Learning Outside of the Classroom It has been well documented that every young person should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development – whatever their age, ability or circumstances. Young people of all ages benefit from real life ‘hands-on’ experiences; when they can see, hear, touch and explore the world around them, and have opportunities to experience challenges and adventure. The classroom environment doesn’t always provide young people with enough of these opportunities. Learning Outside the Classroom aims to get students out and about. An educational tour experience helps motivate students, reducing poor behaviour and truancy, while helping schools to raise attainment and meet Every Child Matters outcomes. Travelbound is an accredited Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge holder and our educational tours promote personal, social and health education by: • Allowing young people to face new challenges and overcome fears • Developing effective communication skills • Adapting to new situations and environments • Solving problems and taking responsibility • Encouraging self-discipline and self-control • Increasing self-esteem and confidence • Promoting effective team work • Gaining independence For more information, please visit: www.lotc.org.uk 6

We will be happy to provide any promotional material to ensure that you reach the desired party size. - Confirm your booking Contact us within 3 weeks of making the provisional booking and send us the completed booking form, along with the relevant deposit amount. At this stage, you will be introduced to your dedicated tour coordinator who has specialised knowledge on your chosen destination. Educational Enrichment Learning outside the classroom has been identified as a way to excite young people and deepen their understanding of classroom subjects.
Creative Thinking – For each destination, we can suggest ways in which your group can add CAS hours related to creativity.
“Students’ learning becomes real; the experience becomes meaningful and more ingrained. They are able to be part of the deeper learning experience. There are no walls, no bells, they can use all their senses. I know that the trips I have been lucky enough to organise will be the experiences they take with them after their five years at secondary school. I’m proud to have been a part of that”. Kieron Felton, Worldwide Party Leader
Reflective Learning – A visit to Auschwitz is a prime example of reflective learning. The education centre reflects on the dangers and consequences of xenophobia and anti-Semitism.
Our tours have been structured with this in mind and are designed to help you link your tour to key concepts as well as the curriculum your school is covering. We support you in developing students’ personal learning and thinking skills as outlined below: Independent Enquiry – In several towns and within the smaller cities, Travelbound’s Young Reporter project and town trails are possible. 8
Team Work – You will see several examples running through our programme where team work is essential to the task in hand, such as on-site team building activities at our Château du Molay. Self-Management – Students learn independence on any school trip by being away from family, managing their own money and property and developing relationships with their peers. Key to any successful tour is the respect a student shows for the cultures and places they are visiting. Effective Participation – Running through our programme are many examples of educational workshops and classes such as acting, cookery, language and traditional dance.

Modern Foreign Languages
History, Battlefields & Classics
Languages are part of the cultural richness of our society and the world in which we live and work. Using a foreign language in real situations will boost students’ skills and confidence enormously, whilst listening to the locals helps to improve students’ pronunciation and intonation. The ability to understand and communicate in another language is a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure, highlighting the importance of MFL school trips.
Take your history lessons to another level with one of our inspiring history or classics tours. A history trip with Travelbound will help students develop their own identities through an understanding of history at personal, local, national and international levels. It will help them to ask and answer questions of the present by engaging with the past and encourage mutual understanding of the historic origins of our ethnic and cultural diversity.
Geography
ICT
The environments visited on our tours offer a vivid and dramatic contrast to the everyday: the diversity of the world’s great cities, cultures and natural landscapes are brought into sharp focus. Students conditioned to the Middle Eastern environment will experience the variety of climates that occur in other parts of the world. From the chill of the glaciers of Iceland to the diverse climate of China, all the students’ senses will be stimulated.
Our variety of computing and IT trips allow students the chance to increase and broaden their knowledge of how computing is used in everyday life, whilst giving them an insight into the future of technology.
