A unique manifestation of a cinema at North Point Oct 2017 - Dec 2017

Floating O A marriage of art and bridge in Amsterdam Dec 2017 - End of 2017

The Forgotten Beauty Yau Ma Tei Project Free Hand-sketch, InDesign, AfterEffects Sep 2017 - Oct 2017 The project brief is to make a one minute short film that will take the audience to explore the architetural elements within the traditional Chinese building. As a team, we decided to compare the red brick building located in Yau Ma Tei with the modern residential tower, 8 water loo road, which is adherent to the side of each other. A strong contrast of modernism and classicalism is being captured as a film, aiming to achieve

Tradition vs Modern The red brick house was bulit a decade ago when there was hardly any buildings that were taller than it. 8 Waterloo road is an achievement of modern architecture. And the two are standing oddly side by side. The traditional building techiques that were found in the red brick house were still applicable in today's world. In a way, it seems that the terms tradition might not certain suggest outdated, just like the term modern does not gurarutee improvement.

Dynamic Transformation The concept is a dynamic transformation from the traditional house, in this case the red brick house, to a newly modern architecture. The aim is to create a drastic manifestation of all the structures and materials flying out of places and eventually come back to form the new architecture, a new phrase of life.

- THE FORGOTTEN BEAUTY -

Script From the book fliped open by itself and fold a paper plane for set out a journey throught time. The plane flies across the red brick house, witnessing the older generation. Then it arrives at the modern time, where it meets the 8 waterloo and eventually flying back to the book.

The Forgotten Beauty The Forgotten Beauty perhaps symbolizes the traditional building techiques. Through the journey of a paper plane, it takes the audiences throught the architectural elements, from the past to the present, witnessing the drastic changes over the years.

Street Extension North Point Project Free Hand-sketch, InDesign, Photoshop, Plaster Modeling Oct 2017 - Dec 2017 The project brief is to rennovate an existing building, which is a ventililation faculity owned by MTR, with a cinema. The design intent should cater for the surrounding environment and the general population of North Point. Street extension can be interpreted literally that the design of the architecture has already embedied the patterns of street, the greenery, the benches, the shops etc. The idea behind is to provide a communial space for people to relax and a cinema integrated

Initial Design Attempt Design development above showing sketches and models which are the process of designing. From the left open-roof cinema to the right concrete slab structure, all the of whch are conceived in a sense that it is trying to solve the problem of having a big chuck of building blocking the view of the surrounding flats

Final Concept The concept is derived from the way stocking stretches. From the above diagram, a vertical force is thrusting downward at the stocking fabric. The texture of the stocking then extort, and deform into a trianglar gemeotry comprising of tensions expressed by its wrickles and creases along the force path. Eventually, the form that it creates become something authentic and unqiue.

Concept model The Glowing Architecture The idea of glowing architecture is a further development and interpretation of the stocking. Due to stockingd are porous and the light can therefore limiinated from inside.

This model only is to intend for reference, The entire model is not based on acutal design..

Floating O Amsterdam Project Free Hand-sketch, InDesign, Photoshop, Rhino, 3ds Max, Vray Dec 2017 - End of 2017 A connection between two shores at Amsterdam. Between the ninty meters wide river, an art bridge has to be built. Other than a conivenient crossing, an explicit function of art must be illustrated through the entire user experience. The floating O provides a solution by embeding a relatively huge glassy sphere in the middle of the bridge, embracing by the spiral structure of the bridge. The function of the O is versatile, as it can be a stage for performace, an exhibition place for showcasing huge scuplture, or even just an attraction for the tour to enter and experience

Amsterdam & Bridges & Art Directy facing the Hermitage Museum, the bridge is not only merely a function of transportation, but also a promotion of art, especialy when its built in the spot. As shown in map (left), The city of amsterdam is surrounded by rivers, and the daily lives of the people rely heavily on bridges, hence a balance between functionality and art must not be underseen. Considering each and everyone of citizen in Amsterdam owned at least a bike, a pathway for biker is inevitable As a city of art, many people come to Amsterdam to partipate various of art events, ranging from ballets to art gallery exhibition. The design of the bridge should tackle at least one of those catorgory in ways that will satisfy the needs for those incomers.

- THE FLOATING O -

Internal Experience The intial concept set off with an approach to create a focal point and flattening the bridge so that the floating O stand out. The above and below sketch and diagram show the concept.

Concept of The O Right off from the beginning, the floating O has been conceived as a medium for performance, exhibition and tourist attraction. The versality depends on the need, and it changes over times. The idea of floating O stems from the mirror metalic sphere for its reflectivity of the surrounding world. Thus, the floating O here is designed that during day time, the O will be mirrorly reflective, echoed the beauty of Amsterdam onto the O surface, giving the bridge users a complete and yet interesting crossing experience.

Flat Style Dec 1-15 This is a initial design intends for a more open space in order to outstand the O.

Embrace Style Dec 16-25 To further enhance the functionality of space, an embracing style is designed to maximize the viewing angle and perspective ( upper and lower) while also adding more space for audiences.

- THE FLOATING O -

2nd Embrace Style Dec 26-end of Dec To further refine, the truss structural scheme was removed due to aesthetic concern. Thus, a more organic and fluent scheme is applied.
