose works express the anxieties and alienation. His writings are a perfect representation of how we can be trapped in our own lives, or how we can fall into the clutches of others and be completely helpless.

11 Taking inspiration from the way Kafka interpret emotions of frustration, existential problem, and miserable in his writings; the visual concept developed by representing all of the moods that been said, using the color red with a touch of scratchy texture in illustration.

IN KAFKA’S UNIVERSE, “ILLOGiC BECOMES PLAUSIBLE, GUILT GOES UNEXPLAINED, AND BRUtAL PUNISHMENT is DOLED OUT FOR NO KNOWN OFFENSE.”

12

13

This zine is printed on A3 bookpaper, can be folded into A6 size, features quotes from Kafka’s wording that has been curated and compiled into a storyline. To add a better experience, this zine is connected with a spotify playlist that can be scanned on the poster, contained instruments that give a similar ambiance.

In this project, I got a chance to capture the moment when Rerata Kelabu performed on the field, and created a digital poster. The introduction photo was photographed by Noval Gumelar. I also helped setting up and managing the needs before the performance begins, to keep everything stays in place.

THE MAIN GOAL IS TO SHOW IMPACT THAT CAUSED BY GENDER-BASED DISCRIMINATION by VISUALIZING A STORYLINE AbOUT THE REALITY THAT’S BEEN HAPPENING, TO BUILD MORE A SENSE OF EMPATHY.

50

The title itself was taken according to the data which potrayed that society still has a perception that men supposed to be masculine and strong, women must be feminine and girly, and another ‘yang ini harus begini, yang itu harus begitu’ stereotype. Following that, the sentence was simplified and developed into “MELAMPAUI INI ATAU ITU”.

ROOM VISUAL CONCEPT

51

52

The video mapping is projected on a prism-shaped screen that is divided into 6 gate areas: New Born, Biological Sex, Gender Identity, Discrimination, Psychological Impact, and Harmony, installed in the aisle of a public space.
