Stylish classics from Westside ladieswear boutique G. Gilbert

G

inna Gilbert of G. Gilbert Boutique, 9 years ago understood the vision behind Westside Urban Market. She was the first to bring ladies clothing to an area that had previously been known as an area for decorators. Ginna is a graduate of The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, and likes to describe the G. Gilbert look as: unique, sophisticated and "on trend" but not "trendy." She searches the market for unusual designers like Charles ChangLima and Pier Antonio Gaspari, who create timeless pieces for day and evening by combining novelty fabrications with their unbelievable design talent. Located between B. Braithwaite and Sprout, G. Gilbert also has fun things for Mothers to be! Ginna tries very hard to

In the lower level of their three-story, 34,000 sf store, find loads of kids bedding, lighting, accessories, kid-sized furniture, and low profile

For Fall, Ginna recommends updating your old leather jacket. That new fabulous "everything jacket" can jazz up last year's dress or make your favorite old jeans look new! Although it's hard to beat that "great white shirt," the new white shirt is a fun plaid. Pair that with Bettye Muller's red cowboy bootie and jeans for an easy current look. Scarves, layers of chains, chunky beads and big earrings continue to create excitement in the details. Ginna believes that clients should be pampered, and enjoy a glass of wine or water, while

they browse and soak in the experience. Join G. Gilbert for the "Firsts of Fall" Trunk Show August 28th and 29th. Featured vendors are: Agave Nectar denim, Lilla-P tees and Oracini belts. Register for a pair of jeans and a belt to be given away. Enjoy 10% off with a purchase of 3 or more t-shirts!

Taco Love

Atlanta local Lauren Mross discusses her love affair with Taqueria del Sol

L

auren Mross, Atlanta resident and co-founder of Sanctuary Real Estate, is a self-described "fish taco connesseiur." And in her opinion Taqueria del Sol has the best fish tacos in Atlanta, hands down. "They're perfect," says Mross, "The fish is crispy but not heavy or greasy, and the jalapeno mayonnaise has the perfect kick." As a flexitarian (ie: a vegetarian who occasionally indulges in animal proteins,) Mross generally sticks pretty close to her favorite, the fish tacos. However, on a recent visit, she

branched out and gave the chef's special, a crab-cake sandwich, a try. "Two thumbs way up," she said, "As a Baltimore native, I'm pretty picky about my crab cakes, but this is delicious!" Mross also recommends the salsa trio and queso dip. "I always bring friends from out of town to Taqueria," Mross says. "They're consistent and consistently delicious. I even celebrated a recent birthday with a big dinner at Taqueria del Sol; that's how much I love the place." www.taqueriadelsol.com.

Construction Update

Faces of WSPD

The first residents close in August and buildouts are underway for retail tenants making their home on the first floor

ou may have run across WSPD's biggest fan, beautiful blonde Kirk Whitfield enjoying $1 oysters at JCT Bar or shopping her way through the district. Here are some of her favorite WSPD Moments: • Favorite WSPD purchase? A knit sock monkey doll from Sprout made by local company blabla. • Favorite WSPD Food? Hands down, it's the Shrimp Po Boy from Star Provisions. • Favorite Time at WSPD? An engagement party at Quinones with all of my friends. • Dream WSPD shopping spree? I would start at Room & Board for a new couch, pick up some clothes for my boyfriend at Sid Mashburn, grab lunch at Taqueria, shop for wine glasses and dishes at Star Provisions, then move on to JCT for $1 oysters and champagne. I guess I would pretty much drink and eat my way through westside!

Kids were the highlight of the day; they enjoyed all sorts of fun activities, from Maypole dancing by Star Provisions, to papermaking at Seed Factory with Katy DeMent (pictured top right.) Everyone loved the nibbles from various WSPD restaurants and kicked up their heels to tunes from local bluegrass favorites Cypress Hill (pictured bottom right, reclining on outdoor furniture from Room & Board.) Thanks to all our volunteers! Word on the street is that our shops, restaurants and clients all enjoyed a great day of sales, shopping and fun at Westside Provisions District.
