A LETTER FROM THE BEN WEINER DIRECTOR OF ATHLETICS CHAIR

What a year 2022 turned out to be, and what a year is already following in its wake! In the absence of national disasters and pandemics, we believed Tulane Athletics was prepared to thrive on the field as it has off and in the classroom for so many years. Two conference championships, in football and golf, and a national championship in sailing gave us a taste of the competitive excellence we all so desire and that we knew to expect from this great University.

There are so many catalysts who deserve credit for the evolution of Tulane Athletics, but none stand in front of the Green Wave Club. During the pandemic, we enjoyed two of our strongest fundraising years in memory, allowing us to advance progressively in ways we support our student-athletes, retain our coaches, and fund our program operations. We watched many of our peers pull back in correlation with their diminishing donor support. Your support empowers our success. Always has, always will. Our student-athletes, coaches and staff continue to set a standard that others aspire to achieve. The Green Wave Club empowers our ability to accomplish that goal. You create opportunities for tomorrow that don’t exist today, and it remains my belief that the gift of opportunity is the greatest gift any of us can provide.

In 2022, donor support, including the Green Wave Club and the Olive and Blue Society, provided nearly 20% of the intercollegiate athletic budget. And know that the more on-field success we enjoy and the more that the cost of everything from food to travel increases, our overall athletic budget will continue to grow just to sustain our current operations. Therefore, the need for your commitment to Tulane Athletics only grows.

I hope that whatever return on your investment you seek, whether it’s bragging rights for a top 10 football team over your friends who support other programs, or your desire to ensure our student-athletes have the best experience in the country, or simply the pride in how our student-athletes represent you and your university every day of their lives, your investment impacts lives in ways you cannot imagine.

We expect success in all that we do, academically, socially, and competitively. thank you in advance for empowering that success. I thank you for believing in our student-athletes and in Tulane Athletics. And I thank you for being a part of the Green Wave Club!
