oin us in welcoming pop-up gallery {Poem88}, for a temporary exhibit on view November 14 through December 19 at 1123 Zonolite #20B. Under the curatorial direction of writer and filmmaker Robin Bernat, {Poem88} represents emerging and mid-career artists, and presents innovative explorations in a new artistic frontier.

{Poem88}’s newest exhibit features the work of Atlanta artist Nancy VanDevender and presents two views of California culture: the dry, desolate, but hauntingly beautiful desert and the luxuriant and curative spa. Each promises its own allure and revitalizing nature, mirroring the attraction and pull of the counter coast. An installation of two singlechannel videos with accompanying photographs and works on paper, The Left Coast invites the viewer to consider pleasure and its absence, the oasis and the parched landscape, another state and another state of mind.

Wit and wisdom from Floataway property manager Jan McCurry’s more emotionally-evolved alter-ego, “Boi.” hen the weather changes, I find myself giving thanks for the simple things: my warm TuckerMott coat, our amazing engineer, Hernan Soler, who keeps the Floataway Community in such good repair, and our long-term husband-and-wife janitorial team, Sergio and Maria Ramirez — two of the most dependable and hard-working individuals I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. I am especially grateful for the Floataway Community itself. It’s an enormous privilege to serve such creative and kind people. I hope you’ll be delighted by some of the small improvements underway or in the works around here. These include: • New roof coatings on the 1123 and 1075 buildings, which I’m told will offset energy costs by up to 20% •
Pavement repairs to the 1123 parking lot — Goodbye trip hazard and potholes, and hello bright white parking striping! (New seal coating for the 1145 lot has also been approved, stay tuned for more on that.)

New picnic tables for the community. These are currently placed at the end of the mulch path, near 1075. Eventually, we’ll move some of these into Zonolite Park.

IMPROVED ZONOLITE PARK TRAILS - COMING SOON! Dekalb County will be making significant improvements to the Zonolite Park trails, beginning this November. They plan to craft 1,000 linear feet of “permanent” trail (dug out, filled with gravel, & topped with mulch) from the granite steps behind 1123 Zonolite to the wooden bridge. Thanks Dekalb & South Fork!
