After months of feeling the anticipation build among your group, the excitement of embarking on the long-awaited ski trip is a special feeling.

Ski lessons, evening entertainment, a new environment to explore – these all stack together to make any trip extra special. But one thing that may not instantly come to mind is your dedicated ski rep waiting for you on arrival.

A SkiBound rep is an important factor in keeping your trip running smoothly. They’ll be the first port of call from the moment you arrive

until the day you head home. They are there to make sure that every element of your trip runs well, so you can focus on the safety and wellbeing of your students. Our ski reps will work in partnership with you to make sure your students are entertained, safe and go home happy. You can rest assured that their level of commitment and enthusiasm for your group will make your trip a truly memorable experience.

Our ski reps are there to oversee your evening entertainment from start to finish. From organising things to do in resort to setting up excursions that explore the surrounding area. There is never a lack of fun and exciting options to entertain your students once their ski lessons have finished.

When you arrive at your chosen resort, it’s normal to have lots of questions, and our knowledgeable ski reps are there to help. They’ll be prepped with essential local information, such as where the closest supermarket or cashpoint is. They’ll make sure that you get your bearings quickly, so you feel at home during your stay.

6

What sets our reps apart is their dedication and care to guests. Our reps give that personal touch to your trip. Whether it’s arranging those important added-extras like organising a birthday cake, tracking down your favourite film for movie night, or recommending the best souvenir shop. Nothing is too much trouble to help you get the most out of your trip.

Where possible, we place local language-speaking reps in our resorts. By doing this they can easily build relationships with restaurants, evening entertainment providers, ski schools etc. so that you and your students have the best possible experience during your time away.

Shower running cold? Want a few extra covers to keep you warm? Have a dietary request? There are no silly requests for our reps. They’re your first point of contact for all accommodation needs, and will make sure you always feel looked after during your stay.

All of our reps travel out before your group, so everything will have been double-checked before you arrive, such as rooms, ski fit, ski school timings, and any last-minute changes to your itinerary. No stone is left unturned when it comes to making sure that everything is in place for your enjoyment.

When it comes to your daily lessons, our reps will reconfirm timings and logistics prior to your arrival. They’ll liaise with ski schools to make sure everyone knows the plan, so that your group can hit the slopes quickly. When it comes to any coach pick-ups and dropoffs, our ski reps know the drill, and will make sure you know where to go and when to be there.

Ski reps have a good understanding of the level of risk and health and safety involved in moving children around a ski resort. They’re all winter sports enthusiasts and as such, understand that accidents can happen. Party Leaders will liaise with their insurance provider to ensure any incidents are handled appropriately.

Many secondary school or college-aged students will consider travelling or a gap year after studying. Ski reps have a fantastic insight into what it’s like to work abroad. They’re more than happy to chat with students about their experiences and give some great recommendations.

Our ski reps know all there is to know about their resort and about taking care of school groups. Our reps are right there to help. Their goal is to ensure the smooth running of the trip, to allow party leaders, support staff and students to concentrate on having an amazing time.

why ski austria? Austria is the original iconic ski destination. Traditional authenticity now goes hand-in-hand with large investments into resort infrastructure, connections and snowmaking technology. SkiBound has been there from the start, and our Austrian team has built up over 30 years of solid relationships with local suppliers. Our UK staff are passionate about skiing, and most will have worked in resorts before becoming advisers. They love what they do, and love sharing their top tips with schools!

SkiBound will get you the most out of this iconic destination iconic terrain > the Austrian Alps are blessed with a long, snow-sure ski season and a wide range of terrain types.

iconic terrain > Austria offers a variety of ski resorts, from the traditional charm of Kitzbühel to bustling, modern Zell am See and Obertauern.

iconic teaching > local ski schools are renowned worldwide, and private group tuition means that all

levels will master the slopes at their own pace.

iconic après-ski > there’s an abundance of traditional evening entertainment ideal for schools, including bowling, curling, ice skating and horse-drawn carriage rides.

iconic future > in recent years there’s been huge investment in resorts… modern infrastructure is married to authentic charm to give your students the best of both worlds!

skibound.co.uk 39

Brains and Beauty The savvy tech and alpine charm of Austria The all-round destination for over 40 years Austria has led the way in ski resorts for many years, with fans of the slalom and downhill circuit flocking to its pristine pistes year after year and producing some of the world’s best skiers. Resorts are combining the latest in technology with the best aspects of a traditional alpine experience, giving young groups an authentic but awe-inspiring ski trip, as it has done since the first school trips in the 1960s.

Technology on the slopes Popular across the World Cup circuit, Austrian ski resorts are supported by some of the most modern ski lift systems in Europe providing access to a variety of skiable terrain and top glacier ski areas, perfect for all levels. When it comes to technology and infrastructure, Austria’s lift systems surpass those found in other countries. With constant improvements year-on-year, Austrian resorts always strive to provide a smooth and comfortable transition to the piste. The advanced technology our chosen Austrian resorts offer makes it easy and safe for students to get around the mountain. The size of a ski area is one of the main factors for consideration when planning a school ski trip. By building partnerships with neighbouring towns, Austrian resorts have succeeded in building links to provide skiers with a greater variety of terrain. Across these linked resorts, Austria is able to offer skiing at a high altitude despite some villages being lower in the valley. Linked resorts allow skiers to access kilometre upon kilometre of piste by lift instead of road. Austria has led the pack in this regard, developing bigger, more technologically advanced super resorts such as the vast Arlberg region, with an impressive 305km of piste.

40 skibound.co.uk

The alpine experience Beautifully conversely to the cutting-edge technology of the infrastructure, Austrian resorts stay true to their history and provide visitors with a real alpine experience. Think chocolate-box beauty and welcoming locals you’ve got many of our chosen locations across Austria. Hotels provide school groups with a comfortable stay, mixing modern day necessities with rustic, natural interiors that bring to mind traditional wooden chalets often synonymous with skiing. The local cuisine offered in many locations is perfect after a long day on the slopes, why not try a hearty käsespätzle, Alpine macaroni (egg pasta covered with melted Alpine cheese) or enjoy a gröstl, a farmers’ dish traditionally made out of meat, vegetables and potatoes? Add together modern yet rustic hotels in postcard-worthy locations, friendly staff and efficient service and you have the authentic mountain experience of Austria.

Canada is becoming more and more popular as a ski destination for school groups, and with good reason. The famous Canadian hospitality attracts guests all year round and is up there among the best in the world! When it comes to skiing, students and teachers will enjoy fantastic snow conditions across a variety of terrain. Canadian resorts also offer extensive snow-making facilities, and off the slopes groups are treated to outstanding accommodation and unique après-ski options. A ski trip across the pond also offers something truly exciting – a city stopover! SkiBound’s chosen resorts give you the opportunity to visit some of Canada’s most vibrant cities and take your ski trip to the next level.

Calgary

Also known as ‘Cowtown’ or ‘Stampede city’, Calgary is a thriving modern city, despite its rodeo reputation! Located in the state of Alberta, close to SkiBound resorts Banff and Jasper, it was the first Canadian host of the winter Olympics in 1988. Considered as one of the best places to live in Canada, Calgary will not disappoint with a wide range of attractions from museums, art, sports, shopping, festivals, and idyllic parks.

Vancouver

Put simply, it’s impossible not to love Vancouver. The city is well known for its urban centre surrounded by nature, as well as its museums, shopping malls and impressive skyline. See your students explore flora and fauna in beautiful Stanley Park, (best discovered by bike), take the cable car up to Grouse Mountain to catch a glimpse of some bears, or take a boat trip to watch whales in their natural habitat. Vancouver is within reach of SkiBound resort Big White.

Montréal

Montréal is located in the Frenchspeaking region of Québec and boasts a unique culture and beauty that draws influence from French and English traditions. Many music and arts festivals take place here, and Montréal holds the nickname ‘city of a hundred steeples’ due to its numerous stunning churches. The city spreads out from a central island and teems with metropolitan vibes – well worth a visit to put those language skills into practice! Groups travelling to Tremblant are best placed to stopover in Montréal.

Toronto

Recognised as one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world and famous for its diversity, Toronto is a hive of excitement for school groups, with art, music and culture on every corner. Known for its music and theatre scene, your group can enjoy a memorable show or concert, or if sports are more up your street, catch a game of hockey – Canada’s favourite sport. You can even combine your ski trip with a visit to the worldfamous Niagara Falls!

edmonton

Edmonton is a great option for a stopover during your ski trip. It’s got plenty to see and do, vibrant scenery and offers the most sunny days of anywhere in Canada! One of the most exciting draws of the city will certainly be West Edmonton Mall. North America’s largest shopping centre, boasting 800 shops, a waterpark, ice hockey stadium, cinema, hotels and even the world’s largest indoor rollercoaster! The city is also home to many others attractions that will capture the attention of students. Take a walk through River Valley Parks or Muttart Conservatory, ride the High Level Bridge streetcar, and slightly further out of town, Elk Island National Park is home to bison, elk, beavers and birds.
