our history Tattnall Square Academy was chartered as a nonprofit corporation by the State of Georgia in 1969. Our school is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of Tattnall Square Baptist Church members, school parents, and members of our community. Located in North Macon, Tattnall Square Academy is a co-educational day school for students in preschool through grade twelve and provides a college preparatory curriculum.
statement of faith We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inherent Word of God (II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:21). We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1; Matthew 28:19; John 10:30). We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35); His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26); His miracles (John 2:11); His vicarious and atoning death (I Corinthians 15:3; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 2:9); His resurrection (John 11:25; I Corinthians 15:4); His ascension to the right hand of the Father (mark 16:19); His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11). We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature, and that men are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God’s grace and through faith alone we are saved (John 3:16-19, 5:24; Romans 3:23, 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5). We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29). We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9; I Corinthians 12:12-13; Galatians 3:26-28). We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling, the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:13-14; I Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20; Ephesians 4:30, 5:18). This statement of faith is fundamental to basic Christian tenets and contains doctrines to which we unreservedly adhere and teach.
preschool k3 and k4 Our mission in preschool is for your child to grow in the same way that Jesus grew. Luke 2:52 is our theme verse. It says, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men.� If Christ is our example, it is fitting then, for us to make it our mission to help your child grow in wisdom (knowledge), stature (movement and coordination), in favor with God (spiritually), and in favor with men (social skills). Our curriculum seeks to develop children in each of these areas with skills taught through thematic units and interactive play.
kindergarten Our goal is to educate, love, and nurture your children in a caring, Christian environment. Our curriculum provides many hands-on experiences that allow children to explore learning in creative ways through the use of various manipulatives. Our full day program allows these young students the opportunity to express themselves creatively and, by encouraging them to develop their problem solving skills through experimentation with hands-onmaterials.
choose christ-centered education All students participate in weekly chapel, small group sessions, and mission service while Christian faith and principles are woven into the everyday classroom environment.
day care & lunch after school care Our After School Care is available for students in K3 through sixth grade. This service is available from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m. An additional charge will be billed separately for children picked up after 6:00 p.m. The program is open by reservation only for conference days, early dismissals, and other school events. Additional information can be requested through the Admissions Office.
summer day care Summer Day Care is available for rising K4 through 6th grade students. The service is available from the end of the school year to the beginning of the next school year from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Morning and afternoon snacks are included; however, lunch is not. Students bring a sack lunch. An additional cost will be billed for children picked up after 6:00 p.m.

lunch program - TSA cafe’ Students may choose from hot meal options each day or may purchase a la carte. A salad bar with fresh fruits and vegetables is also available on a daily basis along with cold sandwiches. A menu is published monthly on our website and sent home with students to make weekly lunch planning easy and convenient for our families. Students may also bring their lunch if desired. Students may enjoy their lunch in our lunchroom or in several designated outdoor dining areas. You may choose to make payments into your child’s lunch account or pay on a daily basis. Lunchroom balances are sent home monthly, but may be obtained at any time by contacting a member of the lunchroom staff.

lower school 1st grade Our mission in first grade is to establish a solid Christian education foundation in three specific areas. First, our academics are anchored in successfully integrating units in reading, language arts, and math. Next, our students develop socially through numerous group activities that develop cooperation and respect for self and others through our teaching of Christian character. The third and possibly the most important part of our students’ growth deals with their spiritual development which is taught through our Bible curriculum. Together with parents’ reinforcement at home and working together as a team, our mission becomes successful. Our ultimate goal is to provide a positive academic experience and to know each child’s strengths, needs, and learning styles.
2nd grade Our mission in second grade is to help each child mature academically, spiritually, and socially. We strive to help each child recognize and develop his or her strengths and talents. Equipping students with reading skills and decoding strategies is a high priority. Our math curriculum provides students with a strong foundation of computation, problem solving skills, and math vocabulary. Our exploratory classes include a variety of opportunities for students to explore art, science, and technology. It is our goal to facilitate each child’s full potential.
3rd grade Third grade is an exciting year full of many new experiences for your child. Third grade marks the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Within our content areas of language arts, math, science, social studies, and Bible, class work undergoes many changes in style and length. Third graders show evidence of expanding language with increased vocabulary. They are ready to engage in abstract discussions as they respond to curricula and life experiences. There is an increased level of independence that is formed and encouraged on a daily basis through the use of life skills. In order to meet the challenges of the future, third grade strives to help each child develop socially, emotionally, and academically in a Christ-like environment.
4th grade In fourth grade, students are deepening their knowledge of mathematics, reading, and writing. While these are focus areas, we also begin a more in depth study of science and social studies. Fourth graders are equipped to complete more complex assignments that ask them to assimilate knowledge from a variety of resources. Students are encouraged to become independent learners across the curricula, while still benefitting from group interactions in a cooperative, Christ-like learning environment.
5th grade The fifth grade teachers strive to provide a nurturing, Christian environment for our pre-teen learners to perfect basic skills with a college and career preparatory mind set. Our literacy goal is to offer a focus for instruction and help ensure that students gain adequate exposure to a range of texts and tasks, including the core areas of science and history. In the content area of mathematics our purpose is to develop fluency and understanding of mathematical operations and their applications in daily life situations.
6th grade The sixth grade year at Tattnall Square Academy is a year of transitions filled with opportunities for leadership. Students are challenged to see the world through the lens of a Biblical worldview. The goal of our instructional time is to develop life-long learners through the disciplines of a rigorous academic curriculum. Preparation in English language arts, mathematics, and literacy in science, social studies, and technical subjects will ensure that our students have the opportunity to master the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in the middle school years.
community Service All elementary students are provided opportunities for community service through field trips, donation drives, class projects, and school wide community service events.
lab 413- learning and believing Based on Philippians 4:13 - “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,” LAB 413 is a learning resource program which allows students to have individualized instruction in the areas of reading and mathematics. Students will be assisted individually or in small groups either in the resource lab or in their own classroom. The purpose of this program is to support our students and teachers in their pursuit of academic achievement and excellence.
elementary art Elementary Art is geared toward teaching all students the fundamentals of both art and art history. We hope to cultivate a path for a lifetime of love and passion for the arts. Beginning in preschool we teach both art history and how everything begins with a simple shape. We use this same principle throughout their growing experience, building on it, and adding the basic elements of art. Each student experiences a multitude of mediums, such as, chalk, oil, pastels, paint, charcoal, markers, crayon, glue, paper, paper mache, plaster, and clay. In the spring, their growth and talents are then proudly put on display in Tattnall’s annual Spotlight on the Arts. This special night allows the student to share their ability, knowledge, imagination, and creativity with their family and friends.
music In the music classroom at TSA, the primary focus is to develop a love for music in our students. Children are invited to experience music first hand through singing, movement and performing on instruments. Incorporating the Kodaly Method, students use folks songs and rhymes to discover beat, rhythm, tuneful singing, and learn to notate and read music.
discovery The DISCOVERY Program provides avenues of learning outside of the regular classroom for gifted/highly talented students in grades three - six. In order to be enrolled in DISCOVERY a student must meet criteria for admissions based on standardized tests, classroom performance/grades, teacher recommendation and testing. The class covers a range of topics not covered within the regular classroom setting. The goals of the DISCOVERY Program are to provide additional avenues for learning for gifted/highly talented students and to produce students who will contribute to their community to their utmost potential.
computer Elementary students in grades K4 through 6th go to the Chromebook or Chromebase lab once a week for a structured class in computer skills. In K4, K5, and 1st grade, students focus on correct finger placement, familiarity with the keyboard, computer terminology, and mouse techniques. The 2nd and 3rd graders are introduced to Google Docs and Slides, with an emphasis on choosing font style and color, inserting graphics, and typing paragraphs. With 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students, the emphasis is on memorizing the alphabetic keyboard and mastering the techniques necessary to create Google Docs and Slides within Google Drive, and GMail etiquette. An introduction to coding in 2nd and 3rd grade is expanded to include more Scratch coding exploration in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade.

our faculty Our school has a faculty and professional staff of 78. All faculty members meet the same professional learning unit requirements as teachers certified by the State of Georgia. Our faculty averages 17 years of teaching experience, and 14 years is the average tenure at Tattnall. Working in an independent school offers our teachers the opportunity to use interactive teaching methods that engage our students and encourage higher order critical thinking skills.
accreditation Tattnall Square Academy is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Southern Association of Independent Schools and is a member of the Georgia Independent School Association, and the Georgia High School Association. Tattnall accepts and classifies transfer credits or grade replacements from schools that are accredited by regional accrediting agencies that are part of the Commission on International and Transregional Accreditation.
grade point average & Class rank Grades earned in academic subjects are used to determine a student’s grade point average. All Advanced Placement Courses are weighted with an extra 5 points in the computation and honors courses are weighted an extra 2 points. Tattnall Square Academy recognizes students with an overall average of 90 or better in academic core classes at graduation as Honor graduates. Students who achieve an overall average in academic core classes of 95 and above are designated as Honors with Distinction graduates.
requirements for graduation Our college preparatory curriculum requires the following classes for graduation from Tattnall Square Academy: 4 units of Math 1 unit of Health/PE 4 units of English 1 unit of Fine Arts 4 units of Social Studies 2 Academic Elective units 4 units of Science 3 units of Bible 2 consecutive units of the same Foreign Language 1 unit of Community Service (20 hours per year, grades 9-12).
advanced placement & dual enrollment Advanced Placement classes are offered in U.S. Government and Politics, Calculus AB/BC, Art, Biology, Statistics, English Language and Composition, and English Literature and Composition. All colleges and universities in the United States value AP exam grades in the admission process and use these grades to award college credit or advance placement. Dual Enrollment classes are offered through Middle Georgia State University in English and History. Dual Enrollment online courses are offered through Central Georgia Technical College in Psychology, Sociology, Art Appreciation, and Humanities.

Tattnall Square Academy was voted “Best Private School� by Macon Telegraph readers for five consecutive years (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). schoology Schoology is TSA’s learning managament system that serves as a communication hub for parents, students, and faculty. Assignments, class announcements, faculty communication, lesson support and materials, and other helpful links are all posted to Schoology. It is vital that you login to Schoology on a regular basis. Fifth through twelfth grade students use Schoology daily in classes. All parents can access Schoology to view updated information on their child’s classes and academic progress. Elementary classes create groups in Schoology to keep parents updated on classroom activities.

Tuition payments are made in 12 monthly installments beginning in June and running through May of the following calendar year. There is a $300.00 discount per child for tuition and fees paid in full for the entire family account by June 15th.

Credit cards Tattnall Square Academy accepts VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express as payment for tuition and fees. Automatic recurring monthly tuition credit card payments may be set up through the Finance Office or online.
asep program The Academic Support and Enrichment Program is available to students in grades 7-12 who meet certain requirements. The program is designed with a small student teacher ratio. The cost of the program is $1,350.00 a year ($150.00 per month from September -May).
bank draft Families may also set up a montly automatic bank draft for tuition payment. Please contact the Finance Office to discuss this payment option or go online.
other fees & services An annual re-enrollment fee of $150.00 per child is charged to guarantee placement for the upcoming school year. Re-enrollment fees are billed each calendar year. An entrance fee of $500.00 per family (non-refundable) is payable only upon entrance of the first child to Tattnall Square Academy. teacher testimony we are family Written by: Shirley Kitchings If you asked me for one word to describe Tattnall Square Academy, I would have to say family, for several reasons. To begin, I have taught here for thirty-four years, almost half my life. During this time, Tattnall has become my second home, and lasting relationships with fellow faculty members and Tattnall families have been formed. So what does it really mean to be family? Families have ties that bind. When I came to Tattnall in August of 1982, I was quickly welcomed into the Tattnall family. I was a single parent with a sevenyear-old daughter, Julie. I had planned to be a stay at home mom, but my life had not worked out as I had planned, and I needed to return to teaching to make ends meet. Two weeks before school started, God answered my prayers with an English position at Tattnall. As Jeremiah 29:11 states, God had great plans for me. Teaching at Tattnall provided me with much more than a paycheck. I gained a Tattnall family to walk with me on this journey of life. Beloved English teachers Doe Watson and Pat Jenkins welcomed me, mentored me, helped me and inspired me to try to be the best teacher I could be. More importantly, my Tattnall family partnered with me in my attempt to raise my daughter Julie “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). Over the years that followed, my Tattnall family provided Julie with much more than a strong academic foundation; they reinforced the Christian foundation she was being taught at home and at church. Tattnall is also where she met Bryan Scott, a godly student who took her out on her first date and who married her six years later. Now, my Tattnall family is partnering with them to raise their children, my grandchildren – Avery, Brynn and Asa Scott – to glorify God in all that they do. As students have moved or graduated and as teachers have retired, our Tattnall family has had to say our goodbyes. Nevertheless, the Tattnall ties still bind us. These ties are strong, Tattnall Strong, and examples abound, from students who come back “home” to visit on college breaks, to alumni who are now enrolling their children, to retired teachers who meet regularly to catch up on old times, to daughters like Julie Scott and Carolyn Stuart, who return to teach at Tattnall with their moms. We have many lasting traditions teachers at TSA began, such as K5 students searching for the Gingerbread Man, Thanksgiving feasts, Faculty Follies, the Kids Yule Love Christmas Program and the Moving Up Ceremony. Over the years, we’ve laughed together, cried together, rejoiced together, played together, and most importantly, prayed together, and our Tattnall family bond has been made stronger in the process. That’s to be expected, however, for we share the same bloodline. We bleed blue and gold, so there will always be no place like home, our Tattnall home! To parody a popular 1979 hit, “We are family! All my Tattnall Trojans and me!”
