our experienced team

expert advice

SkiBound has been operating for over 30 years, and it’s the experience of our knowledgeable staff that sets us apart from the rest.

We pride ourselves on having the most experienced sales team within the school ski industry. Our enthusiastic, knowledgeable and passionate staff will support you throughout the entire booking process. Either face-to-face with our Regional Account Managers or over the phone with our expert office-based team, we will listen to your requests and recommend a resort that best suits your needs, budget and ski tour requirements. Almost all of our sales team members have been with us for many years and have visited the majority of our featured resorts, enabling them to pass on insightful, first-hand information about your preferred destination.

The majority of our management team have been involved in the school skiing industry for longer than they like to admit, building exceptional relationships with Party Leaders, resort staff and suppliers. Our extensive experience enables us to work in partnership with you to provide the perfect ski trip that you and your students deserve.

dedicated tour coordinators Once you have confirmed your booking with us, you will be assigned a dedicated Tour Coordinator who will handle all the pre-tour administration of your school ski trip. Your personal Tour Coordinator will be your main point of contact and is on hand to discuss any queries regarding the finer details of your trip; such as flights, coaches, rooming, ski lessons and evening entertainment options. They will be able to provide your group with all the ‘added extras’ that will make your school ski trip extra special – from tour hoodies, to pre-booking evening entertainment packages. Detail is key and the role of your Tour Coordinator is to ensure that everything is addressed before you depart the UK, ensuring that you have a stress-free experience whilst in resort.

operations team Our Operations Team members boast extensive experience, local knowledge and excellent contacts, as well as a thorough understanding of what school groups want from their ski trip. With permanent offices in the French Alps and in the heart of the Austrian Alps, as well as a strong presence in each of our other territories throughout the year, the team’s focus is to ensure that we are working with carefully selected airlines, coach companies and overseas suppliers in the best ski resorts. The Operations Team will ensure that we have professional, dedicated and fun resort staff on hand to support your group throughout the duration of the trip.

resort team We follow a rigorous recruitment process to ensure that we provide the best possible in-resort team. We look for enthusiastic, passionate people who can deliver outstanding customer service. Once selected, all of our reps undergo the relevant background checks and take part in a thorough training course which includes Child Protection and Health & Safety. We have an extensive list of experienced reps who continue to work with us year after year – often requested by our groups following excellent performances from previous years. In the event of unlikely and unexpected incidents, our reps are fully supported by our Resort Area Managers, local offices and our UK office.

School ski trips are often more than they seem. Of course, they offer the chance to go outdoors, learn new skills and develop confidence on the piste; but more importantly, they're a rich opportunity to learn important life lessons and can be a world of self discovery for young learners.

Building confidence For some pupils, a school trip will be the first time away from home without their family; or perhaps their first time on a plane. It's a very exciting time and offers a chance for students to build character and gain confidence in themselves. Being outside of their comfort zone will push them to take initiatives and they may find they have to deal with things by themselves. Talking to new people, being comfortable asking questions, working as a team, managing allowance - there are many things that come into the mix when being on a ski trip. Children are seen to be more confident and learn a lot about their own abilities. The slopes can be scary for some; students will have to push their limits and maybe confront their fears. Learning how to turn, stop and managing your speed on skis is not always a walk in the park! A ski trip is an amazing opportunity for children to become more independent and grow as people.

Discovering a new culture A ski trip means going abroad and discovering new cultures. Whether it’s the French Alps, the Milky Way in Italy, or across the pond in North America, it will certainly be a new cultural experience for students. It can be difficult for students to practise languages at home or with friends, so voilà! The ski trip opens up the chance to exercise these skills. Pupils will get the chance to communicate in new ways, understand cultural differences and learn new ways of doing things. A key element to discovering a new culture is trying out the local cuisine. Food is an important part of any culture and can teach students a lot about a country. Fondue anyone? How about some tapas? Pizza? Or a hearty poutine?

6

skibound.co.uk

Bonding and social aspects Time on the slopes is a great opportunity to build confidence. Going full speed down a mountain is a pretty intense experience not only for young people, but for anyone! But it is also the chance for students to bond with their friends and other students which truly makes trips memorable. Sharing dorms, eating meals together and looking out for each other brings children closer. Developing social skills from a young age is as important as any other skills set and the ski trip provides a perfect environment to do so. It’s a great time to bond with others, as well as adults such as teachers, ski instructors, reps, hotel staff and locals. Being in new social situations with people they don’t know so well can be daunting, and the ski trip is an amazing opportunity to build relationships outside of their regular social circles, making new friends and creating lifelong memories.

Getting inspired Being outdoors in stunning, crisp and dramatic scenery can inspire children to get out more. It’s a good reminder for some that exercising and playing outdoors is really good fun and there’s a whole world away from phone and computer screens. Students will come back with precious memories and perhaps with the drive to do more outdoor activities with their friends. It might even spark interest for taking on a new sport! Being abroad may also inspire pupils to travel more and visit new places. The travel bug can easily be caught from a young age and who knows, some might already be planning their gap year following a ski trip! Or it may open a few eyes to the possibility of becoming a ski instructor or working seasons abroad. Whatever students get out of their trip, we can guarantee that they will come home with so much more than a load of washing and tired legs...

catering options

Undoubtedly, safety and security are the most important aspects of your trip. SkiBound staff are Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checked and hired based on their skills and eagerness to provide excellent customer service to school groups. All of our SkiBound Clubhotels meet the ‘Type R’ classification of high standards in building security, including fire detection, fire containment, fire-systems control, smoke evacuation and people evacuation.

après-ski options

Schools staying at our Clubhotels benefit from our in-house ski hire and ski fit service exclusive to SkiBound groups. Party Leaders appreciate this added service which cuts out on time spent walking to the nearest ski hire shop (this does not apply to snowboards). We believe in only providing the best equipment, which is why we continue to choose Salomon as our suppliers and train qualified ski technicians to ensure your students are fitted out with the right kit for your school and the best fit.

Our Clubhotels cater specifically to school groups, delivering healthy, nutritional meals to fuel your students on the slopes. While we encourage students to explore new flavours and regional delicacies, we also have a number of staple dishes available to ensure all can enjoy a great meal. Any special dietary requirements communicated to your personal Tour Co-ordinator will be passed on to the Clubhotel, where our chefs can create dishes to meet your school group’s needs.

safe & secure

Whether you are seeking a disco, quiz, karaoke night, or games evening, our SkiBound staff are on-hand to arrange these and of course take part. Staying in a SkiBound Clubhotel means you have the flexibility to choose your evening entertainment options. These may include evenings out to any of the resort’s many aprèsski activities. We can pre-book and pre-pay these evenings for you prior to departure taking away the worry and hassle of accounting for extra budget.

Why travel to austria? Austria offers a variety of ski resorts from bustling Zell am See and Saalbach to the authentic charm of Kitzbßhel. The Austrian Alps are blessed with a long and snow-sure ski season. In recent years there has been huge investment into Austrian resorts' infrastructure, connections and snow making technology. Austria's ski schools are world famous: talented and highly-trained instructors provide first class tuition to all. Off the slopes, Austria offers an abundance of traditional après-ski options ideal for your school ski trip.

skibound.co.uk 37

The all-round school ski trip destination for more than 40 years A veteran of the ski world, Austrian resorts continue to draw on their previous successes that brought about the 70s boom, drew in fans of the downhill circuit and saw the first school ski trips being undertaken in the 1960s. Resorts are combining past success with the best aspects of a traditional alpine experience, whilst utilising the best new technology has to offer. Popular across the World Cup circuit, Austrian ski resorts are supported by some of the most modern ski lift systems in Europe providing access to a variety of skiable terrain and top glacier ski areas perfect for all levels.

leaders in linked ski resorts The size of a ski area is one of the main factors Party Leaders will take into consideration when planning a school ski trip. Linked resorts are becoming more and more popular due to the opportunity they represent, allowing skiers to access kilometre upon kilometre of piste by lift instead of road. Austria has led the pack in this regard, developing bigger, more technologically advanced super resorts such as the vast Arlberg region.

the cradle of alpine skiing The Arlberg region is the largest interconnected ski area in Austria and one of the top five in the world with 305km of piste. It earned its place as number one after the arrival of the Flexenbahn cableway during the 2016/17 season, the final link connecting all five ski resorts in the Arlberg region which can now leisurely be reached on skis. Thanks to world-class hospitality and value for money, resorts in the Arlberg attract skiers from all over the world. Well-known events such as the 22km-long White Ring ski race and The White Rush, a mass race, make the Arlberg region the pinnacle in Austrian ski experiences.

Technology on the slopes When it comes to technology, Austria’s lift systems far surpass those found in other countries. Austrian resorts have been seen to improve year on year to ensure a smooth transition to the piste. They are at the origin of the trend seeing resorts build partnerships with neighbouring slopes to provide skiers with a greater variety of terrain. Party Leaders will no doubt appreciate the advanced technology our chosen Austrian resorts offer and how easy it is for their students to get around the mountain.

38 skibound.co.uk

The alpine experience Beautifully conversely to the cutting-edge technology of the infrastructure, Austrian resorts maintain their roots and provide visitors with a real alpine experience. Think chocolate-box beauty and you’ve got many of our chosen locations across Austria. Hotels provide school groups with a comfortable stay, mixing modern day necessities with rustic, natural interiors that bring to mind traditional wooden chalets often synonymous with skiing. The local cuisine offered in many locations is just what the doctor ordered after a long day on the slopes, why not try a hearty käsespätzle, Alpine macaroni, or enjoy a gröstl, a farmers’ dish traditionally made out of leftover meat, vegetables and potatoes. Thanks to modern yet rustic hotels in postcard-worthy locations, combined with friendly staff and efficient service, Austrian resorts tick all the boxes to deliver an authentic mountain experience.

On the slopes of Austria Austria offers amazingly varied ski terrain, from gentle nursery slopes to glacier skiing at over 3,000m. Across the newly linked resorts, Austria is still able to offer skiing on a higher level despite some villages being located lower in the valley. Snow-sure resorts, including Obertauern and Sölden, provide school groups with great options late into the ski season. Head to the famous Kitzsteinhorn Glacier from Zell am See and students will be treated to an array of pristine slopes and snowparks offering variety to both casual skiers and adrenaline seekers. The added bonus of getting more for your money in the shape of linked resorts and efficient state-of-the-art lift systems puts the cherry on the top in making Austria unbelievable value for money in the school ski market.

Top ski mileage in Austria: Ziller Valley - 515km Arlberg Region (St Anton) - 305km linked Salzburger Sportwelt - 270km (with access up to a total of 760km in the full Amadé region)

Canada is becoming more and more popular as a ski destination for school groups, and with good reason. The famous Canadian hospitality attracts guests all year round and is up there among the best in the world! When it comes to skiing, students and teachers will enjoy fantastic snow conditions across a variety of terrain. When the weather is not so forthcoming, Canadian resorts provide extensive snow making facilities, and off the slopes groups are treated to outstanding accommodation and impressive, unique après-ski options. But outside of your group's days in resort, a ski trip across the pond offers something truly exciting – a city stopover. A ski trip also presents the opportunity to visit some of Canada’s most vibrant cities. SkiBound’s chosen resorts are mostly located just a few hours’ drive from many cities, so take the experience to the next level on your next trip.

Calgary Also known as ‘Cowtown’ or ‘Stampede city’, Calgary is a cosmopolitan and modern city, despite its rodeo reputation! Located in the state of Alberta, close by to SkiBound resorts Banff and Jasper, it was the first Canadian host of the winter Olympics in 1988. Considered as one of the best places to live in Canada, Calgary will not disappoint with a wide range of activities from museums, art, sports, shopping, festivals and idyllic parks.

Vancouver Put simply, it’s impossible not to love Vancouver. The city is well known for its urban centre surrounded by nature and offers so much more than the usual museums, shopping malls and impressive skyline. See your students explore the flora and fauna in beautiful Stanley Park, (best discovered by bike), take the cable car up to Grouse Mountain to catch a glimpse of some bears, or take a boat trip out onto the ocean to watch whales in their natural habitat. Vancouver is within reach of SkiBound resorts Big White and Sun Peaks.

Montréal Montréal is located in the French-speaking region of Québec and boasts a unique culture and beauty, drawing influences from its French and English traditions. Many music and arts festivals take place here throughout the year and Montréal holds the nickname ‘city of a hundred steeples’ due to its numerous stunning churches. The city spreads out from a central island and teems with cosmopolitan vibes – well worth a visit to put those language skills into practice! Groups travelling to Tremblant are best placed to stopover in Montréal.

Québec City To find more about Canada’s fascinating history, a must-visit is the beautiful city of Québec City. The capital of the state of Québec, the city is one of the oldest in North America and is awash with beautiful monuments and colonial architecture. Those keen on history will adore the fortified city walls surrounding Old Québec and the breath taking ‘La Citadelle’ within them. SkiBound resort Mont St Anne is just 55 minutes from Québec City, so there’s no excuse not to visit!

Toronto Recognised as one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world and famous for its diversity, Toronto is a hive of excitement for school groups where art, music and culture can be experienced around every corner. Known for its music and theatre scene, your group can catch a memorable show or concert on your stopover, or if sports is more up your street, catch a game of hockey – Canada’s favourite sport!
