Tumwater A Place to Live, Work, and Play
We live in a city that is blessed with natural beauty and a strong sense of community spirit and pride. We have countless opportunities to enjoy our City and lifestyle in Tumwater. Our rich history attracts visitors and locals alike and the abundance of trees and natural areas make our community truly special. Tumwater parks provide active and passive recreation opportunities for thousands of users each year. Youth and adult sports, picnics, reunions, children’s activities, sports camps, trails, toys, and water access are just a few of the amenities that our parks provide. You may also take part in one of our annual events that occur around a holiday or celebration. Tumwater Parks and Recreation held dozens of events, classes, trips and camps this summer and our park facilities have been overflowing with people enjoying what Tumwater has to offer. It’s been a busy, fun-filled summer and we look forward to more activities and events this fall. We once again saw record participation in our 4th of July activities! The day started with the 4th Annual Fore on the 4th Fun Run held at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course. Over 125 participants of all ages took part in the 4-mile run/walk on our beautiful course. The 32nd Annual Independence Day Parade was also a great success. Thousands of residents came out to watch, participate in, and enjoy this year’s parade. The evening of the 4th began with the 19th Annual Tumwater Artesian Festival on the Golf Course driving range. Over 19,000 people attended this year’s festival – an all-time attendance record! The night culminated, as always, with the Thunder Valley Fireworks Show – the biggest and best fireworks display in the South Sound all year. The event would not be possible without nearly 100 volunteers whose time and effort make the event a success. Special thanks to the Tumwater Downtown Association and many other local businesses for sponsoring this event. Last but not least, the Tumwater Artesian Brewfest welcomed over 3,000 attendees for beer, wine, cider and spirit tasting; delicious food; fun games and contests; and great entertainment from Keys on Main dueling pianos. This is an annual event that you don’t want to miss! Stay connected with Tumwater Parks & Recreation by contacting us to be added to our email list and following the City of Tumwater on Facebook. Whether or not you participate in one of our programs this fall, we hope you will get out and RECREATE! – Tumwater Parks & Recreation Staff

HISTORICAL HOUSES Brewmaster's House (formerly Henderson House) The Brewmaster’s House was built in 1905 for William and Louise Naumann. Mr. Naumann was a brewmaster at the Olympia brewery just across the river. Considered quite modern for its day, the house boasted hot and cold running water, a coal-fired boiler, and electric lights in each room. The design of the home was largely inspired by the Victorian age, but was much less elaborate than earlier Queen Anne examples. The exterior of the home had changed over the years, but it was restored to its original appearance after the City of Tumwater acquired the house in 1977. The interior changed very little and provides a wonderful look at how Tumwater residents lived in the early 1900s. Interpretive signs give the visitor a thorough history of the house and its various owners. The Brewmaster’s House will be open on the following dates from 1:00 to 4:00pm: Sunday, September 1 | Sunday, October 20 (Author's Afternoon)
For more information, please contact: Karen L. Johnson, Curator, Schmidt House Olympia Tumwater Foundation | PO Box 4098 | Tumwater WA 98501 (360) 890-2299 | karen@olytumfoundation.org | www.olytumfoundation.org

Now owned by the City of Tumwater, it is managed by Olympia Chapter #4, Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington who have completely furnished the house with period pieces. A delightful addition is a 1"-scale, fully furnished miniature replica of the Crosby House. Crosby House is open the following dates, 1:00 to 4:00pm. September 1 | September 15 | October 6 | October 20 Tours available any time of year upon request.
For tours or more information, please contact: Ann Olson, President, Olympia Chapter #4 Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington (360) 943-5209 | sandaolson@outlook.com

Several Thurston County authors will be on hand to sell and sign their books at the Crosby House, Brewmaster’s House, and Schmidt House. Selected authors will also give brief talks about their work.
