a quick note
FROM THE EDITOR “Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August.”
In this year’s summer/fall issue of Tulle, you will find everything from how to wear flowers in your hair (the simple laurel is one of my favorites) to perfecting your bridal glow to creating a cohesive feel that will pull your event together. Not to mention a wealth of weddings that we’ve hand-picked for you! These two seasons are some of the most beautiful in nature, as well as in the wedding world, so I do hope you’ll savor every inch of inspiration found on these pages.

This Jenny Han quote seems entirely fitting as we look back upon a magical summer, and yet look forward to all of the magic that the fall season will bring. Weddings this time of year are especially mesmerizing, with all of the best blooms scattered about and softened color palettes allowing for their organic hues to take center stage.

CECILIA WONG ON SCHEDULING YOUR
BRIDAL SKINCARE Every bride has a timeline for their wedding, a countdown with all of the important tasks mapped out. But don’t forget skincare! We asked Cecilia Wong of Cecilia Wong Skincare to share the best bridal skincare schedule for the optimal glow.
Six months before Evaluate your current skincare routine. My recommended daily regimen for brides includes: cleanser, spray toner, eye cream, facial serum, moisturizer and SPF. Aim to exfoliate with an enzyme-based scrub 2-3 times a week, and alternate between an anti-blemish and hydrating mask 2-3 times a week. If you’re going to try a new brand or product, six months before your big day is the the best time to do it. This way, your skin has time to adjust and you can avoid any negative reactions well before your wedding. This is also the time to start getting monthly facials. I recommend a deep pore cleansing treatment as your first, as it will purify the skin and clear out any blemishes and dull skin. After your initial treatment, alternate monthly between a deep pore cleansing facial and a lifting/toning facial like Microcurrent.
One week before
Schedule a high performance facial like Lift and Shine, which combines LED Light Therapy and Microcurrent therapies. To prevent a last minute reaction, avoid a 22 | tullemag. com
deep cleansing facial and any new skincare products this close to your big day.
Two days before Schedule a pure oxygen spray treatment. It’s typically included in an Oxygen Facial and works to rejuvenate and heal the skin, while preventing breakouts and producing a healthy, wedding day glow!
The night before
Apply a hydrating mask and avoid drinking water for an hour before going to bed, as this can cause puffiness upon waking. Tonight it’s important to relax and rest!
Bonus tips
For those with blemish prone skin (especially blackheads), dab a moisturizing clay mask onto your nose and T-zone leave it on overnight leading up to the big day. Spend 2-3 minutes every night massaging the face and tender under eye area. This helps to drain puffiness and promote better circulation. Don’t forget the neck and décolleté! It’s important to moisturize and nourish these areas daily. —ceciliawongskincare.com

AMY OSABA ON HOW TO ENSURE A
A FABULOUS WEDDING Before you get caught up in all of the wedding details, take a step back and breathe! Floral and event designer Amy Osaba is an expert in creating unique and captivating environments for her clients and now shares how to bring that magic to your own big day.
Stick to a cohesive vision Sites such as Pinterest are wonderful resources for brides-to-be looking for inspiration, but these sites often leave our clients feeling overwhelmed with a plethora of ideas, as if they’ve ventured down a “rabbit hole” of wedding inspiration filled with too many varying ideas, looks, etc. I always encourage my clients to “pin” images they are drawn to— not necessarily things related to weddings, but rather colors, textures, décor. Anything that inspires them or they feel is a direct reflection of their personal style! From there, I encourage them to “edit, edit, edit.” Take your board full of pins and narrow them down to about eight images that truly reflect what you want your event to say, feel and project. This editing process takes an “all over the place” vision and transforms it into a succinct, cohesive vision that is easier to weave throughout all the details of your event.
Don’t be afraid of quiet moments I always ask my clients, what is most im24 | tullemag. com
portant to you? Is it the food, the flowers, the paper goods? Whatever their primary concern is, we focus on that and build around it. If you love flowers, every inch of your ceremony and reception do not have to be covered in flowers. Pick a few areas to make a big impact! I love constructing “rests” within an event— quiet moments that allow the eye to breathe and appreciate the artistry and movement found in the design. Like a piece of music, there are swells, dips and rests in what we desig. This helps to create an event and work of art that is emotionally moving and ultimately has more impact.
Your wedding should reflect you This past March, we executed a wedding for an Atlanta couple big in the restaurant scene. They were an elegant couple with impeccable taste, but they also love music and throwing amazing parties! For their wedding, they wanted to reflect their personalities through an epic dance party and we pulled out all the stops. The bride and groom wanted to make a
huge entrance into the reception to their favorite song, “Sky Full of Stars” by Coldplay, my team and I passed out light-up wristbands that, along with a spotlight, lit up right as the couple walked onto the dance floor. We also passed out wigs, blow-up mics, and neon bracelets. It was epic! What I loved most about this moment was that it was a genuine reflection of the couple: fun, show-stopping, and fabulous! —amyosaba.com

KAYLA BARKER ON CHOOSING YOUR
WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER One of the most important decisions you will make for your wedding is the photographer. Your wedding photos will last for a lifetime, so we’ve asked expert shutterbug Kayla Barker to share how to go about finding the right one.
To see more of Kayla’s work, find her on Instagram @ kaylabarkerphoto and on kaylabarker.com. Image by Sarah Goss.
Determine your style
Do the research
When you start looking at wedding photos, there will probably be a certain style you are drawn to. Maybe it is soft and pastel film photos or maybe it is darker, epic photographs or journalistic, emotion-filled images. Decide on what you are drawn to and start searching for photographers with photographs and portfolios that speak to you. Envision yourself in their photographs and make sure it is a style you will love not just in five years, but in fifty years as well.
It is so important to research your photographer. How long have they been shooting? Have they shot at venues similar to yours? Have they been published or awarded by top wedding blogs? Do they have reviews from past brides you can read? Ask to see a full wedding at a venue similar to yours. While some photographers may have beautiful curated websites or Instagram accounts, they may not have experience shooting real weddings at certain types of locations. Seeing a full wedding gallery will show you what you can expect from them.
Get to know them Your wedding photographer is someone that you will be spending a lot of time with before and on your wedding day. Make sure that you click with their personality and would enjoy having them there to document and celebrate your occasion. Your wedding photographer wants to become your friend and hopefully continue documenting your family even after the wedding, so make sure you not only love their photographs, but also them as a person. 26 | tullemag. com
Ditch the budget Wedding websites and other people will tell you what you should pay for your wedding photography. Throw that number out the window! The cost of wedding photography can vary based on location and years of experience. Besides your wonderful marriage, your wedding photography will be the one thing that remains from the wedding day. Wedding photography is an investment into
your family heritage and having amazing photographs that document your day are priceless. So save up some extra cash, because with wedding photography, you truly do get what you pay for.
Go with your heart While looking at photographers, there will probably be one that really speaks to your soul. Trust your instincts and go with your heart. Don’t compromise based on price. You don’t want to wish later that you had hired the photographer you really wanted instead. Your wedding photography is priceless and is one of the most important decisions you will make for your wedding day. —kaylabarker.com
FLORAL frenzy There’s just something so whimsical about wearing fresh blooms in your hair. Whether you dream of wearing a lush fairy-tale crown or just a classic wreath, here are a few beautiful ways to complete your up-do with flowers.
28 | tullemag. com
Modern Simplicity
A floral ring of only hellebores is both simple and striking.
Romantic Cluster
If you want to wear flowers and show off a lovely low updo as well, consider a small hair comb. Composed of pistachio leaves and Sahara spray garden roses.
Delicate Blooms
White brodea is delicate and romantic, weave its florets through your up-do.
Tropical Crown
A big, statement hair wreath for an editorial look, featuring a bright yellow tree peony, kumquats on the branch and variegated greens.
Natural Vine
Just one strand of smilax vine creates this natural circlet. Smilax is a great option for an outdoor wedding as it will last even through hot weather.
Floral Masterpiece
This lush, gorgeous crown is made of silk flowers! If you’re looking for big and bold, but worried about flowers wilting through the day, consider a handmade silk piece that looks remarkably real and lasts a lifetime.
One-sided Spray
An asymmetrical nod to greenery with a touch of floral from the flowering spirea.
Herbal Wreath
Eucalyptus foliage is hardy and fragrant. Let it fill your day with relaxing herbal aromatherapy.
