Crate Bridge World Record Attempt
With a challenging design, our goal is to bring the world record of the largest span solely made of beer crates from Eindhoven back to where it belongs: the TU Delft. A team including master’s students, professors and professionals is responsible for design and modelling. Driving without a wheel?! (workshop for kids/dutch)
Get a glimpse of a future in which driverless cars are the norm. Would you dare to get in? Steven Puylaert explains how cars in the future may well be capable of driving themselves. Maurits Ertsen is a lecturer at the department of Watermanagement. He provides the Civil Engineering in Developing Countries course in an unorthodox doing away with vague ideals and teaching his students that developing countries don’t exist, but that you do need additional knowledge to be able to work well there. Ice as spacecraft propellant, is it possible?
The Space Engineering Department at TU Delft is researching alternative and innovative micro-propulsion systems for nano-satellites and Cubesats. For this particular class of satellites, the use of safe and non-toxic propellants is very important: thus, why not water or ice? Preliminary research work has shown that an icepropelled micro-propulsion system, with a performance matching the requirements of many prospective CubeSat missions, is feasible. The Ice Man – a medical mystery unravelled? With Ice Man Wim Hof and researcher Matthijs Kox. Two hours of sitting in a tub of ice. This feat that Wim Hof is able to perform seems a medical impossibility. While an untrained person would likely die of hypothermia, Wim has never been at risk of being harmed. Researcher Matthijs Kox looked into Wim Hof’s method, and for the first time it was scientifically proven that human

Impact!, Ethical reflection through art
What is the importance of ethical reflection concerning new technologies? That is the subject of the debate that Bèta Balie Delft organizes at the final meeting of the Impact! project. During this experiment, 23 students of the TU Delft have explored the ethical aspects of their future profession and the role of technology. All projects will be revealed and judged by a jury. Klankkast (performance & workshop)
Klankkast is a mobile performance where participating children and elderly people play with self-made musical instruments. The Sound Choreography unfolds while exploring the acoustic properties of the surroundings. It is an interplay between body movements, architecture and produced sounds. OC&C Ringvaart Regatta 40th
The OC&C Ringvaart Regatta is a 100km rowing marathon, started in 1976 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the rowing club D.S.R.V. “Laga”. After rowing the 100 km the rowers finish from 15:00 onwards and celebrate their performance at the festival at ‘Lijm & Cultuur’. Photovoltaic lab: workshops for high school students
Solar cells convert sunlight directly into electricity thanks to the photovoltaic (PV) effect in semiconductor materials. Our PV lab at Delft University of Technology is a world level didactical space. Spaghetti bridge building contest

Pre-university education pupils will fight it out for eternal glory during the spaghetti bridge building contest. Spaghetti is a challenging material to build with particularly because it withstands pressure so poorly. A properly constructed spaghetti bridge can carry more than 100 times its own weight. Drop by at the faculty and watch them build a bridge according to their own design. A serious trial will determine who built the strongest bridge. Ufd Marina van Damme Grant
Once a year the Delft University of Technology Foundation (UfD) awards € 9.000,- to a female graduate of TU Delft. Marina van Damme’s aim is to enable young female engineers to develop themselves to broaden their chances in the job market. The winner will be awarded at the IFOT festival. a day of wonder A day of Wonder is the spectacular finale of the International Festival of Technology. On June 5, from 16.00 – 23.00h, the Delft campus will transform into a giant podium for technology, music, art, spoken word, stand up science and a versatile food court. You will be amazed in every corner of the festival area. The festival entry is free of charge. Location
A day of Wonder will be held in a beautiful location at the TU Delft campus, in and around the Aula Conference Centre, Mekelweg 5 Delft. During the festival, there will be clear signposting around Delft leading to the festival site.
Free Tuk –Tuk shuttle service
There will be a free tuk-tuk shuttle service (DAM Delft E-shuttle) between different locations: A day of Wonder festival area, market Delft and theater de Veste (Fringe).
Tokens food and drinks
At A day of Wonder you will pay food and drinks with tokens. Token desks will be available on site. Payment by credit card or foreign debit card is not possible. You cannot withdraw cash at the festival site.
House Rules · The minimum age for the purchase of alcoholic drinks is 18 years. In the event of any doubts, the organisers are entitled to insist that proof of identity is shown. · The organisers reserve the right to make changes to the programme if necessary. Jacqueline Govaert
Poppy jazz and easy listening spring songs Armed with only her voice and a piano Jacqueline Govaert (well known from the band Krezip) takes you down to sweet summer meadows or a smoky jazz club. As

With their strong live shows this band being compared to acts such as Manu Chao, Gogol Bordello, Ska-P and La Pegatina. Rolling Beat Machine Showmachine alive
The Rolling Beat Machine definitely let’s heads turn. This weird contraption with amps, speakers, and even a drum kit looks a bit like an old-school psychedelic flying machine. The new and improved Rolling Beat Machine has 5 horns that can rotate and bellow out their music at a height of 5 meter! With their motto: “simplify the liberation and amplify the redemption” the five musicians feed the machine that produces music which can be best described as: Spring ‘n Blues and Soul Swinging Funk. GROOVER HANGOUT Chill out in the Groover Hangout! Groover is known for its biggest and most swinging student jazz club of Europe. Groover hosts a stage in living room setting with jazzy funk, funky jazz and soulful soul chanting from the speakers. STAND-UP SCIENCE – DISCOVERY STAGE Tales for the Curious Mind
Where there are people, there are stories. Storytelling is our way to get a grip on an increasingly complex world. Storyteller Sahand Sahebdivani invites three following guests to share their stories about their latest findings and inventions and shares a few stories himself. Sit back and relax and allow yourself to be seduced into a world of technology where everything seems possible. First guest: TU Delft Researcher Paul Henselmans is developing a minimally-invasive surgical instrument which causes the least possible damage to soft tissues such as muscles and tendons during surgery. The innovation lies in the design of the device with respect to the flexibility and stiffness of the steerable tip, which is inspired by how tentacles are used in the natural world. Second guest: Dutch designer and couturier Leon Klaassen Bos designed a LED Light Dress for the ‘Smart Technology’ exhibition at Nemo Science Centre Amsterdam, which consists of silk, 2000 LED lights and a small computer to control the lights. After the success of this exhibition Klaassen Bos was commissioned to design a LED Bridal Dress, which can be admired at close hand in the Future of Fashion expo. Third guest: TU Delft assistant- professor Guido de Croon and his team have developed the DelFly Explorer: the world’s first Micro Air Vehicle with flapping wings that can avoid obstacles unaided. The uniqueness of this achievement lies in the DelFly Explorer’s very low weight, which is a mere 20 grams. DISCOVERY STAGE: 19.00 – 19.40

Organ on a chip
In an Organ-on-Chip a human organ is reproduced - in its most elementary form - in a micro-fabricated device. The young Formula Cruisers team designed an electrical race car which involves light constructions, batteries and battery management systems and sustainable production methods.
Greenchoice Forze
The team constructs and races a hydrogenpowered fuel cell kart in a competition called Formula Zero. The ‘Zero’ in Formula Zero refers to zero emission. By designing, building and racing this electric fuel cell racing car, the makers hope to show how much fun the future will be. This 260 horsepower machine can reach a speed of 220 km/h, while emitting only water from its exhaust.and we might even be able to show a fraction of its potential.
Green Village
The Green Village aims to facilitate paradigm shifts with regards to sustainable technologies. Future energy systems will be developed in cooperation with research institutions, companies and users. The Green Village is the proud owner of one of the first commercial fuel cell cars in The Netherlands, which will be on display.
NDASSIE-ESS: Solar-Emergency-Mobile Energy Technology The world’s newest solar station, combining secured charging slots, advertisement space and a TV screen broadcasting an educational programme. Larger than a vending
machine, people can connect their mobile phones and small electronic devices for recharging when the batteries are flat and there is no electricity supply.

Solar fuels: Creating H2 fuel from water and sunlight
Focusing on producing artificial fuels, such as hydrogen, in a renewable way from water and solar power. We study photo electrodes that absorb sunlight and at the same time react with water to create oxygen and hydrogen.
Solar-powered infotainment spot
Grid-connected infotainment spots are used in modern cities to offer information such as tourist information, parking, and sleeping accommodation. The solar powered infotainment spot will raise photovoltaic awareness.
Wind challenge
A wind turbine with blades that tilt in higher winds so that the turbine is better controlled than competing wind turbines, which are all blown apart in high winds. We will show a short film of a site with wind challenge turbines and we have a demo turbine at the festival.

The Shaft Actuated Tip Articulation, a new type of steering mechanism for robot surgery, requires only independent rotation of tubes for hinge articulation, thus rendering cables, gears or other internal components that are normally found in steerable endoscopic instruments obsolete.

3D paintings
By exactly modelling the appearance of a painting, we learn what makes a painting look the way it does, and how the Master has achieved this. This allows us to make 3D printed reproductions that give rise to the question: If we can make a perfect reproduction, what is the value of the original? Come and have a look and decide for yourself.
Argo
Is it a submarine? Is it a dolphin? No, it is the Argo! Argo is half submarine half dolphin, and is powered by the cycling action of the operator that controls a dolphin tail. The concept of imitating nature is called Biomimicry. According to this theory, the results of evolution must be efficient and should be copied. ‘Houtje Touwtje’ Design
Jewellery and lasers, an amazing combination. The clean designs are created with a laser cutter, which cuts and burns wood precisely, a technique that remains visible in the jewellery itself.

Lightwaves
The installations by Zoro Feigl (1983) dance and twist. Placed together in a space, the separate works become one: large and ponderous in places, nervous or gracious elsewhere. With no beginning or end, the objects appear to be locked into themselves. You become entangled in their movements: they embrace and amaze you, but can also frighten you.
Plofkist
Let yourself be amazed by a big aluminium box by artist Peter Zegveld. These works combine technology, movement, and art. He makes use of physical principles such as the way light, air, sound, and gravity behave.

Designers Leonie Tenthof van Noorden and Eunbi Kim present ‘This Fits Me’: a system that allows people to design unique and personalised fashion using 3D body scanning and generative algorithms.
Marina Toeters – multiple projects: ‘Knitted Solar Fiber shirt’
To test the usability of “solar-fiber-in-development” Jesse Asjes and Marina Toeters began integrating functional fibres via a flatbed knitting process. The technology behind solar fibre is a flexible photovoltaic fibre that converts solar energy into electrical energy.
‘Hell-Well-Being’
The “Hell–Well–Being” e-scarf warns the wearer about pollution. The knitted polyester scarf contains a gas sensor, led display, lipo battery, a chip and a switch. The terms used are “being” in the middle, and “hell” (indicating a bad situation) and “well” (indicating a healthy environment) at either side.
‘Spine Dress’
From an energy efficiency perspective, it’s senseless that we heat our houses and workspaces instead of heating the microclimates around our body: the only place where we actually need warmth.
‘Caring Work Wear’
Comfortable, sustainable and healthy clothes. The undergarment gives health professionals, who often do heavy physical work, support to the knees and back. The outerwear is equipped with an anti-bacterial coating, which helps reduce the chance of bacterial contamination. Electronic ‘wearables’ in
the clothing that is connected to a smartphone app can issue a warning in case of overload.
Eef Lubbers – ‘Unlace’
The Unlace is an interactive lace lingerie garment that allows partners to connect by becoming more aware of touch, time and warmth. When the man touches the woman this is sensed by the garment, after which the surrounding threads slowly heat up and change from black to skin colour, ‘undressing’ the woman and guiding the man’s hand to another spot to touch.
Geertje Hofstee – ‘Jace’
A smart dress that cools the wearer. The dress reacts automatically to temperature fluctuations, but can also be operated manually.
Kirsten Lussenburg – ‘3D printed corset - Aralia’
A 3D printed bra. A new, cellulose-based material to improve the comfort of 3D printed textile. The resulting material, consisting of a specific structure and material, is applied to the design of a bra.

Make your own G-star with the ‘Rawthentic kit’! This kit features a manual, tools, supplies, special fabrics and laser-cut panels to make your own piece of G-star clothing.
Leon Klaassen Bos – ‘LED Bridal Dress’
The LED Bridal Dress is a gown with lights, inspired by the brideto-be’s favourite game Tetris and including a remote control to add a gaming element. In November 2014, this dress was put on exclusive exhibition in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
