palimpsest // 2015-ongoing Almost anyone who has met with me once in the past could easily recognize me by most identical partof my body, my face. I, on the other hand, can only see my face through a mirror, in a photograph or on a video. In other words, I am not exposed to my face like other people. In addition, my understanding about my facial appearance is very fragile and subjective, at the same time biased towards on my perception about it. Most probably, this is the reason behind why I am trying to ignore some of my photographs as representation of self, even at some time in the past I have been captured in such a certain pose by the camera. So, it looks like facial appearance does not work as an identiďŹ er for self. Those raised some questions on my mind: Is it possible for me to introduce and identify myself to me? How can I know that this is, the thing in this body, so called me, still me all the time? What should I use/look for to recognize myself? Using entirely my own body parts‘ photographs with digital collage technic, I created new bodies for myself so that I can recognize myself. I am aware that self is a changing phenomenon, but with this project I tried to set forth some certain identiďŹ ers for myself. These new bodies of me for me are using the symbolism that I built through animals and corresponding to some of my personality traits and feelings.

goldilock conditions // 2018 At any moment 0f my life, especially in my childhood, if external conditions had arisen differently, would I grow into the same person? While our physical appearances largely rely on the information written in our DNA, our personalities are predominantly shaped through our experiences and external conditions, most of which are random, such as our nationalities or genders. We become who we are mostly in consequence tof hose random events and conditions. Each random event can create a material impact on our identities. In other words, different events and sequences can yield to different personalities. Wth this video project, I am trying to imitate the process of me becoming myself as a result of this process. Randomly distributed pixels of a child photograph iteratively reach to itself in the video, via a code written in a programming language. In each iterative step, some part of thephotograph emerges in its right place, and the rest of the photo distributed randomly. This iteration goes until every pixel fits its right place to form the whole photograph. In each step images are saved, summing up 13 948, and used to create the video. For this project, I used a photograph bought from a Flea Markt. Untill at a certain age, all of our photos are representing almost the same primitive identity, that does not yet deviate from each other from the perspective of identity. So, every childhood photo can represent me as well. The project name is also trying to establish a connection between how the process of the universe and our personalities are alike. goldilocks conditions : the exact amount of ingredients and sequence of events from the begining of the universe that enabled the life to exists. any kind of change in these conditions could have caused a different universe.
true copy*
changes the places of the pixels of identity photographs aims to create true copies of the original photographs
* a faithful duplicate of an original document that is virtually identical and suďŹƒcient for its purposes to act as one
true copy // 2017 The photos on an identity card, a driver license or a passport are all used to identify the person in question. However, we are not using them to identify ourselves since it is impossible for us to come across and verify ourselves. Therefore, looking to my photos on my identification cards, technically, I am gathering a useless photographic information, especially the colours. As a result, I come up with the idea that, we should be indifferent to the any combination of our face’s colors. By rearranging the pixels of identity photographs, I created alternative images working like a true copy of the original photograph. Eventually, the new image consists the same pixels as the original photo which are located differently.
