“I grew up involved in the temple and involved in Jewish activities, but my household never did anything super strict to traditional practice. Like, we did all the holidays and I felt like a Jewish family.

At Tulane, I experienced, for the first time, being immersed in a Jewish community where I felt at home by the shared values and similar

understandings of being Jewish, whether that is because of facing antisemitism or prejudice or from growing up with similar holidays and traditions. At the same time, I also recognized that some people who grew up within a predominantly Jewish neighborhood had very different experiences than I. To me, that has reemphasized the point that there's

not one way to be Jewish or one definition of Judaism.”
