-The Green Wave return to action on Saturday, as they welcome UAB to New Orleans for their first game of the season inside Yulman Stadium. -The game will be aired live on ESPN+ and will kickoff at 7 p.m. CT. -UAB will make its first-ever appearance at Yulman Stadium. The Green Wave have not played host to the Blazers since 2012. -Tulane’s last matchup against UAB came back in 2018 when the Green Wave traveled to Birmingham. In that game, Tulane suffered a 31-24 setback. -The Green Wave will look to bounce back from their 61-21 loss at Ole Miss. -Tulane also will look to remain unbeaten as the home team this season. In their home opener at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, on Sept. 11, the Green Wave posted a 69-20 win over Morgan State. FIRST AND 10 1. Tulane comes into its matchup with UAB featuring the nation’s 19th-best scoring offense, averaging 41.7 points per game. Tulane’s offensive unit also ranks fifth in The American. 2. SCOUTING UAB • UAB rolled passed North Texas last week 40-6 in its league opener and improved to 2-1 on the year. • Since returning to action in 2017, UAB has won 36 games - the most of any Conference USA team during that span. • The Blazers are the first C-USA team in league history to win their division three years in a row. • UAB was picked to win the West Division of Conference USA for the fourth straight year in the preseason. • Quarterback Dylan Hopkins and tight end Gerrit Prince had career nights at North Texas in leading UAB to its 40-6 victory. • Hopkins finished the game 6-of-7 for 202 yards and three touchdowns, while Prince had three catches for 136 yards and two touchdowns. • Hopkins set career highs for both passing yards and touchdowns. • UAB concluded the 2020 season with three straight road games and has opened the 2021 season with four straight games away from home - making it seven straight games on the road for UAB • The Blazers will open their brand new, state-of-the-art Protective Stadium next week against Liberty, but had to be road warriors to get there. • UAB is 4-2 in those six road games, which includes winning the 2020 C-USA Championship at Marshall. • Head coach Bill Clark coaches the Blazers. He is in his sixth season and owns a 42-23 record at UAB. LAST TIME OUT: TULANE FALLS AT OLE MISS • Tulane’s matchup with Ole Miss was delayed for an hour and 45 minutes due to lightening in the area. • Tulane failed to score on its first drive of the game for the first time this season. • The Green Wave trailed 40-21 at the half. JHA’QUAN JACKSON
LULING, LA.
What has this year has been like for you, and how you’ve been able to make your way through it? “This year has been kind of rough going from COVID to the hurricane that just hit but, what I was told growing up is that adversity will strike and it all depends on how you come back from it.” You’re a guy that comes from a pretty big family. What was it like growing up with seven siblings? “It was great but, most of the time, I stayed with my great grandma and my mom’s mom, so, I really wasn’t around them as much growing up. From time to time, I got to see them and play with them when I got the chance, but football always came up a school, so I was busy a lot but now that I have a more flexible schedule, I can see them whenever I want.”
What’s it like playing for offensive coordinator Chip Long? “He’s a great coach that is always hard on you. He loves each and every one of us and he’s always trying to make you better. He always tells us to come with the grit every day. He tells us to fight each and every day even though it’s going to be hard work. His favorite line is, it’s going to be hard each and every day, but if he had an easier way to show us how to practice, he would give it to us, but there’s no easy way to practice.” You’re a stylish guy, who likes to look good. If you had your favorite pick, or jerseys and uniforms. What would that combo the helmets, jerseys, pants shoes, what do we wear? “It’s crazy you’re asking this question because just before practice finished up, Devin (Charles-Hubbard) and I were just talking about what jerseys we’re going to wear this weekend. To be honest, I really don’t know what our favorite combination would be. We have so many varieties we could wear and it doesn’t matter what we put on, we’re going to look good. I don’t really have a favorite because all of them are nice.”
