Jesus? where is

Dear Church Family, Acts 1:9-11 says that Jesus went to heaven. The passage also says that He will come back to earth “in the same way as you saw Him go.”

At Christmas time, we celebrate Jesus in the manger as a baby, and at Easter we celebrate Jesus rising from the dead. In the Lord’s Supper, we celebrate Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, and all of the Old Testament anticipates Jesus’ coming to earth as God in the flesh to rescue us from the penalty of our sins. The Bible is always calling our attention to where Jesus is. Why? Because where Jesus is, according to Scripture, determines everything also on earth. Finally, the Bible tells us of several judgments, such as — 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

The judgment of Believers (1 Corinthians 3:11-15 and 2 Corinthians 5:10) The judgment of the Nations (Matthew 25:31-46 and Joel 2) The judgment of Israel (Ezekiel 20:37-38) The judgment of fallen angels (Jude 1:6 and 1 Cor. 6:3) The judgment of the unsaved dead (Revelation 20:11-15)

All of these judgments of God on people are based upon the question of “Where is Jesus?” in relationship to anyone being judged. So “Where is Jesus?” This is the most important question in life for everyone. In Ephesians 3:17, the Apostle Paul tells us that Christ may “dwell in your hearts.” In Philippians 4:7, he tells us we can have the mind of Christ. Other passages refer to Christ dwelling in us. These passages and others cause pastors like me to plead with people to ask Jesus into their heart. Of course it’s not literal, but it’s a way of declaring that you can be where Jesus is, and He can be where you are. Jesus asks everyone in Revelation 3:20 to invite Him into their life as their Savior from sin and to be their Lord. This is easy to do. You can do it in prayer. Simply ask Jesus to be your Savior and Lord. Millions have done it. It’s the only way to know for sure where Jesus is for you. He can be in your heart and in heaven at the same time. In John 14, He says He will some day bring you to heaven so you will literally be where Jesus is. But it all starts with taking His invitation for yourself and inviting Him into your heart. A theology professor I once had said to me that “when the Bible uses the word ‘faith,’ it very often means simply taking God’s Word as a personal truth you will live by.” So where is Jesus for you? He wants to be in your heart. Love never fails,

Encouragement for the

Journey

“.... the number one enemy of Christian spiritual formation today is exhaustion.”

I

had an article all written for you — weeks ahead of the deadline — knowing that the holiday season would be a crazy time to find quiet to write. So I was proud of myself for being ahead of the game — and then my computer got infected with a nasty virus. A wonderful friend spent weeks helping us restore almost everything that was lost — except for the pictures from my birthday party and the articles I had written for you for this issue and next. I know that I had some great ideas; but for the life of me, I just can’t remember what they were! So I guess Jesus had something else in mind — and what He has in mind is always good.

So if I sleep enough, will that make me spiritually mature? I doubt it! But surrendering to the reality of who God created me to be opens the door for my soul to grow. God never needs sleep, but I am not God. I am His created child, and He made me to need sleep. I’m realizing that as I come to grips with my own limitations and surrender to them instead of fighting against them, I can begin to understand more deeply the limitless goodness of God. So contrary to my nature, I’m not starting off the New Year with a long list of resolutions. (Whose idea was that anyway?!) Instead I’m hoping to learn to rest my way into a greater sense of His presence. Anyone want to sign up for a holy nap?!

For instance, the first training exercise is about sleep! What?! Smith claims that the number one enemy of Christian spiritual formation today is exhaustion. Think about that for a minute. Why would he say that? Because most of us are living beyond our means, both financially and physically. Lack of rest has become something we’ve

u La

That reminds me of a book that I’m working my way through for a second time because I think it’s so important for where I am on my journey with Jesus right now. It’s called The Good and Beautiful God, by James Bryan Smith, and it’s helping me learn to see God through the eyes of Jesus, who was a perfect reflection of the Father. At the end of each chapter, the author gives soul training suggestions to help the readers take the truth about God and work it into their heart. I need that. But they’re not always the kind of “training” you would expect!

come to accept as normal. But God designed our bodies to need 7-8 hours of sleep a night, and if we’re consistently short-changing that, it not only affects our bodies, but our souls, which in turn can stunt our spiritual growth.

Questions about life? Where am I going? What’s it all about?

Try Alpha!

What is Alpha?

High School Alpha

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that can help you freely explore the basics of the Christian faith. It’s a place where you can investigate what you believe in a safe, open environment.

A separate Alpha program for high schoolers takes place at the same time as Alpha for adults. This fast-paced, fun version of Alpha is specifically designed to address the unique situations faced by teens.

Who is it for?

Childcare

If you want to move past religion and explore what it means to have a real relationship with God, Alpha is for you. It is designed to be a friendly place where you can attend by yourself or take your friends and family. Alpha is not just for those who attend FAC. All are welcome.

What happens at Alpha?

A catered dinner is served, and you can get to know others at your table. After dinner, the entire group listens to a talk about a specific topic; then we break into groups to discuss that topic and explore questions.

What are the weekly topics?

Who is Jesus and why did He die?

How can I have faith?

Why and how should I pray?

Why and how should I read the Bible?

Why is there suffering?

Childcare is provided for children, ages 3 (potty trained) through fifth grade. The children, along with the parents, must be registered early so we can provide excellent, safe care. Please register your children when you register.

Where, when, and how much? Alpha meets in the Sanctuary on Wednesday evenings, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The next 10-week session begins on Wed., Jan. 14. There is no charge for Alpha.

How do I sign up or get more information?

After worship services, stop at the Welcome Center desk and look for an Alpha team member or register online, www.myfac.org/register.

Jai, Bob, and Erin Phillips For 39 years, Bob worked in the fashion industry as a “corporate guy” – the last 25 years in New York. Then he began wondering where he was going. In January 2015 at the age of 70, Bob will become a licensed pastor for our denomination, Christian & Missionary Alliance (C&MA).

God@Work in the Life of … Bob Phillips 8

Bob says, “I wasn’t saved until 1980. I was coaching a girls’ softball team and having a rough day. As I walked past one of the moms, she asked how I was doing. I replied, ‘It’s just one of those days.’ She said, ‘Try God!’ I stopped, turned around, and went back. ‘What did you say?’ I asked. She said it again, ‘Try God.’ We sat and talked and within one year, I had committed my life to God. It was really cool how He worked that.” Bob met his wife, Erin, at Bemidji State in Minnesota, where he was coaching football. They fell in love, married, and have a beautiful daughter, Jai — “16 years old and a sophomore at Haddonfield. God bless me!” “Bob’s wife has RSD, one of the dystrophy diseases. She had back-to-back neck surgeries two years ago. Now she is disabled. Erin is a Baptist pastor and, until October 2014, had responsibility for 40 churches. It’s really difficult for her because she’s called to ministry,

and she’s a really good pastor. She is struggling with a myriad of things. Most important is her question, ‘God, You called me. What’s going on?’ She spends 60% to 70% of the day in bed now. I try to help. I do all the house stuff and take care of our daughter. But even now, Erin ministers to me. She has so much courage and strength. You know, you just keep going forward because life sometimes isn’t easy. We all go through all kinds of things. Erin is going through hers. “My daughter is a grounded, balanced 16-year-old. She is a Christian and a very neat kid. She is a lot like her mother.” Through all of this, when Bob was 66 years old, he decided to go back to college — Crown College. “I just wanted to go back. So, I went — not knowing anything. I had no idea at the time that Crown was an Alliance college. The tie-in was really fascinating. Again, that’s how God works. “I knew I was called, and I just kept putting it on the back burner. So God kept calling me and calling me. It was always there; I just wasn’t connecting. I was in church all the time in various ministries and all

greatest part to me is that He’s the coming King – the fourth spoke. To know He is coming back is the reason we’re all here. Praise God. Because, if He wasn’t coming, it would be frightening!” (You have to know Bob was smiling!) “I cannot begin to tell you how supportive Pastor Marty and Pastor Glenn Kantner have been during this process. Pastor Glenn has been my mentor, and his door is always open. He is patient, kind, loving, and wise – a tremendous asset to FAC! The entire pastoral staff has been wonderful, encouraging me through each step. I am so blessed to be at FAC, and I thank God daily for the covenant between Him and Marty and Laurie. Because of the sound teachings, the love, the acceptance, and the encouragement, I am so blessed, so blessed.” Retirement is not on Bob’s horizon. “I wouldn’t be able to retire, seriously. Praise God! I’d be the last person to retire. God has blessed me with a lot of energy. “When I get my license, I just want to make a contribution here. I want to help spread the Word and advance His Kingdom. But I want to help here.

The most important thing is that God is never finished with us. sorts of stuff like everybody else. But as far as the pastoring thing, it really tied in with going to Crown. During the first semester, it just hit. That’s when I knew that I needed to do some stuff with my life that was really important. And, more importantly, I needed to listen to Him.”

It’s all about the Great Commission in Matthew 28. Whether you are in Asia or Oregon or right here in Medford, you’ve got to spread the Word. There are people in this church who need to know more about God. We can do it right here.

“The most important thing is that God is never Bob has been working with the JOY ministry for finished with us. We need to stay faithful. We need seniors and, once licensed, hopes to continue. “I to listen to Him. We need to have one-on-one time coach football at Haddonfield High School so I with Him. We need to pray daily. We need to read would like to combine JOY with the youth and figure the Bible daily. We have to be “all in” because He out a way to put together a program where they loves us so much. He loves us so terribly much. So, can interact on a consistent basis. The youth are He takes someone like me, at my age, and says, trying to figure out where they belong, and a lot “Okay, Bob, you’ve got work to do. Let’s go.” That’s of the seniors in JOY are trying to figure out where what He did. they belong. And since I’m one of those seniors, I “God doesn’t care about your age. He just loves think it would be a neat tie-in to have different you so much. And you know it. You feel the Holy generations really coming together, meeting, Spirit. He indwells our hearts, and it’s just a blessing. knowing, and learning.” So stay close. If you stay close to God, you can’t “With the JOY ministry, I can share my story with lose. You just can’t lose. And in this church, with them and say, ‘I don’t want to hear that you are all the Scripture-based messages that we hear tired, and I don’t want to hear you’re done because every Sunday and all the people involved in all the if I’m not done, why would you be done?’” ministries and all the true love that is here, you just hop in and come along for the ride and be part of it. Bob also sings in the choir. He even has a “little ministry thing” at Care One nursing home. In addition, he sings with the Pineland Singers, all while going to college.

Why become an Alliance pastor? “It’s all about the Alliance four-fold ministry. Jesus Christ is our Savior, our Sanctifier, our Healer, and our coming King. The

“I am so deeply humbled that God has stayed with me. My favorite saying, and this is really the truth, is that the ‘plank in my eye’ was bigger than anybody else’s. Trust me on that. He is not finished with me. I’m 70 and about to be a licensed pastor! Isn’t that amazing?!”

MISSIONS

News for the New Year! What’s New with FASA?

If

you’ve been reading the articles about FASA (Fellowship Alliance South Africa) the last few months, you know that God has been doing amazing things in this ministry! Relationships are growing between people from opposite sides of the globe; leaders are being trained and equipped; children and adults are hearing the good news of Jesus; and five trips are being planned for 2015. God is transforming lives!

And now, there is something new on the horizon, an internship program! Jim Walter, director of FASA shares, “This is a huge development for the FASA ministry. We had talked about the possibility of developing an intern program, but honestly thought that it would be several years before that would happen. But God’s timing is not our timing and He is driving this development forward in a quicker time table. This accelerates the growth, depth, and expanse of FASA greatly, and everyone involved is so excited!” In South Africa and many of its surrounding countries, Christians are welcome to share about Jesus in the

public schools; in fact, many times they are invited! The purpose of this internship program is, in part, to develop a children’s and youth ministry program that can be established in the schools, sustained by local church leaders, and replicated and implemented in surrounding communities and countries. Being able to bring the hope of Jesus to students on a regular basis is, as Jim says, unbelievable! Jim continued, “This opportunity will feed the hungry souls of all those children who are longing for the hope that can only be found in Jesus. It is almost completely unbelievable that we can go into public schools and present the Gospel, teach Biblical truths, and sing songs of praise to our Lord. And the principals and teachers beg us to come back!” God has not only given the FASA Leadership Team a vision for this internship, He has also provided the first intern! Jenn Dallow has already been on two FASA trips, and her heart for the people of South Africa and neighboring countries grows daily. In just a few weeks, Jenn will return to Lephalale for six months, where she will work with local ministry

leaders and public school administrators. Jim says, "We could not be more excited for Jenn as she follows the call of God with this internship. Jenn has been an integral part of FASA from its early days and is part of the strategic planning and leadership team of the ministry. We are so excited to have Jenn step out in faith to develop this awesome ministry and join God in the great work that He is about to do in the public schools in Lephalale.”

children on his knee and the song, ‘Jesus Loves the Little Children of the World’. I thought of Jesus’ own words in Mark 9, ‘Whoever receives a child in my name, receives me and whoever receives me receives he who sent me.’ “Once home I couldn’t seem to get out of my head that in two days we had the opportunity to share the Gospel with 1,200 children! I started to dream what

“Whoever receives a child in my name, receives me and whoever receives me receives he who sent me.” Jenn explains how God worked in her heart: “It’s funny how God moves. I went over to South Africa in April with my focus on the leadership institute and working with the South African adults that we would meet. Quite frankly, for me the children and daily rallies were an afterthought — just something that was a part of the trip. Yet it was at the day rally where God got my attention. It was there I learned the biggest lessons of the trip. So you would think that when I went back in September, I would be excited about working with the kids. Nope! My focus was still the leadership institute and adults. And once again God used the kids to get my attention! “While in the school in Marapong I was overcome with emotion. I had all these kids running up to me, and as I was scooping them up, all I could think of was Jesus. My mind went to those pictures you see of Jesus with

it could look like to help our South African partner church, Living Waters, build a public school ministry. As I dreamed, God continued to confirm that this was His idea not mine. So I approached Jim and Tammy to share how God had been leading me to consider returning to South Africa with the primary focus of building a sustainable public school ministry. Their excited response was one more confirmation that this idea was from God. Out of our discussions came the idea of an internship, and by God's goodness and grace He is allowing me the privilege of being a part of the work He has already begun in SA.” Please continue to pray for the ministry of FASA, especially for Jenn Dallow as she embarks upon this new missions adventure!

MINISTRY PROFILE:

“Being a single woman with children can be a challenging and lonely experience,” shared Marcy Bero.

In

September of 2010 after being married for 22 years, Marcy was separated and forced to embark on the journey of single motherhood. When Marcy sought Biblical counsel and guidance, she learned she needed to allow God to fill the empty spaces in her life. It was during this period that God gave her opportunities to share with other women the Biblical truths that led to the healing of her heart, and she felt a burden for single moms. In January 2012, Marcy was invited to attend a meeting for single mothers called Fresh Hope. She continued to participate in this ministry at FAC throughout the year and became a table leader during the 2013/14 semester. Then in July 2014, Marcy made the big decision to step up and become coordinator of Fresh Hope.

“Once I found Fresh Hope, I really felt like I was in a community,” said Marcy. “I fell in love with the ministry and realized I needed to contribute. I never imagined I'd be leading the group. However, it feels natural, and it is a tremendous blessing, for it’s effortless. I know God is walking me through this assignment.” Marcy feels the heart of Fresh Hope is to demonstrate God’s love and His resourcefulness to meet all single moms’ needs. “We offer a community of support through networking with other single moms as well as connecting women with professional support, such as legal and counseling services,” Marcy explained. “The most important aspect of Fresh Hope is to bring moms to an understanding that God's Word is our only guarantee to success.” The Fresh Hope season runs from September through May and meets one Sunday a month. It provides a helping hand through support ministries, including the Food Pantry, Clothing Closet, and Benevolence Center. While Marcy’s job as coordinator includes setting and implementing the Fresh Hope vision, she believes the team of volunteers is the integral part of the ministry. Some of the names and important jobs include: 1. Small Group Coordinator, Bernice Hall, who recruits women to be table leaders and organizes the right match for the mothers. She’s known for being a great and wise communicator.

12

2. Hospitality Coordinator, Alison Funk, who plans the monthly meal and creates the theme for the room. She has a gift for being a good listener and is capable of bringing Marcy’s vision to life through visual elements and decor for the monthly meeting. 3. Registration Coordinator, Dawn Plowman, who is a fantastic planner and wonderful encourager. It was her friendly smile and greeting that helped Marcy feel welcomed when she was a newcomer. 4. Childcare Coordinator, Sherri Land, who organizes the childcare. This includes feeding the children and designing age-appropriate activities. She thinks outside the box and makes a very challenging job look easy. 5. Administrative Coordinator, Debbie Schneck, who handles all communication through the HUB and assists with all printed material. Debbie is a voice of wisdom and grace. The Fresh Hope motto is “Ask Debbie. She knows about everything!” 6. Women's Ministry Leader, Carol Batten, who gives Marcy constant encouragement and insight into the many details of the ministry. Carol is always a phone call away, and her experience keeps things from unraveling. Marcy is extremely thankful for all the volunteers God has placed in Fresh Hope. “It’s a collaborative process, and I’m simply the coach,” Marcy explained. “God is walking me through this experience. It would be impossible to be successful unless I surrendered it to Him. I simply walk in His guidance.” Debbie Schneck shared, “God raised up an amazing leader in Fresh Hope, and it has been cool to see that. Marcy is leading with boldness and God’s authority. God speaks to her about where He wants the ministry to go. She is filled with passion and the Spirit to lead.” Marcy loves putting the focus on God. She firmly believes our Heavenly Father is the ultimate resource for the mothers. “I want them to realize how much God cares about their day-to-day lives, and I want them to know that His desire for them is to be successful and victorious,” said Marcy. Single mom, Lori Sperling, shared, “Fresh Hope is such an amazing place that has brought me closer to God. Fresh Hope taught me to trust in God that my son and I will

Fellowship Alliance Chapel | Happy New Year!

be taken care of. Now I don't feel alone because I know I have a group that is so willing and ready to help.” Lori is also thankful that Fresh Hope helped her sister, Lisa, who’s also a single mom. A few months ago, Lisa needed to move and had no extra money for movers. She asked Fresh Hope if there was anyone who might be able to assist her. Lisa got a call and was told there were three men from the church who helped people move. Both Lori and Lisa were amazed. “These men were fantastic,” said Lori. “They came on time and helped my sister move for free because they believed that's what God wanted them to do. My son was there and couldn't believe there were actually people who were willing to do heavy lifting and provide transportation to help someone in need.” Declan Burton, one of Fresh Hope’s table leaders, is also grateful for Fresh Hope. Declan said, “I love having time to fellowship with ladies who understand my family dynamics without judging me, and the clothing closet has provided me with a higher level of confidence on

interviews and in the work place. I also enjoy helping others in their new chapter of life. The knowledge I have gained in my past experiences allows me to bless others so they too can see their blessings around the corner and never give up! The speakers have provided me with extra hope I can pass on to my children. When my little one said to me, ‘Fear not, for I am with you’ during a scary moment, I was filled with emotion because she got that from one of the teachings shared with her from Fresh Hope.” Marissa Casal, another single mom, would agree: “Overall, I love being able to spend time with women who are walking in the same shoes as I am. Being a single mother isn't easy, and it feels great knowing I'm not alone. At the last meeting, we talked about fear. Everything we have learned so far has deeply correlated to my life, and it has taught me how to become fearless, which in turn has made me a better mother to my son.”

asking for us to pray that all the single mothers learn how to really trust God to help them to do the hard work necessary to become spiritually whole and healed women. She added, “Please pray that the moms are able to raise children who are confident that God is real. I want these women to impact the next generation for our God by ‘training their children in the way that they should go.’ God loves single moms. FAC does as well!”

Marcy would appreciate it if we would pray for this ministry that has positively impacted numerous women’s lives. She’s

Here is a message from Madeline of the Christian Caring Center about what we helped accomplish: "We served 400 individual meals to the homeless and shut-ins; another 25 at the juvenile detention center; and 30 at a rehabilitation center. Praise the Lord!"

The day consisted of moments of joy and true fellowship. One individual summed up the day perfectly: “Doing God’s work isn’t about me.”

Movie Event

Jan. 13, 2015 — 9:15 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., in the Chapel Bring your girlfriends, neighbors, and friends to laugh, relax, and have fun while we watch the movie Mom’s Night Out: What Could Go Wrong? starring Patricia Heaton and Sarah Drew. You can see a preview of the movie at www.youtube.com/watch?v=Leb6Vnhbp1A. This event is free, but please register online, www.myfac.org/register. Childcare will be provided for both showings. Fee is $3.00 per child. If you have questions, contact Michele Snyder, michelesnyder@yahoo.com.

My One Word Location: Red Barn Thursdays: Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29 Time: 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The concept of My One Word is simple. Lose the long list of resolutions — all your sweeping promises to change — and do something about one thing this year instead of nothing about everything. Choose just one word that represents what you most hope God will do in you and focus on it for an entire year. This single act will force clarity and help you concentrate your efforts. As you focus on your word over an extended period of time, you position yourself for God to form your character at a deep, sustainable level, and growth and change will result. You will find the power of one word! My One Word is organized for a small group; a DVD is played at each session. Childcare is not available. Homework: Light reading and suggested journaling Cost: $20, which covers book and all class materials

Inductive Study of Ruth:

Kinsman Redeemer

Tuesdays, Jan. 20/27 and Feb. 3/10 Location: Chapel Times: 9:15 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. **Registration deadline is Tues., Jan. 6. This is a great short study to introduce you and your friends to a taste of inductive Bible study. No experience is necessary, and detailed instructions will be given regarding the method. If you were a slave, who would buy your freedom? If you had an enemy, who would come to your defense? In the Old Testament, this buyer-defender, known as a “kinsman-redeemer,” was usually a close relative. If you’re a Believer, you already have one — Jesus Christ! This study shows how Jesus bought us (redeemer) and advocates (defender) for us, offering us an opportunity to rebuild our broken lives. Childcare is available for morning and evening classes. Homework: 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week Cost: $25, which covers all class materials

Fellowship Alliance Chapel | Happy New Year!

Last year was the final Women’s Retreat at FAC. In the process of evaluating what God wanted to use to replace the retreat and knowing that the women of the church wanted to experience the same emotional and spiritual growth as at the retreat more than once a year, a new ministry was developed — Walking in Grace. This is a chance for not only women within our church, but also within the community to experience the Women’s Retreat a few times a year — locally! These events are opportunities to strengthen relationships with Christ and other women. It is a time to be completely transparent, to have an open heart and mind, and to be free of all judgment in a place that is totally safe and welcoming, freed by the love of Christ! There will be speakers, worship, prayer, and snacks — but most of all, a special time to experience God’s grace and unconditional love!

HERE IS A BRIEF LIST OF THE COURSES:

“Beautiful Mess; Motherhood for Every Moment” – AM and PM

Wherever we are in our parenting journey, being a mother is hard work, and we need to keep our focus on God. Through this study, we will discover (or be reminded) that God specifically designed us for our children and that with His guidance and grace, we can prepare them for the future God has planned for them.

Homework: 15-20 minutes / 5 days a week Cost: $25, which covers all class materials; $35 for late registration

The Book of Hebrews – PM only

Do you want to know Jesus more and better understand who He is and the work He has done? Does your faith need a boost? Join us as we study the book of Hebrews and learn from God’s Word and each other. This is a teacher-led class in a discussion-group setting.

Homework: 15-20 minutes / 5 days a week Cost: $25, which covers all class materials; $35 for late registration

“Restless” – AM and PM

This study is based on Joseph, whose life appeared to be a tangled mess, but he was really part of a much bigger story. Find out how God can untangle your story, your gifts, and your passions to weave them into purposes far greater than you could have imagined. Homework: One hour per week Cost: $30, which covers all class materials; $40 for late registration

"It's Your Turn to Dig,” 8 Tools for Inductive Bible Study – AM only

With eight basic tools or techniques, you can master inductive Bible study. Inductive study will not tell you what to believe or what the Bible means. It will show you how to study the Word of God so that the meaning will become clear to you.

“Attention, Please! Overcoming the Challenges of ADHD” – PM only

Parents of children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are often left with more questions than answers. This class will provide the opportunity to exchange advice, tips, and tricks to help navigate doctors, treatments, school, friends, bullies, and more. At the heart, it will help you discover the tools God has for moms to effectively nurture their children.

Homework: Suggested journaling during the week Cost: $30, which covers all class materials; $40 for late registration

“Walking in the Light” – PM only (7:30 to 9:30)

If your husband is or has been addicted to pornography, Walking in the Light is designed for you. Cost: $35 for all class materials For more information and to register, e-mail confidentially to WalkingintheLightFAC@gmail.com. Confidentiality will be protected. Register by Feb. 13.

“In the Wildflowers”

The objectives for this group are to offer victims of sexual abuse hope for their own healing, to eliminate feelings of isolation, to create a safe environment, and to lead participants to a Biblical understanding and acceptance of God’s total and unconditional love and forgiveness. There will be an informational session, which you must attend in order to participate. For more information, including the date, time, and location of the informational meeting, and to register for the informational session, e-mail confidentially to InTheWildflowersFAC@gmail.com. Mom’s Time Out

Begins: Thurs., Jan. 29 Registration deadline: Thurs., Jan. 15 Dates: Jan. 29, Feb. 12/26, March 12/26, April 16/30, May 14. Cost: $55.00

Ever feel like you need a time out?

Mom’s Time Out is for mothers of babies through eighth graders. Childcare is provided by screened workers for infants through kindergartners and for homeschooled children in Grades 1 through 3. The program includes talks specifically geared for young mothers. Those talks can include topics such as making family memories, childrearing, marriage, and more. Mom’s Time Out also includes sharing breakfast, group outings, and community service. It is a place for fun, honest sharing; lasting friendships; and spiritual and emotional enrichment. Invite your neighbors and friends to join you! Questions? Contact Debbie Schneck at 609-953-7333, x125, or debbie@myfac.org

Mentor Moms

Mentor Moms pairs older, “seasoned” moms with younger moms. Mentor moms encourage, guide, and empower younger moms in their roles as a Christian wife and mother. Two mentor moms will meet with approximately five younger moms. There will also be times of sharing with all the groups. Homework involves reading a chapter of the book, Desperate, Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe, each week. Mentor Moms will meet weekly on Tuesday mornings, 9:15-11:15, Jan 27 through May 19. Childcare is provided for babies through kindergartners. Cost of $20 covers book and childcare. Space is limited. If you have questions, contact Karen Cariss, kjcariss@aol.com. Register online, www.myfac.org/register. Deadline for registration is Jan. 15.

Deepening Groups

A Deepening group offers an accepting, long-term, safe community that allows its members the freedom for open and honest sharing. The groups work together to explore transformation through a four-component spiritual formation process:

1. 2. 3.

dopting the Narratives of Jesus — This will most likely involve challenging and changing your understanding A (narratives) of who God is and who you are to God as Jesus reveals His Father to us.

Practicing Soul Training Exercises — These are designed to deepen and enrich our mind, body, and soul with a true knowledge (right narratives) of the character of God through a spiritual formation process.

Participating in Community — We were designed in the image of God by God to live, love, grow, heal, and thrive in a Christian community. Community development is the centerpiece of The Deepening ministry. Group members come to expect and rely on the encouragement, affirmations, acceptance, and challenges shared within the Deepening groups.

4.

Transformation Empowered by the Holy Spirit — The components of change occur when the groups embrace the Holy Spirit as their essential advocate who navigates them through the process of transformation. Together they seek to increase their ability to hear, trust, respond to, and utterly rely on the Spirit’s guidance and direction.

Joining a Deepening Group

As a participant in a Deepening group, you will meet weekly to develop a Deepening community experience. To maximize this experience, your commitment to meet on an ongoing, regular basis is necessary. To start the process of joining a Deepening group, go to www.myfac.org/joindeepening and complete the Deepening Group Participant Interest Form. Once your form is submitted, you will be contacted by a group facilitator and matched with a group. Deepening groups are formed as facilitators become available. If you have questions about Deepening Groups, contact Carol Batten, carol@myfac.org, or Lisa Kletkewicz, 2boys4life@ comcast.net.

Celebration Night An evening to hear stories of God at work! Fri., Feb. 13, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., in the Sanctuary Join us for this great opportunity to hear stories about how God is at work in our miniChurches. If you lead a miniChurch, are a part of a miniChurch, or are interested in finding out more about miniChurches, join us for a great evening! Please register for this event: www.myfac.org/minichurch.

Free & 50 Begins again on Jan. 5

Our meetings in 2015 begin on Jan. 5 and continue through the end of June. Each month you can pick up a calendar of our events in the Welcome Center at the information booth.

If you are 50 years of age and older, you are invited to join the Free & 50 group for in-depth Bible studies and fellowship. We meet Monday evenings at 7:00 in Room C-03/04, which is across from the Chapel. On the third Monday evening of each month, we share a meal and movie together, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Some topics we have studied include the letters of Paul to the early churches and, more recently, the FAC “Connect” series. We have also studied the Bible’s last book — Revelation. We are currently beginning a new study entitled “The Jewish Feasts and God’s Calendar for the Ages.” Many of us may not understand the significance of the feasts which God instituted for his people 3500 years ago. We will look at what these

20

feasts meant for Israel and what they mean for us, the Church, as they are laid out on God’s calendar and as they relate to God’s timeline for the history of mankind. God’s calendar is the calendar He initiated as He led His people out of Egypt, not the Roman calendar, which is all we know and use. To better understand how God interacts in our world today, we need to view things based on His calendar. Join us as we grow in the knowledge of God, increase our faith, strengthen our hope, and experience His love together. Free & 50 is for men and women. For more information, contact Ed Brokhoff, 609-200-2019, or edantbro@gmail.com.
