nickel bottom is here!

Flashmob! W

e’re trying to figure out a clever name for our quarterly tenant socials. How do you feel about “Flashmob?” In any case, join us Thursday December 6th from 2 to 3pm for tea, fruit, chair massage and a meet-and-greet with Corey Dobyns and Jamie Butler of Love and Light Center (1145 Zonolite #7).

T

he ink is finally dry on our application for a $50,000 community grant from Park Pride to develop lowimpact walking trails and a community garden in Zonolite Park. We’ve also started a fundraising campaign to generate another $25-$50,000 in private donations. Dubbed “Nickel Bottom” Garden for a mythological African-American community that was once said to have existed in the area, our long-awaited garden is <this close> to becoming a reality. In addition to garden plots, we are also planning an open-air pole-supported structure in the garden’s wide center aisle, to be used by FloatAway Café and others for outdoor entertaining. We envision all

kinds of opportunities for educational programming in the new community space including wetland conservation education, programs for at-risk youth, chestnut tree reclaimation projects, bird migration education and more. Our elevated “flood-plain-proof” beds also make us uniquely suited for programming for seniors and the disabled. Now is the time to get involved and ensure that your favorite projects are considered. We have a lot of work still ahead of us and really look forward to your input as we grow. Please consider donating to the garden today. Both time and money are welcome. Learn more at Facebook.com/NickelBottom, or email ggrimes@tuckermott.com.

A mirror checked is an accident avoided.

BOi TIPS

Wit and wisdom by property manager Jan McCurry’s emotionally evolved alter ego “Boi.”

I

n the 1776 film “The Gumball Rally,” Franco says, “and now my friend, the first-a rule of Italian driving:” [Franco rips off his rearview mirror and chucks it out the window.] “What’s-a behind me is not important.” We seem to have a lot of Francos here on Zonolite Road. Our friends at 1075 report that they risk life and limb daily trying to navigate past drivers at 1095, 1123 and 1145 who back out into the street without bothering to check their mirrors. I myself have witnessed several near-misses (see photo to the left!). I’m here to tell you, Boi would be most displeased if s/he scratched his/her Honda Fit. Moreover, if precious Milli was injured, y’all might find yourselves plunging your own toilets for the rest of 2012, as I will be staging a property management boycott in protest! So let’s remember our driving 101 and check our mirrors before we back out into the street! You’re welcome.
