TSK iS A FAMILY with over a halfcentury of experience.
Originally founded in 1960 by George Tate, Tate Snyder Kimsey celebrated its 50th year of business in 2010. The firm has evolved and grown from its modest beginnings in Las Vegas, first with George Tate and then with his partner Bill Snyder joining him in 1979. The firm became known for its experience in public and civic projects with a regional design sensitivity that led them to become one of the leading architecture firms in The Southwest United States. Windom Kimsey joined the firm in 1991 and brought a broader interest in design and sustainability to the practice. He is currently the third generation leader of the firm. He has guided the business to expand to three offices in the western United States with the integration of Los Angeles based Caldwell Architects in 2009. Under his leadership, the firm has expanded its presence with an office opened in Shanghai, China.

His professional experience encompasses a broad range of project types and sizes, including many of the educational, religious and health care facilities that continue to play significant roles in our community. Bill took the leadership from George Tate. The diversity of Bill’s professional experience has helped to shape one of the leading design firms in the Southwest. Under his direction and leadership, Tate Snyder Kimsey has been honored with more than 40 design awards and numerous international publications, and has consistently been recognized among the top 50 architectural firms in the United States by “Architect” magazine.

Windom Kimsey is the President and CEO of Tate Snyder Kimsey and he oversees the planning, development, and design of all the firm’s projects. Over the past 20 years Windom has worked to enhance the quality of the firm’s portfolio with projects that provide clients with exceptional design solutions. He has built a reputation for compelling, sensitive design, and has guided the firm to many prestigious honors including over 90 design awards at the state, regional and national levels over the past decade.
Shelly Lyons is a Principal and TSK’s Chief Financial Officer. With over 30 years of experience in accounting, asset management and business finance, Shelly is in charge of the firm’s day-to-day operations as well as the strategic financial planning for long-term growth.

SHENZHEN BAY TECHnology PARK, twin towers Standing approximately 250 meters tall, the two towers are connected by a large podium base, which allows the profile of the towers to read as a continuous ribbon connecting the horizontal with the vertical. The 303,900 square meter program includes retail, office space, and a 5 star hotel. Symbolic of this progress, the formal language of the towers evoke a sense of movement and rhythm. The pair of “dancing� towers reflects the spirit of progression towards a promising city of the future. From the pedestrian access at the North-West corner of the site, public traffic is brought up to the 9.3m level to an open courtyard surrounded by shops and restaurants allowing for an ideal location for social interaction.

cHINA CONSTRUCTION STEEL structure HEADQUARTER office The form of this building is simple and delicate. In this project, we avoid attracting attention by being eccentric. Respect to the city and context that represents the client’s values is our prime priority. The sustainable strategy is combined into façade design. From the building simulation analysis, we integrate horizontal shades in the south façade and vertical shades in the east and west façade. TAICHUNG TOWER Rising from the earth at the Taichung Gateway Park, the Taiwan Tower soars above the peak of Dadu Mountain, a shining beacon of progress that is visible from the land, sea and air. This “lighthouse� will shimmer during the day as the reflective skins of the legs reflect the changing mood of the sky as the tower twists heavenward. At night, the lighthouse is at its most dramatic as the fractal materiality becomes an animated dance of light dissolving the structure into the heavens. McCARRAN INTERNATIOnaL AIRPORT satellite d-gates This project is an effort to reinstate the passion of passenger travel originally associated with the civic-scaled railroad terminals of the early twentieth century. Major projects such as Grand Central, Penn and Union Stations celebrated the arrival and departure of the rail traveler and at the same time represented a gateway to the metropolis. The Satellite D- Gates aspire to that earlier ethos, moving passengers through civic-scaled spaces in a structure that overtly expresses its function as a destination airport terminal. OTAY MESA LAND PORT OF ENTRY The principle function of the Otay Mesa Land Port of Entry is to facilitate the movement of people and goods between the United States of America and the Republic of Mexico. The Otay Mesa Land Port of Entry Modernization presents a Grand Faรงade that signifies a visual threshold for entry into the United States. liantang crossing The border crossing building is the largest and most important building in this project. The light and fluid form is articulated with the use of vertical fins. The fin system, generated through a number of solar access studies, provides shading to reduce heat gain as well as a dynamic interplay of light and shadow as the sun moves throughout the sky. As the building’s massing is organic, its surface direction is not constant, thus impacting the solar gains upon the surface. In order to reduce this solar impact, we designed the density and direction of the exterior fin based upon the changing surface geometry.

kunming cxtx auto city, phase ii The design is based on the characteristics of a hillside village. Winding roads with shops on both sides remind people of charming Italian mountain villages. Winding roads are not only pleasant to walk but also interesting to drive. The road is designed to fit the human scale. The bridge that connects both sides on the upper floor activates the space, thus becoming a focal point and a viewing platform. The development of the Design Studio coincided with the maturation of the firm’s ideas about desert design and serves as a tangible example of the firm’s design philosophy exploring materials and the craft of building. yichang new district cultural center The form of the three cultural buildings - Museum, City Planning Exhibition Building and Art Museum - are located at the heart of the site and interact with each other. The design is inspired by the canyon space of three gorges in China. The three buildings lean toward each other and the space in-between represents the narrow canyon space. After passing this area, the space opens up and the administration building sits at the end of the axis. sPRINGs PRESERVE VISITOR CENTER The Las Vegas Springs Preserve is a 73 hectare cultural attraction developed to commemorate Las Vegas’ dynamic heritage and to provide a vision for a sustainable future. The primary challenge was to convey the cultural heritage of the site by means of exhibits and interpretive media. The Springs Preserve is an interactive environment that highlights the heritage of the springs – a source of water for Native Americans living here thousands of years ago. CLARK COUNTY regional JUSTICE CENTER The $185 million Justice Center echoes the traditional courthouse by providing an elevated glazed entrance plaza, or civic square, that projects a strong identity to the street. A three-story glass atrium draws daylight deep into the heart of the building, a canyon-like area with native sandstone walls inscribed with quotes reflecting the universal concept of justice from various peoples and times. shenzhen bay technology park masterplan The rainforest’s multi-layer environment, ranging from the root layer to the emergent layer, is home to a wide variety of plant and animal species. Each of the rainforest’s levels satisfy different species’ living requirement and supports the continuous operation of its ecological system. We have taken our design inspiration from the rainforest as nature’s prototype for sustainable high density. Our concept of the “Urban Rainforest” is also stratified to create an inviting, 24-hour community, that appeals to diverse user groups and functions. Yichang new district masterplan The Tower in the Bolihe Park is the highest point of the whole site and the centralaxis originates here. The bridge which represents traditional Chinese villages brings the axis into the heart of the site where 3 cultural buildings interact and form various spaces. The axis finally arrives at the lake and the administration building upon where the enclosed pathway ends, revealing a new sense of space, contrasting the narrow spaces between the 3 cultural buildings. silverland middle school The design of the intermediate school is based upon grade-level wings which promote the notion of “student neighborhoods” and advance the practice of team teaching. The layout of the building circulation provides a functional connection for each wing to other destinations along the core of the school—such as the computer labs, library, gymnasium and performing/visual arts. The central courtyard provides an essential age-appropriate space for student interaction, as it serves the needs of a flexible population and offers opportunities for community use during afterhours engagements. The Golden Eagle serves as a gathering place for students and faculty. Its vibrant colors bring visual excitement to the campus, and its innovative form acts as a campus icon. arbor view HIGH SCHOOL The 2700-student school is organized around a two-story interior mall, which admits daylight to the internal classrooms and also provides for secured student circulation. The design of the new prototype breaks down the perceived scale of the large comprehensive high school by creating four separate learning communities within the building. Each independent house serves as a “school within a school� with its own administration, student services, and mix of classroom types. Students in all four houses share occupational, science, art, and technology classrooms, as well as a gymnasium, a cafeteria and a theater.
