Dr. Odell Carpenter places sign on Memorial Drive directing folks to his house at 11415 S. 82nd East Ave., where he will begin a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Sunday night. The subject will be “Experiencing God.” Few churches are having Sunday evening services and this will ill a need that many feel, he said. Carpenter is well-known in the area, having served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Bixby for 16 years and Haikey Park Baptist for eight years. He currently conducts services on Sunday mornings at Skelly Drive Baptist Church in Tulsa. The study will be a time of informal sharing and fellowship. All are welcome to attend. Bixby is among the fastest growing cities in Oklahoma. Since the 2000 census, the population has grown by 70 percent to 22,580 residents. The city, on the banks of the Arkansas River, is a blend of Tulsa’s metro area and a rural farming atmosphere that includes Carmichael’s Produce. Among the south Tulsa suburb’s big annual events are the Green Corn Festival and Bixby BBQ ‘n Blues.
