Flowaa All Colored Drawings Craft In all of the Colored Drawings multiple tools were needed: my hand, a MAC Computer, a mouse, Illustrator, the paint brush, swatches, a drawing tablet, its pen, layers, and the photograph I was attempting to draw. All of the Colored Drawings were completed by drawing multiple separate lines of different colors using Illustrator on a Mac Computer that was connected to the drawing tablet. By moving the drawing tablet’s pen using my hand, I was able to control the paint brush tool on Illustrator to create these separate lines. Eventually, after creating multiple lines, these lines began to form the shape of the object I was creating. I made sure to choose the appropriate value of the hue I was using in the appropriate location on the drawing. I went over the same location in a drawing multiple times with different values and sometimes even different hues to properly give off where the light was hitting and where shadows were cast. Sometimes this meant creating layers to go above or beneath the previous lines in attempt to create the value I wanted without making the colors seem broken apart, and instead make the difference more gradual. By the end of every drawing I had at least 5 layers. Sometimes I would create a different layer for every part of the drawing. For example, in the Complementary Colors Drawing, there were multiple layers for the background, multiple layers for the chair, and multiple layers for the floor. In the Warm Colors Drawing I created multiple layers for the mountain, multiple layers for the water, multiple layers for the sunset, and multiple layers for the sky. For the Monochromatic Drawing, I created multiple layers for the center of the flower, multiple layers for the different petals, and multiple layers for the background.
4 Hands Up
My eyes are first drawn to the top left corner of the drawing, then they move out along the petals, finally landing onto the background. I believe that my eyes are first drawn to the top left part of the drawing because It is the darkest and most dense part of the drawing. Furthermore, this is not a full flower in the drawing, and the top left corner of my drawing would have been the center or the flower. My eyes then move out to petals of the flower, this is the part the with most diversity in value. There are lights and darks. Sometimes changing gradually, and other times changing immediately. Finally as my eyes move alone the petals, they are led to the background. This is the last for my eyes to land on because it is the most basic, the lightest, and the least interesting. I purposely made the background this way because it is the background, it was never meant to be the focus of attention. However, I did not intend for the petals to come second to the core of the flower; that occurred on its own by chance.
Monochromatic Concept All I was trying to say with this drawing is Yellow Flower. I was trying to make the viewers feel that they were looking at a Yellow Flower that was made up of different values of the yellow hue. This drawing is meant to symbolize a Yellow Flower.
Betta Flowaa Craft The previous version of this drawing was opened in Illustrator and edits were made using the eraser and the brush tool.
Composition One of the most important edits made to this drawing was an attempt to attract the eyes of the viewer to different parts of the drawing. I attempted to change the value of the center of the flower at the top left of the drawing to make it lighter and more attractive. I also made sure to resize the darker petals and make the lighter so that they are less attractive to the eyes and so that the viewers’ eyes do not look at those insignificant petals for too long. The final change I made was to add texture to the background of the drawing. This was an attempt to allow the viewers’ eyes to linger on the background for a bit longer than before but still not so much that it takes away from the main focus of the drawing.
Concept All I was trying to say with this drawing is Yellow Flower. I was trying to make the viewers feel that they were looking at a Yellow Flower that was made up of different values of the yellow hue. This drawing is meant to symbolize a Yellow Flower.
Hands Up 7
The Sun Will Come Up Tomorrow Composition My eyes are first drawn to the center of the drawing where the sunset is, then they move down towards the water, and finally the move over towards the mountain side. I believe that my eyes are first drawn to the center of the drawing because it is the brightest part of a dark drawing. It has the highest density as well as the greatest contrast. My eyes then move down towards the water because it is the second brightest part of the drawing, although it is still dark. It is the second most dense part of the drawing. Finally my eyes move over to the darkest part of the picture. Even though the dark mountain side takes up a great amount of the picture and it moves in the middle of the picture between the sunset and the water, it is too dark to attract my eyes immediately. I purposely made the sunset the brightest part of the drawing, because that’s the way the photograph I was drawing from was laid out. As for its density, I felt as though that was necessary for the craft of the drawing, in attempt to make the change between the values of the sunset more gradual. The mountain side was drawn to be the darkest part of the picture because that is how the photograph I was drawing from was laid out.
Concept All I was trying to say with this drawing is Sunset. I was trying to make the viewers feel that they were looking at a sun setting over a body of water with a mountain on the side cutting its way through the horizon that was made up of different hues of warm colors. This drawing is meant to symbolize a sunset over a body of water.
8 Hands Up
The Sun Hath Come Up Craft This drawing was created using the previous version of it. The previous version of it was opened in Illustrator. There I went to the different layers and selected different paths that I wanted to alter the hue of. While the paths were selected I went to Edit, then to Edit Colors. I then selected Recolor Artwork. There I was able to alter every hue to a different hue, value, and saturation.
Composition My eyes are first drawn to the center of the drawing where the sun is. They then move up across the sky then immediately down to the water. Finally they land on the mountain side. It’s not surprising to see my eyes go straight towards the big bright yellow sun in the midst of all the blue. My eyes then go up following the movement of the rays of the sun. The sky is also the second most saturated part of the drawing, after the sun. My eyes then go down to the water because it has a lot of detail and is very dense. I believe my eyes go to the mountain last because it is the least saturated and the least interesting.
Concept When I look at this drawing, unlike the previous version of it where it seemed as though the sun is setting, this time I feel as though the sun is rising over the arctic circle. I want the viewers to feel relief when they see this image. Because the sun rarely comes out in the arctic circle, now that it is finally up, more life can finally take place.
Hands Up 11
Take A Seat Composition
My eyes are first drawn to the center of the drawing where the chair is, then they move back towards the purple wall, and finally they move down to the floor. I believe that my eyes are first drawn to the center of the drawing because it is the brightest part of the drawing. The drawing is overwhelmingly purple and the yellow chair pops out in the middle. My eyes then move back towards the wall because it is the part of the drawing that has the greatest density and pattern. It is also the largest part of the drawing. Also, the way the purple hue changes in value from one end of the drawing to the other is attractive to the eye. Finally my eyes move over to the floor in the drawing. This seems to be, and is, the least important part of the drawing. Other than the small shadow on it, the floor is very basic, lacking in texture, pattern, and density. I made the chair standout in the drawing because the photograph I was looking at had done the same. My wall had the most texture and pattern because it was the only way I knew how to make the transition from a dark shade of purple to a light tint of purple. I made the floor basic with no texture or pattern because I wanted the viewers to pay least attention to it.
Concept
All I was trying to say with this drawing is Chair. I was trying to make the viewers feel that they were looking at a Chair sitting in a room with purple walls. This drawing is meant to symbolize a Chair in a room with purple walls.

The Syrian Revolution
has been undermined. It is thought of as a civil war happening somewhere across the world in a far away place that has no affect on myself, my friends and family; and thus, it, along with its many casualties, are swept under the rug and left there to pile up. The revolution has been going on for much longer than anyone could have anticipated in response to a situation that has been going on for much longer than anyone could be ‘okay’ with. Casualties of the Syrian Revolution is an infographic that was created to shed some light on the heartbreaking outcome of
“what happens when people stand up for their rights and ask for their freedom.”
14 Hands Up
This entire info graphic was done by complying the different images individually traced. Rectangles and fonts were then added onto the image. The tracing method has already been explained in detail in the previous post. As for the rectangular shapes, those were added using the rectangular shape tool on the tool bar. By simply clicking and dragging the mouse across the screen rectangular boxes were formed. As for the different fonts used. By visiting www.dafonts.com I was able to browse through their different selections of fonts and download the ones that appealed the most to me. After installing them onto my device, I then simply used the Type tool in Adobe Illustrator and selected the font that I wanted.
Composition
Upon looking at this image from a distance, the first thing I find myself looking at is the young man that has been arrested then to the old women screaming. Although my eyes slightly trail off to look at the numbers, they do not stay there long and they go towards the pictures instead. I think this is because the color of skin on these images contrasts very well with the background, but more importantly, as oppose to reading the numbers or the words, the viewer can turn to the pictures that are screaming a story instead. After the two images on the left I find the two images on the right competeing with the numbers for my attention. My eyes keep going back and forth wanting to look at both sides but incapable of deciding where it wants to linger. This may be because although the meaning behind the images is strong, the colors are not as contrasting with the background and the rest of the info graphic, thus causing the image not to stand out as much. Now my eyes fully turn to the numbers, they glance up at the white script font to find meaning behind the numbers but then turn their full attention to the statistics. Now that my eyes have finally come across all important parts of the info graphic, they can turn to the words in order of their size and thus their importance.
Composition The first thing I find my eyes going towards is the bright but empty face of the boy portrayed in the image. When I do not find any of the information I was expecting; eyes, nose, mouth, features, expressions, emotions, etc, I find my eyes going down to the cultural scarf around his neck. This is not only the brightest part of the image, but it is also the most detailed and the most interesting. Through analyzing the scarf, my eyes notice the black shirt behind it and then move on to following the male’s arms and recognizing his stature.
Concept This is an image of a young man with his arms up in a surrendering position. The scarf around his neck shows that he is Arab. This image was drawn to portray the statistic of the number of arrests made throughout the time of the Syrian Revolution. This drawing was left faceless because I was incapable of fully portraying the emotions I intended for the viewer to feel. Instead, by leaving the face blank the viewer can put that expression in themselves after viewing the context of the info graphic.
HANDS UP
Lord, have mercy. Concept This is an image of a women with her arms up on her head in a position of distress and heartbreak. The scarf on her head shows that she is Muslim and her simple dress is similar to the casual dresses worn in the cities on the outskirts of Arab countries. This image is a drawing of an original picture of a women in a refugee camp with her young child near by. The photograph was taken in a moment of distress. I was incapable of portraying that amount of emotion with my amount of skills, thus I left her face blank allowing the viewer to impose those emotions onto her face with the help of her body language as well as the context she is in in the info graphic.
Composition The first thing I find my eyes going towards in the image is the bright but empty face of the women portrayed in the image. When I do not find any of the information I was expecting; eyes, nose, mouth, features, expressions, emotions, etc, I find my eyes going out to the scarf surrounding her face then onto her hands that have been placed on her head in a motion of distress. From there my eyes travel down her arms in attempt to analyze her dress.
As they stand there and watch. Composition The first thing my eyes go towards in this image is face of the child. Immediately I become aware of the bandage against her eye and the excessive amount of blood dripping down her face. My eyes follow the direction of the blood leading down to the body of the child. Afterwards go back up to notice the hands and body of the older individual in the photo.
Concept This is an image of a young child that has been injured. This image was drawn to portray the statistic of the number of permanent disabilities as a result of the Syrian Revolution. In the original photograph this drawing was made from the young child in the photo had an expression hard to explain with words. It was a mix of lack of surprise, accusing, hurt, and unmoved by the events occurring around her as she stared right into the camera. It was beyond impossible for me to portray such emotion and thus I was forced to leave her face blank. However, I kept her eyes in the drawing because I felt that they were important not only in showing the injury in the image, but more importantly, because I felt that I could still slightly show how unmoved she is by the events and that the viewer would feel her accusing them for their lack of action against these injustices as well.
And then, they were gone.
Composition The first thing I find my eyes going towards is the face of the male in the image. When my eyes do not find much emotion, or expression going on they move on towards the more interesting part of the image: the flag that is being used as a shroud for the male.
Concept This is an image of a dead male shrouded in the flag of the Syrian Revolution. This image was drawn to portray the statistic of the number of deaths throughout the time of the Syrian Revolution. There are not much emotions or expressions going on in this drawing because I wanted the viewer to impose their own emotions onto it after viewing the context of the image in the info graphic.
Heading in a Different Direction The title In attempt to make the heading of the info graphic more visible, easier to read, and one of the first things catching the attention of the viewer I had to make multiple adjustments. After playing around with it a lot I finally figured out that bringing it down to the middle of the page would be the best location for it. Also the red color was not benefitting it much nor was it making it more attractive. So I changed it to white and put a dark box behind the words to make sure it stood out more. I also made the size of everything else on the image smaller in attempt to make the title stand out more.

It’s Coming! The following drawing was drawn using the tracing technique. Using the pen tool, I would put a point on the edges of the image. From there I would continue either with a straight line or a curve, depending on the shape of the object in the image. Once the shape was formed and closed, the eye dropper tool was used to select the main color of the shape. Once the main shape was traced and colored, then the details and shadows were added as well. This was my very first shape drawing using the tracing technique. Previous to this drawing, all of my images were done using individual lines that, although they did create a picture, they weren’t as smooth as this. In order to draw the over lapping seperate shapes, immediately after drawing a shape I would have to hide it so I could work on the next shape. Thus, I was not able to see my drawing as a whole till the very end. And when I finally revealed the end result, all I could think was
I DID IT! 26 Hands Up

It took more than he realized as it blew away Composition
The first thing my eyes are drawn to are the top left part of the cigarette. This is the highest and the most detailed part of the cigarette. It also has the most contrast between the light gray and the dark black. Along those lines, it also has the most different hues in one location. My eyes then move down along the body of the crumpled up cigarette. They investigate and look over the detail of the shadows caused by the crumpling of the cigarette. There is a lot of interesting details that provide the narrative of the image. Finally my eyes land on the very bottom and the very end of the cigarette that has the least amount of detail. The composition was not done purposefully. Instead, I was attempting to get the most meaningful details in the drawing as possible.
Concept
Smokers are losing so much more than they realize! Not only is there health deteriorating with every breath and smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable death, but the hold the cigarette they hold in their hand has on their life is fatal in all aspects of their life. Smoking tears apart an individual from his/her lungs to his/her relationships.
It takes all control that individual ever had over his life.
They stop, stare, and move on. Composition The first thing my eyes are drawn to in this image are the eyes in the center of the drawing. Not only are they a light color surrounded by a dark, surrounded by light, surrounded by dark, surrounded by light, surrounded by dark, and so on, creating a bull’s eye effect, but they are also the only color in the image that is not a shade of brown. Also, as humans, we have been trained throughout the years to immediately look at the eyes of an individual when we first set eyes on them. The next area my eyes trail off to is the bowl at the front of the drawing. This is probably because it is a more saturated color than the rest of the drawing. But also because it is obviously at the front of the image and closest to the viewer. The next area my eyes go to is back to the eyes and then they travel towards the outside of the bull’s eye effect. I find my eyes inspecting the dirt outlining the child’s face then continuing to his hair. I did not arrange the image this way on purpose, instead, it was a pleasant accident. The order in which my eyes travel along the image speaks to the meaning of the image.
Concept This image was created with the purpose of representing malnutrition and its role as one of the leading causes of preventable death. Still, even with that status, it seems like many of us going to sleep with a full stomach of food do not care. I chose this image to be a representation of this issue because while THEY are suffering across the globe, we are not, and so the issue is not one that is worth our time. Looking at this image breaks my heart because I know that we will continue to neglect the suffereing of these children, even if they were sitting in front of us wide eyed waiting to see what we will do.
Hands Up 31
The Lights and The Darks. Craft: In all of my Value Drawings multiple tools were needed: my hand, a MAC Computer, a mouse, Illustrator, the paint brush, swatches, a drawing tablet, its pen, layers, the object I was attempting to draw, and a light source. All of the Value Drawings were completed by drawing 100 separate lines using Illustrator on a Mac Computer that was connected to the drawing tablet. By moving the drawing tablet’s pen using my hand, I was able to control the paint brush tool on Illustrator to create these separate lines. Eventually, after creating multiple lines, these lines began to form the shape of the object I was creating. Once the main form was done, I went over the drawing again and added more separate lines that were in a different direction than those previous to it. Once the basic drawing was done and now looked like a 100 Line Drawing, I then moved on to adding value to the image. But first I had to add 2 layers to the drawing 1 to add the value and shading to and the other for the background of the image. To do so I had to select Windows > Layers. Then I added my 2 new layers, named them, and layered them in accordance to their function. Next I needed my different shades of gray which I accessed by selecting Windows > Swatches. Then on the Skin Layer I started off with the lightest shade of gray and put it on the lightest part of the object where the light was shining directly onto the object. Then I was using the gray gradients to depict the gradual darkening of the shadows on the object. I continued to do this until the entire image had grays on it illustrating where the darkest and lightest areas on the object were. Then I moved onto the Background Layer. There using the paint brush tool and the black color I drew lines to make it seem as though the image I had just drawn was sitting on a surface.
32 Hands Up
Composition: When looking at this image the first thing my eyes are attracted to is the plant sticking out of the top of the pot. Then my eyes move down to the actual pot itself. And finally my eyes move back and look at the background of the image. I believe my eyes go to look at the plant first because it causes an imbalance in the image. It is also sticking out and my eyes think it is odd and so go to it directly. Next my eyes travel to the most interesting part of the image. The part that has the most colors, it is the largest, and has the most detail. And finally my eyes go back and look at the least significant part of the image, the background. My eyes drift in that direction because they don’t want to miss anything. I purposely put more detail in the plant and the pot in comparison to the background because the background is not important or significant to the drawing. I did however, put the most detail in the plant pot itself, but that was mostly because it had the largest area with different shades and values on it from the light shining on the object.
Concept: All I was trying to say with this drawing is Plant Pot. I was trying to make the viewers feel that they were looking at a Plant Pot that had light shining on it from one side which emphasized the areas with shadows and light. This drawing is meant to symbolize a lit up Plant Pot.

In all of my 100 Line Drawings multiple tools were needed: my hand, a MAC Computer, a mouse, Illustrator, the paint brush, a drawing tablet, its pen, and the object I was attempting to draw.
When looking at this cleaning spray bottle first I see the very top of the spray bottle. Then my eye jumps down to the bottom and larger part of the spray bottle. Then it moves up to the neck of the bottle.
All of the 100 Line Drawings were completed by drawing 100 separate lines using Illustrator on a Mac Computer that was connected to the drawing tablet.
I believe I saw the very top first because it has more details and looks a lot more interesting than the average shapes of the body and neck of the bottle. I believe my eyes then went down to the larger body of the spray bottle because it is larger as well as has more contrast in it’s lines between darks and lights. Then my eye travels up to look at the neck, the only part left. This helps my mind connect the two parts together and allows me to then take a step back and see the drawing as a whole.
34 Hands Up
I put more time and effort into the top part of the spray bottle because I felt that due to its irregular shape it would be harder to depict than the average shape of it’s body.

Hanging On Unlike all the art previous to this one, this one was drawn by hand using a pencil on paper. This drawing was done in the Drawing-101 class the Spring of 2014. This image was drawn by sitting infront of the object in the image for multiple hours as I assessed the different parts of it, sketched it, then added details, values, and shadows. This drawing is one of
One of my great e st accomplishments.
The concept behind this image was not my main objective while creating it. The object that I drew was chosen on my behalf. However, the craft that was needed to complete this drawing was all done by myself, and that is what I am most proud of. My ability to accurately portray the object that I sat before for days while completing this drawing.
38 Hands Up
Hard Headed This drawing was the first I ever accomplished successfully. When I first drew the skull, I thought it looked perfect!
It looked perfect.
Then my professort told me to shade it in and add more value. I was appalled. I knew he was leading me towards disaster. I was going to ruin my masterpiece and it was all his fault. But alas, I was drawing for a grade, and I had to do what he asked. I was never so wrong in my life. The shadows and the detail amplified the previously flat and dull drawing. Suddenly there was depth, dimension, and overlap. What I had thought of as a masterpiece, became even greater, it came to life.
Hands Up 41
Out on the Prairie Upon drawing this image, the main objective was getting the shadows right. My professor turned off all the lights in the room and lit up two lamps and pointed them in the direction of the two objects to be drawn. We spent days in front of these two objects trying to figure out the best way to draw them. Although I do not match this image to the one previous to it, I still believe I did a good job. My mal. ting that
favorite part of the drawing is the deer like aniNot only do I think I accomplished the task of getthe shadows in correctly, however, I also like the depth is portrayed through this image. When I first started,
I messed up. I kept trying to figure out how I could get the back of the gazel like animal to stretch back so far, but it kept coming out wrong and I didn’t know why. Until I finally figured it out.
I needed a change in perspective I needed to stop seeing the object as an object, and instead I needed to see it as a combination of lines coming together to form a shape. Once I looked at the object with that perspective, then I realized that it was a matter of drawing a short line with the perfect angle, and that that would create the illusion of depth.
Hands Up 43
A Quad-Tricycle This is a drawing of one tricycle drawn four times from different angles overlapping each other. This was not difficult to do. First the tricycle was drawn in the middle of the canvas as a whole from one angle. Then all of the other times it was drawn, it was from a different angle, and I would skip drawing parts of it to show that they were overlapping.
To make this drawing better I could have added more detail, shadows, and value. My favorite part of the drawing however, is all of the curved lines. A great majority of them look very smooth and fluid, like the handle bar of the main tricycle and the seat of the tricycle on the right.
