TUNTREET

Leader Jardar Lindaas Bringedal Editor in Chief tuntreet@samfunnetiaas.no

ENGAGE, JOIN IN, BECAUSE IT IS HAPPENING Sometimes I am in situations where the fellowship feels so strong that I think that everyone is a part of it. Then I stop, and remember that that it is not the case. At least not when it comes to equality and climate change. On Friday, the 8th of March I attended the International Women’s Day event in Ås. After the march (see the front page) and the appeals, we gathered in the basement at Ås kulturhus. Topics that were brought up for discussion were things like different legislative changes in the fight towards equality, among other things. Many of the previous laws were so foolish that many in the assembly laughed. Another thing to laugh about is Equinor that wants to drill for oil in protected areas in the Great Australian Bight. Or you can try to do something about it. Because there is still a lot of work to do, both when it comes to equality and climate change. In March there are three different demonstrations being held on three different Fridays. The 8th of March was for International Woman’s Day (p. 29), and the 15th and 22nd of March are for the Climate Strike for Future (p 30-31). It is about time that words turn into action. Other events to attend in March is the General Assembly at Studentsamfunnet i Ås (p. 10-12 and 20-21). Here you have good opportunities to influence on the course for the student community in Ås. On Monday, the 30th of October 2017 I attended the General Assembly at Studentsamfunnet i Ås for the first time. On Friday the 8th of March I marched for equality for the first time. On Saturday the 9th of March I sang in karaoke in CaféKlubben for the first time. And on Friday the 15th of March I will march for the Climate Strike for Future. Go do something for the first time. Maybe we can expand the fellowship. EDITORIAL

TUNTREET

“Sign here! Name and e-mail! We have a meeting on Thursday, you are welcome!” Magnus Øydvin Journalistf

I got a pen, and signed my friend’s name while I was at it. It felt good. When the Hankatten’s carved wooden penis fell last year many thought it was an immature prank. Personally I found it entertaining to see all the raw emotions that were connected to this old piece of wood. The action was in many was a personification of the never-ending struggle towards a more equal society, and therefore a beautiful piece of art. Some might wonder over the motivation behind becoming a feminist, we men don’t really have anything to complain about. But we actually do. It was something as casual as the Nordisk Filmfestival in Ås that got me thinking about the topic. I was invited to see Unge Astrid, a movie (lightly fictional) about the teenage years of Astrid Lindgren. We get to see how Astrid, a happy and innocent girl, is exposed to the hardships of life, in this case by a much older man and a child born out of wedlock. When she finally ends things with this man, he tempts to salvage the relationship by promising her a new kitchen and living room. He is not able to think outside the same norms that women have to follow. The movie showed, in my opinion, how men are also slaves of the patriarchy. 4

Issue 03 Year 74

Marta Breen (author and feminist) said in an interview with Dag og Tid that women traditionally have been placed in different secondary roles as a gender, while men are human, the universal standard. Women represent the sexual, she bears honor and shame, while the man is neutral. Furthermore, she points to the fact that the way in which women are perceived has been discussed for thousands of years, but that we rarely discuss how men are viewed, although men almost always have been dominant. The question has traditionally been directed towards how much freedom women should have, and how much they should be able to decide on their own about their own lives. However, there are even narrower ideas about what it is to be a man, and it can be equally as straining. Luckily, #metoo has lifted up the conversation about the theme (read: feminism). We no longer need to start the conversation from scratch, we know what it is about. “Women should have just as much free reign as men” - Marta Breen This is not an attempt to be a knowit-all, but rather an attempt to make it accessible. The word feminism is for many, pretty scary and hard to understand, but it is actually about freedom for all genders. Freedom to do what you want despite the societal norms about a gender that

you were randomly assigned. Boys are not baby blue, girls are not pink. Girls can be tough, but they should also be allowed to be feminine. And the same goes for men. And that is why I am officially a feminist now. I think Ås Feministiske Studenter is doing a great job of conveying the message in a pretty outdated social society culture that divides people by gender, and thereby undermines the traditional gender roles. Don’t get me wrong, it can be fun, but maybe it is becoming a bit outdated? After the Hankatten’s carved wood penis was cut down, there was a big fuss in Ås. Who did it!? I was a suspect for several different reasons, but I can say that it was not me . I am not that brave, and I have no idea who did it. Instead I composed, in the privacy of my own home, a melody for the fallen on my fiddle (possibly naked, like Nansen, laying on a reindeer rug I acquired during the hunting season last fall), long after the storm calmed down. TUNTREET

“Now I know how Roald Amundsen felt”

KARSKRENNJ: Trøndernes Fagforening “cultivates the culture, attitude, and mentality of Trøndelag” by hosting Karskrennj every year. The concept is simple: Drink karsk (a drink containing moonshine and coffee) and ski as fast as you can. Caroline Lensjø-Alvin Journalist

Coffee, cake and hot dogs Each team consist of four participants. Each participant has to drink two karsk during the race. This year, TF upped their game and sold coffee, cake and hot dogs. The participants put their skis on, got their karsk ready, and it all began. Alternative solutions The rules clearly state that you need to wear skis and try to cross the finish line first. However, many of the participants overlooked these rules and went for a more alternative solution. Although most of the participants had skis, some had interpreted it a little differently. One team went for one tiny ski, another used storage boxes, and others just ran. There was also great variation in style and execution. Most of the teams sprinted for the win, while others went for the slow and graceful style. Audience Opinons The audience had several different

Herman Bjørnson Hagen Photographer

opinions about the event. One wanted “to see people get drunk and fall over” as this was one of her favorite things. Some people were more concerned with the weather conditions, and were only there in solidarity to their forening (social society). “Now I know how Roald Amundsen felt. (no, scratch that). Now I know how Scott felt, he actually died”, was one way to describe the cold conditions during this year’s Karskrennj. But, despite cold weather and, at times, a bored(?) atmosphere , a lot of people showed up to watch. Karskrennj? real karsk? Firstly, the participants have to bring their own alcohol, and although they are supposed to use moonshine, most people don’t. Alternatives such as vodka, Baileys, and even water were used instead of moonshine. Secondly, no one made sure the ratio was correct. There was not a penny in sight. Thirdly, the coffee was not as warm as it is supposed to be. However, it is understandable that cold coffee is safer so the participants don’t burn themselves. It is also time saving to do an eye measurement than actually use a coin. Furthermore, more preferences are met when people bring their own version of moonshine. Hit for Hit live in Festsalen Was it a hit?

Solveig Erga Journalist

Sandra Elena Orre Photographer

Translated By: Magnus Horgen Rekkedalt

Most people know about the humour show Kollektivet and the Hit-for-Hit series that has been aired on NRK. On Friday February 22nd, they came to Festsalen to entertain the students with their combination of music and humour. At 22:22 exactly, they entered the stage and opened the show with some “slow-going beats. They kept it going through the evening with characters from their NRK series. We got to see everything from Swedes making music out of a squeaking leather jacket, to car bands and music in dialects that were so obscure it was impossible to understand.

TUNTREET

Olav Solda and Juliane Nødeland were happy with Hit-for-Hit; they thought the show delivered and made both of the grin from ear to ear.

The volume of the show was high and I think most of the audience were grateful for the free earplugs provided by Samfunnet. The audience at the back however had problems hearing what was being sung and said on stage. The sound could have been better, but when Festsalen is as packed as it was this night it is a well-known problem. Upstairs in the gallery however the audience could not complain as the sound was nice and clear.

Patrick P on-stage were Ole-Johan Næss Holm and Daniel Kalvik. The latter took the job very seriously and turned up with a towel on his head, just like in the series. The boys said that they thought it was fun to get up on the stage and support Patrick P, but they did not feel any pressure to perform. It looked like it took quite a bit of effort to back Patrick P, but the students say that they were relaxed.

The show was finished with jokes and songs from the series Kollekivet, performed right after their poplar song about male genitalia. Except for the sound, the students that Tuntreet got to talk to had no negative things to say about the show and the consensus was that the humour duo was a hit. In other words Hit for Hit lived up to their name.

The duo had some really good interactions with the audience. One of their characters, Patrick P, was backed by Ås students on-stage which we got to interview later. To the fans of the guys on stage and to those who had seen the tvseries, they delivered as expected. To people who had not seen the tv-series however some of what was going on on-stage did not make a whole lot of sense, but with a cup of beer and good vibes the duo’s performance was funny nonetheless. Among the students that backed Ole-Johan and Daniel give a demonstration on how to back someone. This was obviously something that came very naturally to the boys.

Hannkattforeningen in the frying pan

Hannkattene hosted a Q&A session at the Tuesday Refill. With a good mood, something to drink and Hannkattene all lined up, everything was in place for a real roasting session.

Ole-Johan Næss Holm Journalist

Why host this event? Tuesday February 19th... the time had come for a question and answer session with Hannkattforeningen in Halvors Hybel. With a slightly tense vibe and sniggering hannkatts on stage, a packed Halvors Hybel got the chance to experience something special. The show started with hannkattene receiving questions about why they wanted to host such an event. The audience received a clear answer. They felt there were 8

too many questions and rumours surrounding them and felt the need to debunk some of the myths and give out some answers.

Translated By: Magnus Horgen Rekkedal

tried to joke away the seriousness. To questions like “How do you think Hannkattforeningen will fare in the years to come?” and “Do you think SiÅs will terminate Genuine “guttastemning” Hannkattforeningen’s contracts if Throughout the session the you cannot find new members?” the gang on stage are laughing, smiling answer is simply “It will probably be and look slightly nervous. It seems fine” and an added joke at the end. like they do not always grasp the They also answered questions seriousness of the questions. The about what their contribution to the answers they give to some of the student life here in Ås is. To this they questions left me feeling like they answered that they provide parties

TUNTREET and fun and an option for everyone in need of an afterparty, and there was no doubt that the audience liked this particular answer. “Why did you join Hannkattforeningen?” was another question being asked. They were all eager to answer, and the guys on the stage looked as interested as the audience to hear each other’s answers. The common denominator between the answers was “guttastemning”. There was also real “guttastemning” when they performed a passage from the poem “Terje Vigen” when asked about their guilty pleasures. Other confessions of guilty pleasures were Cascada, The Vampire Diaries, and Britney Spears. Some of them actually choose not to answer. View of women and conflicts Hannkattforeningen believes that much of the critique they receive is undeserved. There were many questions about their views on women, and why they use the word “object” when referring to women. The word does not describe all women. In their view the use of the word “object” gives the women who spend a night in one of their rooms a form of anonymity. In other words, an “object” is a woman who has had a one-night stand with one of the members of the fraternity. The conflict between Hannkattforeningen and other sororities and fraternities like Feminin og Fornem and Gents Academy, in the hannkattens eyes, is all because of prejudices. The view of women that is ascribed to them does not exist like others believe, according to them. Something they were especially critical of is the new students being advised against going

to Hannkattloftet. “There are not a lot of places you can go if you want an afterparty, and if people want to party a little longer our offer still stands.” They claim to be victims of a smear campaign as there was a petition against them. They add that they wish the people behind the petition would discuss their problems with them directly, and that this could help resolve the conflict. Misunderstood sweethearts When the evening is over and the questions have been answered I am left with new thoughts. They seem like a bunch of jovial fellows who have gotten a reputation that simply does not ring true. They do not seem to care much, but if the opportunity arises they are probably more than willing to have a talk to people disagreeing with them. Let us hope that this has put Hankattene, the oldest fraternity in Ås, in a better light

Top 5 questions and answers: What would you think if your daughters went to an afterparty at Hannkattloftet? - I am not going to have daughters. Why are you (the Hazard) wearing a wig? - I have been told to by the “Administrerende Direktør” Will you join the march on International Women’s Day? - No, we do not have the time for that. Why do you pee from the balcony? - Because we have more willys than we have toilets What is the scariest question you could be asked? - “Do you have a residence permit?”

Goodbye my lovers <3 Jardar Lindaas Bringedal Journalist

Translated By: Hanna Sahlström

The Studentsamfunnet General Assembly, also known as GF, is where all the big decisions are made. New regulations will be presented and discussed, and positions shall be distributed. All members of Studentsamfunnet i Ås have the right to vote both on the matter of the regulations and the enlistments. At Studentsamfunnet’s General Assembly on March 25th at 17.00 in Aud. Max (bring a student card) a total of 18 positions will be filled, and we have asked those who are stepping down about their highlights.

What we have learned:

The UKE board

10

Issue 03 Year 74

Ingrid Espnes, UKE CEO To be able to create Norway’s longest cultural festival together with a fantastic group of people. In addition, everything I have learned about myself, about collaboration and about the student society.

Oscar Mork, Revue All the hours you end up spending at Samfunnet, with lots of great people.

Hanne Tveter Åmdal, Marketing The highlight of the position was the group hug with the UKE board after the miniUKE revue. It reflects that first wonderful feeling when we knew we had pulled off UKA together.

Maylinn Dramstad, Administration To peek into a crowded Aud. Max., and scan over all the people enjoying themselves at a concert. And drinking the first drink in the liquor loop, that was also quite a highlight.

Agnes Aakre Hansen, Serving A unique opportunity to influence what you want UKA to look like! Traveling to visit the largest festival weeks in Norway to be inspired and learn. Committee managers in the serving block who became friends for life!

Tale Desserud Noer, Arrangement Obviously being involved in creating a fantastic festival, but also getting to know all the great people who live and breathe for volunteerism and the spirit here at Ås.

Lars Erik Bredesen, Sales The highlight has been getting to know so many new good people and all the collaboration we’ve done together.

Celine Da, Economy All the wonderful people I have met. They are a great inspiration, and have motivated me throughout the position.

The Business Committee at NMBU

TUNTREET Samfunnsstyret

Maria Larsen Wigestrand, Event Manager My biggest highlight has been to see how much one can achieve through good communication and good board work. I must also mention the Business Day, which went smoothly because of this.

Ane Magnussen, Leader The highlight of the position as leader has been to get to know and work with incredibly great people! Being allowed to contribute to Studentsamfunnet has been fantastic.

Nora Bakke, Head of Sponsorship To take part in creating a sponsor team for all bodies under Studentsamfunnet i Ås. Hopefully this will be something the house can benefit from for many years to come.

Lars Martin Hval, Marketing Manager The highlight must be getting to know all the nice people and working with them. There is a tremendous community spirit among people at the Student Society, which contributes to the superb environment in Ås.

Lisa Hoff Strøm, Career Day Manager Carrying out a successful Career Day with the clever board I am in! And becoming acquainted with all the nice people who work every day for Studentsamfunnet.

Inger Marie Rostad, CFO* The highlight of my position is all the good people I have had the opportunity to work with so far. The work is both rewarding socially and experience-wise, as you are challenged as a person in many ways.

* The finance position overlaps. Inger Marie does not step down now, but the position is filled by the one who will take over after Inger Marie.

Torbjørn Haugland Wistrøm, Election Committee The joy in the face of a person who wins, when you have followed them from the start when they were just beginning to consider running at GF.

Jardar Lindaas Bringedal, Editor in Tuntreet The release of each issue. To jump into something unknown, with subsequent surprises and learning curves.

Peter Hovda, Election Committee The pleasant moments with fellow committee members. Nothing compares to the community feeling you get in the election committee.

Iselin Been Simensen, Student representatives in Kjernestyret That I have been allowed to participate in developing Studentsamfunnet i Ås as an organization, and actually seeing the benefits of large investments made on the house.

Can fireplaces cure loneliness? Caroline Lensjø-Alvin Journalist

Hanna Bruun Tørnby Photographer

It’s about inclusion The results of the SHoT from 2018 show that students at NMBU feel lonely, and Samfunnet wanted to do something about this. They host peiskos as a more laidback event where people can do schoolwork, play board games, or spend time with other people. Peiskos is happening at the same time as other activities at Samfunnet, and it can be a place where people can come to take a break. Rosehagen becomes a meeting point , but so far people don’t show up. Attending Adrianna Jebrzycka was the only one who was there when Tuntreet visited the fireplace in Rosehagen. Since she knows people who are at Samfunnet, she said it was nice to have an alternative to sitting alone at home. However, she thought the event hadn’t been advertised enough. Originally, she was going to “Grill a Hannkatt” later that night, and Rosehagen was a nice place to hang out while she waited. Adrianna said she would probably spend more time there if her friends showed up as well, but on the other hand it was nice to have a calm place to work.

Samfunnet has hosted “Peiskos” in Rosehagen every Tuesday since new years as a measure to make students feel less lonely. It is a reaction to the results of SHoT last year, and Samfunnet encourages people to take advantage of the offer. The arrangement committee Out of the three people who were at peiskos, two of them were in charge of the event. As they lit the fire, they told me that no one had showed up since they started hosting the event, and that it probably was because of the time and weather. However, it is a good alternative for students who miss having a fireplace to lounge in front of. On the other hand, it can be difficult to create a cozy fireplace atmosphere when it is still light outside, and most people haven’t had dinner yet. The committee said they would probably make use of the offer if they had friends to go with, or if it was combined with other events like Tuesday-refill.

Tickets Samfunnet has been determined to have tickets at all of their events. They are trying to make events better for their members, but they don’t have tickets for peiskos because they require few resources. “We want to focus on creating a laid back event for students who need it”, the head of the arrangements committee, Ulrik Melhuus, told me. He encourages people to come to the event, or give suggestions on how the event can be improved. “We want to make an event that the students will want to take part in, and it is important for us to hear back from the students”.

Both journalist and photographer quickly  take notes  of this for future job applications.  Impeccable resources  While Lars is looking forward to starting a new chapter, he cannot hide the fact that he has enjoyed his time as a manager of Samfunnet, and he claims that it is not possible to have a better workday

But on the other hand, he was proven wrong about reaching the peak when UKA hosted Ole Ivars. “And then Sputnik came after!” He exclaims joyfully. Many may remember an overjoyed Lars introducing his dance band heroes on the Aud. Max. stage during  miniUKA, and the stars in his eyes during UKA’s “indisputable headliner concert” where Sputnik shone so strongly that they competed

Another favourite place is the costume loft, where the committee that wrote Samfunnet’s anniversary book met a few years ago. With a little raw forestrypower you can pull two of the wardrobes apart and see Samfunnet’s timeline that Lars helped make when he was a blueeyed and fresh student. He has experienced time and again that the spirit of dugnad

No one has looked more like a human version of the emoji with heart eyes than Lars Raaen in the first row, when Sputnik filled Halvors during UKA.

“If you just spend your time getting drunk in the Bodega, you’re going to miss out on so much”. Lars speaks from experience. During his time at Ås he has been to the Bodega about 594 times – way more times than he went home to visit his mother. Issue 03 Year 74

Raaen was an avid writer and had it not been for time constraints, he would probably have written all the texts himself. Since this was not possible, the editorial meetings allowed for the journalists to bring forward all types of creative ideas. It is perhaps not so strange that Lars Raaen was in the driver’s seat when the first copy of Tun and Tre was to be printed. Lars has also been a solid source of Tuntreets journalism work after his departure. If you are going to write a story on the history of Samfunnet, Lars knows what happened or knows someone who knows. In other words he has a big network within the student community at NMBU, which we will continue to make use of in the future, even though you are not sitting in the office next door. Thank you for your contribution to the 150year anniversary book about Studentsamfunnet i Ås, and for the good memories and for all the hard work you have done for the paper.

Having a person like Lars at the house has been absolutely fantastic. Lars leaving is a big loss for us and other users of Samfunnet. It is difficult to put into words how much he has meant for Studentsamfunnet, but what is certain is that he has done a lot more than was expected of anyone. Lars has not only made sure that the operation of the building has gone smoothly, he has also been an incredible resource especially for all the volunteers who vcome visiting. With the knowledge and commitment he has for student welfare and culture, he has contributed to an incredible degree, more than most people know. What we in the The Board of Samfunnet have appreciated most in the time Lars has been the manager, is the person he has been and still is. He is a humble man who knows how to appreciate the people around him, yet he is not afraid to say it when something should change. It is a real pleasure to have been allowed to work with such a talented guy as Lars. This is not a goodbye, as we believe and hope that Lars will not disappear completely from Samfunnet. Thank you so much for all the good conversations, advice, support, fun and not least the commitment and love you have for Samfunnet that has rubbed off on so many others. We miss you very much in the office wing. Greetings from the Board of Samfunnet Spring 2019, Ane, Johan, Anne Marte, Lars Martin, Marit Serianna, Ulrik og Inger Marie 16

atmosphere, and Frida’s informal talking with the audience between the songs makes it a surprisingly intimate concert. She is an experienced artist – soon there will be a 10-year anniversary for her first record – and it shows in her confidence and radiance on stage. The self-written lyrics are performed in a way that is catching, and the rich sound picture of Ove Nesheim transports us into her lyrical world. Frida makes the audience laugh with comments like: “I am always a bit worried that there is a priest in the audience” and “There is a bit of a North-Korean feel here. You’re free to go to the bar”. She also willingly tells us about boat trips with the in-laws, how scary it is to perform for kids at a secondary school, her idol Gustav Lorentzen from Knudsen & Ludvigsen, and about being gay. It is personal, fun and refreshingly real.

Tanita Guldbrandsen Journalist Ruben Rygh Photo committee

On Wednesday, the 20th of February prize winning Frida Ånnevik and company carried out a warm intimate concert in Festsalen, filled with beautiful lyrics, a nice atmosphere and many laughs between the songs. “Thank you for getting a proper concert to Samfunnet!” I hear someone say on the way to the Frida Ånnevik concert, Wednesday, the 20th of February. Whether or not this concert is more “proper” than others is up to whoever is listening. However there is no doubt that the booking committee took a chance when they booked a folk-concert on a party night. A chance that payed off!

I assumed the concert would be in Halvors, and was a bit worried when I heard it was going to be held in Festsalen. Is it really possible to fill Festsalen with a folk-concert? My worries quickly went away when I see that there is just a few available seats left, 20 minutes before the start of the concert. Some tables have also been set out, which gives a relaxed lounge-atmosphere in the large room. The other thing I notice is that the audience isn’t limited to just students, because there is also children and adults of all ages. An audience as diverse in age as this is a rare treat at Samfunnet! Refreshingly real Winner of “Spellemannsprisen” Frida Ånnevik and her two good helpers, pianist Andreas Stensland Løwe and guitarist Haldor Røyne, sneak onto the stage, and the concert begins. Thanks to good lighting, Festsalen gets a warm and cosy

Mental age = 80 years The concert is filled with both the most well-known songs, like “Søtten år”, “De dagene jeg mister ting” and “Gutt”, as well as hidden gems from her so far 5 albums. We also get to hear a single that is to be released “as soon as the winter suddenly returns, and all hope looks to be gone” – according to Frida herself. The fans can also look forward to a new album this autumn, that is filled with her interpretations of other people’s songs. “I am trying to change my writing process a little from record to record”, she says, and tells that she often ends up with a “strict diet” based on bad food and coffee when she is making new music. Frida jokes that she has the mental age of an 80 year old, and underlines this when she ends the concert by saying: “Good night everyone, now it is time for bed!” at 10:30 pm. When asked what it was like to play for the Ås-audience, Frida answers: “I was afraid I’d feel old, but it went just fine!” A welcome change of pace The audience looks to be having a great time, and the whole thing culminates with a standing ovation an hour and a half later. It was great to be able to go to a concert at Samfunnet where the music was the focus, and where the tinnitus was left out, even when sitting in the front row without earplugs. A welcome change of pace, and it seemed the citizens of the Agrarmotropole embraced this nifty variation to the program! Issue 03 Year 74

The Energy Seminar – more than solar

The spring at Ås got a real kickstart already in March with long awaited degrees above zero and sun, but most important of all – the Energy Seminar. While the sun was shining outside, energy-interested students and corporate representatives sat inside Aud Max on the 1st and 2nd of March, to gain new knowledge, get inspired and gain connections. Solveig Erga Journalist and photographer Translated By: Vegard Sjaastad Hansen

“Fossil-free prosperity” This year’s theme was “Fossil-free prosperity” and the seminar had a wide selection of public speakers that represented everything from engineering companies to hotel businesses. They represented different solutions on how we can maintain our high level of prosperity with the lowest possible negative environmental impact. It was also discussed how individuals can make an effort in everyday life and reduce our carbon-footprint connected to 18

the bigger, international picture. They discussed new technology, everything from self-driving electric cars to hydrogen fuel. The energy seminar held many inspiring presentations that had different solutions on how to save the world from environmental disaster. Not just for students in renewable energy Among the seminar-participants that were inspired was NMBUstudent Even Stokke. He does not study renewable energy, but told us that the seminar had such a wide spectre that students from most programs at NMBU could

have benefitted from it. “The presentations were very up to date and forward-thinking, and resonated with most programs, even programs like economy, agriculture and nutrition” Stokke tells us enthusiastically. He studies lecturing, and thinks that the knowledge he gained at the seminar will be priceless in a job as a teacher. “I have the opportunity to make a big difference in the world when it comes to environmental questions, just by inspiring the students in the classroom”, the student ends with a smile.

ar cells and wind power

Lecturers interrupted by mating birds The energy committee had tactically placed several tables that the participants sat around, so there was room for discussion during the breaks. The seminar had just the right length to the presentations, and contained a good number of breaks with good food and coffee refills so caffeineand blood sugar levels were kept high. It is also worth mentioning that the participants could notice that spring was afoot. At times there were mating calls from the roof so loud that the lecturers were drowned out. The sounds from the mating was luckily limited to short intervals. In addition to exciting presentations and bird calls, the seminar also contained social activities like rebus, couchconversation and a gala dinner Friday night, with a party at

Samfunnet afterwards. Leader pleased with the execution The leader of the Energy seminar 2019, Sigrid Jystad reports to Tuntreet that she is pleased with the execution of this year’s seminar. “There has been a great deal of planning, and there have been changes along the way that we have handled well”, Jystad tells us. “This year, the committee consists of a wider range of students, which is new. Students from the programs that were more aimed towards the social sciences were also in on the execution of this year’s seminar”, she continues. International focus The program on Friday was mostly aimed towards what methods and technological solutions could be used to make society more

environmentally friendly. There was also some focus on what we as individuals could do. Here the seminar had hired in former minister Kristin Halvorsen, with a presentation on what was a environmentally friendly life. The Saturday on the other hand, had a more international focus, and brought up how you can contribute to a development focused on creating a low emission society. During this part of the seminar there was a lot of focus on Africa south of the Sahara. Plant-based diet will save the climate? The lecturer on Saturday came from Deloitte with a clear message –change one’s own diet to save the climate. Here, everything from fertilizer-distribution, food-loss and soy-production abroad, to a plant-based diet was discussed. The infamous EAT report was mentioned as an important factor to limit the negative environmental impacts. The goal for the future is to cut food-loss in half and eat more plant-based. How many participants switched over to a plant-based diet afterwards is on the other hand less certain. But it was probably a wake-up call for most of the audience. Successful seminar I thought the Energy seminar would be about solar cells, wind-power and electric cars. But it brought up a lot more subjects than that, and it left me positively surprised. The lecturers were engaging and got the participants to send in questions, almost more than they had time to answer, which the moderator conveyed skillfully. All-in-all, an exciting and well executed Energy seminar. Issue 03 Year 74

TUNTREET

In these GF times This fall was the first time entrance fees were required for nonmembers of Studentsamfunnet to attend events that had previously been free to everyone. This included intimate concerts, which caused members of some of the choirs to react. This was heard by the Board of Samfunnet, and payment from non-members for intimate concerts disappeared. The question now, is how did we end up demanding money for intimate concerts in the first place, and what will happen in the future? Why were the prices adjusted? During the GF in the fall of 2017, the work plan for 2018 was presented. One of the points that was agreed on was that: “In 2018, the Board of Samfunnet will look at ways to create clearer benefits for members compared to non-members at out-of-party events.” The Board of Samfunnet was obliged to follow these guidelines, and the result was that all events that were on the semester program for Samfunnet, which had previously been free for everyone, would cost money for non-members. “There is very little you can do to make it more lucrative to be a member, except to make it less attractive to be a nonmember,”, says Ane Magnussen, current leader of Samfunnet. “You want as many people as possible to be a member of Samfunnet, and want to contribute,” she continues. However, it was not stated to the choirs that non-members had to pay when they were asked if they wanted a performance on the semester program. After a tip, the Board of Samfunnet took the initiative to organize a meeting with the leaders of all the associations, where the case was explained and questions answered. Suggestions were also submitted for guidelines on what can be included in the semester program.

«There is very little you can do to make it more lucrative to be a member, except to make it less attractive to be a non-member.» - Ane Magnussen, leader of Samfunnet 20

Guro Stjørdal Journalist

NGA, represented by Magnus Rød Hatletveit, can see the logic behind these guidelines, but believes it will be impossible for them to remain on the semester program if non-members have to pay. “Our audience is largely family, former NGAs and friends of people in the choir without any other affiliation with NMBU. These have no reason to be members of Samfunnet”, Magnus says. “The fact that we are on the semester program draws the most active students, and not so many non-members I think,” says Erik Sand from Rævne. Those who are non-members but who wish to attend their concerts are mainly potential principals, and old choir members. “It becomes a bit exclusive when concerts cost money,” says Erik. Although it becomes a little silly that old choir members have to pay to hear them sing, he believes that the intimate concerts are a decent thank you for letting them borrow rooms during the year. NGA, on the other hand, believes that large associations that also contribute in several ways should get some extra benefits. “We feel that we are contributing as an association in other ways, for example our attendance and singing on Stentor Bodegas and at revues. […] We want the intimate concerts however, to appeal to more than

just the student life in Ås » Ane believes that if you come to listen to a concert, at a house that is primarily for members, it is fair to pay 30kr. “Intimate concerts were the only thing on the semester program that Samfunnet does not really help to arrange”. Thus, it was chosen to set a price for non-members, to give a member advantage and put it in relation to Samfunnet. What should be on the semester program? During the year there will be a lot on the semester program. The goal is to have an event every single day. This was also agreed upon on the GF in the fall of 2017, where it was decided that: “During 2018, efforts

TUNTREET shall be made to ensure that Samfunnet has an activity offer every single day of the school term. [...] “. Suggested guidelines for participating in the semester program: To participate in the semester program, one of the following conditions must be met: 1. Studentsamfunnet is arranging (has costs or volunteers attached to it) 2. It is an advantage for members / expense for non-members to attend the event.

Ane says that they largely approached teams and associations to be able to fill the program. It has so far not been a problem to fill the program. “Many people want to be on the semester program, because it is a very good marketing poster”. But it can sometimes be a bit too much. “We have received feedback that there is too much happening at Samfunnet, and that things end up drowning in the flood,” she says. Therefore, it has become clear that there is a need for guidelines. This resulted in the proposals mentioned earlier.  “We understand Samfunnet’s fear that major events such as concerts and revues will drown in the ocean of smaller events,” says NGA. “It is therefore good that Samfunnet has continued to express its willingness to promote other types of events upon request”. Samfunnet wants to have events like intimate concerts at Samfunnet, as they believe it is a very nice offer, but are uncertain whether they really fit into the program. “Should events that Samfunnet really has nothing to do with, be in the semester program, which specifically says that Studentsamfunnet i Ås is organizing

this?” says Ane, but she emphasizes that things obviously can be arranged at the house. Samfunnet can share the event and promote it on Facebook and the like, even if it is not on the program. Communication with associations and members Ane admits that communication has not been as good as it could have been, but that they wish to improve it. “We want to start again with a column in Tuntreet, and a form of newsletter”, she says. What can be difficult is finding the right forum and avoiding spamming people. Erik Sand from Rævne proposes to use TV screens, like the one hanging in the Bodega, to a greater extent. Otherwise, it seems that both the Board of Samfunnet and the choirs wish to continue to have meetings every now and then, where information about cases is explained and there is the possibility for discussion.” As long as there are issues to discuss, it sounds like a good idea. Once a semester is probably often enough,” says Erik. Ane also believes that this will be a good addition to the room booking meetings they already have. Erik also suggests that the community board can become better acquainted with the association managers in a more informal way. “Two of our choir members are in the Board of Samfunnet, and it has greatly reduced my hesitance to ask what is going on.” NGA also experienced the meeting as very positive, and that the Board of Samfunnet listened to what they had to say. They say, “It’s a good initiative

on their part, as we feel that most of the conflicts we’ve had easily could have been avoided with better communication between us and Samfunnet”

Ane also emphasizes that they want to solve possible problems for both associations

and members. A simple e-mail can provide answers to most things one is wondering about. Unfortunately, there are few other venues where one can discuss issues for ordinary members of Samfunnet. “GF is a stupid channel to discuss big issues, or to give out information,” says Ane. It only takes place once each half year, and there is in addition a lot of other issues on the agenda. The Board of Samfunnet has now chosen to reintroduce a low-threshold forum where one can have a debate on the issues the Board of Samfunnet is handling. “At the ‘Beer-and-Elected-People Bodega’ that we will have next week (on Wednesday, March 13th, i.e. before this goes to print) you will be able to ask questions to all boards of Samfunnet. Tuntreet, NU, the Board of Samfunnet and UKA ». This has been practiced earlier, but since there was supposedly a lot of arguing it has not been implemented for a while. Hopefully it will now be possible to create engagement and provide the opportunity for debate, but in proper forms. Seeing that issues you vote on at GF will have an impact in the future is something that has come to the front of this case. It is not always easy to know how things will be put into practice, and when decisions are made within the Board that members disagree with, it is good to know that there are both people who speak up, and that the Board is willing to meet with them and resolve the situation. The interaction between the Board and members is important, and the initiative to improve communication will hopefully have positive consequences. We are approaching this spring’s GF, and although the work program will not be tackled again until the fall, it will nevertheless be useful to understand what is happening and familiarize oneself with the issues.

Have you ever been saved by a really good book right before your exam, or paid way too much for a book you never opened? Tuntreet wanted to find out, so we sent out a survey to the students at NMBU. The results show that many have experienced both scenarios. Get your moneys worth Do you study physics? Then you are in luck, because according to our survey the books for physics are the most used and the most cost efficient. In general, most of the books for courses at 100 level are used the most. The book for MATH111/112 is also a great buy as you can use it for two courses. Unødvendige kjøp According to the survey, the books for Exphil are a waste of money. There is a clear trend that introduction courses have bad reviews, and this might be due to the large amounts of students taking the courses. Sky High Prices We asked Tora and Thorvald what their most expensive purchases have been. The average sum was 858 kroner. The saddest purchase was MATH007, for 1000 kroner. The most expensive book was Commercial Real Estate Analysis and Investments, a textbook for EIE311 for a total of 1399 kroner. Other bad boys include textbooks for FYS101, worth 1200 kroner, and the textbooks for PHG113. Several also expresed frustration over the textbooks for BUS110, where the total price was a grand total of 1098 kroner, for two books. You do get

Unecessary changes in the syllabus Many students at NMBU have experienced an unnecessary change in the syllabus. In courses such as JUS100, GEO100, and MINA100, the syllabus changed and the new books had minor changes in them. The differences were almost unnoticeable in some of the books, but it is still required to have the newest edition. The books for JUS100 were switched out in 2018 as the previous books were too general. However, the new books were too comprehensive, something even the professor pointed out. Nyttig, men ikke pensumbok A fourth of the answers in the survey showed that students bought useful books in addition to or instead of the mandatory books. We see a trend between the student’s opinions about the books for Exphil and alternative books. Exphil på

1-2-3 is the best alternative to the mandatory books, and many state that this is the only book you need for this course. Is Boksmia the best alternative? Several students prefer to study by using PowerPoint slides from lectures, but mandatory books are a close runner up. In some courses, the lectures are so good that it isn’t necessary to buy the books, and for some courses the books are available for free online. However, the professors don’t always let the students know about this option. This results in students having to buy expensive books that also

affect the earth’s resources. Should NMBU encourage more students to read books online to protect the environment? However, most students were happy with Boksmia. 64% finds it “very good” or “good”, while only 11% say that they are unhappy with it. The discontent is mainly because they think Boksmia is too expensive. Some also point out that many of the books don’t fall under the offer in the Akademika app where you get every fifth book you buy. Others also want an alternative as they don’t have smartphones and therefore cannot download the app.

Spend your money right Many students buy their books used and save a lot of money by doing this. Others borrow the books from the library or friends, some read books online, and others buy new books. As students we know what it means to not have all the money in the world, but can we actually complain about expensive books? We made the choice to go to university, and we get scholarships that cover the expenses. However, it is frustrating to buy expensive books that feel useless, so remember to give feedback to your professors if you feel that the syllabus is not as good as it could be.

BREAK-IN AT KRONA AND VERKET Christine Copeland Journalist

A somewhat quiet Tuesday night was abruptly interrupted by an eerie message from the SiÅS: the night before, there had been a burglary. Briefly on the matter On February 5th this year, several people woke up to broken stalls and stolen assets in Verket/ Krona - Palisaden, where bicycles, jackets and alcohol were reported missing. The night before, three young men were observed in the period 01.3003.30 passing the service building by Palisaden, and stopping up at Pentagon. They are suspects in the case. It is still uncertain who they are and they have not been arrested. They have entered into buildings and through doors with breakers. Many of the assets stolen do not only have material value; they carry a value that is measured in the legal work that follows and, not least, the value in a lack of a sense of security. Even if a jacket or a bicycle can be replaced,

financial losses will be inflicted on the victims and; although locks can be fixed, the security many take for granted is replaced by a fear of repetition. It is also important to mention that such actions are punishable; It is an awful invasion of other people’s privacy to secure one’s personal gain. Left to the police The case is in the hands of the Eastern Police District. They have confirmed to Tuntreet that they are investigating the case and have received images from video surveillance in and around the scene. They are attempting to recognize some of the perpetrators. In addition, it is being investigated whether traces of missing objects can be found, which, after notification, function as possible evidence. Furthermore, they have been informed that at least two bicycles and jackets were stolen, and explain the importance of reporting what has been stolen to the police so that they can identify

the owners and find the items. Be prepared Meanwhile, SiÅs is considering introducing additional monitoring, which should act as a deterrent and make it easier to document suspicious behavior around the housing complexes. They also remind you to lock your doors. At the same time, measures are implemented among the students to prevent unwanted behavior. When so many people live together, it is difficult to spot someone who does not belong to the homes, but several seem to be familiar with the possibility of burglary. Some doors into the Palisaden are automatic, and it is also important to make sure that no unauthorized people enter the buildings.

Our home is burning

Maiken Fosse Halvorsen Journalist

Greta Thunberg is like many of us; a frustrated youth who is worried about the future and tired of passive politicians and leaders who fail to make necessary decisions. She is one of us who has understood that global warming is not a small wave that we, if we only have a board, can surf on until it dies out. The climate crisis is nothing new We know this. We’re discussing it with our friends, complaining about it, maybe sharing a Facebook post about it, or signing a campaign. Greta did something we hadn’t done. She went out, sat down in front of the Swedish parliament and demanded a change. She skipped school for three weeks until the Swedish election, because she had had enough of nothing being done. Because she thinks the problem cannot be solved with talk. You have to act. One must simply go “take drastic measures”

30 Issue 03 Year 74

Ina Kristine Rykkelid Illustrator

School strike After Greta Thunberg started the school strike in August, the news about the demonstration has spread around the world. There have been massive school strikes in Sweden, Belgium, the UK, Australia, the Netherlands and many more. We are talking thousands of students, from elementary school to universities, with banners and loud voices that have marched in the streets, stopped traffic and sparked a fire in many souls. This movement is far from finished. It has just begun. March 15th is the global day of action, and 500 school strikes (!) in 51 countries. Our dear neighbour; Sweden, the country where Greta started it all, has registered 94 events alone. Not everyone thinks that school strikes are a good idea. The Prime Minister of Australia, for example, is not a fan and stated in a conference that “We do not support kids not going to school, to participate in things that can be dealt with outside of school”. It does not seem like he has realized that it

Translated By: Ingrid Tangvik

is precisely for this reason that youth are striking. Because it is NOT taken care of. At least far from adequately. It is not only the “white men pushing 50” who are sceptical of school strikes. There are some who find it strange that fighting global warming is done by not attending school. Since striking itself has no direct impact on the environment. That boycotting learning, which is something that can help us to reach the goal, seems a little hypocritical. I see the point, and there are many other ways to protest, but can you think of something equally powerful? Because even though education can give us a good job, an increase of 2 degrees Celsius will certainly not give us an equally cool life. To the barricades! There are many clear signs that climate change is in full swing. Take for instance the latest insect-death reports, showing that 40% of all insect species are in decline and one

TUNTREET out of three are red-listed. Whether you like insects or not, this should worry everyone, because insects are the heart of all the food chains. No insects, no animals, no people. We produce more CO2 than the plants in the world can manage to convert back to O2, while cutting down areas of rainforests the size of football fields in under one minute. There is a lot that is not going in the right direction these days. A lot has actually gone in the wrong direction for quite some time. Again, I will quote Greta Thunberg, because she is so good at saying it as it is. “I think people are pretty

strange, especially when it comes to the sustainability crisis, where everyone keeps saying climate change is an existential threat and the most important issue of all. And yet, they just carry on like before.” It is a little weird. The vast majority know what is happening. You keep up with the news, and global warming is nothing new. Nor is it fake news. It’s just such a wildly big problem, it stretches across the globe. It is difficult to feel responsibility, because 7.7 billion other people also have the same responsibility.

I think the most important thing you can learn from Greta is that you don’t have to be an adult, a politician, important nor rich to make a difference. What you have to do is act. “Don’t just talk the talk, walk the walk.” Join the strike and demonstration in Ås on March 15th, join the strike in Oslo on March 22nd, or do something completely different. It’s time to take

When I was 16, I was raped. As I was growing up, I was told how long my skirt should be. It was explained to me how the rape was my fault. I was told that I looked like a slut. I have experienced that people often take their freedoms. The basis of all this, is that I have been viewed as an OBJECT.

react so strongly to this word? Why am I dedicating several days of my life towards the “object” campaign? Am I really just an incompetent feminist who is overreacting?

Yes, I refer to myself as a feminist. No, I do not mean that I have suffered all my life because I am a woman, or that there is discrimination wherever Some time has passed since the I go in Norway. But I do believe wooden dick was chopped off that we need to realize that there are and posters were plastered all over several unfair differences and social campus. it does prove that their argument does hold any weight. In addition, they also try to talk about who this word is about, but it is simply too weak. Stand for what you say or cut it out. Or, please just stop that shit either way. I had never imagined when I came to NMBU that I would have to fight a women’s case from 1902. I see myself and all the women around me as so much more than objects and believe that such a wording pushes us all down and encourages people to continue treating us as objects. I urge the Student Democracy to firmly address this issue, because it doesn’t seem like the Hannkatts will change on their own. I also encourage associations and you as a student to distance yourselves from this type of behaviour. Thank you. Greetings from #amIanobject? Issue 03 Year 74

TUNTREET Two Beers

with Ane Magnussen

-I’ve never been afraid to say yes to opportunities

In this Two Beers we will get better acquainted with Ane Magnussen, soon outgoing leader of Samfunnet i Ås. Ane is engaged on alarmingly many fronts, and she admits that at times there have been too many balls in the air at the same time. After spending an afternoon with her, it became clear to me how she manages, namely because of her genuine wish to give something back to Samfunnet, so that other people can have fun. 32 Utgåve 03 Årgang 74

TWO BEERS Hedda Jørgensen Journalist

“I am boring”  I met up with Ane with a mixed feeling of fear and joy. The week before I had sent her a message soliciting a list of former positions and other general facts about her background. The message I got back was longer than the last article I wrote for Tuntreet. Naturally, we were to meet at Samfunnet,  the place where she spends  most  of her time, both when partying and for work. In contrast to my expectations, Ane started our conversation by telling me that she considers  herself  as boring. “In my free time I am either at Samfunnet, with friends, or with my boyfriend. I don’t do much else besides that,” she said frustrated, and I soon understood that she imagined that nobody would bother reading this month’s Two Beers.  Raised with the community spirit  When Ane talks about her childhood and her parents, I quickly understand where her engagement comes from. When her mother wrote her last exams, Ane was in her belly, so the student spirit has been with her from the very beginning. Her parents also taught her the importance of dugnad (communal work), and they both have occupied higher positions within culture and sports and been driving forces in voluntary work. Even though she was born in Bergen, she emphasizes that she is not a bergenser (person from Bergen). When Ane was nine months old, the family moved to Asker, where they lived until Ane started school. After this, Ane lived in Bryne outside Stavanger until she moved to Ås to study. Throughout her entire  childhood,  she has been active in sports, especially swimming,

which eventually became a job. For almost ten years, she was a swimming instructor, but she had to quit this job when she started up as leader last year. “Quitting my instructor job was sad, because I liked it so much.”  All options open  One of the reasons why Ane chose to study in Ås was that she had heard about how easy it is to change between the various study programs. This was important to her, because she has always liked to keep all options open. While sitting in the board of the Business Committee at NMBU and taking the now discontinued course Students in leadership, Ane did a personality test with a psychologist. He wanted to look at how leadership skills and personality are associated. As a result, the psychologist told her to figure out what she wants to do. This was a message she needed to hear, but Ane has still not made a plan of what to do next. Ane is more concerned with living in the present, and rather let the path reveal itself as she walks. “I have eventually learned that there is a balance between taking on too many tasks, and being bored,” she says.  Collegium Alfa  The other main reason why Ane ended up in Ås was the infamously good student environment.  In his student days, her father had been in Ås during a choir weekend, and could confirm that the student environment in Ås was something special. She was convinced, and brought her boyfriend Erlend with her to Ås. It didn’t take long before she found her place here. A half year after arriving, Ane

engaged in Ås’ world of student groups and associations, more specifically Collegium Alfa. Three years in the sorority have left her with many good friends and experiences, both academically and socially. It was with the sorority backing her that she dared to run for election for the Business Committee at her first GF (General Assembly). The position gave her a taste for more and made her run for the position as leader of Samfunnet at GF almost a year ago.  Wise words from Grimenes  Freshly out of high school and right into Realtek as a first year student, Ane remembers well the advice she got from associate professor Grimenes: “A good student studies hard, remembers to party from time to time, and knows that the lost sleep can be found again when she’s retired.” She took these words seriously, “but more time is spent at Samfunnet than across the street,” she laughs and nods toward the TF block. She admits that she is better at being a student than at actually studying. She spends most days doing everything but studying, and she reckons that the time spent at Samfunnet during a week is equivalent to at least a normal full time job.  Scared to be bored  Because Ane uses so much of her time at Samfunnet and in other positions, she has little time to get bored. Her time as a leader is starting to run out, and Ane is beginning to worry about how she will fill her days when it is over. “The main reason why I’ve taken on so much responsibility is that I’ve never Issue 03 Year 74 33

TWO BEERS been afraid to say yes to opportunities. But another factor is that I am scared to be bored, and I hate being alone,” she says with a twinkle in her eye. Therefore, when summer comes she is not planning to slow down the tempo. Ane has always been bad at relaxing, and she remembers the time her friends gave her a gift card for a spa treatment - a subtle hint that she should calm down. “The gift card was very welcome in my stressful daily life, it is one of the best gifts I have ever received,” Ane says and smiles. There is no doubt that she has many good friends who take care of her and are watching over her, “sometimes they send me messages to remind me to eat, sleep and relax because I sometimes forget it myself,” she laughs. “I am a bit scared of what will come up when my friends write about me. I am pretty sure that Erlend will say that I am too little at home.”  Motivation  After having talked to Ane for a while, I get curious about where she finds the motivation to take on so much responsibility. The answer couldn’t be simpler: “I enjoy being involved, I like the possibilities I have to make a difference. The most important motivation I have is seeing people enjoy themselves, and being able to experience the good results when they come. My goals for the management is to make it possible for others to learn, develop their interests and have fun.” She clearly has not taken on the positions to get committee perks or to savour the power. Quite contrarily, Ane thinks that everyone else are doing the important jobs. She gives the honour of the good work done at Samfunnet to all the other volunteers, who she believes deserve all the praise directed at her. Despite her different positions 34 Issue 03 Year 74

and being the leader of Samfunnet, Ane is not a big fan of praise or attention coming her direction.  Final stage  As a leader, she is also aware of the responsibility of the job.  After all, Samfunnet i Ås has almost three thousand members who want to have fun several times a week. She feels this responsibility particularly in the security case going on at the moment, which she wrote about in this year’s first issue of Tuntreet. Shortly explained, the case is about a new requirement of 80 hours of training, instead of the current 25 hours, for security guards at places like Studentsamfunnet. If this is implemented, Samfunnet most probably will have to hire external guards. This case has brought Ane to several meetings with the Police Directorate, and lastly to the Department of Justice. This remains an important experience

that she will bring with her onwards, despite the seriousness of the case. She also considers this the final stage before becoming outgoing leader after the next GF.  After spending some hours with Ane I am impressed at how humble and honest she is, despite the impressive CV she has developed during her study years. Even though it might be both scary and sad to leave her leader position at Samfunnet, I think Ane has more than enough with which to fill her time. After having spent so much time letting the rest of us have fun, I hope she can continue to have fun in other positions. No matter what happens, I doubt that she will have a lot of time to be bored or relax.

TWO BEERS

“I can do it.” And since then, she has contributed, taken responsibility and gotten all the positions coming her direction. If you think we are exaggerating, check out this list: Leader of Samfunnet, leader of Collegium Alfa and simultaneously sponsor responsible in NU (Business Committee), arranged Ernergiseminaret and Fremtidsfestivalen, Design & Layout in Tuntreet, web responsible for Tannhjulet, treasurer in Collegium Alfa, swimming instructor, research committee and ReDU, to mention some. Still, the wildest part is that she is always social and manages to be a good friend. You can count on her if you need a helping hand, somebody to talk to or just share the silence with on the sofa one night. Ane has never lived in a flat with us, but when three new people moved into the flat, about a month passed before they understood that Ane in fact did not live there. She is a girl with grit who gives of herself to the people she cares about. For better or for worse she puts others before herself, which at times has resulted in us having to feed her and tell her to go to bed. This ambitious girl will be something big one day! And we get incredibly inspired having you as our best friend. We love you infinitely and look forward to a whole life of yearly pizza weekends in Bryne <3

For Ane There is no doubt that Ane is one the most dedicated people we know, being there for us and our dear studentsamfunn at all hours of the day and night. If the reason is one glass of red becoming five or just because of many hours in the Samfunnet office, it is not unusual that a mail from Ane ticks into the inbox at 03:40 at night. Maybe we could ask ourselves whom she prefers spending the night with, Handsome Erlend or the Samfunnet office. Maybe this is how the rumours that Ane wants to call her children Thorvald and Tora originated. Ane brings a lot of life and fun to samfunnsstyret (the Samfunnet board), while steering the ship with a steady hand. With her burning engagement and big heart she makes sure that everything is going well both for Studensamfunnet and for us, and this is something we appreciate enormously. It is an honour to be part of your board, Oh great leader. Even though you cringe on the inside every time we call you Oh great leader or BOSSYBOSS (SJÆFESJÆF), this is just our way of saying that we love you. Greetings from Samfunnsstyret

your

gang,

Ane and I met six years ago in high school, and have been together ever since. I knew from day one that this was a girl worth holding on to – and therefore it was not difficult to tail after her from Stavanger to Ås. Ane has an engagement and tenaciousness one simply can watch and admire from a distance. Most people would have said no thanks to such a busy daily life, but Ane could not have gone without it. With Ane it is all or nothing; running from meeting to meeting, or sprawled out in a star-shape in the sofa for hours watching everything from Sims videos on YouTube to Heimebane, where the latter activity mostly ends with her falling asleep, her phone in her hand with the Samfunnet mail open. After six years with Ane, both as a boyfriend and during a period engaged together at Samfunnet, I have gotten to know her really well. She is a caring person who wants everyone around her to feel good. She takes responsibility seriously and follows the saying “honesty is the best policy”. I cannot be anything but proud about the great person she is and everything the does. Greetings from the guy at home

Pasta with a flaw? Anne Tove Græsdal Våge Journalist, hobby cook and photographer

Translated By: Ingrid Tangvik

Italian evening filled with pasta, pesto and wine at Vitenparken. In the few articles I, Anne Tove, have written for Tuntreet, I have admitted among other things that I can’t make coffee. Something that defines me pretty well as a person. In this article I come with another fact; I have a love for Italian food. For that reason, I attended a pasta course, which was like a dream. The first thing I noticed as I entered the room was the Italian music playing softly in the background. The course leader, Hafteinn Snæland, presented himself and explained what the course would contain. We got a handout sheet with the recipes and prepared ourselves to start. Snæland demonstrated how to make the pasta dough, and then it was our turn. To my surprise it started out with only four other course takers. There came one more halfway through that had gotten the time wrong. It was the perfect number of participants, who were very nice people I got to know a bit. Amongst others there was one that had previously been the editor of Tuntreet when he went to NMBU, so there was enough to talk about during the evening.

Ingredients (2 portions): 200 g tipo 00 flour 2 eggs Mixing the two ingredients together for the pasta dough was harder than what I imagined. I had of course done some research on this subject beforehand, but it looked so easy when the people on YouTube did it, in contrast to when I had to make it myself. First, we had to make the flour into a “volcano”, meaning that we had to make a hole in the middle, and put the eggs in. Furthermore, we only had a fork to mix it with. We then kneaded the dough by hand. My eggs were mixed in well to begin with, but then slowly but surely, they started sliding out on the bench. After managing to save the dough, it was kneading time. The kneading could take anything from five to 20-30 minutes, depending on how the dough was. After the doughs were finished, they had to rest for 30 minutes. While we waited,

Gnocchi we learned to cook various other Italian dishes, including gnocchi. If you do not know what gnocchi is, is it a pasta dish made from potatoes. You mix cooked potato with the ingredients for the pasta dough, plus parmesan and potato flour. It was here the only mistake of the evening was made. Not that I wanted to call it a mistake, since there can never be too many potatoes, but the number of potatoes was incorrectly calculated. So when there was supposed to be 300g of potatoes in the mix, it became 1400g. The only thing I could do was increase the other ingredients. In other words, the resulting amount of pasta or gnocchi was more than enough. You mix cooked potato with the ingredients for the pasta dough, plus parmesan and potato flour.

Flour volcano with egg 36 Issue 03 Year 74

Before we got to know how to cook the dish, it was time to cook the pasta itself. We were shown how to roll out the dough with

the pasta machine, and then how to make the different pasta types. When cooking pasta there is two things one has to think about. First, the water should be salty. Actually, more than you think. And second, for God’s sake do not use oil. I myself have never used oil when I cook the pasta, but it is a tradition among Norwegians to do it. The reason for this is that the sauce does not bind to the pasta because of the oil, which will make the sauce roll off the pasta.

dinner, made by a chef, is probably a dream for most people. It was difficult to control oneself when dishes on dishes with lovely pasta were being put together. Amongst others, there was served gnocchi with butter, sage and parmesan, spaghetti carbonara, ravioli and tagliatelle with pesto sauce.

To sum up the evening, it was filled with fresh conversation, fresh food and I strongly recommend to go to a pasta course As a student, getting a six-course pasta at Vitenparken.

Animalistic lusts in the greenhouse

The smell of wet grass and melting snow hit her when she opened the door. The rainfall had washed the garden and left small puddles on the lawn. A couple of crocuses had begun to shoot up in the sunnier spots in the flowerbed, and she knew that the coltsfoot was not far off. The drops on the greenhouse at the far side of the garden twinkled in the sun, and in the distance she could see a multicoloured ribbon in the sky bend above the fields. Behind the clouds, the sky is always blue, she thought happily.

at her with an intense gaze that soon travelled down her body. She wasn’t worried. She still looked good, and she knew that her curves had made more than one head turn on the street. Now she was happy that she had put on a low-neck top, because his eyes stopped at her bulging breasts pressing against the fabric. “What do you say?” she said excitedly. “Oh, yes!” he said enthusiastically, before he closed the greenhouse door behind him and pulled her against him in one powerful motion.

Inside the greenhouse, the flower bulbs were waiting patiently to be planted in their respective pots. She found the heavy bag of soil, and with a great effort lifted it up onto the bench. She should have planted the tulip bulbs in the autumn, but had completely forgotten. Now she had to hurry up and plant them before spring arrived in full bloom. With everything that had happened the last few months it was nice to finally have some time to tend to her greenhouse again. She could not believe that Reidar had finally moved out. The signed divorce papers had arrived in the mail this morning, and when she realised that she was a free woman, she was shocked by how horny she suddenly felt. It was an eternity since the last time she and Reidar had had sex, and even then it was mechanical and boring. Now she was yearning for a passionate man who could take –

His big hands slid eagerly over her body, and she couldn’t hold in her whimper of delight when his lips caressed her neck. Oh my god, it was so long ago since anyone had touched her in this way. His warm tongue played with her sensitive neck, and she felt his strong arms tighten as he lifted her up on the workbench. Pots and flower bulbs scattered in all directions, and the workbench slightly creaked under her. He ripped open her blouse, and while she took off her bra, he jerked off his uniform. She pulled the delicious pizza delivery boy towards her, and felt his warm skin against hers. Her lips found his, and when his tongue forced its way into her mouth, she felt the heat spread between her legs.

“Did you order pizza?” she suddenly heard from the doorway, and she let out a scared shout when the dark voice interrupted her lovely train of thought. ”Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you!” the stranger said apologetically. “Nobody answered when I rang the bell, and then I saw you out here and just figured I should get the pizza delivered.” Pizza? What on earth? “I haven’t ordered any pizza!” she sputtered, as adrenaline rushed through her body. Who was this man, daring to barge into her greenhouse like that? “I’m sorry, but I was told to deliver a pizza to this address. Card or cash?” His sharp tone woke something in her. Maybe I get to try out my freedom at once, she thought and felt her entire body tingling. His dark eyebrows lifted when she studied him from top to toe. His uniform did little to hide his muscular shoulders, and the thought of how his beard would feel on the inside of her thighs made her purr inside. He had to be in the middle of his twenties, maybe one of the students from the neighbouring town. She walked a step closer. “Uhm, did you want to pay with card or cash?” he said unsurely. She stretched out her hand and their fingers touched when he gave her the pizza box. “I have a different suggestion,” she purred before putting the box on the workbench and sneaking closer to him. He looked at her with big eyes when he realised what she was suggesting. “Seriously?” She nodded calmly with a cheeky smile, and answered,“If you want, of course.” He looked 38 Utgåve 03 Årgang 74

He lifted her skirt, and she felt a couple of coarse fingers glide up her thigh until they found the lace trim of her panties. His beard tickled, and she spread her legs before grasping a pot to not break down when she felt his wet tongue lick her through the wet lace lingerie. “Mmm, you are soaking wet.” His dark voice spellbound her, and she willingly lifted her butt when he pulled off her panties. Then she realised that anyone could peek into her garden, and then they would see – his warm tongue penetrated her, and all other thoughts vanished. She moaned loudly and his fingers dug into her hips to keep her steady as he gave her cunnilingus of the most approved fashion. She felt her orgasm wasn’t far away, but before she exploded, he stopped. The pizza boy unbuttoned his pants and swiftly pulled out the most delicious cock she had ever seen. While he masturbated his already stiff penis, she slid off the workbench and licked her lips. She had to taste this masterpiece. But before she managed to close her lips around his pole, he grabbed her, turned her around, bent her over the workbench and spread her legs. She gasped out of both shock and joy when she felt him rubbing his rock-hard cock against her wet vulva. All the steam on the glass walls of the greenhouse made it impossible to see neither in nor out, and the smell of soil mixed with the unmistakeable scent of sex. “Take me,” she moaned animalistically, and he obeyed. With a strong thrust, he penetrated her and filled her to the brim. She screamed, and before she could collect herself, he had pulled out and then quickly filled her again. The tempo increased, and for every thrust, she was getting closer.

When his fingers started to play with her clit, she could no longer hold back, and the orgasm washed over her like a tsunami. Not long after she heard and felt him exploding inside her, and her muscles milked each drop out of him. He collapsed on top of her, and breathed heavily into her ear. Lærken praised highly by the audience Jane Bergan Journalist

Kimberly van der Meer Photographer Translated By; Magnus Horgen Rekkedal

February 18th Sangkoret Lærken hosted an intimate concert in CaféKlubben. The venue was packed and the expectations were high, and NMBU’s songbirds did not disappoint. From the beginning we are treated to both song and show when the choir comes singing up the stairs, wearing different types of headdresses, varying from underwear, and plastic ducks to captain’s hats and top hats. The new members of the choir were introduced and the

40 Issue 03 Year 74

tone for the evening was set. The songs about long johns, and the world championship in cross country skiing, where Petter Northug tricks Swedish skiers, were well received by the audience. What came after were songs about several different things; we were treated to a imaginative story of how the choir had to eat bananas because a Samí gave them away, a lovely revived song from 2012, and an old song from one of their revues

about their yearly trip to Røros. You might think that this was the evenings high point, but after the audience insisted, they performed an extra number about how emotional and lovely the board game Ludo can be. All in all this was a really nice experience, and as someone who has never been to a concert with any of the choirs at NMBU, it is something I wholeheartedly recommend.

Song, flowers, beer and a personal wish for hypogamy. The mood is set and Pikekoret IVAR wishes us a warm welcome to an intimate evening at CaféKlubben. Stair climbing and top shape! The time is approaching 20.00, and I have planned to be at CaféKlubben a couple of minutes before the concert starts to plan out how to do it. I go up the stairs to to meet the photographer. When I reach the top I realize that I have taken a wrong turn and ended up on the stage in front of a jam-packed CafeKlubben. I think to myself “I am glad I am not the one standing here this evening”. I make use of the old trick of picturing the audience naked, but unfortunately the room is full of Rævnekarer.

Farewell and goodbye IVARinnene finish the concert with “Waterloo” before they retire to their prosecco-filled chambers with a man on each side. Rumours and social media has it that the party continued at IVARinn, but I went home with the feeling that Can Talerinnen (the the choir-life has a bit more to offer Speechress) toast, can Skålerinnen than the brutal existence of a Realtek (the Toastress) speak? student. We are presented with a song before the Skålerinne (Toastress) and the Talerinne (Speechress) wish us welcome to the evening’s soirée. We are also informed that there are six new members of the choir and that they will be joining in on some of the songs. I reflect back on my near death experience at the top of the stairs and my grip around the glass of beer tightens slightly. Wine and food for the date Translated By: Ingrid Tangvik

You have invited the dream boy / girl over on a date at your place, but what should you serve? And not least, what do you drink with it? The classic choice for romantic evenings is usually wine, but for those who never drink wine otherwise, and do not know what suits the food, it can quickly cause a bit of worry. Here I will give a few tips for classic simple dishes, with some slightly untraditional wines to accompany them. These wines are more suited to those who are unfamiliar with wine and do not like the strong dry wines often recommended. The most classic date dinner has got to be be steak, preferably presented with some form of potatoes and a tasty sauce. Here, the most traditional choice will be a form of strong French wine, but it is often not for wine rookies. A better alternative might then be this Argentine Malbec. It has everything needed to go well with the steak but is much rounder and milder in flavour. It also has a lot of different tastes, including vanilla. The wine is a bit more towards the sweeter side, so some fresh accessories such as tomatoes are a must. Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec, 160 kr Who doesn’t love pizza? Pizza is a safe choice and you can adjust with an infinite number of variations. In the previous article I recommended Barbera. This is also a wine that suits the pizza perfectly, but for a date I would probably have taken a step up to a more full-bodied wine that might impress a little more. I have chosen a Chianti, which is also an Italian wine, but it is a bit fuller. I would opt for stronger toppings on the pizza, like beef or mushrooms. Brolio Chianti Classico, 175 kr Does one or both of you not eat meat? Or do you just want to eat something light to be more fit for any possible activity after the food? No problem. I have based this wine on baked and stuffed sweet potato, but it also fits other dishes with root vegetables. Vegetarian food can often be difficult to match with a wine, especially with less expensive ones. This wine is also both organic and biodynamic, so here you score good hipster points as a bonus. If this becomes too expensive or too special, you can never go wrong with a prosecco. Wimmer-Czerny Fumberg Grüner Veltliner, Issue 03 Year 74 42 210 kr

PODCAST

Periods: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly You don’t really remember what a period is? Or have you forgotten what guys think about it? Here is a little recap with Klamma with Anna, topic: periods. Many honestly do not know what a period is. Did you know, for example, that the uterus lining is built up to receive an egg, and that that lining is what you bleed out? It is not just an egg that comes out, as some people think. We both agreed that the pain that accompanies periods is the worst. Everything from stomachaches, to our thighs feeling like they are going to burst. The tips for this were the best we came up with. It is not always easy when everyone experiences it individually but taking a couple of paracets or a prox (which helps especially against period pain) works very well. The best thing was to start with the pill. It significantly suppresses the pain for the majority, and for others, it disappears completely. Working out or complaining a bit can also help. The guys have a few different thoughts, but Anna’s three guy friends don’t mind that much when it comes to sleeping with girls on their period. They have tried it, and one friend thought he had cut the lady he was having sex with his penis. They also think it’s okay to talk about periods and respond happily with the experiences they have had.

Well, Maja really went from not liking periods, especially at the start of the episode, to not being bothered over it. The latter is correct, but it can be a little stressful, as you have to be extra aware. It is important to have in mind what you are wearing, like not putting those white trousers at risk. At the same time, you have to actually remember that you are on your period, so that the tampon doesn’t stay in too long. This is where the menstrual cup comes in and it is brilliant! Anna, however, she hates it and thinks it’s disgusting. Bleeds through during spinning and skips as often as she can, even though it is one of the most natural things in the world, and allows us to have children. Of course, the reward is nine full months without your period, while pregnant Do you have anything you still wonder about? Criticism or praise? Send us a message on our Facebook page, Klamma med Anna, or leave a note in the Tuntreet post box. Of course, all questions and messages remain anonymous. It is a great pleasure for us to be back, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Hugs from Anna and Maja

Better Price has since August 2016 sold surplus food in downtown Ås, but after a rough patch they are closing their doors for good. The store was open for a few weeks with 50% discount on leftover wares until Monday March 4th, which was their last opening day. What is going to show up next in the shop location is not known, but maybe it will be of both the good smelling and good tasting kind? From surplus food to Asian cuisine After starting a store based on exclusively selling food that would otherwise be tossed away, Better Price expanded both in selection and size. In May of 2018, Margrete Fjordholm took over as shopkeeper, and the business changed name to “New Better Price”. The sale of foods with short expirationdate continued as before, and in addition wares bought from small independent businesses were also sold. Fjordholm tells us that it has been rewarding work to be able to promote local suppliers, and mentions that the store has among other things sold eggs from Moer Gård (run by the egg-farmer with the appropriate name Ole Egge), honey from Gusrud Gård and vegtables from local businesses. She tells us that it has been fun to get to know the people in Ås, and can tell that the relationship with the costumers has been good.

been part of the selection for a long time, were suddenly impossible to get a hold of, and with a smaller supply the selection of “best before”products was reduced. Purchasing from large vendors like Asko and Verdimat is very costly per unit, unless one buys pallets of the same ware at a time. This does not work for independent stores. An attempt was therefore made to expand the concept of New Better Price to include food from the far corners of the earth.

Small businesses and stores are being pushed out of the market by bigger companies is a well known problem, and with difficult deals that first and foremost benefits bigger companies Took a risk one had to think of something new. There may be more reasons that To offer niche-wares that is not sold it ended as it did for Better Price, in the big stores can be a solution, and Fjordholm does not deny the and with a bestow grant, New Better possibility that they missed their Price went forward to sell different clientele with the Asian selection. baking goods.

“We tried a new concept with more Asian foodstuffs, but 70% of the costumers in this store are Norwegian, of which most of these are older, so we took a chance” she Gradually the deal with Asko, one tells us. “With decreasing sales we of the suppliers of the “best before”- ended up on a slippery slope where products, became more and more the possibilities of making new demanding. Foodstuffs that had purchases for the store was greatly

reduced.”

The fight against food-waste is still important Every year huge amounts of food are thrown away in Norway, and to sell surplus food at a discount is a relatively new concept. At the same time there has been a gradual change in attitude among consumers. While it was common before to

Past and future? Maybe baked goods will be next big thing at Moerveien 6.

throw away most things as soon as the expiration date passed, more and more people say that they more rarely throw away food just because it has expired. The food-surplus stores probably have a share in the credit, since they have contributed to teaching the consumers that it is definitively possible to use wares after their expiration date. Since the store at the time of closing was well into it’s third year, there is a good deal of students that cannot remember Ås without Better Price. For many the fact that the store closes comes as a bit of a shock, and even though many want to base their grocery shopping on expired goods both because of environmental and economical reasons, it is often easier to stick to old habits. Fjordholm underlines that she thinks it is great that the “best before” concept has gained more traction, and that people have gotten better at caring less about expiration dates. The fact that most people are more interested in these types of goods is absolutely understandable.

A new start? In the alternative food store’s closing time there have been many pleasant comments, and Fjordholm can tell us that many will take notice when the store disappears. The question of what is going to happen to Moerveien 6, she cannot answer, but it is clear that there is a hope for something exciting that can create some buzz in downtown Ås – preferably not another lawyer- or

Sometimes it seems like the universe is playing a small prank, because while the conversation with Fjordholm comes to an end, it just so happens that someone walks in that just might know what could happen now that New Better Price disappears. This unexpected person, Ellina Zelenkova, is in on running a home-bakery that is trying to expand. The bakery is situated at Sørhellinga (the place, not university building) in Vestby where they offers different desserts, bread and sweets. It is explained that since there is so much of the same in bakeries across the land, the idea is to create variation in the Norwegian baking-world by offering unique bake-goods that one usually finds elsewhere. It is also hinted that there are student-friendly prices, which can get any bake-goods loving heart to beat a bit faster. Anyways, only time will tell just what will make an appearance, so we cannot do anything but wait and see.

It was unfortunately not easy to coordinate a meetup with varying opening hours. Issue 03 Year 74 45

The childhood kitchen is dead –Long live the adult kitchen Translated By: Magnus Horgen Rekkedal

One day you will move out of the shared student flat and get your own place, with a kitchen all to yourself. However, if you are planning to combine this with a life partner I got some bad news. The kitchen is already dead. Kaja Mie Botnen Journalist and Illustrator

No to infectious layers of fat As your eyes wander the stuffed countertops and linoleum floor while searching for the cheese slicer or as you try to cut a red pepper with a knife that is equally dull on both sides, it helps to fantasize about the dream kitchen you will have one day; the kitchen where the fridge is stuffed with all the good stuff, the countertops are clean, and the utensils are intuitively placed. The cutlery drawer and the garbage cans will of course be located in the right place, and the non-stick frying pans will be in mint condition. The knives are razor sharp, there is no infectious layer of fat on the fan, and you are comfortable with touching the kitchen cloth. Maybe you will have a cheeky pot on the counter in which to put the frying pan utensils? Or maybe you will finally be rid of the damn pot and have a stylish minimalist kitchen? Oil and water Maybe you are also thinking about sharing this kitchen with a future partner and family, with whom the dynamic is a beautiful symbiotic interaction and the day-to-day operation of the kitchen runs like clockwork. That is how it was while you were growing up right? This is where it all goes wrong. The moment you left home and moved into the dreadful shared kitchen you forfeited the opportunity to combine family with the dream kitchen. Love and kitchen is like oil and water, at

46 Issue 03 Year 74

best they emulsify if you stir continually. Waiting in vain? A family typically consists of a number of adults who get and raise a number of children. These children take their sweet time growing up, and while they are doing so, an intense struggle wages between the parents’ kitchen practices. After all, they entered the relationship with different opinions and by the time the children have grown old enough to ponder over these things, the grown-ups have made so many compromises that a totally new kitchen has been created. The children –we –grow up in a kitchen were everything is a given, and do not think about it before we move into our new shared kitchen. We go into shock and cease to buy nice things while waiting to move to a better place where the non-stick pans are not treated like cutting boards and where the cheese slicer no longer disappears into a black hole of drawers. It can only get better, right? The ideal kitchen is a lie When we are done studying we often move into another shared flat, but this one is a little nicer. Things are going the right way, and the dream of once again having the kitchen of our childhood is keeping us going. One day we will get there. We will meet the one, and when the time is right invest in a house, renovate it and eventually start using the kitchen –the circle is complete. The terrible truth, however, is that there is no universally agreed upon placement for cutlery. I do not wish to scare you, but many kitchens do not even have the garbage bins underneath the sink and the people living there view this as something perfectly normal. The ideal kitchen is a lie, the reality is chaotic and cold.

The circle of life We are back to what we never picked up on, the grown-up’s year-long covert bickering and the uninventable compromises that follow. When we have finally agreed, we have to teach it all to our children, who are surprisingly similar to your former flatmates. They use forks in the non-stick frying pan and magically make the cheese slicers disappear. The layer of fat over the fan is just the same and you have to clean it yourself because grown-ups are responsible for the cleaning week every week. You cannot even seek refuge in your parent’s kitchen, because you have changed so much that it is no longer right for you. Two choices This leaves us with two choices. We can choose to live alone from the moment we can afford it and enjoy the kitchen of our childhood once more. After all you avoid living with people who leave the cutting board, do not wash pans after use, teach their children to leave bottles on the counter or –god forbid –wash the kitchen cloth in hot water. Most people, however, find it hard to sacrifice sharing their life with another. This leaves us with only one option: We must accept defeat and realise that the dream is dead, the kitchen is gone and the tragedy is a fact. Your childhood kitchen is gone forever. We are left with the adult kitchen, a mutant of compromises and half-assed solutions. We have to dry our tears and start buying non-stick pans once more. Before you start adding your kitchen preferences to your Tinder-bio, I will leave you with the words of André Bjerke, good luck. Go into the big world Become hard and cold and clear But hide away somewhere in your heart The memory of what you once were - André Bjerke, Tapt Paradis

Preaching Pries Blessed and treacherous is the thirst The human is a unique animal. Yes, we are related to other mammals. In many ways we are similar to apes. We have the same origin. Together we are a part of nature. Humans are different, however. We have surpassed the apes. We dominate the earth. We are consuming and overconsuming it. We rule over plants, animals, and the earth. We rule and rule. Humans are unique creatures, for better or for worse. We can achieve the impossible. We keep on breaking new barriers. Science and research are our trademarks. However, humans also have a dark side. We wage war and kill. We exploit. We suppress. We want to decide and dominate. Blessed is the thirst. What does it mean? It means that there is something confounding and miraculous about the human being. Humans represent something else. Treacherous is the thirst. This is familiar! Thirst can turn on humanity and become dangerous and destructive. Thirst can lead humanity astray. A human thirsts. It is all about finding something that can satisfy this thirst. I believe our thirst is a sign. What makes a human, truly human is our thirst. To stop thirsting is to die. To keep on thirsting for something better, something more, and something else can be the driving force of a human’s life. The Carmelite monk Wilfred Stinissen, said: If humans are created by God, this means that in the end only God can satisfy the thirst that we feel. If humans come from God, it is him I have to thank for my existence. Jean-Paul Sartre, the French existential philosopher wrote in the book Being and Nothingness that being human means striving to be God. The human is all in all a longing for God. A good question to ask is: Is this longing humanity’s great misfortune? Would it be better if we could abscond from this and be happy with simply being?

TUNTREET

Translated By: Magnus Horgen Rekkedal

There are many examples of religion and fanatic belief in God leading people astray. The dream about realising the perfect, can make a seeing human blind. The combination of power and religion has left terrible marks. People have committed dreadful actions in the name of God. There are also countless stories about leaders exploiting their position and becoming tyrants. Humanity’s thirst has led to ruin, destruction and catastrophe. The thirst for God is perverted, turned inwards and turns into a thirst for glory, fame, wealth, and power. Humanity’s thirst is a drain. An abyss that will never be filled. Humanity is a rider without a horse. Humans are of the earth, but long for heaven. The following is a poem by Hans Børli, and could not be translated: Stjernene på himmelen, taggete, skarpe Skår av knust lys. Is there a path for humans?

DERES REF: Moral VÅR REF: Dobbeltmoral FADERLOFTET, DEN 4. mars I DET 116.

We know who you are, xoxo
