eet the sales/design/curatorial /tailoring team at Sid Mashburn. Left to right – Tinoy, Justin, Pete, Matt, Kat, and Sid. Absent from the picture is HEAD tailor Dau who we can’t live without. We have a few of our favorites for fall to pass along to you all. Justin’s favorite is the Mackintosh all weather rain jacket. This year we have it in both solid and Glen Plaid – waterproof and as chic as it gets. He also loves the Sid Mashburn slide buckle belt in both brass and sterling . Matt loves EVERY season, and again for fall the Sid Mashburn plain front pant. “We really knocked the

fit out and it is pretty near perfect.” Matt also recommends the Penfield down outerwear collection - vests and jackets that are a modern fit from an old outerwear company with a lot of heritage and authenticity. Pete stands by the Sid Mashburn shirts since he was such an integral part in taking the quality up a notch with more stitches per inch and a

Ormsby’s

Warren Bruno brings great drinks and tavern fare to White Provisions

I

f anyone knows what will make Ormsby’s a good spot to relax, have a few beers, and enjoy some casual tavern fare, it’s Warren Bruno. After all, he’s been creating and running bars and restaurants like this for almost 40 years in Atlanta. “Ormsby’s is going to

reduction in price. Stop by and ask how he managed that!

3

be a good place to be,” says Bruno, who has teamed up with Michael Goot, formerly of Sweetwater Brewery. “The Ormsby clan were the fun side of my family growing up and this restaurant and bar is meant to capture that spirit. There were five aunts and five uncles. They were always laughing, sharing stories, playing games and yes, drinking.” Ormsby’s is scheduled to open at the end of November underneath Room & Board. Expect to find snacks, sandwiches and unpretentious entrees, along with a great selection of handcrafted beers and a full bar. There are two smoke-free levels for guests to enjoy, including a great space for groups to celebrate. Ormsby’s will be, quite simply, a good place to be.

Evolution of Sprout

Faces of WSPD

Original Westside Urban Market kid's boutique is moving across the bridge to White Provision

Maggie & Matt Schreck, residents at White Provision

O

n August 31, 2002, Rachel Baba opened what was soon to become one of Atlanta’s most treasured children’s stores, Sprout. Sprout’s beginnings in a 700 square foot showroom (what is now Star Provisions To-Go,) were marked by a hand’s-on approach to children’s retail. While parents shopped, kids were welcomed and encouraged to play with toys or read books.

30-something physician’s assistant Maggie Schreck and her husband, Matt, an attorney, were one of the first couples to close on a condo at White Provision. Q. Why did you decide to move to White Provision? A: We love the westside of Atlanta. I was fascinated by the White Provision project from the minute I became aware of it. Once I saw the model unit, I was sold. Q. Tell us about your new condo at White Provision. A. We are in an A unit with 1,661 SF - 2 BR’s plus an office. We have hardwoods throughout, marble floors in both bathrooms and a marble counter in the master bath. We are also installing sliding glass doors to close off the office. Q. What are your WSPD favorites? A. It’s a 3-way tie between my weekly Taqueria fix, shopping at Sprout and drinking wine at JCT Bar!

Galleries (Cont'd) strong sense of community and emphasis on the neighborhood experience, the gallery will introduce Atlantans to an array of local artisans. Astolfi Art will feature the works of Todd Murphy, Felice Sharp and John Folsom on Thursday, Nov. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. as well as other local artists including Kevin Archer and Tony Hernandez throughout the gallery’s three-month lease. Tanner-Hill and Astolfi Art join Jackson Fine Art, an internationally known gallery specializing in 20th century and contemporary photography whose client list includes the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The High Museum and others. Tanner-Hill & Astofi Art are welcome additions to the thriving creative community at White Provision. After two years, Sprout moved across the breezeway to its current Westside Urban Market location. Over the next five years, Sprout’s clientele began to grow up. Infants and toddlers grew into kindergartners and “big kids.” Itching to find brands and space to meet the needs of the Mommies who’d loved and supported Sprout, Rachel made a big leap of faith and opened Seed Factory in 2008 (www.seedfactoryatlanta. com.)

With a focus on clothes, toys, furniture, books and activities for bigger kids (and the young at heart!,) Seed Factory is the big sister to infant and toddler-focused Sprout. After the holidays, in January 2010 Sprout will be toddling across the bridge to make a new home inside the Seed Factory space. “Seed factory is the natural growth of Sprout,” says Rachel Baba, “I’m combining all the lessons I’ve learned in my 7 years at Sprout into one working space. Sprout is not going away; the new Sprout will be called ‘Sprout at Seed Factory.’” The move will benefit clients who currently run back and forth across the bridge, debating which brands to purchase. Also, clients will soon be able to purchase some of Sprout’s most beloved merchandise online at www.sproutatlanta.com.
