TUTORING SERVICES
TUTORING SERVICES - MISSION STATEMENT The primary goal of the ASC Tutor/Educational Assistance program is to provide student-athletes with academic assistance beyond the classroom. The ASC employs a number of Tulane graduate and highachieving undergraduate students to serve the student-athlete population as either subject-specific tutors or in mentorship roles as Educational Assistants. TUTORS Provide interactive, objective based tutoring, as well as subject study techniques. Tutors are undergraduate students, graduate/professional level students or doctoral students. EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANTS Support student-athletes with additional academic support to strengthen time management, organization and study skills. Educational Assistants are either graduate/professional level.

GRADUATION SUCCESS RATE
The NCAA has released the latest Division I graduation rate data, including the division’s Graduation Success Rate (GSR), reflecting outstanding results for Tulane University student-athletes. Green Wave student-athletes posted an overall GSR of 93 percent, which stands five percentage points above the national average and ranks in the top 20 among all Football Bowl Subdivision institutions. Tulane’s overall GSR is the highest in the state of Louisiana and ranks second in the American Athletic Conference. “Our student-athletes’ commitment to excellence in the classroom was evident once again, as our men and women exceeded the national graduation success rate average,” Tulane Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said. “Our institution’s commitment to academic achievement and preparing our student-athletes for future success will never waver at Tulane. I would like to congratulate all the student-athletes, coaches and academic support staff for their hard work in this great accomplishment.” Tulane featured seven teams with a perfect GSR including men’s tennis, women’s basketball, women’s bowling, women’s golf, women’s swimming and diving, women’s cross country/track and women’s volleyball. Tulane’s seven programs with perfect GSR is tied with the University of Cincinnati for the most among all institutions in The American. “This is truly an outstanding accomplishment for everyone that is connected to our student-athletes,” senior associate athletic director Charvi Greer said. “I could not be more proud of our student-athletes and their successful pursuit of academic excellence at a world class institution.” The national GSR for the entering class of 2013 dropped by one point from 2012 to 88 percent. The NCAA developed the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) to more accurately assess the long-term academic success of student-athletes. The rate holds institutions accountable for transfer students, unlike the federal graduation rate. The GSR also accounts for midyear enrollees and is calculated for every sport. Under the calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing transfer students who leave in good academic standing. The outgoing transfers are included in the receiving institution’s GSR cohort. The GSR allows student-athletes six years to earn their degree. The 2019-20 rate is based on student-athletes who entered college in the fall of 2013, the most recent data available. The four-year GSR rate also includes the freshmen classes of 2010, 2011 and 2012. The rate shows the percentage of those student-athletes who earned a degree by the spring of 2019. This marks the 19th year GSR data has been collected.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS
Carli tragically lost Madison to suicide on January 17, 2014. Her death came as a shock to not only her family, but her friends, community, and people across the country – and became the catalyst for the NYTimes bestselling book “What Made Maddy Run?“ by Kate Fagan. Shortly after Maddy’s death, Carli helped form the Madison Holleran Foundation in an effort to keep Madison’s memory alive and to support others who are struggling with mental illness. Passionate for suicide awareness and prevention, Carli shares Madison’s story in an effort to inspire others to speak out about their mental health struggles and end the stigma that prevented her sister from getting the help that she needed when she needed it.

GRADUATED WITH HONORS Tulane University student-athletes are known for their excellence on the field and in the classroom, and now the best of the best are receiving recognition on a wall in the James W. Wilson Intercollegiate Athletics Center. The “Graduated With Honors Wall” was made possible by the generosity of Tulane alumnus Donald Peters and his wife, Lora. Supporting the Green Wave is a point of pride for Don (A&S ’81) and Lora Peters; the dedicated pair has contributed more than $3 million to the Green Wave Club and Tulane Athletics. The Graduated With Honors Wall is located just outside the Robert “Bob” Cudd III Academic Service Center, which houses advisors who work with student-athletes. There, student-athletes get the tools to be successful in both athletics and academics, such as tutoring, mentoring, life skills and career development. “It takes a special person to be a successful student-athlete at Tulane, and we have so many,” said Greer. “Tulane is a high academic-achieving institution with the same expectations for athletics as any Division I institution. Tulane student-athletes spend long hours challenging their minds and their bodies.” The names of the first honorees were inscribed on the wall following their May 2018 graduations. Lisa Mordell (SSE ’18), varsity volleyball player and vice president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, graduated magna cum laude in three years with degrees in neuroscience and economics. She is currently getting her master’s in neuroscience at Tulane and finished her fourth year of athletic eligibility. THE CLASS OF 2021
