Dear Party Leader, Thank you for taking the time to read our new-look brochure, packed full of our latest offering of exceptional resorts and hotels for the 2017/18 season. Through listening to your feedback and improving our product over 40 years, we have maintained our position as the undisputed Austrian specialists. We are proud that so many of our customers return year after year and we thank you for your support. As we move towards a new ski season, we are pleased to offer our guarantee that ensures your young skiers do exactly what is required from a school ski trip – improve their skills and confidence on the snow. HTS guarantee that the ski instructor ratio to student will be no more than 1:10, whereas most other tour operators provide a ratio of 1:12. We firmly believe this will give enormous benefit to students who are learning to ski for the first time and allows students who can already ski to make quicker progress. Off the slopes, we know that organising a group in resort can be challenging so our promise of a local, German speaking rep for each group can really help with every detail of the trip. With no language barriers to overcome you can feel safe in the knowledge that you’re supported by the experts. Also to help iron out all the kinks prior to travel is our process of pre booking all evening entertainment with our UK-based team. We’ll make sure everything is arranged, so your students don’t miss out on those experiences that can open their eyes to the rich culture and incredible atmosphere of an Austrian mountain resort. Our 2018 school ski brochure is packed with some of the finest ski resorts and hotels that Austria has to offer. Our knowledgeable Austria-based team have sourced some of the highest quality accommodation options available for school groups, from top class resorts to hidden gems. Our dedicated, knowledgeable and experienced sales team are only a call away, so get in touch today and let us show you why we’re the undisputed Austrian Specialists. Sincerely,
Ken Bailey HTS Managing Director Telephone: 01273 767894 Email: ken.bailey@htstotalski.com
The Beauty of Austria High Altitude Skiing
The perception that Austria only offers low altitude skiing is a misconception. Although many of the Austrian villages are located at a height of 700m – 800m, most nursery slopes start at 1,500m above sea level with the main ski area continuing up from there. Be sure to check the height of each ski resort and you’ll find access to fantastic high level skiing with an excellent snow-sure record. You also have the assurance that Austrian resorts have a high concentration of snow-making facilities to supplement the snowfall throughout the season.
The World’s Best Glaciers
As part of the unique skiing experience, HTS groups have the option to visit some of Europe’s largest and most impressive glaciers. The Hintertux Glacier, located at the far reaches of the Zillertal valley, offers skiing year round on one of the premier glacier skiing areas in the Alps. The Stubai Glacier is located directly south of Innsbruck and is rated one of the top glacier skiing areas in the world. At a height of over 3200m, the snow throughout the winter can be outstanding whilst the length of the season is also impressive, running from late September through to early summer.
The Infrastructure
The infrastructure in our featured Austrian ski resorts is of an extremely high standard, with even the smallest villages boasting transportation links to other ski areas. This enables HTS groups to access the extensive skiing terrain on offer with ease. Austria has embraced innovation as ‘top quality’ is their utmost aim. New cutting-edge technology has improved cableways, gondolas and mountain restaurants, providing an unbeatable skiing experience for students and teachers alike. Munich Lofer Skiwelt

Why Book With HTS Total Ski?
We are confident we have the best resort and hotel options for school groups looking for skiing in Austria. With over 40 years of experience, the HTS Total Ski team continue to share a passion for skiing through a dedication to providing schools with all the local knowledge and support they need to enjoy an unforgettable ski experience in Austria.
Maximum of 1:10 Ski Instruction Ratio
HTS Total Ski understands learning an exciting new skill and developing confidence on the snow is the most important thing young groups want to gain from their school ski trip. As such, we work closely with local Austrian ski schools to provide our customers with a maximum ratio of 1:10 in their ski instruction, providing huge benefits for students and ensuring the best ratios in the UK schools market. Our relationships with ski schools have remained strong throughout the years with instructors always doing their utmost to get the most out of young skiers. This includes visits the night before to discuss conditions and optimum timings for the following day to take advantage of the best snow.
Dedicated German Speaking Resort Reps
Some companies may historically find language barriers to be an issue when skiing in Europe. HTS Total Ski ensures your dedicated resort rep speaks the local language to avoid any information being lost in translation. Your rep will be a constant presence throughout your trip and will be available to answer any queries you may have, organise any last minute plans, or help with any unexpected problems.
Free Preview Visits
Don’t just take our word for it! We’re so confident in our product we welcome Party Leaders to visit resorts prior to travelling to check their suitability, run health and safety checks, try out the ski area and visit the evening activities. These trips are available over weekends or during the week of Easter 2017.
We Will Beat Any Like-For-Like Price
Each booking is bespoke and tailored to your school group based on your students’ requirements. In the event you receive a lower price elsewhere based on the same requirements, we will beat it. Our price promise is in place to ensure value for money is always achieved without compromising on a top quality school ski trip.
Evening Entertainment Arranged Before You Travel
Take the stress out of every element of the ski trip by pre booking après ski activities before you travel. Our UK based tour coordinators can pre-arrange your evening entertainment itinerary to guarantee that your group doesn’t miss out on that all important bowling night, ice skating slot or pizza evening.

Five wonderful regions, offering 860km of piste The five large ski regions of Salzburger Sportwelt, Schladming, Gastein, Hochkönig and Grossarl are accessible by one single lift pass, offering HTS groups an enormous 860km of varied piste. The Salzburger Sportwelt lies in the centre of the Ski Amadé region and is made up of nine resorts, including; Flachau, Wagrain, St. Johann-Alpendorf, Radstadt, Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, Kleinarl, Eben and Filzmoos. Although the region is huge, towns are well linked. Radstadt is an attractive historic walled town about 2km from the lifts, and is connected to Altenmarkt. Kleinarl is also an attractive village in the heart of the ski area and provides easy access to great skiing. From Kleinarl it is possible to ski to Zauchensee and a short bus ride takes you to Wagrain where a spectacular cable car crosses the valley linking the Grafenberg to the rest of the ski area. The ski schools within the Salzburger Sportwelt ski area have an excellent reputation for all levels of skier and snowboarder; in fact Zauchensee and Flachau are World Cup ski race venues! As an added bonus, Zauchensee is close to Altenmarkt and offers snow sure doorstep skiing. The well planned lift system and links between the resorts ensure groups can maximise their skiing time and queuing is kept to a minimum. Accommodation in this region has been carefully selected to offer both unrivalled access to the slopes as well as superb facilities that– are well-suited to school groups. Investments in the lift systems have greatly improved the links between the DIE REGION DER SIEGER SALZBURGER SPORTWELT resorts, and despite the impressive statistics and commercialisation, villages such as Altenmarkt, Radstadt and Kleinarl have retained their Austrian charm and traditions.

Ski Amadé - hochkönig
Traditional, Charming, Welcoming and Uncrowded
The Hochkönig ski area forms part of the impressive Ski Amadé region, one of the largest in Austria. A network of links now enables HTS groups to ski from Mühlbach in the East to Maria Alm in the West – all on uncrowded and well-groomed slopes, which have a strong track record for holding onto their snow. For those times when nature isn’t quite so forthcoming, the resort is equipped with 85 per cent snow making capability, making Hochkönig a safe bet. Achieving consistently high marks, Mühlbach’s ski school makes the resort a particularly great choice for beginners. Yet intermediate and advanced skiers aren’t overlooked, with red runs accounting for over half of the available skiing. Wide, interconnecting pistes allow beginners to quickly gain confidence on the sunny slopes of the Arthurhaus Plateau, before moving on to join their intermediate classmates in the main ski area on the Schneeberg. The wider area is characterised by small, traditional villages and a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and Mülbach is no exception. The delightful village offers a good array of amenities, and if there’s something you can’t get hold of, the resort is only eight kilometres from the motorway and the town of Bischofshofen, where you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. When combined with easy access to the slopes, Mühlbach is an ideal choice for school ski groups. Take a ski over to the scenic village of Maria Alm, which can be found at the foot of the mighty Hochkönig mountain range. You’ll also find a collection of other traditional villages, such as Dienten, dotted around the area, overflowing with Austrian ‘Gemütlichkeit’ (friendliness). A good range of après-ski options is available to keep your group entertained after the lifts have stopped for the day. TOTAL SKI

Bad Kleinkirchheim
Home of the Franz Klammer World Cup Run Bad Kleinkirchheim (BKK), along with the interlinked village of St Oswald, offers fantastic intermediate skiing and is home to wide, tree-lined runs, modern lifts and an efficient network of links. In recent years the region has invested in snow making facilities to supplement what Mother Nature provides, and with the combination of many north facing slopes, the area offers almost 100% snow coverage. BKK is home to a caring ski school that encourages beginners on their ski lessons, and will quickly gain the confidence to move to the sunnier, wider runs of St Oswald. Whilst not the most challenging resort for advanced skiers, the Franz Klammer World Cup run is worth trying out, and the multitude of red runs throughout the resort are ideal for perfecting technique. Groups choosing BKK will be accommodated on Lake Millstatt which provides easy access to the ski area, and the nearby towns of Seeboden and Millstatt have a good range of amenities, and Spittal (a short drive away) boasts even more. These nearby towns are often a more affordable choice for evening entertainment than BKK itself.

The ski area is accessed from Anneheim, and from the middle station sweeping pistes open out across the mountain, offering a wide range of skiing for all abilities. heiligenblut
Legendary Resort on the Doorstep of Austria’s Highest Mountain
The delightful village of Heiligenblut resides at the foot of the mighty Grossglockner – Austria’s highest mountain. Featuring all of the amenities every school group needs, the resort offers covetable doorstep skiing. Grossglockner, at almost 3800m, rubs shoulders with a range of neighbouring peaks and can be viewed from the ski area. Skiers can zip between Heiligenblut’s two interlinked mountains, which are supported by 50 snow cannons making up any shortfall of snow. With the nursery slope located near to the hotel in the village centre, complete beginners feel safe and secure trying out their snowplough turns. Groups soon progress to the confidence building blue runs located on the two mountains of the Heiligenblut ski area, which are connected by a mountain tunnel. Well-groomed slopes are in abundance, and it’s the variety of red runs – stretching over 40 km – that really makes Heiligenblut a haven for intermediate skiers. The more experienced members of your group won’t find themselves short of a challenge or two, either. A wide range of uncrowded, high-altitude slopes, and an efficient lift system that minimises queuing time and maximises skiing time make Heiligenblut a great late season choice for school ski groups. Heiligenblut is a reassuringly popular choice with Austrian school groups, who come back year after year for convenient access to the slopes and the idyllic location. The village centre is home to a range of cafes and bars, and you’ll find a swimming pool within walking distance of the hotel. Situated in Austria’s Eastern Alps, the resort is within the bounds of the heart-stirring scenery of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Make time to take stock of your surroundings before descending your 20th red run. TOTAL SKI

Matrei has become a favourite destination among our groups, which is down to good value for money, great runs and doorstep skiing. Set in the heart of the Höhe Tauern National Park, Matrei stands in the shadow of Austria’s highest peak - the Grossglockner, and features a stunning panorama of 60 peaks above 3000m. The efficient Goldried gondola, with its base a short walk from the hotel, gives groups speedy access to the slopes. Arriving at the top station, the whole ski area unfolds with a great choice of open blues and reds as well as some black runs. The nursery slopes are right next to the gondola for beginners, while boarders and skiers alike can practice their freestyle in the fun park. Those who’ve got what it takes can tackle the 12-kilometre home run from the Cimaross top station. Whether you plan to visit early or late in the season, with 90 per cent snowmaking coverage, Matrei is always a great choice for mixed-ability school groups. The Montafon Valley is lined with authentic Alpine villages, each one offering a warm welcome and a convenient base from which to access the ski area. Montafon ranks among the most popular in winter sports destinations. Gentle, well-groomed blue slopes help beginners find their feet, while advanced skiers board the new lift between St. Gallenkirch and the Hochjoch ski area, which links two wide-ranging ski areas together. Our groups receive a full valley pass covering the three ski areas – Silvretta Nova, Gargellen and Golm. Ideally located for easy access to the extensive network of modern lifts, our accommodation options are well equipped for school groups. Staying in St Gallenkirch, groups have access to the Gaschurn ski area. It also has a lift, which whisks skiers from the village up into the Silvretta Nova ski area. The friendly, compact village centre of Vandans is within walking distance of the Golm ski area, while neighbouring Batholomäberg can be found on the main valley road and offers some alternative amenities. For more options, the regional centre of Bludenz is a short drive away. If you stay in Feldkirch, which is the main provincial town, you’ll have all of the essential amenities at your fingertips. Skiing in Nauders is ideal for beginners looking to progress, with nursery slopes conveniently located at village level, and progressing up to the top station of the Bergkastel. From here, your students can try out their newly acquired ski skills on a variety of blue and red runs. Bergkastel is also good for boarders and those keen on freestyle, with a snow park featuring slides, jumps and a halfpipe. Upgrade to a Gold Card for more of a challenge and a chance to tackle the more difficult slopes of Samnaun and Ischgl. You can reach the ski area via Samnaun – a little corner of Switzerland, which lies on the border with Tirol. The whole Nauders / Ischgl area is a good option for skiing well into the season – often as late as May. The village of Pfunds lies between two excellent ski areas – Nauders / Reschenpass and Ischgl / Samnaun, while Nauders, which shares a border with Italy, offers up a fantastic network of pistes suitable for a wide range of skiing abilities. If you choose to stay in pretty Pfunds, which features a historic centre, you’ll have access to a good range of shops, bars and restaurants. Located where three international borders meet, it offers easy access to the duty-free village of Samnaun, which can only be reached by road from Pfunds. oberlungau
One of Our Most Popular Destinations
Oberlungau is famous for its charming, unspoilt villages, an enviable snow record stretching well into April and also its three impressive ski areas – Katschberg, Grosseck – Speiereck and Fanningberg. These are served by a network of modern lifts and a wide range of open runs with good progression options. Replacing the chairlift in St Michael with a gondola has improved the Speiereck experience, with skiers now transported to the top station in less than ten minutes. Groups keen to spread their wings can upgrade to the Lungo pass, which covers Oberlungau and Obertauern, an especially good option for Easter groups as it gives access to much higher slopes. Great snow cover, wide-open pistes and a wide range of red runs make the Katschberg popular with intermediate skiers. Rated one of the best in the Alps, the six-kilometre A1 slope, from the top of the Katschberg to St Margarethen, is one to set your sights on. Oberlungau’s ski schools take their high teaching standards seriously, which is reflected in the consistently high ratings they receive from our groups. Beginners tend to start on the nursery slopes in the villages of St Michael or Mauterndorf, or they head for the uncrowded slopes of Fanningberg. Our St Michael accommodation offers a lively village option with a compact centre featuring shops, bars and cafés that’s a firm favourite with groups. With all the essential amenities in resort, everything you need is an easy walk from the hotel. Another option is Gmünd, a historic walled town centring on its large square, with architecture and alleyways dating back to the Middle Ages. Groups love the authentic, unspoilt atmosphere and the town’s good range of facilities. Just a few minutes from Gmünd, the peaceful villages of Rennweg and Malta offer some basic amenities. A little farther afield, you’ll find the scenic, historic settlements of Mauterndorf and Mariapfarr. Mauterndorf, dominated by an impressive fortress dating back to the Middle Ages, is often used in film sets. Many of its narrow, winding streets and brightly coloured buildings date back several centuries. TOTAL SKI

obertauern
Alpine Tradition Alongside Modern Infrastructure
With a long winter season stretching from November to May and one of the leading interlinked ski areas in the Alps, Obertauern is a firm favourite with our groups. The Obertauern ski area ripples out from the resort centre, from which you can ski both clockwise and anti-clockwise, making use of the carefully thought-out lift system and interlinking pistes. An added bonus is that with a ski pass for Obertauern you can also access the Grosseck – Speiereck ski area of Oberlungau. Great beginners’ areas are a short drive from our hotel and come with good snow cover all season long. After building up the basics, beginners can boost their confidence on wide-open pistes, which are equally popular with more experienced skiers. Expert skiers are by no means forgotten here. Those who like a challenge can test their nerve on the mogul runs of the Gamsleiten. For snowboarders, Obertauern’s snow park also comes highly recommended. Emerging as ‘one to watch’ in the 1960s, the resort of Obertauern has gone on to become one of the most popular in Austria, and is the closest Austria has to a purpose-built resort. Sitting at 1700m, it’s located at the top of the Radstädter Tauern pass road, which connects the Salzburger Sportwelt to Oberlungau. Thankfully the architects have maintained authentic Alpine features when designing the range of quality accommodation and firstclass amenities. TOTAL SKI

Even More Piste to Explore
The resort of Saalbach Hinterglemm is made up of twin villages that lie 3 kilometres apart. The resort hosted the World Cup championships in the early 1990s and continues to attract international visitors from far and wide. Saalbach Hinterglemm is a popular choice and the pedestrianised centres make the resort that little bit safer. Remaining true to their traditional Alpine roots, Saalbach and Hinterglemm are renowned for their lively après-ski scenes, offering a host of cafés, restaurants and bars to choose from. Giving access to one of Austria’s most impressive ski areas, the villages are geared up with every resort amenity you could hope for, including a strong infrastructure and lift system. It is also rumored that the resort will be linked with Zell am See in the coming years, opening up a truly vast ski area for visiting groups. You’ll find plenty of beginners’ slopes available to help novices gain confidence, including the quieter slopes of Leogang and the excellent beginners’ area. For the more advanced members of your group, more challenging red and blue runs are in no short supply, with black runs from the top of the Schattberg and Zwölfer mountains for those who really want to push the boat out. Internationally renowned snow parks will keep your freestyle enthusiasts happy. Since Winter 2016, the ski area has been extended even further, with a link over to Fieberbrunn. This has taken the skiable domain to 270 kilometres, making the area one of the largest in Austria.

The Cradle of Alpine Skiing
Known as ‘The Cradle of Alpine Skiing’, this legendary ski area enjoys high altitude and far-reaching snow making facilities, therefore offering snowsure skiing that stretches well into spring. From the 2016/17 season the area will become even more vast as the resorts of Lech and Zurs link into the mighty Arlberg region, cementing its status as the biggest in Austria. While beginners build confidence and progress from the wide blue runs of the Galzig Mountain, intermediate skiers can cruise the long, varied red runs from the Kapall and Gampen, which offer up breath-taking scenery and challenging pistes in equal measure. The advanced skiers in the group won’t be disappointed, with the chance to tackle the steep black runs and mogul fields from Mattun and Schindler Kar, while the resort’s longest run - at 10 kilometres - begins at the top of the Valluga. Freestyle fans can make their way to the dedicated park on the Rendl Mountain – a great place to spend time for those of all abilities. With its level of world renowned, you might expect St Anton to have lost its traditional charm, but that’s certainly not the case. Its village atmosphere is very much alive and kicking, with a well-deserved reputation for lively après-ski. St Anton itself delivers everything you’d want in a world-class skiing destination, from sports shops and boutiques to established après-ski bars and restaurants. The resort’s cosmopolitan atmosphere and range of entertainment really sets it apart. Wildschönau/ski juwel
The “Juwel” in Austria’s Crown
In 2013, Auffach and Inneralpbach were linked and this excellent ski area doubled its available skiable terrain, therefore giving visitors to the Ski Juwel lots more for your money. Groups are drawn back year after year by the authentic Austrian atmosphere of Wildschönau. Traditional and unpretentious, all of the villages in the valley offer a genuinely warm welcome to their guests. Beginners tend to find their ski legs on the convenient village-level nursery slopes of Markbachjoch in Niederau, or the fantastic beginners’ area by the middle station in Auffach. However it won’t be long before your group is raring to go on the gentle, sweeping blue and red runs from the top of the gondola in Niederau. For those with a bit more experience on skis or snowboards, a wide range of red runs can be found in Auffach, providing the ideal playground for intermediates complete with a Snowpark in Schatzberg. You can access this area from the top station of the gondola. From here, you can also begin your journey to Inneralpbach, following a red run down to the middle station. For decades, British skiers have been coming back to idyllic Oberau, which nestles in the heart of the valley. While Oberau is the largest village, you’ll find Auffach offers more of a challenge on the piste as well as the link to Inneralpbach. The Wildschönau valley and Wörgl (a short drive away) have a range of good facilities on and off the piste, while friendly and welcoming Niederau is another long-established favourite with British skiers.

wurzeralm/hinterstoder
World Cup Ski Destination and Hidden Gem for UK Skiers
A popular skiing destination since the beginning of the 20th century, Wurzeralm Hinterstoder continues to hold onto its excellent snow record and now plays host to World Cup ski races. There’s even a new World Cup run on the Hinterstoder, which is named after the downhill world champion, Hannes Trinkl, while Wurzeralm lays claim to the fastest funicular railway in Europe. HTS groups stay in Spital am Pyhrn, conveniently located between the Wurzeralm and Hinterstoder. Set in the heart of Upper Austria, the small town is defined by its beautiful cathedral and encircled by mountains. Just minutes from the motorway, Spital offers a range of good amenities for groups and excellent transport links to both the Wurzeralm and Hinterstoder ski areas. A popular destination with school groups from Austria, Wurzeralm Hinterstoder is still a hidden gem to the British market. Thanks to super-efficient lift systems, our groups are always amazed by the minimal queues here. Most groups start on the Wurzeralm, giving beginners a gentle launch pad from which to progress to a range of perfectly pisted, tree-lined blues and reds. Those with a bit more experience and confidence will enjoy the steeper skiing and a bit more of a challenge on the Hinterstoder, while the snow park at Fun & Action Hill (300 metres long) is a paradise for those keen on freestyle. Your lift pass gives you access to the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier, offering guaranteed good conditions from November to June. Groups of beginners tend to spend their first few days finding their feet in the Zell am See ski area, which they can access via the Areitbahn Gondola. Kaprun’s gentle nursery slopes help beginners improve their technique before moving on to the higher slopes of the Maiskogel or the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier – a great snow-sure Easter skiing destination, which offers spectacular views over Höhe Tauern National Park. Wide-open runs around the back of the Schmittenhöhe let novices build confidence, while more experienced skiers venture over to the Sonnkogel, which is linked to the Schmittenhöhe. There are plans for the resort to be linked with Saalbach Hinterglemm in the coming years, opening up a vast ski area for visiting groups to explore. You’ll also find a wide range of leisure facilities to keep your group occupied around the clock. The beautiful lakeside location of Zell am See features a pedestrianised centre with a variety of great après-ski bars, cafés, shops and restaurants. AT A GLANCE • Access to three vast interlinked ski areas • 661 kilometres of piste making up some of the best skiing in the Alps • 88 per cent of runs suitable for intermediates • A lift pass that also includes access to the Hintertux Glacier
The expansive Ziller Valley is made up of three extensive ski areas plus the Hintertux Glacier, providing plenty of snow-sure skiing for all abilities throughout the winter season. You’ll find our group-friendly accommodation at the northern end of the valley, which puts you in a convenient spot for entertaining your group long after the lifts have shut. Thanks to the high altitudes of its three ski areas and excellent snowmaking technology, the Ziller Valley has an outstanding snow record. Huge investment in lift systems and links between the previously separate resorts has drawn in visitors from a wide range of countries. Whether they’re happiest on skis or snowboards, from beginners to experts, your group will love the Ziller Valley’s wellgroomed pistes and carefully thought out links as well as the rising number of snow parks.

Both Hart and Fügen are villages that lie just off the main valley road. For an ideal way to tire out your group before lights out, head to the vast, indoor swimming complex at Fügen. Many groups also like to venture further afield to Innsbruck for an evening in the Tirolean capital. After a short coach journey you’ll find yourselves amongst plenty of après-ski attractions. Breitenbach may be outside the main Ziller Valley, but you still have good access to the ski area via the motorway. The scenic, historic centre of Kramsach also offers excellent access to the ski area as well as a range of shops, restaurants and cafés, while the winding, narrow streets of picturesque Brixlegg provide lots of atmosphere.
