Welcome to Junior Choice Adventure (JCA), your trusted provider of unforgettable school activity residential trips for over 30 years!

At JCA, we empower young people to push their limits and grow through exciting, educational adventures.

From multi-activity residentials to one-day adventures and sports weekends, our UK activity centres offer it all.

Proudly holding the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, we go beyond traditional activities, adding workshops like coding and AI to enhance the experience.

Every JCA trip is a perfect blend of learning, growth, and, of course, fun!

In 2024, JCA celebrates turning 30 years old!

For three decades we’ve been providing children with memorable residential experiences that shape their learning and development back at school. Our team have had a blast welcoming so many young learners to our centres and can’t wait to continue to do so for years to come.

To celebrate our landmark birthday, we’ve crunched the numbers and come up with some impressive JCA facts…

of teachers felt their learning objectives were met by their JCA adventure.

of teachers would recommend us to a colleague or friend.

of teachers rated the overall experience as good or extremely good. of teachers rated our instructors as good or extremely good.

Excellent support from all JCA activity leaders. Great variety of activities. Excellent quality food. A fun and rewarding trip for the children.

Parkfields Middle School

Since 1994, JCA has been providing schools and groups with custom-tailored residential activity breaks, helping children grow in confidence, build new skills, and enjoy exciting outdoor adventures. Our residential centres offer safe, accredited environments where learning comes alive through nature and unique activities.

With the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge and memberships with the Institute of Outdoor Learning and the British Activity Providers Association, JCA fosters a love of lifelong learning through fun, hands-on experiences. Our skilled instructors, trained in both safety and education, work closely with teachers to create enriching, holistic experiences that complement formal education and boost student development.

The adventure starts here with JCA!

Outdoor learning at a glance:

• JCA recognise the positive impact of outdoor learning and make it a reality.

• Our instructors work to inspire and help children learn and achieve.

• Our team can collaborate with teachers to better understand the needs of their group.

• All-round inclusion – opportunities for all children, no matter their circumstances

JCA’s Key Outcomes adventure

There are provisions set out by governing organisations in the development of outdoor learning, which help to shape the JCA programme at our centres. While each centre has its own specialisms, all provide the opportunity to develop in the following key areas:

Health and well-being

Social and emotional awareness

Awareness of the environment

Skills specific to physical activities

Individual attributes

Life skills

Self-motivation and desire for future learning

Future prospects

Holistic development of character

Fun!

These can be measured against several quality indicators to ensure children are provided with the best opportunities to develop during their outdoor adventure.

A residential trip can be a huge leap for some children and for group leaders the prospect of planning the trip can be equally daunting.

With 30 years of experience, JCA offers exciting, curriculum-linked adventures in a safe environment. We provide support from booking to your stay, delivering exceptional value and making the process stress-free.

of Memorable Residentials

Over the past 30 years, JCA has transformed from a small operation to a leading provider of residential adventures and outdoor activities for UK school groups. With continuous improvements in facilities and a commitment to helping young learners grow, JCA now offers a wide range of exciting, skill-building experiences.

Early Years

JCA started with traditional team-building exercises, focusing on teamwork, resilience, and personal growth. These early efforts built our reputation for safe and engaging experiences.

Growth & diversification

In 2011, a multi-million-pound renovation of Condover Hall transformed the site into a hub of fun, featuring a laser maze, high aerial trek, and a water-based activity lake. The centre now blends high-tech and classic challenges, fostering adventure, problem-solving, and teamwork. New STEM workshops, created with the School of Coding & AI, offer hands-on learning in coding and robotics for primary and secondary students.

Committing to community

JCA proudly supports local and national charities, ensuring children from all backgrounds can enjoy its activities. Partnerships with groups like National Citizen Service (NCS), Scotty’s Little Soldiers and Just4Children highlight our dedication to making a positive impact.

Far more than just a school trip, our residentials provide an outdoor learning experience that can provide lifelong memories for your pupils and be one of the best first experiences children spend away from their parents or guardians. With JCA, your school residential doesn’t have to be taken in the height of summer, in fact there are some extremely rewarding benefits of taking a JCA activity trip during autumn and spring.

Allowing your students to challenge themselves and in a residential environment can enhance their willingness to try something new and further their self-belief. Taking the trip earlier in the school year will increase your students’ self-confidence and participation back in the classroom - setting them up for the rest of the academic year or perfect for pre-exam teaching.

87% of secondary students felt more confident to try new things after a residential.

The change of environment on a residential brings a new dynamic for children to adapt to, it helps them explore options beyond their fixed ‘home’ or ‘school’ personality and gives them the opportunity to truly be themselves. This allows deeper relationships to be formed and sustained back in school, boosting cohesion and fostering a sense of belonging. The sooner the residential, the sooner children can bond with one another and the sooner teachers get to know their pupils, leading to a more trusting and respectful relationship on return to the classroom, and throughout the year.

Residentials are also perfect for smoothing students’ transition experiences, such as their first few months back in class, whether that’s with new or returning classmates.

Ignite a passion for learning in your pupils that can be taken back into school life and nurtured throughout the year. Going on an off-peak residential leads to improved student engagement in learning, which can have a long-term impact on their education or give that much-needed boost before important exams.

The residential will also give teachers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their students, how pupils interact with activities differently to how they may typically approach tasks in the classroom, how teachers can respond to them and a range of new learning opportunities to be practised back in the school environment.

Residentials have also been proven to lead to improved behaviour and attendance post-trip. Better relationships and understanding between staff and students results in better behaviour within the classroom, often leading to an increase in attendance.

72% of primary pupils said that their behaviour at school is better after a residential.

As a Party Leader aiming to take your students on an activity trip, you don’t want to place a large financial burden on the children’s families. With JCA, our residentials taken during low season are offered at a discounted price, providing schools and parents or guardians with the benefit of a greater return on investment. With cheaper prices per person compared to the peak season and the advantage of reaping all the benefits from the residential throughout the year, low season activity trips are not to be overlooked.

Data taken from Learning Away’s Winter Residentials campaign.

With your pupils in mind, Group Leaders can explore all the JCA activity options to find the perfect itinerary for your school group. This booklet offers a brief overview of our exciting activities, with more details available at jca-adventure.co.uk or through our experienced Account Managers.

Our land-based instructors will stay with your group throughout the trip, while expert water sports and specialist instructors will join you as needed. We believe our instructors are key to your adventure, helping to support, engage, and inspire your pupils, building skills and confidence every step of the way!

No worries if you can’t join us for four nights – at JCA we offer a range of trip options to suit your group. Just share your preferences, and we’ll tailor your visit!

• 2-night trips (check-in on Monday or Wednesday)

• 4-night trips include water sports

• 1 and 3-night trips (excluding mid-May to mid-July)

The staff are fantastic. One instructor this year was particularly good and went above and beyond with one of our more challenging pupils. She understood his triggers and pre-empted how he would be on each activity and planned accordingly. She was amazing and is a real credit to JCA.
