Time has stopped, but not digitally! It is in times like these we see how vulnerable society really is. At the same time, it’s incredibly strong, and the unity is something we can’t see before something like this happens. The people get divided into two types, the ones who remain calm, and does everything they can to help, and the ones who don’t give a fuck. It all happened so quickly, even if it might feel like everything is put on hold. Every day feels like a Sunday, the only difference is that the stores are open. The perspective of time is ruined, and one is constantly restless. The feeling of freedom, both from school and other responsibilities has never been bigger. This is where the many new solutions come, that partly works when you want, and partly when it has to. To jump
between Skype, Zoom and Canvas conference, has become the new stressing from Urbygningen to Aud.Max within the academical quarter. It is easy to lose sanity, especially if you don’t have something to fill this new found time. I’ve experienced it myself. What I’ve discovered this period is how good 2000’s music really is. A recommendation is to listen to some of these old songs and reminisce back to the days where there wasn’t any talk about cabin people, toilet paper or home office. When the famous beer brand wasn’t in the spotlight. When everything was nice, and you weren’t locked inside yourself.

Happy Women’s Day! On Sunday the 8th of March, the international woman’s day was held in Ås. This is a marching day for women’s rights, but also a celebration of what women throughout years have achieved in the movement. Sofia Basma Moen Journalist
Women’s day for over a 100 years The international women’s day was born in Copenhagen in 1910. It was founded by “the other’s international” socialistic women’s congress, with the intent to be a day of protest to achieve voting rights for women. Already in 1911, this day was marked in several countries, and for the first time in Norway in 1915.

though the goals set in 1975 was not met, the women’s role was changed within this decade. Finally, women were seen as subjects and actors instead of objects. After the women’s decade ended, a lot of the hype ended and there were less people marching in protest. Abortion rights and #Metoo In 2014, the women’s day found new meaning again, and a record of people marched since the 70s. In Oslo alone, the was almost 15 000 people marching in demonstration for abortion rights on the case of a GPs right to decide on executing abortions. The engagement has been stable since then, especially in the case of the #Metoo campaign in 2018.
Heyday in the 70s In 1972, the marking of women’s day had an uproar in Norway, when the Women front took initiative to gather a larger marching protest in Oslo. Soon one could witness marching people in several places around Norway. Several of the slogans were about women’s right to abortion, the need for more kindergartens and equal pay. There were also some more radical feminist Women’s day 2020 slogans such as; “No to rape”, “We want This year’s women’s day in Ås started with to be on top” and “No to motherhood”. appeals and a march from city centre before panel calls at “Kulturhuset”. TUNTREET There was appeals from Tuva Moflag, parliament representative from The Norwegian Labour Party, and Julie, who is deputy in Spire. The themes on the agenda was violence against women, lacking research on women’s health, birth- and maternity rights, the right to have an early ultrasound check-up, and legalization of egg donations and preservation of eggs. It was also argued to enhance the female position in a global setting, and that climate and equality should be a part of all projects. Julie shed light on the women in Africa handling 88% of the food production and that 80% of refugees are women and children. On the agenda was also the continuing problem of child marriage.
The panel calls was between women of three generations with different point of views. It was a good discussion that was finalized with the most important fights in 2020: education for girls, international solidarity – helping refugees, teaching about feminism at school and daring to stand up for what you believe. Soup and concert In the afternoon, after the program in the city had finished, the celebration continued at Samfunnet. The day ended with soup in Johannes and a concert with the band Sliteneliten. The band consist of six women, with a fiddle, drums, guitar, flute, piano and bass they play a good mixture of folk songs, punk and rock. With a radical leftist agenda, they roared for the women’s fight and societal changes during the concerts in Halvors Hybel. “Break the patriarchy” was the centrepiece behind the stage, so there was no doubt that this was a group of people who wants change.

The band celebrated the release of their debut single, “Sliteneliten”, during this important day. Halvors was filled with passionate and dancing activists during the concert, which ended in a most successful celebration of the debut single and the women’s day.
Even though we have not yet entirely reached the goal, we have come a long way in the fight against oppression against women. We have to celebrate the contemporary women, as well as, the women and men who came before us and paved the way towards a more equal society.

Student Parliament 2 At the 2nd Student Parliament, the document on environmental politics was discussed, the allocation of welfare funds was decided, and there were held elections of the central Admissions Committee and the Appeals Committee. Document on Environmental Politics The Document On Environmental Politics is meant to show the opinions and demands of students at NMBU when it comes to climate and environment both nationally and internationally. This shall be the guide for how we are going to solve the climate issues. The Document On Environmental Politics is a political document written through the actionplan decided by the Student Parliament. It shall be timeless, preferably not to be revised for 5 years. The document was developed by the AU representant for climate and research, Ina Maria Finnerud, together with a sustainability committee. Three of the suggestions are:
- NMBU are to develop a yearly climate budget and accounting, in accordance with the Oslo-model, with targets for emission reductions, distribution of responsibilities and reporting related to other economic reports. - NMBU should make an effort to offer a completely digital curriculum. E-books and e-compendiums should be available for all courses. 6
Issue 04 Year 75
- NMBU should be an internationally leading university when it comes to research on climate, environment and sustainability. Allocation of Welfare Funds According to NMBU, welfare funds are given to clubs and social organizations in order to support a lively, diverse and inclusive student environment. The sum that NMBU hands out is set by the amount and the sizes of the fines they receive for delayed exam gradings. This year the amount was 444 000kr, which makes up 88% of the total welfare funds. The remaining 12% are handed out in the fall, to new clubs and unions, e.g. the new coming clubs and unions from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. This year, clubs and unions that are open to everyone, and clubs with many members, were prioritized.

Elections of the central Admissions Committee and Appeals Committee The function of the Central Admissions Committee is to assess and rank the applicants and determine who gets admitted to study at NMBU. This applies to the applicants from Samordna opptak who can’t be determined by the points from their grades from high school. Ingvild Munz and Katrine Sømliøy Eikanger were elected by acclamation.
The Appeals Commitee has the task of handling appeals of formal errors at the exams, annulment of examinations or tests, suspected cheating on exams or tasks, as well as appeals about teaching and the learning environment. The position is remunerated, and an interest for the study of law is an advantage. This year Sondre Gretland Harstad and Vebjørn Gunnarson Thunes All clubs and unions can apply for were elected as permanent representatives. welfare funds!

The Dark Side of the Clothing Industry Tuesday, March 10th, a clothing swap night was organised at Samfunnet. Here, you got the opportunity to save both money and the environment by handing in clothes you don’t wear and swap them for new ones. Additionally, one avoids supporting the unethical working conditions in the clothing industry. Sofia Basma Moen Journalist Astrid Kisen Translator
Oda Braar Wæge Illustrator
Bad Working Conditions Where do your clothes come from, and under which circumstances are they produced? This might be a question you ponder on for a bit, before you put the thought away and decide to buy the item anyway. In Norway, we import most of our clothes from Asia. Due to a rise in salary expenses in China, a lot of the import is moved to Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cambodia and Malaysia. Young girls often work in enormous factories for 12 hours a day, every day of the week, and they are not well paid. On April 24th, 2013, 1148 textile workers lost their lives, and even more were injured when a factory collapsed in Dhaka, Bangladesh. In this factory, they made clothes for Wagner and Mango, among others. At the same time, the clothing industry causes an economical growth in these countries. The salaries are low, but the industry has employed many people, especially women. High Emissions The shoe- and clothing industry is responsible for 8% of the world greenhouse gas emissions, informs UNEP. According to UNCTAD, the industry releases a higher volume of greenhouse gas emissions than planes and ships combined. Even though the clothes are made of organic cotton, that is of little help when the production runs on coal. Besides the greenhouse gas emissions, the production has a high water consumption, releases a lot of microfiber and wastes a lot of material. UNEP states that 20% of the worlds wastewater (?) comes from the fashion industry. The cotton industry in particular has a high water consumption. Producing a pair of jeans requires between 3,000 and 15,000 litres of water. The Aral Sea in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan used to be the world’s 4th largest lake, being 188 times the size of Mjøsa (Norway’s largest lake). When the
rivers running into the lake were redirected to cotton production, the lake has shrunk by 90% from 1960 to 2004. Buy It – Wear It Once – Throw It Away Mass production in low cost countries has led to cheap clothes, which for us are easy to buy and easy to throw away. According to a SIFO-report on our clothing consumption, Norwegians throw away 23kg of clothes on average each year and every fifth item is never worn. A UN-report states that we globally buy 60% more clothes in 2019 compared to the year 2000. It is time we start thinking before we buy a new item. Avail of swap nights, flea markets, second-hand shops or apps for selling clothes, instead of going to the shopping centre. Issue 04 Year 75

TUNTREET HOW OLD ARE YOU 18-20 years old 21-23 years old 24-27 years old 28 years old or more
WHICH FACULTY DO YOU BELONG TO? What does queer mean? To identify how one feels about gender, be it you own or someone else’s, can be a difficult mission to embark on. Using the term LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender/Transsexual) has been the traditional way to collectively group the ones who don’t follow the “blueprint” of identifying as the gender one is born as, and/or wanting a partner of the opposite sex. Recently, saying LGBT+ or LGBTIQ, where the I is for intersex, and the Q stands for Queer or Questioning. There are many other labels that fall under LGBT+, which covers sexual orientation, gender identity and gender characteristics. Examples of this are pansexual, asexual, non-binary, androgynous or queer. The word queer is often used for someone “not straight”, be it a umbrella term for LGBT+ or just a lack of a sense of belonging to a category in the spectre. In this article, we will be using “queer” as a collective term for all that fall under the LGBT+ spectre. Who Is Queer? It is not easy to know how many are queer, and the numbers are difficult to find. If you search the internet, you’ll get answers that vary between 1,2% to 20% of the population, which is difficult to confirm or deny, as it may be perceived as something too personal that people might not want to answer. Ung.no operates with 3-5%, while SSB have confirmed around 1,21,8%. We can at least conclude that it isn’t uncommon, which is represented by the students at NMBU. Tuntreet made a questionnaire that asked the students a series of questions about what it is like to be queer, and how they are welcomed in the society. We discovered that every single one out of the 110 people that responded, straight or not, all know at least one person that is queer.

WHICH GENDER DO YOU IDENTIFY AS? Female Male Other
Are the terms confusing? Tuntreet is here to help! Aromantic: Having little or no romantic feelings. Asexual: You feel little or no sense of sexual attraction. Demisexual: You only feel a sexual attraction after forming a strong emotional bond. Bi/Bisexual: When you are attracted to both men and women. Cisgender: Identifying as the gender one is born as. Genderqueer/non-binary: Having a gender identity that is neither male or female, both at the same time, or changing between them. Heteronorm: The assumption that everyone is straight. Intersex/Intergender: When your body has both male and female characteristics. Gender identity: Which gender(s) one identifies as. Pansexual: One can be attracted to all, regardless of body and gender. Overlaps with bisexual, but includes non-binary aswell. Skeiv(Queer): Umbrella term for both sexual orientation, gender identity and gender characteristics that are not straight. Straight: Identifying as the gender one is born as and is heterosexual. Trans: One who fully or partly identifies as a different gender to what they are born as. Issue 04 Year 75

The questionnaire also asked about what people identified as, and out of the 110 students who answered, 50% said they were queer, while around 8.2% weren’t sure. Out of the 60 answers that specified that they were queer, 15 are lesbian, 16 are homosexual, 24 are bi, two are trans and two are queer. We also included identifying as asexual, demisexual, pansexual, questioning bi and non-binary.

Is It Difficult Being Queer? SSB have some interesting numbers regarding mental health for queer people. By utilising Hopkins list, which is an index used to measure reduced mental health, the scales spans from 1 (not troubled) to 4 (severely troubled) through multiple questions. An average sum of over 1,75 is considered symptoms for anxiety and depression. This survey was conducted with a relatively small test group, but for the heterosexuals, one out of ten reached above the average. For the queer people (which in this survey was lesbians, homosexuals and bisexuals), one out of three was over the limit.

What could be the reason for this difference? Is it the confusion that comes with finding one’s identity, or is more physical? In 2005, 20% of queer men had been exposed to violence during one year, something which is four times as high as the violence experienced by heterosexual men. Of course, there might be other reasons for this other than one’s sexual orientation, but we do see that queer people generally are more anxious. When Tuntreet asked if someone who had experienced bullying for being queer, around 30% answered that they had been bullied in some way. 1.6% answered that it was a huge problem, while 9.4% answered no, but that it would have been a problem if they had come out of the closet, and that they escaped that scenario because others didn’t know they were queer.

Here at NMBU it seems like it is relatively OK to be queer; 66% have never experienced any prejudice here, while 33% answered that it is rarely a issue. Only one person answers that it isn’t all that OK, and that they often notice a difference in how they are treated.

Part of Your Identity Even though the conditions are much better today than they were before, the world is still relatively heteronormative. You don’t need to tell anyone that you define yourself as the gender you have always been, and it is expected that you should end up with a partner of the opposite sex. Most people will at some point in their life feel the need to tell people/correct this assumption if it isn’t correct, and the students in Ås are no exception. 6.7% of those who answered began to tell people that they were queer when they were 11-14 years of age. 30% came out around the ages of 15-17, 25% said they were 18-20 years old, and 30% in their early 20s. 3,3% came out later, and 5% still haven’t told anyone. What could be the reason for why some decide to tell others about their sexual orientation and gender identity, while others don’t? LGBT+ have many different spectres, some more visible than others. Some of the students have decided to not say something because it was never relevant, because it was not a big part of their own personality, due to prejudice from family and/or elders, or just because it never came up as a topic of conversation. Some want to avoid feeling judged, especially if they aren’t all that sure themselves yet on what they might identify as. On the other hand, there are multiple reasons to tell the world sooner rather than later. For some, it is important to find a partner of a gender one is attracted to, while others might say it is to avoid confusion. The most common reason to come out seems to be for self-acceptance, and to be one’s authentic self. One student answered “there is liberating to tell someone about who you really are. Not just because you can live more open, but also because your own psyche benefits from not having to analyse your own behaviour all the time, and not worrying about how others perceive you”. To finish this article off, it is worth mentioning that we have our own LGBTQI-group here in Ås called Gay På Landet, who are for those who are queer, and those who are allies!

Keep your distance! A decently packed Caféklubb was awaiting the intimate concert with great anticipation, and at seven o’clock the audience could hear singing and button-rattling ascending up the stairs. Green, blue, singing and with ... hats? They lined up on the benches, finished the entrance song and the intimate concert was ready to begin. The conductor started off by welcoming everyone to a slightly less intimate intimate concert, and encouraged everyone to keep a reasonable distance from each other. That was all there was to say about Corona, and our minds were easily distracted from thoughts of infection as the choir began to sing. They started by singing a song about themselves, and made it clear that no one is greener and bluer than them. With modulation and good harmonies, the rest of the evening seemed very promising. From drinking songs to stupid and delicious As the evening continued they proceeded with a few drinking songs. MiniUKA is cancelled, but what will happen to UKA?
We were well prepared for miniUKA, but we did not expect a pandemic

To limit spreading of the coronavirus, the University and Samfunnet has shut it’s doors, and miniUKA has been cancelled. What happens to all the work and planning that has been done for miniUKA, and will UKA still be planned for in these times? We have talked with the leader/boss of UKA, Fimke Pijfers, to get some answers to these questions.
Rehearsal hours done for nothing? The program set for miniUKA was packed with a bunch of fun stuff. Concerts with Donkeyboy and Staut, international food festival and the 3000m beer run was all set and planned for. Even the miniUKE revue had to be cancelled after all the hard work that was put into it. Fimke thinks this is extra sad.
On March 10th, some restrictions to lessen the spread of coronavirus was set, and one of them was to limit the number of people going to events to 500 individuals or less. MiniUKA put these restrictions into place. Only two days later miniUKA was cancelled, and all the hours of work was for nothing. Fimke thinks this is very sad.
“The miniUKE revue was more or less completely ready to be shown when it had to be cancelled, and we thought it was unfortunate that it wouldn’t see the light of day. If an opportunity arises, we will try to record it or in best case scenario; show it at Samfunnet later on. Temporarily we cannot promise anything, but we are crossing our fingers and hoping for the best.”
«It is of course a very sad and irregular situation, but unfortunately there is not much to do about it. We were prepared for a lot for miniUKA, but we could not have seen a pandemic coming. When the virus started to spread around Europe, we began to think that this could eventually affect the program in miniUKA, but we never thought it would have these consequences.”

Issue 04 Year 75
Different measures and scenarios in the back of our minds It’s difficult to say what the pandemic will look like in October when UKA is held. Fimke says that UKA hopes for the best. “We hope and plan for UKA to be arranged
as usual, but different measures and scenarios will also be planned for, to be on the safe side. We will also follow the situation closely and be in close communication with NMBU and the municipality. Our committee leader have worked hard for miniUKA, and we will use that in the upcoming anniversary festival in October. We are crossing our fingers and hope that the situation will calm down so that UKA in Ås will happen, and become the celebration of a lifetime.” It is a time to be extra kind to one another Before all the fun things can start back up again, she recommends everybody to contribute to the national voluntary work: “Take care of yourself and the ones around you! There are probably many people in quarantine that would appreciate a hand with grocery shopping or other errands. Some of your close friends or family might need a little extra love and care as well. But remember to take precautionary measures and listen to the recommendations from the authorities and professionals! Take care of each other, but don’t touch one another, like our prime minister, Erna Solberg, said.”

Students get the short end of the stick The Corona Pandemic doesn’t only have health implications, but the economy is also severely affected. This also includes the students, and Thursday March 26th, the government announced a bail out for students.
The rest of this year’s grants and loans will be transferred to students after Easter. Students who have lost their part time job will also get the opportunity to apply for an additional loan of 26,000NOK. Students and student organisations all over Norway, including NMBU’s Student Parliament, were infuriated by this decision. They think the support should come as grants. The leader of the Student Board at NMBU, Tord Hauge, has been a front person on this matter. -Students should receive unemployment benefits just like everybody else. The whole situation would have been solved if the student grants were enough to live on. We agree with the majority of the student body in Norway, that the student support should be 1.5 times the basic amount in the National Insurance, which is slightly under 30,000NOK a year. -The Bail Out Is Unfair If you are not a student, and are either unemployed or temporarily laid off, you get extended unemployment benefits. That means that if you are closing in on the limit
on how long you can receive unemployment benefits (26 weeks), you can get this limit extended until the end of June. Hauge thinks this is unfair for the students who don’t receive these benefits. -The bail out treats employees differently depending on whether they are students or not. If have a part time job you have been temporarily laid off, you will receive unemployment benefits if you are not currently studying and offered a loan if you are studying. We would never accept other employees receiving a loan offer from the state if they were in this situation.
- If the support were to come as a loan, it would make a heavy burden even heavier for the students. When this crisis is over, they risk entering an employment market with high unemployment rates and an economy under pressure. It will be more difficult entering this situation as a fresh job seeker with a higher loan than what you otherwise would have had.
- The society should do the same for students When we ask why students really need a bail out, he says the following: -Students are a vulnerable group, especially financially. When/if they are laid off their part time job, they lose an important part of their income. The society must then support them the same way they support the rest of the community. NMBU Agrees With The Students NMBU agrees with the students and thinks the bail out for the students should come as a grant. On NMBU’s website, rector Sjur Baardsen says the following: Issue 04 Year 75

If there’s a will, there’s a way: Desire-paths on Campus «Fuck I’m late, I’ll take the shortcut.», is a sentence that has probably crossed the mind of many students in Ås. Proof of this is very visible in the landscape. Shortcuts become paths, paths become tracks, and tracks become wellestablished trails. We are here today to honour and evaluate these important travel routes. Merriam-Webster describe a desire-path as an unplanned path created by human erosion, that represent the only or preferred route to a destination. Over time, through either laziness or bad time management, there is a silent agreement of where the paths will go. Some places, desire-paths have also been used as reference for where the “official” paths

should be. Desire-paths are not like normal paths that say where we want people to go – desire-paths tell us exactly where people themselves want to go. The examples are many in Ås, so we will focus on the larger, more well-known paths on Campus.
Møllestien (The Mølla Path) A river of dirt cuts through green lawns between Mølla and the SiÅs service-building. Maybe you’re going to get more drinks one night, or you’ve taken the long way around with some good company coming home from the University one evening. Either way; you’re too lazy to walk around the buildings. And here it began, to Mølla 113-118’s joy and despair. A nice feature here is the staircase climbing up the side of the hill, as an exit to the path. Usefulness: 7 Aesthetics: 4 Should a road be established? No.
22 Issue 04 Year 75
TUNTREET Eikovergangen (the Eika crosswalk) «Aaah, the crosswalk is a whole 4 meters away, I can’t be bothered.», and so the Eika crosswalk was made. Very well used and highly defined, it stands as a testament to student laziness and ability to maximise the efficiency of crosswalks. Even though this one might not be as well-known as some of its larger siblings, it is still one of the most used shortcuts in the area. Usefulness: 4 Aesthetics: 3 Should a road be established? No Sørslusen An iconic element making its way across the TF-field to Sørhellinga in two parts. This is one of few paths visible all year round. The diagonal proves Pythagoras theorem as the shortest way to go is not along the edges, but along the hypotenuse. From the roof of TF you can see Sørslusen lighting up as a beacon and monument of students will. This path will not disappear, and with the mud that comes with rainy weather, it would make sense to make it match the paths of gravel around it. Usefulness: 10 Aesthetics: 10 Should a road be established? Yes
TF-corridor An often forgotten relative of Sørslusen is the TF-corridor. Why walk around the tree when you can walk in front of it, and you have passed the bicycle racks about a hundred times before anyways. A shortcut to the backdoor is always welcome. Usefulness: 6 Aesthetics: 5 Should a road be established? No
Issue 04 Year 75 23
TUNTREET The Akropolis passage Like a gate to another world, the Akropolis passage splits the hedge in two and welcomes students to cross over from the parking lot, instead of following the road. This is one of the few desire-paths that actually increases traffic safety. In fact, you avoid following the street and its increased risk of accidents. Otherwise it’s a small piece of topiary otherwise only seen in the bigger park and is a welcome feature on our University hill. Usefulness: 10 Aesthetics: 7 Should a road be established? Yes
Vestveien Are you going to the post office? No problem! Just cross the lawn! Vestveien is the unruly cousin of the well-established sidewalk Østveien, and because of a lack of sidewalk on this side, students and employees have made their own. Instead of having to cross the road, you are welcomed to take the most direct route. Divided in two, one along the road, and one on the lawn. Vestveien is an interesting example of when the established solution just isn’t good enough. Usefulness: 9 Aesthetics: 5 Should a road be established? Yes
These paths are just a few of the many desire-paths you can find on Campus, but the selection can still give you a taste of where the students travel. We would encourage you to further examine why you walk where you walk, and open your eyes to these paths that show up after either short or long periods of time. Maybe you would like to join in making the paths of the future?

Ice Cream
Review
We are heading toward warmer days, and the shops have come out with many new products. This includes several new types of ice cream, and I made it my personal mission to find out which new products are worth the trip outdoors.
Freia melkesjokoladeis (milk chocolate ice cream) – Hennig Olsen 26NOK This is the ice cream that inspired me to find an excuse to try out a bunch of new types. This is visualised by me being so excited to taste this that I threw away the packaging before I managed to take a photo. I’m the kind of person that eats the chocolate on the outside first, and then the ice cream. I therefore appreciated the chocolate sauce as the core a nice surprise. It is probably a bit sweet for some people, but I have a sweet tooth and I’m already looking forward to sitting in the sun this summer, eating this ice cream. Score: 6/6
Nude Strawberry – Hennig Olsen 26NOK My mother used to make strawberry jam every summer, and she would freeze it and have some for the rest of the year. My siblings always take jam out of the freezer and eat it frozen. This ice cream gives me exactly that vibe. Unfortunately, I’ve never been a big fan of eating frozen jam, even though this ice cream gets some extra points for being healthier than the rest. Score: 3/6

Crème hvit - Hennig Olsen 30NOK I have to admit that I have already tasted this ice cream in Sweden and was delighted to finally see it in Norwegian shops. The white chocolate coating is just as good as the chocolate swirl on the inside. Although, I can imagine this one being a bit too sweet for some people. If you like white chocolate and way too much sugar, I can highly recommend this one. Score: 6/6
Dream yoghurtis Blueberry & Crumble Pie – Diplomis 74.90NOK I have always thought blueberry to be an underrated flavour and can conclude that this ice cream is no exception. You get 800ml of berry deliciousness (berryliciousness?), which is even tastier if you mix it into a soft serve consistency. The price pulls the score down a mark, and also the fact that it could easily have had more crumbles in it. However, it won’t stop me from buying this ice cream again. Score: 5/6 Issue 04 Year 75 25

TWO BEERS Ulrik Melhuus has become a well-known name for many on the agrarmetropole, and as I call him, he is packing his bags, headed for Trondheim. Many have already left Ås, and it’s quiet at Pentagon. When I ask him if he worries about the virus, he says something I think adequately reflects his personality: “My greatest concern is that I’ll be alone for two weeks. Then the greatest worry is for my mental health. “ Before Ås After high school, Ulrik planned to enroll in the Armed Forces. He had been active with trail-riding and handball, and his physique was well in order for the tryouts. “The session went very well right up to the doctor’s check, where I was told that I have asthma,” Ulrik says. “That was enough to not let me join.” He obtained a medical certificate from his own doctor and sent several emails to try to get in, but to no avail. So then road went straight from high school to college.
Photo:T.Andersen
“I actually intended to go to NTNU since that’s what everyone else was doing” Ulrik says. He had a study program at NTNU at the top of his application, and a program at NMBU a little further down. He had, just to be sure, applied for housing at Pentagon, and it turns out SiÅs were involved in getting Ulrik to Ås. “SiÅs called me with an offer for housing and gave me a response time of 48 hours,” says Ulrik. So, decisions had to be made quickly. After talking to parents and friends, he accepted the offer and moved into Pentagon 1 as a Geomatics student at NMBU. Then the goal was finding friends and having fun. It turned out to be quite the gift for Ulrik and for the student environment in Ås. Commitment and meaning Ulrik is a guy with lots of zeal, and already at Graskurs part 1 in the buddy week he found something he wanted to do. As a Trønder, TF became a natural target and he started a longer application process to join Over Rævne. It took him five attempts before he was accepted, and he makes it clear that it has to do with a lack of singing talent. As time went by he also decided to become more active in Over Rævne, and he has now become BEstyrer. “Being the manager is mostly about planning and delegating responsibilities,” says Ulrik. “It’s a bit like a big kindergarten sometimes, but it’s not the worst.” In hindsight, Ulrik has also seen other benefits of not getting into Rævne on the first try. “In retrospect, it may have been a gift, because then I got to participate in all the other fun things.” The first position Ulrik landed when he came to Ås was a job in the study program’s Learned Society. “People were just nominating each other and it didn’t really lead anywhere, so when someone suggested me, I thought I could do it,” he says. It was very nice to sit on the board, and Ulrik says that he got to know many new people. But it wasn’t until he joined Tekna that he opened up more socially. In Tekna he was on the student committee, and spent a year as deputy chair.

TWO BEERS UKA and Samfunnet It was his desire to be involved in everything within parties and fun that made Ulrik join the Security Committee at Samfunnet. His interest was sparked when he heard talk of an internal party, but it turned out to be a pleasant time working the party evenings and Ulrik stayed in the committee for several years. The Security Committee was the start of his dedication to Samfunnet, which later led to his two largest positions as event manager at Samfunnet and Grill Chief during UKA. Ulrik was the UKE-Grill Chief and was the man in charge of the kitchen. He set up the menu for party evenings and made sure that all 28 000 who were at Samfunnet during that period got a snack. “It was freaking fun and I made a lot of good friends,” he says. The biggest “drive” for Ulrik is to have fun and to be with and get to know people. This is evident when he talks about all his duties and activities. “I was social earlier as well, but I have become more confident at the university,” says Ulrik. His goal now is to have fun, have something to do and to have something to fill his days. The manager of the UKE-Grill was Ulrik’s first major position, and from there he went on to become event manager at Samfunnet in Ås. In November after UKA was completed, he was called by the nomination committee and told that he had been nominated for the position of event manager. Ulrik says that he really intended to slow down after UKA, but he states that he is cursed with the lack of ability to say no. Then he ran for the position as event manager, and won. It was the start of a busy year and many hours spent in the office wing, planning events and meetings. During this period Ulrik says that he feels like he set his mark on the Student environment in Ås. He mentions the event responsibility as very rewarding and also mentions the great cohesion in the office wing at Samfunnet. The different positions have given Ulrik fun tasks to fill his days, and in retrospect he feels that he has been given a lot in return. He encourages others to take on positions around the agrarmetropole, and believes that being whimsical is not an excuse. “As a person, I am whimsical and messy as fuck, so it is possible to get involved despite that. It only takes a little extra work”, says Ulrik.
28 Issue 04 Year 75
A man of many homes Ulrik has lived all his years at the Pentagon, which facilitates a lot of drinking, joking round and good relations. He spent the first year at Pentagon 1 where he had the best sun terrace in the entire Pentagon. The path then led to an eight-people flat in Palisaden and then to Eplehagen where he lives today. He still feels that he has many homes. “When I walk through Eplehagen and see some friends in a collective, it’s quick to stop by,” he says. The fact that visiting people is so easy is one of the nicest things about Ås. As BEstyrer, it may not be surprising to hear that he almost lived in Bede as well. The road ahead The people are absolutely the best thing about Ås, Ulrik thinks. There are those who motivate him to participate in the student community, and he has met several of his best friends on the agrarmetropole. Thus, he’s not ready to leave just yet. Thanks to his many and versatile positions he is finishing his master’s in six years instead of five, but this is not something he regrets. “I came to Ås and lived my best life,” says Ulrik, emphasizing that he likes it damn well in Ås. He is going to write his master’s next year, but claims he is not ready for the working life yet. So fortunately he has a few years left as a student to look forward to.
TWO BEERS The Servings department of 2018 can be called a milestone in the lives of many members, and what would this time be without our dear Ulle? Without you, we wouldn’t have our famous dance to hype us up and annoy everyone else. Nor would we have our dear E6 remix, and rumour has it you’re partially responsible for Tyrker becoming our national drink. You’ve grown a lot in the time that we’ve known you, but some things never change. You are chronically stressed and always late, and maybe a tiny bit of an airhead. For example, one time you forgot our department meeting, and were on your way to a crash course with Tekna instead. But you make up for this with your giant drive and interest, good mood and empathy. You’re always there to cheer others up and make sure the team morale is high. Creativity and ambition is not lacking either, together with your love for good food. This became very apparent the time you spent hours making pizza, while the rest of us just drank wine. It also proves that you’re one of the kindest people we know. You’re always there with a hug if it is needed, which has probably helped many in the department. We’ve seen you at your best and at your worst, and you’ll probably never be rid of us. We love you and are incredibly proud of all that you’ve managed to do. Big hugs from the Servings Department of 2018
*Knocks on the door* The handle is pulled, and the door swings open. The whole atmosphere in the dorm brightens. It is none other than Ås’ own conglomerate of Åge Aleksandersen, Bjarne Brøndbo and Alex Rosén. Many times with a beer in hand, and karsk in his beard. Ulrik. We’ve had the opportunity to get to know you through the last 5 years here on the Agrarmetropol. So- let us describe a friendship with you. Because it plays out almost exactly like a normal Ås-date: 1. We meet in the BEdoga. 2. Alcohol levels are high. 3. You look deep into my eyes. 4. You’re sweating a bit (read: a fuckton) 5. The conversation flows, and we talk about everything. You try a bit too hard, but I like it. 6. We dance to DumDum Boys/Vazelina/ Staysman & Lazz (scratch the one that doesn’t fit) 7. We eat some filling food and drink beer. 8. We make out heavily, without caring if anyone is looking. Or maybe exactly because they are looking. 9. We end up spooning on the couch in BEde. 10. BBB Never giving up. That must be a concept you created. If not the 3rd time, then maybe the 4th or 5th time you applied for the choir “Mannskoret Over Rævne”. When you finally got that hat on your head, you never looked back. The Impossible Is Possible! As the most beautiful view, you can rarely BE described with words. But sometimes you can BE described as: BEstyrer, Event Manager, pretty absent-minded and at the same time a really good friend. Yours truly, Erik G. Sand, Hans-Kristian U. Taje, Hans-Kristian Hartvig, Fredrik F. Ellingsen
Our dear Ulrik/BEstyrer/bromlebass/Assisting Operations Manager/Vodka Bullrik and Gøttebjønn! With a voice that penetrates most of weather, wind and walls, a smile that makes the sun pale in comparison and a beard that even Harald Hårfagre would envy, you have taken our dorm by storm. Not because we especially want you to, but because you want to and we allow it. Ever since your first year, your personality captures the room and you’ve always been yourself, and with dubious luck, you still never say no to your buddies. Even though you sometimes, with varying degree of charm, fuck things up, this is small in the grand scheme of things and always easily forgivable. The reply “Hææ? Mææ?” has become a modern classic. Especially entertaining is it when you come 20 minutes late to an event, panting like a hippo and with a waterfall like Niagara Falls down your face. One can do nothing but smile at this. Another thing to mention is that you both strive to look like, and pretend to be, a more rural version of Captain America, and it works! At times. Despite you not actually having the time, you still take the time to sit down and chat about everything and nothing. We really appreciate your charisma, drive and the friendship you show those around you A big and loving bro-fist to you from us in FIST CITY!
Ulle. You are the super social trønder who speaks the Trondheim dialect the real “Bokmål” way. This has made it easy for us and many others to get to know you, and understand what you’re saying. Even if one can’t see you, one can always hear you! Your low voice is louder than most others in the room, and you never have a problem starting a group song. You live for talking and helping people, where you keep up the spirits of everyone around you! You are a master at asking “stupid” questions so that the ones who are ignored get their chance to speak. You think of everyone around you, and include everyone. You maintain everything from friendships to traditions over several years. Either it be the shower drink or applying for “Rævne”. Most people you’ve gotten to know are still dear friends of yours. This alone shows a lot of what kind of person you are! You invite and host feasts day after day, either it’s a three-course meal, or a cheese sandwich in the middle of the night. Since you didn’t have time for a masters in 5 years, Ås gets the pleasure of your company one more year. Best regards IUGe / Mangoboyz Issue 04 Year 75 29

Sports column Unfortunately, big sports events like «Birkebeinerrennet» and the NMBUI teams final matches have been cancelled. Premier League and the Olympics have an uncertain season ahead. Everything from football to table tennis have been affected. What is a poor sports fanatic to do in the upcoming time? Is Premier League going to be cancelled? Will the Olympics happen in Tokyo?
games of the season being played behind closed doors from June 1st – July 11th.
Almost all international sports has been put on hold because of the coronavirus, with an exception of Hyundai A-League and Swedish Elite bandy. In England, Premier League has been postponed until further notice. Some people think this season should be nullified and start over during autumn. This is probably more fear-inducing for Liverpool fans than the ongoing pandemic. There is a lot of work put in to making backup plans for upcoming sport games, such as the last
The Olympics in Tokyo were supposed to be held from July 24th to August 9th this summer. Now, NIF has sent an open letter to IOC to delay the Olympics until the pandemic is under control. For now, the plan is to go ahead with the Olympics as planned, but they are also planning for other scenarios that might end in delaying the games. The arguments to let the Olympics go as planned is that there is still 4 months left, therefore time to see what will happen with the
ongoing situation. A lot is happening fast, so the Olympics might already be cancelled before the last issue of Tuntreet. Possible solutions and problems Maybe we need to look at the possibility of going through with these events with empty grandstands, so that we can still compete, but with a low chance of spreading the virus. Many athletes and teams are dependent on being able to compete in such tournaments for economic reasons. More teams and clubs will go bankrupt if all the sports events are cancelled. A lot has been put on hold for some time now and will be organized if the spreading of the virus goes down. If the virus keeps spreading like now, other solutions to compete must be found. . The Chinese are ahead in this field, and have already found an alternative way to arrange its elite league matches in hockey. They have moved all their matched to Russia, where the risk of getting the virus is less than in China at the moment. So all those hungry for sports can still catch a game of hockey. Review: Tøyen Holding 2
TUNTREET
“Tøyen Holding continues to deliver the hip-hop that the Norwegian scene needs, and is a breath of fresh air with roots in the past”. Norwegian hip-hop is saturated with “young-some-or-other”-rappers who release meek, poppy trap. Tøyen Holding, along with a bundle of other underground artists, are the antithesis of exactly that. They deliver raw, rhyme-driven old school hiphop in Norwegian, and now they’ve blessed us with their second album: Tøyen Holding 2. “Bars so tight, could fit 16 on a rizla” The duo consists of Mest Seff and Fredfades. Mest Seff, without a doubt, serves the most robust lyrical delivery in the group, but there’s no doubt that the rapping producer Fredfades can write too. This album seems a tad bit more sophisticated than the debut, even though it’s still all about smokes, drinking expensive wine and hooking up with ladies. The album is simply a showcase of how cool Tøyen Holding are, and they make it sound entirely credible.
Resourceful album On this album Seff and Fades have brought along some prominent people from Norwegian hip-hop. Chirag, Lars Vaular, KingSkurkOne and Ivar Strå (Ivan Ave’s Norwegian alias) are featured on Tøyen Holding 2. It seems Tøyen Holding have connections to the top of the Norwegian scene, perhaps unsurprising when the first album is already considered a relic among underground collectors. I preordered this record the moment it was available, and I’m writing this while waiting for the plate to drop into my mailbox. A huge fan of the debut, Tøyen Holding, I had grand expectations for the successor – and I was not left disappointed! Tøyen Holding keeps delivering the hip-hop that the Norwegian scene needs, and is a breath

of fresh air with roots in the past. I look forward to listening to Tøyen Holding 3, 4, 5 and so on, in the coming years.
Tøyen Holding run an endless stock of metaphors and references. “You were a G, while we invest in paintings. Stoned as a Palestine’s weapon», «Politically correct, it won’t happen bro. When Tøyen Holding blows up like a government office” and “You may look, but not touch me, like a work of art. I’m not rich, but resourceful» are only a few of many examples. The lyrics are never “acceptable”, but who really cares? Analog tones Fredfades, as usual, produces some of the best beats out there. Both as a producer and a DJ, there’s no doubt that he’s spent countless hours at record stores on the hunt for rare albums and samples. The production of Tøyen Holding 2 is imbued by soul and jazz, with the warm tones from the analog equipment. Fades uses an MPC 2000 XL and a SP1200. This forms a soundscape reminiscent of legends like Madlib and J Dilla. Like with the lyrics, the production this time around feels more refined than on the first album, the beats carry a “smoother” tone. “Pause from the pause” has got to be my favorite.

Now that times are getting warmer, one might have some extra time on their hands and want something nice and cold to drink? Then cold brew is the perfect choice!
What is cold brew? Cold brew is a smooth and less acidic coffee. The sweetness is enhanced and the bitter taste is weakened, which brings out the fruity flavour in the coffee. Coffee beans have a lot of components that are enhanced when brewed hot, but some of them disappear. These components become enhanced in cold brew, and is one of the reasons to why this type of brewing has become a trend.
Brewing method There are many different ways to brew, therefor I have chosen two methods that in my opinion are the easiest and best. 2. French press coldbrew The most popular method -Pour the grinded coffee beans into the French press and add water. Mix well and put the container in the fridge for 12-24 hours. When that is done, press the French press down. Enjoy your cold brew!

1. Filter coffee cold brew The easiest method -Mix coffee and water in a container with a lid, and put it in the fridge for 12-24 hours. Next, pour the cold coffee over a coffee filter. Last step is to enjoy the coffee.

We took everything for granted – then came March 12th. A-magasinet tells the story as it is. We could never have foreseen this. From a predictable everyday life, to a state of war. A dark state of emergency, a relentless epidemic, an unbearable isolation. A threat of breakdown for what we hold dear. An earthquake for the economy, both here and worldwide. 26 000 dead so far. The numbers are sky rocketing. Italy and Spain, the refugee camps and the poorer countries, how badly will they be affected? Isolation is dreadful for most. Many of the elderly deem it as too much. Better if I didn’t wake up tomorrow, we hear people say. One out of three companies fear bankruptcy. Unemployment have reached rates we never thought possible. We lack expressions and a basis for comparison. It is like a war. What do we do? We don’t know who is infected and who is not. Will this crisis lead to changes in everything we’ve known until now? Top experts in Norway are unsure of the benefits of the most intrusive measures the government has implemented. Ingvard Wilhelmsen, the hypochondria psychiatrist from Bergen says: Now we all have a reason to be worried. Some of us don’t care as much and say: It doesn’t affect me! If I get sick, it will pass. They choose optimism. Everything will be fine, you’ll see! Others fall into anxiety. Look at the death tolls! My parents are vulnerable. I’m vulnerable too. The economy, the country, and the workplaces. It will not end well. The third group represent a middle ground. There is reason to be anxious and upset. This has never happened before. We do not know how it all ends. We have lost control. No one knows what tomorrow brings. Tomorrow will not be like today. It’s true: Anything can happen, anytime, anywhere. There is not much else I can do besides accepting the situation. Hear the birds’ song while it’s still dark before dawn. Feel the scent of Spring, see the sprouts on the trees that swell and are soon to burst. Smile at the ones I pass by. We’re all in the same boat. This too, will pass. It would be awful if we started looking at each other with cold eyes. This happens when we are afraid. Fear and anger are feelings that lie close to each other. Nothing does us as much good as caring about each other. We need to slow down and shield ourselves from the overload of information in the media. We’ll hug again soon, says Kaveh Rahidi, doctor and author. “Hang in there!” It gets better. The one who loses hope, loses a lot. We can smile, we can wave! And the one who has received warm hugs does not forget. Those times will return. Easter is upon us. The Easter is God’s hug to humanity. What! You may say. Preacher’s talk! Yes, but I think there’s something of importance hidden here. Covid-19 threatens us, our lives, our everything. God shows his presence in a suffering and anxious world. In a way it’s entirely baffling what the Bible says, that God sent his son here to live and then die on a cross, to resurrect and live again. It’s a kind of madness. I see it as God’s hug to the world. God became human. God knows how we feel. One day we will see, and understand what we simply can’t comprehend today. The resurrection is God’s hug for us. Happy Easter. In the end all will be well.

Kulturell xoxo, Mastersalen Ur
