HC Tournaments at Condover Hall
HC Tournaments at Condover Hall Working in conjunction with our expert netball event managers, Dave Hartwell and Joanne Coker of HC Tournaments have over 35 years’ collective experience in playing, coaching and umpiring netball. The enthusiastic HC Tournaments team are all qualified and inspirational in providing those of all ages with the opportunity to further interest and develop talent within netball. Fully DBS checked, the team has a passion for delivering a quality netballing experience to all. In the interest of safety and to support the smooth running of the netball weekend, teams are invited to meet with the HC Tournaments’ team on the evening of arrival to be guided through the tournament programme. This also provides an opportunity to ask any last minute questions and to gain a clear idea of the running order of fixtures. In turn, this will help teams understand when they have an opportunity to enjoy the selection of on-site adventure activities at Condover Hall.

Dedicated to promoting netball to a wider audience, JCA Netball has not only developed a strong link with one of the biggest providers of netball tournaments in HC Tournaments but has also welcomed England Netball stars to Condover Hall to help further inspire young netballers and scout new talent. Big names including Team Bath and England Netball’s Stacey Jayne Francis and Rachel Shaw have both provided added inspiration to those attending our big netball weekends in the past.
Testimonials We were really impressed with the whole weekend! It was a lovely weekend, great organisation, with lots to do. The sunshine helped, but without it the students still would have enjoyed it.
- Our Lady & St Chat Catholic School
A fantastic time away which the girls absolutely loved! They were already asking to come back next year before the end of the first day. The netball was well organised and the umpires were great, helping teams out where and when necessary. The organisation of both the netball and the adventure activities was first rate and the instructors all friendly, helpful and full of energy and the food plentiful. We would highly recommend Condover Hall.

Meet Emily Forbes, your national netball account manager
I started playing netball at Junior School, and then continued to play it throughout my School, College and University years. I found it was a great way to keep fit, socialise and have fun. Throughout my time playing netball I was selected to play for my district, county and even have trials for the England Squad. This was a great experience because I had the opportunity to be coached by professional netball players. I am currently the captain of my own netball team in Portsmouth, and we have just recently been promoted 3 seasons running. Having always been on the court playing goal defence or goal attack, it is great to be involved behind the scenes as the JCA National Account Manager. I am able to observe the netball girls play, see the improvements in their technique over the weekend, and watch them have fun. By having England Netball affiliated umpires at our Netball weekends, it allows the coaches to focus solely on developing and motivating their player. This gives the coaches a great opportunity to encourage and train each individual player to help increase their maximum potential on the netball court. With netball changing, participation growing and teams developing, I believe a coach’s role should never be underestimated. I think that
coaching during training sessions as well as during matches is fundamental when wanting to progress player’s individual and team skills. It is very important for a netball team to work well together as a team; this is why the JCA netball weekends really encourage teams to work together off the court as well as on the court. The activities set up alongside the netball tournament (e.g. High ropes, body zorbing) are fantastic for team building and team moral. They also provided the netball girls and teachers with lots of laughs and enjoyment. I am looking forward to attending the JCA Netball Tournaments in 2016 and meeting lots of you there. Our sixth season is looking full of great netball competition!!

Activities at Condover Hall Our wide range of on-site activities have been designed with your group in mind with each challenge fitting into the National Curriculum and differentiated depending on your target age group. Encompassing a number of different subject areas, including the Outdoor and Adventurous activities strand of PE and buggy building to support design and technology goals, our activities also look to develop each individual as highlighted by the Education Programme of Study. The JCA portfolio of activities includes over 50 different options, each with a range of learning outcomes, educational goals and opportunities for personal development. Everyone will have their own favourite activity and, with everything from abseiling to tunnelling and archery to the zip wire to
choose from, your group are likely to find more than one they will want to do again. All activities are fully supervised by JCA staff so you can be assured they are in safe hands. Here is just a selection of activities on offer‌
New Activities for 2015 Always seeking to improve the JCA experience at Condover Hall, we have implemented a number of new features for 2015. We are pleased to announce the unveiling of our new high ropes course, bouldering wall, plus activity and nature lakes. Supplementing our existing high ropes course, the new high aerial trek is designed to encourage groups to work together to overcome various challenges in a safe, controlled environment. This will supplement the existing high ropes course and enable more children to experience a series of fresh challenges, including the power fan descender and high aerial trek. 14 3068 JCA Netball Brochure AW.indd 14
We have recently installed a new on-site lake development. Covering the size of a football pitch the activity lake brings all your favourite watersports a stone’s throw away from the Mansion House. Although not automatically included in your price, watersports upgrade is available. Please refer to page 25 for full details.

Body Zorbing Body zorbing can be a team or individual based activity. Participants take part in sumo, football and other tumbling activities. Each participant wears their own Body Zorb and can tumble and bump into each other free from feeling any impact.
Climbing Taking place on our purpose-built towers, climbing develops trust and self-confidence while challenging your group to conquer any personal fears. All are encouraged to achieve the best they can with support from the whole group and can be lowered safely to the ground via belay rope upon request.
High Ropes Our high ropes challenge course is an exciting purpose built facility and includes some of the classic elements. From Abseiling to Climbing, the Leap of Faith to Low Ropes, Multi Vines to the Giant See-Saw, each participant will overcome personal trials, build confidence and develop co-ordination skills.

Fencing Requiring concentration, discipline and agility, students will have the chance to learn the essential skills needed in the art of foil fencing. After learning about the foil, grip, safety aspects and basics including the ‘On Guard’ stance, footwork and lunge, students will have the chance to compete in pairs with short bouts and an inter-group competition.
Laser Maze Release your inner spy and be 007 for the day! Negotiate your way through the laser beams without setting off the alarms to reach the Control Box and disarm before ‘detonation’. The laser maze requires participants to listen, understand and respond appropriately as the lights turn off, the music starts and fog fills the room.
Tunnelling Room Our purpose built indoor ‘tunnel system’ is an exciting and challenging activity. In addition to excitement, the activities main aim is to develop trust, self-confidence, physical exercise and group dynamics through teamwork. Students explore darkness, challenge their inner strength, search for clues and work as a team.
16 3068 JCA Netball Brochure AW.indd 16

Archery Students can unleash their inner Robin Hood and try their hand at archery. The rudiments of this very popular activity are quickly leaned by using recurve takedown bows and 1.3m targets. Selfdiscipline, concentration and co-ordination are just a few of the skills required to conquer the art of archery.
Campfire One for the X Factor fans! An evening camp fire is a great chance for participants to showcase their own talents, either as an individual or within a group. Camp Fires are a great evening activity to unwind after a challenging day and for your group to come together and enjoy some light hearted fun before bed.

Accommodation at Condover The accommodation at Condover Hall has been designed and furnished based on feedback from our existing schools and groups, to ensure that all our rooms are comfortable and the facilities are practical. The safety and security of our customers is a primary focus for all of our team and groups are accommodated in one of our purpose built blocks set within the grounds. A member of the JCA team is on call 24 hours a day, with senior staff on duty until 10.30pm and porters patrolling the grounds throughout the night from 10:30pm until 7:30am. Centre doors are secured in the evening, but can be opened from the inside in case of an emergency and security barriers guard the entrance to the site.
Spacious multi-bedded dormitories are available for students with bunk beds and complimentary bedding. Most dormitories offer en-suite facilities and depending upon the size of the group it may be possible to take over one or more of the accommodation buildings entirely. The residential buildings are set within a secluded and secure area of the grounds, yet still within easy reach of the main centre.

I have been on many residential trips over the years and I can honestly say that our trip to Condover Hall was the best visit ever. The children had fun from the moment they arrived to the second they left. The accommodation was extremely comfortable (I’ve never had a TV in my room before!), the food was great and the overall organisation was perfect.

Learning Outside the Classroom Every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability and circumstances. Young people of all ages benefit from real life ‘hands-on’ experiences; when they can see, hear, touch and explore the world around them and have opportunities to experience challenges and adventure.
and the wider world through a range of experiences to help motivate young people, reduce poor behaviour and truancy, while helping schools to raise attainment and meet Every Student Matters outcomes.
Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) aims to get young people to realise the relationship between school experiences There is an increasing body of evidence gathered by the LOtC and it’s members which clearly demonstrates the benefits for young people’s learning and personal development outside the classroom. In summary, when young people learn outside the classroom, they: •
are exposed to new experiences
•
•
learn in different ways related to their learning styles
improve communication skills with peers and adults
•
are motivated to learn more and feel positive about learning
are healthier, and their sense of wellbeing increases
•
appreciate the links between formal and informal learning.
• •
become self-confident, developing selfesteem and self-awareness
•
work together, fostering decisionmaking and teamwork
