Bringing Fairy Tales to Life!

Tulsa Opera is inviting us all to join them as they go Into the Woods! This beloved musical, wri en by the late Stephen Sondheim, is a bit of a departure from the usual Tulsa Opera production. Tulsa Opera’s Artistic Director Aaron Beck answers some of our burning questions about the show.

Why is the Tulsa Opera presenting a musical?

“Tulsa Opera’s revitalized artistic mission includes a new commitment to community — the community that gave us our name — which is especially important in our 75th anniversary season. Clearly, Tulsa’s audiences love music, and they love stories. Sondheim combined the best of both in Into the Woods.”

Will it be an operatic version of the tale?

“No! This is Into the Woods as audiences know and love it, with Sondheim’s classic tunes, James Lapine’s fabulous story, and some of the most gorgeous scenery and costumes ever seen on the Tulsa stage.”

What can Tulsa Opera bring to this classic tale that we haven’t seen before?

Visually, this one will be a real spectacle. Enormous, grand scenery has made its way on four semi trucks to Tulsa, and local costume designer Randy Blair has worked with director Tara Faircloth to create costumes that are a treat for the senses. We’re also proud to use some of Tulsa’s best local talent in addition to national stars.”

Judging by Tulsa Opera’s skill at creating incredible, larger-than-life productions, this one is not to be missed!
