TUMWATER YOUTH PROGRAM Tumwater Youth Program (TYP) offers evening activities for teens and pre-teens in the Tumwater community. Grade school activities are open to youth grades 2-5, and middle school activities are open to grades 6-8. New High School Hangouts welcome grades 9-12! TYP events are a place to have fun, socialize with friends, interact positively with adults, and so much more. We plan to begin offering TYP events in October with two grade school events and one middle school event per month. YOUTH ENRICHMENT Babysitting This course is designed to prepare 11-15 year olds for the responsibility of safely caring for infants and children. This dynamic, interactive, activity-based program provides participants with numerous hands-on learning experiences. Includes instruction in CPR, first aid techniques, problem solving methods, and supervision. Don’t forget to wear comfortable clothing and a mask. Academic & Career Road Mapping With growing class sizes, students and families are always searching for additional academic support. Studies show that students are more successful academically, when students, parents and educational professionals work together in planning a student's future after high school. This course is designed to assist students and families in navigating the college process by developing academic and career road maps for high school and beyond. This workshop is an affordable approach to spark conversations around what students envision for their futures and to help them to develop a college-going and career mindset. Students will learn about different learning institutions, careers and apprenticeship options and how to pay for them.

BRICKS 4 KIDZ CLASSES Bricks 4 Kidz After-School Enrichment Learn the fundamentals of S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art, mathematics) in an extraordinary atmosphere for children, where students learn, build, and play with LEGO® Bricks! Bricks 4 Kidz uses proprietary model plans created by engineers and architects. They believe that kids learn best through fun activities that engage their curiosity and creativity. Each class uses models and curriculum that are different from session to session as well as year to year. All students take home a custom mini-figure (kits are reused not taken home).

Bricks 4 Kidz Junior Robotics Children as young as 6-12 can have fun learning robotics! While working on laptops, kids will be able to program the model builds they craft using Bricks 4 Kidz model plans and LEGO® technology to spin, walk, tumble, play music, and more. "WEDO" bridges the physical world, represented by the models, and the virtual world of computers and programming software, providing a hands-on learning experience that actively involves young students in their own learning process. All students take home a custom mini-figure (kits are reused not taken home).

VIRTUAL YOUTH PROGRAMS Zaniac Zoom Class Join Alex Zerbe for this one-of-a-kind experience! A professional performer for over 20 years, Alex has appeared on America’s Got Talent and performed for more than 2,500 schools nationwide. Alex will give you a crash course in juggling, balancing, and beatboxing as well as some easy-to-learn magic tricks, sight gags, and funny faces. This class is super low-key and extra silly. For this class you will need: • • • •
Space to move Comfortable shoes and clothes plus a hoodie or light jacket. A broom or selfie stick/yard stick with a tennis ball taped to one end. Juggling Balls – You can make your own balls with rice and balloons or grab a tennis ball, baseball, beanbag, an orange, or even a stuffed animal. Note: Class will run via Zoom. VIRTUAL KIDZ LOVE SOCCER Participants join class using Zoom and connect through any web browser. No equipment is provided or required to participate; common household items can be used. However, optional starter kits are available for purchase. To ensure the security of the class, each week families receive a secure code to log into the class. Optional Starter Kits Available: https://kidzlovesoccer.scoresports.com/ For families that want sporting equipment, an optional starter kit is available from Score Sports. There is an additional cost for this kit and shipping. It is not required to participate in our virtual classes.

Kidz Love Soccer (Virtual) Class Descriptions: Mommy/Daddy & Me Soccer The fun happens together, so don’t just watch from the sidelines! Here is your chance to join in your toddler’s introduction to the world’s most popular sport. Tot-Soccer Learn core skills and develop a soccer foundation, while playing at home with an adult and being coached over Zoom. The time-tested, age-specific curriculum builds confidence and promotes physical development in a supportive and fun environment. Tot-Soccer focuses on helping kids develop their large motor skills through demos and fun games like Rainbow Quest! Adult participation required.
Pre-Soccer Learn core skills and develop a soccer foundation, while playing at home with an adult and being coached over Zoom. Pre-Soccer helps youngsters develop a lifelong love of soccer while learning concepts of playing on a team. Curriculum includes energetic, all-inclusive games that teach the basics about playing with a group. In addition to building their soccer skills, Pre-Soccer kids begin learning the fundamentals of good sportsmanship through sharing and being aware of other players. Adult participation required.
Soccer 1 Players will learn dribbling, passing, defense and shooting goals! Fun skill games played at every session, working with coaches via Zoom. Concepts of small-sided soccer matches introduced gradually. Perfect for first-time players while fun and engaging for kids with some experience. Parents are invited to play along or to watch and cheer from the sidelines.
Soccer 2 Players build skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting in a team format, as well as an introduction to goal-tending. Kids learn concepts necessary to play together as a team. From defense and midfield to forward and goalie, kids receive an introduction to every position. Appropriate for players of varying skill levels.

BRICKS 4 KIDZ VIRTUAL CLASSROOM Brick Build-Along What are you creating with that big box of miscellaneous LEGO Bricks? Wish you could build with friends and be challenged to do something unique? Join us LIVE online weekly to learn and build the challenge of the day! We will create, build and share fun projects using Bricks you have at home. Classes will include group learning time, instructor-led building of the project of the day and sharing what you’ve built with other students. Requires Zoom (free), and whatever LEGO Bricks you have at home.

Virtual Technic Studio This INTERACTIVE online class uses a virtual desktop application that allows users to build our unique Bricks 4 Kidz models using virtual LEGO parts. Students will learn important concepts of STEAM education by examining the construction of the day's model and discussing a related lesson. Then, students will virtually build it using our “digital” project kit and following along with the instructor. Students will have freedom to make changes in their build. This virtual class will also give students a better understanding of studio design software such as Auto Cad and even 3D printing. Requires Windows or OS-X, Zoom (free), and Bricklink Studio 2.0 (free) installed.

Virtual Video Game Design Kids will develop a range of coding and problem-solving skills as they create video games in this INTERACTIVE online class. Your young game designer will think creatively and reason systematically, while following along with the instructor to create video games using virtual LEGO® models. Each game progressively teaches more advanced capabilities within the design software. Students will be proud and excited to play and customize their very own completed video games. Different challenges each week are targeted for every age and skill level. Requires Zoom (free) and Scratch online or offline (free).

KIDZ LOVE SOCCER Kidz Love Soccer provides high-quality classes that teach the fundamentals of the sport through a non-competitive format. Classes meet weekly and are taught by professional staff in a nurturing, recreational environment. A typical session includes age-appropriate activities: skill demonstrations, fun games, and instructional scrimmages. Every child will receive a Kidz Love Soccer jersey. RECREATIONAL & COMPETITIVE BASKETBALL LEAGUES
Due to local schools starting remotely, facility use limitations, and Health Department guidance, the Tumwater Youth Basketball “Winter League” season must be postponed until at least January 2021. We understand the important role that youth sports plays within the community, especially now during these challenging times. Please know that we are exhausting every effort to ensure that we offer a safe return to play as soon as it is possible to do so. Skyhawks Multi-Sport Camp
Skyhawks Sports Academy provides sports programs for children to discover and develop athletic skills and social values, such as teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. Skyhawks offers children a positive sports experience while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle. The week-long Multi-Sport Camp includes instruction in soccer, baseball, and flag football. It is designed to introduce young athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting. Athletes will learn the rules and essentials of each sport through skill-based games and scrimmages. By the end of the week, participants will walk away with knowledge of multiple sports along with vital life lessons such as respect, teamwork, and self-discipline.

In our current situation, walking has become an increasingly popular way for us all to get outside, exercise and engage both our minds and bodies. To encourage our community to get out and walk, this summer we created TumWalk, Tumwater’s new walking program! And now we're continuing it into the fall by popular demand! Participation is easy from the convenience of your own neighborhood. To be a part of the program you will need to register online, then download the Pacer app at (https://www.mypacer.com/). You'll receive a link from us to join the TumWalk group. Then you can take on regular challenges, achieve goals and even win prizes, all while enjoying the beneficial activity of walking! Whether you have never played the guitar or can play a little and want to improve, this is the class for you. Learn proper techniques, melody, harmony and some sight-reading. We will create an original piece of music together! Please provide your own guitar (acoustic or electric with small amplifier). A $20 book fee is due to the instructor at the first class. After completing any beginning guitar class, you are ready to read and create chord diagrams. Learn how to be successful at playing basic chords through proven techniques for guitar harmony. Masks are required.

Uke Can Feel Good Again This class was designed to bring some much-needed musical joy and lyrical positivity into our lives. You'll be learning songs (most of which should be familiar) that span the stylistic and era spectrum. Songs should be playable for anyone who knows at least 7 uke chords and can transition between them. The goal is to get you playing some uplifting music on the uke and start feeling good about life again! Prerequisite: Know at least 7 basic chords. The uke may be little in size, but it's huge in terms of versatility. Prerequisite: Ability to play at least 7 basic chords (and transition between chords) and have played through a few complete songs. ADULT ENRICHMENT Active Older Adult Trips Our trips and tours program for active adults (50 and over) offers exercise, sightseeing, photo opportunities and a chance to meet some great people. We strive to accommodate adults of all abilities. Individuals requiring assistance, please call (360) 754-4160. Departure will be from the Old Town Center. Deadline to register is one week prior to each trip.
Nisqually, Olympia's Gem Experience the special estuarine ecosystem where the Nisqually River reaches the Puget Sound. This trip includes walks at both the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge and nearby Tolmie State Park. Both areas have developed trails which provide many opportunities for bird and animal watching! More than 100 species of resident birds are found here. Total walking: 4-5 miles. Elevation gain 300 feet. Price includes trip management, transportation and admission.

Beginning Digital Photography This is an introductory course to the practical use and technology of Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras. Explore techniques and varying approaches to photography, i.e. Travel/ Family/ Fashion/ Fine Art/ Documentary. Workflow and digital asset management file storage, transferring of images, image editing, and optimizing final outputs. This class will help you better use your own *DSLR camera, lenses, and accessories. One-time supply fee of $20 is due on the first day of class to the instructor.

The Police Citizen’s Academy is a classroom-based course designed to provide residents a broad understanding of local police services and the criminal justice system. Commissioned police officers and detectives participate as instructors, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the police department and hands-on learning experiences. HISTORIC HOMES Brewmaster's House (formerly Henderson House) The Brewmaster’s House was built in 1905 for William and Louise Naumann. Mr. Naumann was a brewmaster at the Olympia brewery just across the river. Considered quite modern for its day, the house boasted hot and cold running water, a coal-fired boiler, and electric lights in each room. The design of the home was largely inspired by the Victorian age, but was much less elaborate than earlier Queen Anne examples. The exterior of the home had changed over the years, but it was restored to its original appearance after the City of Tumwater acquired the house in 1977. The interior changed very little and provides a wonderful look at how Tumwater residents lived in the early 1900s. Interpretive signs give the visitor a thorough history of the house and its various owners.
Brewmaster's House is currently closed to the public.

Crosby House Come visit the Crosby House Museum, Tumwater's oldest historic home, located across from the Brewmaster's House in Tumwater's Historic District at 702 Deschutes Way SW. This charming 1860 house was built by Bing Crosby's grandfather, Nathaniel, for his new bride, Cordelia Smith. Now owned by the City of Tumwater, it is managed by Olympia Chapter #4, Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington who have completely furnished the house with period pieces. A delightful addition is a 1"-scale, fully furnished miniature replica of the house.

Historical and Pioneer Park Shelter Reservations: Reservations: • Shelters are available to reserve 365 days in advance. • Reservations are not currently being accepted for 2020. Please refer to the City website COVID-19 page or call for clarification. • Reservations are not confirmed until completed form and fee have been received. Online reservations do not require completion of paper reservation form. • To check availability, visit www.ci.tumwater.wa.us/parks. • Large/Public Events: For all events larger than 100 people and/or open to the public, a special event permit application must be completed and approved. No person shall use a city park for a public event without a special event permit. Cancellations: • Reservation fees are refundable minus a $10 cancellation fee. • Cancellations must be made at least 14 days prior to the reservation to be eligible for a refund. Cancellations are not available through the online registration system; they must be requested by contacting office staff. • No refunds will be made due to inclement weather. Amenities/ Hours: • Parking space is limited. Carpooling recommended. • The parks can accommodate groups of up to 100 people.* • Parks are opened at sunrise and gates are locked at sunset. • Historical Park Shelter: Accommodates 80 people.* 3 power outlets, 20 amps max each, 1 group grill, and 1 water source. • Pioneer Park Shelter: Accommodates 50 people.* 2 power outlets, 20 amps max each, 1 group grill, and 1 water source. *Please refer to the City website COVID-19 page for current restrictions on allowed group sizes.

By Mail: Mail in the registration fee along with the form to: Tumwater Parks & Recreation | 555 Israel Road SW | Tumwater, WA 98501 All classes have minimum/maximum enrollment numbers to ensure a quality experience for all participants. The City of Tumwater requires that a release of liability form be completed either in person or online for each participant in its Parks and Recreation programs. These forms will be provided at registration.
Policy • Class sizes are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis. • Classes may be cancelled (or combined) due to low enrollment. • For classes requiring an enrollment fee, the fee must be paid prior to your name being placed on the class roster.
Inclement Weather S hould school be cancelled due to poor weather, power outages or other related circumstances, all parks and recreation classes, leagues and programs scheduled at those facilities will adhere to the school cancellation policies.
Cancellations Classes with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled three business days before starting date unless otherwise noted.
