Tumwater A Place to Live, Work, and Play

Winter may still technically be upon us, but spring is so close that we can almost feel it! We at Tumwater Parks and Recreation are pleased to provide recreation opportunities that will help brighten your day and enrich your life. This spring, introduce your little one to the game of soccer at one of the Kidz Love Soccer classes, for ages 2 to 10. We are offering two spring sessions, both at Pioneer Park. Grade school and middle school students are invited to hang out with the Tumwater Youth Program singing karaoke, chatting with friends, and being dancing machines; or conquering the lanes at a special Neon Bowling event. Spring is right around the corner and Tumwater's spring baseball league will soon be underway. Though on-time registration has closed, if you have an interested child in kindergarten through 5th grade, give us a call right away - we may still have space on teams! Junior golfers have plenty of opportunities to get involved through First Tee classes, private lessons, or even the 5th Annual O Bee Junior Open Golf Tournament. See the golf pages for more details. And don't forget the ever-popular Easter Egg Dash for ages 11 and under, happening on April 11! Kids don't get to have all the fun, though! Seniors can enjoy a delicious lunch while visiting with friends or try one of the many free activities offered at the Old Town Center. Adults with musical inclination can dive into Beginning Guitar, Taiko Drumming, Ukulele lessons, Community Orchestra, and more! Fitness buffs or those just building the exercise habit can try their hand at something new with several fitness and yoga classes to choose from, thanks to partnerships with Firefly Yoga and Vision Fitness and Health. Spring is also the perfect time to get out on the golf course at Tumwater Valley - whether you're a beginner or a more seasoned golfer. Take advantage of the great rates at the Tumwater Valley Golf Club. Plenty of fun to go around! Stay connected with Tumwater Parks and Recreation by contacting us to be added to our email list or follow the City of Tumwater on Facebook. 2020 Tumwater Spring Brochure

HISTORIC HOMES Brewmaster's House (formerly Henderson House) The Brewmaster’s House was built in 1905 for William and Louise Naumann. Mr. Naumann was a brewmaster at the Olympia brewery just across the river. Considered quite modern for its day, the house boasted hot and cold running water, a coal-fired boiler, and electric lights in each room. The design of the home was largely inspired by the Victorian age, but was much less elaborate than earlier Queen Anne examples. The exterior of the home had changed over the years, but it was restored to its original appearance after the City of Tumwater acquired the house in 1977. The interior changed very little and provides a wonderful look at how Tumwater residents lived in the early 1900s. Interpretive signs give the visitor a thorough history of the house and its various owners.

Brewmaster's House Spring Schedule: 1st Sundays, 1:00 - 4:00pm, April - October

For more information, please contact: Karen L. Johnson, Curator, Schmidt House Olympia Tumwater Foundation | PO Box 4098 | Tumwater WA 98501 (360) 890-2299 | karen@olytumfoundation.org | www.olytumfoundation.org

Crosby House Come visit the Crosby House Museum, Tumwater's oldest historic home, located across from the Brewmaster's House in Tumwater's Historic District at 702 Deschutes Way SW. This charming 1860 house was built by Bing Crosby's grandfather, Nathaniel, for his new bride, Cordelia Smith. Now owned by the City of Tumwater, it is managed by Olympia Chapter #4, Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington who have completely furnished the house with period pieces. A delightful addition is a 1"-scale, fully furnished miniature replica of the house.

Crosby House Museum Spring Schedule: Open 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month (April 5 - October 25), 1:00 to 4:00pm Tours are open to the public. Suggested donation of $2.00 per person.
