What about the Holy Spirit? Dear Church Family, What do you believe about the Holy Spirit? Do you believe He is a person, but a spirit person not a flesh person? Do you believe He is an “it,” a “force,” or the third person of the Trinity? Many Christians seem to be rather agnostic toward The Holy Spirit. That doesn't mean they don’t believe He exists or isn’t real, but they would simply say, “I don’t know.” If that’s what you believe about a lot of things regarding the Holy Spirit, then I want to challenge you to go Biblical with me for a minute or two. The Holy Spirit is described as an actual spirit person in the Bible, not just a force or feeling. In 1 Corinthians 2:10-11, He is pictured as having His own intellect. In Ephesians 4:30, He is pictured as having His own feelings. And in 1 Corinthians 12:11, He is pictured as having His own will. Also as a person would be able to do, the Holy Spirit is described as being able to teach us (John 14:26), guide us (Romans 8:14), commission us (Acts 13:4), command us (Acts 8:29), restrain us (Genesis 6:3), intercede for us (Romans 8:26), and speak to us (John 15:26 and 2 Peter 1:21). Also, like any person, the Holy Spirit can be lied to (Acts 5:3), obeyed (Acts 10:18-21), resisted (Acts 7:51), revered (Psalms 51:11), blasphemed (Matthew 12:31), and grieved (Ephesians 4:30). And like any person, He can be angry (Hebrews 10:29). The word for spirit, as you probably know, is neuter in gender, but several times a masculine pronoun is used to replace a neuter pronoun, which contradicts all normal rules of grammar but clearly points to the Holy Spirit as the third Person of the Trinity. I could go on with a lot more the Bible reveals about the Holy Spirit, and I would encourage you to do your own Biblical study, but what should we do about the reality of this Person in our lives? The answer is overwhelming and obvious to me: He is here and causes us to be convicted of our sins (John 16:8-11), born again (John 3:3-7; 1 Corinthians 6:19), baptized (1 Corinthians 12:13), and filled (Ephesians 5:18). We should depend on Him.
Make friends with Pastor Marty Berglund
Ephesians 5:18-19 contrasts getting drunk with being controlled by the Holy Spirit. That means when we are down, depressed, sad, or angry, we should turn to and depend upon the Holy Spirit to renew us, sustain us, or cheer us up ― not the spirits in a bottle. This is applicable to every part of our life. We should give up worthless imitations and depend on the Spirit to get us through and give us victory in all we do.
Love never fails,
Pastor Marty

LIFE CENTER
FAC’s New Counseling & Education Center Projected to open this spring We are very excited to announce the upcoming opening of the Transforming Life Center (TLC), a new counseling and education center designed to serve the residents of South Jersey. In addition to traditional counseling services, such as individual, marital, or group therapy, TLC will take a holistic view and will be offering programs designed to help with issues of the mind, body, and soul. Some examples of those holistic programs and classes are spiritual guidance, nutrition, and diet. TLC counselors believe that the body, mind, and soul work synergistically, and that attempting to transform one area may not take advantage

e’ve been doing a lot of sorting and cleaning and tossing at our house these days. We decided to move things around upstairs, which meant that all the closets needed to be shifted so that has given us a good excuse to thin things out. Pretty soon I’m going to be on a first-name basis with the guys at the Goodwill drop-off!
”
When you give away a dozen bags of stuff ― and throw away an equal number of bags ― you realize how much is hanging around your life that you don’t really need, which is why this article I read by Priscilla Shirer in the DTS magazine (“Kindred Spirit”) really hit me. She says: “Nothing seems to fit comfortably. My closet is stuffed; my pantry is overflowing; my freezer is packed; the hallway linen closet is brimming; and the junk drawer in my kitchen can barely contain the stuff. And don’t even get me started on my calendar and schedule!”

God, of course, has a cure for that ― when we finally realize that it’s a sickness. And part of the cure is called Sabbath. In her article, Priscilla recounts the Old Testament
But some people didn’t feel confident that He was going to come through. So just in case, they went out to accumulate anyway. Guess what? No manna. They would have been better off resting! They were hoping to get more when what they had was already enough. And Sabbath was “the more” they needed the most. God knows there’s something about resting that helps us remember we’ve already got enough! That and a bunch of Goodwill bags!

Can you relate? I think these words describe a lot of us. We live in a culture of accumulation― and instead of being embarrassed about that, we wear it as a badge of honor! The more stuff we have in our house and the more activities we cram into our schedule, the more significant we tell ourselves we’re going to be. It takes years for some of us to realize that the overabundance is not adding life to us at all, but instead it’s draining the life out of us.
story in which the Israelites are living in the wilderness and God sends them manna to eat six days a week. But He tells them that the seventh day is for Sabbath, and He wants them to rest ― no gathering manna, no collecting, no working, no trying to make sure they had enough. He promised that if they rested on the seventh day, He would make it enough. And He did!

PUPPETS There is no other ministry quite like the puppet ministry!
Puppets are effective in reaching, teaching, and entertaining not only children but people of all ages. In the hands of dedicated puppeteers, puppet characters can make us laugh, make us cry, and can even share important Biblical messages. Puppets are fun and nonthreatening. As puppets can open doors to unexpected and surprising venues, many unique opportunities for ministry are available to puppeteers for sharing God's Word. For example, on a missions trip,
puppets can tell about Jesus in the local language. Prayerfully ask God if He is calling you to serve Him through the Kingdom Puppets. The Kingdom Puppets team is meeting on Thursday evenings in Rooms C-03/04 at 7:00 p.m. No experience is necessary. Training is provided at the Thursday meetings. All are welcome ― sixth graders through adults. For more information, go to www.myfac.org/puppets.

Being joined a miniChurch. The step to be close to other Christians who desire to vulnerable and be a part of a miniChurch follow Christ has helped me in my own was something she had avoided for many desire to be transformed into the woman years. “Protective walls were my barrier, God wants me to be. Dave Krilov is FAC’s pastor of miniChurches and small groups. It brings him great joy to witness men and women following Jesus together and practicing the New Testament “one another” passages. “Our vision for miniChurches is ‘disciples making disciples,’” explained Pastor Dave.
“Disciples who follow Jesus are being changed by Jesus and are committed to the mission of making disciples. This happens in fellowship with other Believers. We can’t live the Christian life as well apart from the real community the Bible describes the Church to be. Joining a miniChurch is joining the vision and movement of disciples making disciples.” Dave first became involved in a miniChurch after he and his wife, Maria, were married in 2002. Both Dave and Maria deeply believed that they needed to be in close fellowship with other Believers in order to grow as Christians and improve their marriage. Over time, they went from being in a miniChurch group to co-leading a group. Then eventually, they were leading a group. During that time, Dave was working in Philadelphia at a civil engineering firm. “It was then that God called me into full-time ministry as a pastor,” he said. “While I juggled being a husband and

father of three girls, working in Philly, and attending seminary, Maria and I continued to be involved with the miniChurch ministry at FAC.” After Dave received his master’s degree, God opened a door for him to be an associate pastor at an Alliance church in Seaford, Delaware, for six years. Then he became senior pastor at an Alliance church in Roanoke, Virginia. In both experiences,
seven leadership couples. Their role is to provide support and encouragement to the miniChurch leaders. Since there are 60 miniChurches at FAC, the coaches are needed to help Dave extend support to the large number of leaders. “All the miniChurch leaders are doing an awesome job in making disciples of Jesus!” said Dave. “They’re great people, and this ministry couldn’t exist without
God desires for each of us. It also makes the big weekend services at FAC feel a lot smaller!” Matt and Bethany Miller have been leading a miniChurch for several years. They are also miniChurch coaches. Matt and Bethany have always been involved individually in different ministries within the church. However, miniChurch has always been a way for both of them to serve and be in a group together. “The people in our groups have experienced life along with us ― good, bad and ugly,” explained the Millers. “We love having a place to come together and be the body of Christ. Being transparent, spurring one another along in our journeys with Christ, and seeing how He is working in the lives of the people in our groups have made the hugest impact.” Pastor Dave would greatly appreciate it if the FAC family would pray for the miniChurch leaders. He requests prayer that the leaders continue to draw strength from the Lord and that their marriages deepen in love for one another. Dave said, “I often tell group members, ‘Your relationships with the Lord and your spouse are very important. As those relationships go, so goes the group!’”
he was involved with starting and leading small groups and developing discipleship processes for each. Pastor Dave shared, “I wasn’t aware of it at the time, but in hindsight I can see that God was certainly preparing me for such a role of overseeing small groups and being involved with discipleship at FAC! We’re glad and thankful to be home!” Pastor Dave’s role at FAC is overseeing miniChurches. He firmly believes that ultimately God is the one who leads this ministry and he seeks the Lord each day. Dave said, “I often remind miniChurch leaders and coaches that my most important task is to be seeking Jesus and abiding closely with Him. I want all leaders to be doing the same as our relationship with Christ affects how we lead in all other areas of our life.” Pastor Dave works with FAC’s ministry staff and an incredible volunteer team of miniChurch leaders and coaches. their vision and passion for miniChurches. By God’s grace, we’ve launched 17 new miniChurches this year! I also have a miniChurch team that helps me with administration and planning. They are a great team to work with!” Dodd and Ami Terry have enjoyed being miniChurch leaders since 2009 and are miniChurch coaches as well. Ami and Dodd believe that being involved in mIniChurch has had a huge impact in their lives. “miniChurch is a place where we can live out the ‘one another’ passages from the New Testament,” Dodd said. “miniChurch provides a safe place for all to live in an authentic community of faith where we love one another, pray for one another, and grow together.” Dodd and Ami believe the love, fellowship, and sharing that are found in a miniChurch can positively impact many lives. Dodd added, “God calls all of us to be in a community of Believers. Our miniChurch has been a loving, caring group where we can share life and have the abundant life
In addition, Pastor Dave asks us to pray for more leaders to develop from within those groups and that those leaders would catch the vision of making disciples. “My heart’s desire is that new miniChurch leaders come from existing groups,” shared Pastor Dave. “Part of the description of a disciple is to be making other disciples. This is God’s master plan of evangelism ― reproduction. What better place for this to happen than in our miniChurches!” ■

in th e life o f
Sandy Hay S
andy Hay, like many of us, came to Fellowship Alliance Chapel hurt and broken.
“I’ve been a Christian since 1978. It’s been a progressive, uphill walk, and it’s been wonderful. I literally think that God saved my life. I came to FAC five years ago, and these last five years have been great years, crazy years, sad years, anxious years, growth years, challenging years, changing years, God years. “My oldest son was a youth pastor. Seven years ago, he was fired ― for many reasons. There was a lot going on in that church. For the next two years, he and his wife struggled. Their three children struggled. We all struggled. We struggled with what happened at the church; we struggled with what didn’t happen at the church. We stayed almost two years, and then we went looking in different directions. As God would have it, we all ended up at FAC! “The first time I came, one of the associate pastors was preaching. I thought, ‘Oh, that was good.’ Then I heard Marty preach, and I thought, ‘Oh! Wow!’ And I haven’t left since. God speaks to me through Marty.” There were about 17 people who came from that same church at the same time. “Marty met with us one night. It was
beautiful. He welcomed us. He counseled us. He loved us. Having known us for less than 24 hours in some cases, Marty actually provided professional counseling for members of our group.” Through the life-changing struggles that have gone on in Sandy’s life, she feels blessed by the opportunity to bring her granddaughters to FAC on a regular basis. “What FAC has done for my grandchildren is wonderful. They have been surrounded with open arms, and they have really been helped in their walk with God. I can see God transforming their lives. He is becoming real to them. They all struggle at different levels. Those ‘tween’ years are so emotional and the girls’ leaders are walking and talking with them as each goes through all the stuff life is throwing at them. Because of FAC, we have common

ground to talk and work through problems and questions.” Women mentoring younger women has always been part of what Sandy sees as the ministry God has given her. She went to Heart to Heart, has gone through leadership training, has been a table leader, and has taught a couple of classes. “I study the Bible on my own all the time. I have attended Bible studies, but I found myself thinking that I wanted more. Carol Batten and I became friends – instantly – when I walked through the doors of FAC. Eventually, she started talking to me about Deepening groups, but it seemed that everything she offered didn’t fit my schedule. Carol never gave up.
and what God is doing in my life. We have different marriage situations, different educational levels, different lifestyles ― and we have marvelous discussions and fellowship!” Friendship ― that’s what Sandy has found in the Deepening group. “As I get older, I think back to when I was growing up. Churches were smaller, and there was a lot more one-on-one time. We developed friendships that have lasted a lifetime. The Deepening groups are bringing that back. This is critical to our relationship with God. As Pastor Don Hay said in his sermon a few weeks ago: ‘We can’t hope to get to know God better if we’re not investing in friendships that lead us in that direction.’ I have found more than friendship at FAC. I’ve found the deep kind of friendships that help me know Jesus better.
“God finally brought me to the point where I knew I was ready. I needed this type of group. I picked up my cell phone and without even saying who I was, I left a “You can be fed by the sermons at FAC, message for Carol: ‘I want one of these walk out the door, and live the rest of your groups. I really do. I’m ready. I’ll take a weekly life. Then you can come back and night, day ― anything you’ve got. Bye.’ It do that again for 52 weeks of the year. But wasn’t long before Pam Comer called to I needed more than that. And it’s all here say they were starting a group on Tuesday at FAC. You may have to reach out and find nights. Well, that’s the one night I couldn’t it among all the ministries, but you don’t go. Then Pam said, ‘How about Wednesday have to be alone. This church has what you nights?’ God is so good. “FAC has been amazingly impactful on me and my family. I know that I must allow God to be in charge of everything.” “A lot of things have changed in the last five years. My son is home again. I’m helping my grandchildren weekly. We are growing and learning together. But I’m learning to hear God from a different perspective, thanks to FAC. “FAC has been amazingly impactful on me and my family. I know that I must allow God to be in charge of everything. “I love FAC, and that will never change. I don’t know what God has in my future, but I am open to whatever He wants me to do. And I know that FAC is the part of God’s Kingdom in which I will serve.” ■

Another team is headed to South Africa! From March 6 to 25, part of the FAC family will be in Lephalale, South Africa, where they will serve and train leaders, feed the hungry, minister to children, and share the love of Jesus throughout it all. The team is comprised of Jim and Tammy Walter, Jody and Kathy Adams, Sally Brinkerhoff, Kurt Jarvis, Bernice Hall (Mar. 6-16), and Alan Hester (Mar. 15-25). In preparation for their departure, a few of the team members answered questions about their upcoming missions adventure.
This is your first FASA adventure. What drew you to FASA and this trip?
This isn’t your first FASA trip. When did you go before, and why are you returning?
Kathy Adams: When Jody came back from
Jim and Tammy: This is actually our fourth
SA, he was so encouraged by the people he was doing ministry with and most especially those he met there that he really wanted me to go with him the next time. I wanted to go but really wanted God's affirmation that I was to go because He wanted me there. I truly believe that blessing comes from being where God is calling you to be and being obedient to that calling. And through praying and reading His Word, He made it clear to me that He did!
Sally Brinkerhoff: Last summer, a good
friend of mine, Bernice, went on a FASA trip. After she returned, I attended a sharing time with those who had gone. I have to admit that I was interested in being involved but put the idea in the back of my mind. In December, the plannning for a group to teach with FASA Institute came to my attention. From then on, I do believe that God led me to follow through with going on this trip.
Taking Off on Another Missions Adventure!
trip! We lead the FASA ministry so we were on the first “recon” trip in August of 2013. We also attended both trips in 2014. All those trips were incredibly rewarding as we experienced God working in our own lives, in the lives of the team members, and in the lives of those to whom we were ministering. We are eager to see how God will once again impact the lives of so many on this trip.
Jody Adams: This is my second trip to South Africa. I went last April. When I was in SA last April, God placed on me such a heavy burden for this ministry that I knew before the plane took off for home that I was going to be back!
Bernice Hall: I loved my first experience in
September: interacting with the people who are so much like us in spite of their culture being so different. I loved seeing the children's eyes light up just by smiling at them and then seeing their joy when getting hugs from us. Of course, enjoying the God-created topography and animals was a special delight.
Jenn Dallow (Intern for six months): I went on both of the 2013 trips, and I am looking forward to seeing God work in and through the lives of each member of the team.
12 Fellowship Alliance Chapel | Newsletter
What are you anticipating and looking forward to on this trip? Jim and Tammy: On this trip, we will be
ministering to an entirely new group of people with the Leadership Institute. I am excited to meet them and, hopefully, help them develop as leaders for God’s Kingdom.
What do you think is special about the FASA Leadership Institute? Jim and Tammy: The leadership training
Jody: I am looking forward to seeing those
that I met last year and encouraging them to continue to serve God. I am also looking forward to making new relationships through the institute training.
is unique in many ways, but the two things that really stand out to us are how interactive it is and how practical it is. It is really fun interacting with those who come for the training as we learn together and learn more about each other. That aspect lends itself to building relationships, which is the main thrust of the ministry as a whole. I also love how the training is so practical that it can literally be used the next day!
Kathy: I am anticipating making new
Jody: Being able to be a part of teaching the
relationships and being able to share the love of Christ and equip the Afrikaans to bring others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Mostly though, I do not want to miss what they can teach me and what God will reveal when I am there!
Bernice: I am looking forward to deepening
relationships with our team, the South Africans I have already met, and the ones I will meet on the trip, along with Pastor Billy's family. I am looking forward to watching my miniChurch friend Sally experience South Africa for the first time. I also look forward to helping with the Leadership Institute training.
Jenn: Since this is my third time to Lephalale,
some things like seeing God's beautiful creation and experiencing various cultural differences may not capture my attention the way it will for people who are coming for their first or even second time. So it will be exciting to be with the newer team members as they process God at work in them and around them! And I am really excited to go on the soup run, see some giraffes, and eat some pap and wors!
Afrikaans how to reach others for Christ and equipping them with the resources to disciple others is something I'm greatly excited about being a part of.
Kathy: What is special is bringing them the tools to make disciples and leaders in their churches ― and to continue thriving!
Bernice: It is easy to teach with the tag team presenting approach, which includes fun, interactive experiences for the participants.
Jenn: The Leadership Institute allows for
individuals to learn in a relaxed environment. They are given the opportunity to learn not just by hearing, but also by doing. Instead of being lectured at, they are engaging with the material through activities, and I think that is a teaching approach from which everyone can learn!
How can the FAC family pray for you? Jim & Tammy: Pray that many people will
be able to come to the training. We never know just how many will show up. Last year, we were hoping for 30 when 60 showed up!
Bernice: Please pray for good health for the
team, sleep on the flight, God's hand in every detail, and using our team's individual gifts to minister to the South Africans who are so welcoming and open to receiving God's messages.
Jenn: I would love for people to pray that
I am able to juggle being a part of this team and getting settled for my six-month stay. I will be arriving two weeks before the team. Once they arrive, I want to be able to be a part of the team and remain present with them yet still be able to give some attention to the work I will be doing once the team has gone.
Sally: I ask that as the people in South Africa
are learning that God will make them excited about participating. I pray that I will see clearly what my part is in the sessions that we teach. I pray that every person that is going will know and follow God's leading in sharing His love with others.
Jody and Kathy: Our prayer is that the
Leadership Institute has a big impact on the local congregations and that we will be God's ambassadors!
Sally: The Leadership Institute provides a
wonderful way to share God's love in places around the globe along with teaching and training those who attend how to continue to spread it where they live.
Sally: I am looking forward to following
God's leading in sharing His love and teaching others. I can't say that I know what God will be teaching me on this trip, but I am sure that He has just as much for me to learn in the process.

In the fall of 2009, a journey began for four men. As they walked the path through the Catalyst Men’s Groups (CMG) series concluding with the Timothy Project, they established a deep relationship. This began the foundation for something beyond what they could have imagined. Being part Oglala Lakotah Sioux, God placed on Tim Vibbert’s heart a desire to show his people a true Bible-believing Christian. Tim says, “As we completed the Timothy Project, Michael More’ mentioned that we should do a service project. I began really praying for wisdom and direction to establish this native ministry. One thing I learned while researching was that it was best not to try to do this alone. So my new non-profit, called Tiyospaye Ministries, was going to need a governing council. I approached the other three men from our core group. Tiyospaye, pronounced tee-osh-pa-yea, means extended family in Lakotah, and these men have become my extended family throughout the past four years. The Tiyospaye Ministries council consists of Michael More’, George King, and me. Jon Coonley is our trusted advisor.
After our first meeting, Michael and I drove to Ocean City. We walked out on a jetty and prayed and dedicated Tiyospaye Ministries to God and put everything in His hands. The main thing we wanted to grab hold of was that our Creator is the Chief Cornerstone of Tiyospaye Ministries, and we were not moving without seeking His direction first (Ephesians 2:19-20). During the next several months, we conducted many planning meetings to create the guiding principles, bylaws, and other policies to establish Tiyospaye Ministries as a non-profit corporation. We submitted it all to the IRS and received our 501(c)(3) status this past summer. Missions Pastor Jim Entwistle said, “As FAC continues to expand, I love to see how God expands people's vision for what He's calling them to pursue. Tim Vibbert and his fellow Timothy Project brothers are a great example of that. I love to see FAC members hear God's call and follow it on their own. What I mean by that is this: Tim Vibbert and his Timothy Project brothers felt a call to minister to Native Americans. That is not a call that FAC as a whole is currently following, but I love having the opportunity to support these men in that venture! As we continue to grow and there are more and more people following God's call, I hope to see more people having the boldness and courage to pursue the lost in new and different ways. We might not all be out west together, but we can all follow God's call and support one another as the family of God!” Tim and his team took their first missions trip last summer to the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, in particular, the town of Mission, SD. The conditions of life on a reservation were a shock to several members of our team. While there, they helped with renovations at a local church;

installed new showers; expanded a bathroom; moved and added plumbing; built bathroom walls; and moved electrical work. Men’s Ministry leader, Erik Rebstock, said: “I love the story behind Tim’s group. I was there the first night that Rick Kushay and Ralph Cochran started leading the Wild at Heart group. Frankly, it was nine strangers with nine distinct stories ― each one more amazing than the next ― filled with pain and hurt, hope and grace. They met for 10 weeks at a time for two years, and each session brought them closer. They entered the Timothy Project and clearly left the three year Catalyst Men’s Groups process as brothers. Then they started Tiyospaye Ministry together. It’s a powerful example of the strength of small groups. There is no question in any of their minds ― they are joined for life.”
their Breaking down the Walls trip this summer to the Oglala Lakotah Pine Ridge Reservation in SD. They are partnering with a local ministry, Wings as Eagles, and will be doing outreach on the reservation and going into the remote villages to bring youth back to the Dream Center for special programs. Please pray for this trip and contact Tim Vibbert, info@ tiyospayeministries.org, if you are interested in joining them. You can also check out their website, tiyospayeministries.org. ■

HOPE
Garden
As the long winter finally winds down, it is now time to begin thinking about spring and the HOPE Garden! During the past two years, the ministry team of HOPE, Helping Other People Eat, has grown more than 2000 pounds of vegetables for the FAC Food Pantry. The tomatoes, squash, peppers, eggplants, onions, beans, and herbs have been distributed to families and individuals in need. Although food stamps and other government support programs help people with low incomes feed their families, the cost of fresh produce often makes it difficult to include in their grocery purchases. This is where the Food Pantry and the HOPE Garden can make a difference. The committed team of volunteers who have been responsible for the garden are welcoming new volunteers for 2015 when we start working on the garden in early to mid-April. Whether you have a green thumb or are a beginner who wants to learn about growing vegetables, we will welcome you to our team. Bring your whole family!

Service Hartford Crossing Service Project
Preparing food packages for hungry people worldwide
Mar. 22, 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m.
Sat., April 11, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., in the Welcome Center
Between the Hartford Crossing Sports Complex and across from Lenape High School is 120 acres of township-owned land that provides a perfect trail for nature walks, hiking, and riding bicycles.
The GAiN event is a perfect opportunity to serve together with your family members (ages 10 and up), friends, miniChurch, and neighbors!
Local businesses, organizations, and community members have been working together to develop a plan to create “Hartford Crossing Trails” ― at least five miles of trails for public use for community members to enjoy nature in their own town. This past November, FAC members, along with other community members, came together for the first “trail-making event” to clear branches and trash that had collected over the past year on the land provided for the Hartford Crossing Trail. On Mar. 22, we have another opportunity to connect with our community. Bring your friends, family, or miniChurch ― along with rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, leaf blowers, bow saws, pole saws, and other yard-cleaning tools. Work gloves and long pants are a must!
For More Information Hartford Crossing To sign up and or more information, go to myfac.org/register, or send an e-mail to Tracy LaRosa, projects@myfac.org.
GAiN To sign up for this year’s event, go to myfac.org/ register; click on “Sending Hope with GAiN.” If you have questions, contact Tracy LaRosa, projects@myfac.org. If you would like to make a monetary donation towards this event, you can do so during registration.
Sending Hope with GAiN
Join FAC and Grace Bible Church this April for our “Sending Hope with GAiN” event, a time when local churches will come together to work with the Global Aid Network (GAiN) to help prepare 30,000 meals for those who are suffering from hunger around the world. “God led me to FAC, and I’ve been attending for about a year and a half. [Through serving at GAiN,] I’m giving back what FAC and God gave me,” Rosemarie Dougherty said about last year’s event. “It is a part of the outreach of our miniChurch and a great opportunity to serve others,” Dick Yost said at last year’s event. GAiN works to help provide food, water, and opportunities to men, women, and children in underdeveloped and undeveloped countries across the globe. Working with local churches across the United States, GAiN holds service projects, such as mobile packing events, school supplies drives, fundraisers, and awareness campaigns. Last year, GAiN joined with FAC, Grace Bible Church, and others from around the community to hold a food-packing event ― creating packages of rice and beans to send to victims of war, poverty, and disease in Syria and Jordan. At last year’s event, volunteers were able to make 214 boxes of food, equaling 30,000 meals. “It’s an easy opportunity to serve others, and it’s a global outreach,” Mary Bazigan said. “It was something we were excited to do as a family, and we could do it to help out,” said Barbara and Rich Zieger, who attended last year’s event with their sons, Thomas and Billy. “Our family served with Feeding 5000, and the kids loved it,” said Beverly Lembeck, who attended with her husband Michael and children, Aidan, Erin, and Travis. “We saw this [GAiN] as another opportunity and thought we’d give it a try. It is time to spend together and serve.” At the event, volunteers will be placed into groups. For example, some will separate the rice and beans into smaller portions; some will seal the bags; others will pack the boxes.

It’s Elementary ― KBS that is!
KBS is short for Kids’ Bible Study. During each weekend worship service, children in Grades 1-4 meet in the Chapel to learn God’s Word in a fun and nurturing atmosphere. KBS begins with singing, prayer, and a lesson from God’s Word. After that, the children are divided by grades into small groups to play a game based on the lesson, review the Bible story, pray, and memorize Scripture. The time goes fast when you’re excited to learn about God!
Comments about KBS from some of the small group leaders
Declan Burton says, “KBS has been both a blessing and bonding for Sharayne and myself working together. Being able to share God’s Word with children has been rewarding.”
For More Information
Tim and Jen Barrett: “We really enjoy serving together in KBS! We cherish the time we spend with these kids as they open up to us, and we feel fortunate to see them begin to fellowship with other kids their age!”
Elementary KBS is looking for individuals and couples who love Jesus and want to share that love with His children.
Monica Hopely says, “KBS is such a blessing because as a small group leader you have the opportunity to share the love and teachings of Jesus with children who are open to learn about Him. Being a leader enables me to connect to the children by praying for them after they share their prayer requests.”
If you would like to serve in Elementary KBS, please contact Pastor Erik Jarvis, erikj@myfac.org.

A Deepening group offers an accepting, long-term, safe community that allows its members the freedom for open and honest sharing. The groups work together to explore transformation through a four-component spiritual formation process:
1. 2. 3.
dopting the Narratives of Jesus — which will most likely involve challenging and changing your understanding A (narratives) of who God is and who you are to God as Jesus reveals His Father to us.
Practicing Soul Training Exercises — which are designed to deepen and enrich our minds, body, and soul with a knowledge of the character of God through a spiritual formation process.
Participating in Community — We were designed in the image of God by God to live, love, grow, heal, and thrive in a Christian community. Community development is the centerpiece of The Deepening ministry. Group members come to expect and rely on the encouragement, affirmations, acceptance and challenges of the Christian community shared within the Deepening groups.
4.
Transformation Empowered by the Holy Spirit — The components of change happen when the work of the Holy Spirit is in the midst of them. The Deepening groups embrace the Holy Spirit as our essential advocate who navigates us through the process of transformation. Together we seek to increase our ability to hear, trust, respond to, and utterly rely on the Spirit’s guidance and direction.
If you have been led to seek a group that will encourage and challenge you to become the person God created you to be and if you desire to support and serve others to become all that God intended them to be and if you are driven to pursue your place and purpose in the Kingdom of God, The Deepening is designed to offer that and more.
Joining a Deepening Group As a participant in a Deepening group, you will meet weekly at the same time and same place as a way to develop a deepening community experience. To maximize this experience, your commitment to meet on an ongoing, regular basis is necessary. To start the process of joining a Deepening group, go to www.myfac.org/joindeepening and complete the Deepening Group Participant Interest Form. Once your form is submitted, you will be contacted by a Group Facilitator and matched with a group. Deepening groups are formed as facilitators become available, which may take up to three months. If after reading the information provided on the website you have questions or concerns about the Deepening experience, contact Carol Batten, carol@myfac.org, or Lisa Kletkewicz, 2boys4life@comcast.net.
