FOCUS: STILL SEMESTER STRUCTURE
LEADER
LEADER Memories of Autumn And just like that, we were already halfway through the semester. The nights turn darker, the clock is soon to be set backwards again (was this not supposed to be dropped?), and the plants are gradually losing their leaves. It is autumn. Properly autumn. Maybe it is tempting to hide beneath your covers. Join your lectures online instead of stumbling down the road from Pentagon in a frost-filled fog, feeling the cold autumn air tear at your lungs. I have never been particularly fond of autumn. Apart from its smell. And let’s not forget: now is the time to gather indoors, in the warmth of heating and good company. Maybe grab a cup of hot cocoa. Reflect for a while. There is no way us humans were made to live so far up north. Maybe that is why I would rather remain in bed for a couple of hours after I have woken up. Oh well. #firstworldproblems etc. At that point, it is even more important to have a reason to get out into the darkness of autumn. Well, apart from university, of course. Creating memories is very important. I believe that experiencing things is significantly tied to how one perceives time. If you sit around and wait for Christmas to arrive, time will pass particularly slowly.

Lately, I have been thinking a lot about what I call ‘type-A’ and ‘type-B’ humour. Type-A can be considered what is equally funny in the moment as it is later on. Type-B, however, is what is exhausting, uncomfortable or scary, but can become very funny as soon as you get some distance from it. B is often the source of the best stories—you just don’t realise it while it is happening. An example could be the time I was hit by a tire in the middle of the Mojave desert. Or when I slid down Galdhøpiggen surrounded by complete darkness. Then there’s ‘type-C’. What’s not funny at the time, or later. As I am writing this, we are still in the Mental Health week. I know that the intentions behind it are good, but sometimes it can seem a bit halfhearted. It is not good enough to hand someone a bun if they are really hurting inside. Mental health is not something that lasts a week, it lasts all year. And now that the autumnal darkness is closing in on us, many people feel more isolated than they usually do. I don’t dare to offer any specific suggestions, I’m no mental health worker. Still, I think you should make that extra effort to grab that hot cocoa with someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Be good to others!

Rock ’n’ Bodega Nora Helgeland Journalist
Rock Bodega is a dear tradition, and on Wednesday a good handful of students were rocking it out in Festsalen. As the social distancing restrictions are lifted, it is clear that Ås students suffer from tooliticus bodycontactiatus and it seems important to stand (squeeze) as close together as possible. There was face painting, there were cool rock t-shirts, there was smokey eyeshadow and so much more. It was rockrockrock! Soft pop-rock and metal The night was kicked off by Daniel Gullbrandsen, serving some pop-rock songs in real Ed Sheeran style. The vibes were great when he played “Don’t Stop Believing” as his last song. Following up was Leonard Rahn and Thea Marie Låstad on piano and vocals, serving us more pop6

rock from iconic female artists, rocking us around the clock. In particular, “Oops! I did it Again” by Britney Spears is one of my old favorites, and they finished off with “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus. It is not the easiest song to perform, but they did an incredible job. Hats off. Next up was Pinnsvinklubben Tordenlyn. They had both indie rock from Arctic Monkeys, and more hardcore tracks like “Manowar” by Kings of Metal in store for us. Many were shocked and fired up by the musical thunderstorm on stage, and midset a bra was even thrown on stage and placed around the vocalist’s neck. They ended their set with a heavier version of the classic “Rasputin”. There is a reason these songs were popular, and Boney M. is never wrong.

STUDY ASSOCIATIONS Ås is well-known for its colorful variety of organizations. Lots of things are fighting for our attention, and at times it can feel as if the day is way too short. Whether you are a busy person or not, motivated or fed up, I highly recommend spending time with your study association. Tuntreet is here to show you a selection: Terra Forma and Hemulen! Pauline Hovland Journalist and Photograph Alexander Mæland Munkejord Translator
The study associations at NMBU gather students of the same program or faculty for academical and social events. They are driven by sponsorships from companies, welfare funds and membership fees. Many of them host company presentations where you can meet future employers. If you are looking for a summer job or an internship, you should attend the next “bedpres”. There, you will probably receive both free merch and lunch too. Wednesday 29th of September, the international consultancy company WSP had a so-called “bedpres” for members of the study societies Terra suffering from some shrinkage and parasite culture, but Guttorm thinks that the social side coffee-drinking makes up for it.
Forma, Struktura and Jordskifterlaget. Internally, this was also a great occasion for the program managers of the different societies to throw and catch ball. We meet the leader of Terra Forma, Guttorm Morka Mælum, in Ormen Lange at Akropolis. Terra Forma (lat.: Earth-shape) is the study association for landscaping architects (LA) and landscaping engineers (LING). Akropolis is well-known for housing coffee-slurping students. The coffee deal in the kitchen seems to be 8
Edition 08 Volume 76
Guttorm tells us that Terra Forma, apart from providing academical input, contributes to forming a healthy environment between LA and LING. He also mentions how this network can be used to share information about the courses. Even in life after NMBU, this will be useful, both academically and psychosocially.
Board meetings in Terra Forma In a regular meeting they spend about one hour going through ten cases. Those who cannot attend are expected to read the minutes written by the secretary. The board shares a Google Drive, containing descriptions of the positions, earlier completed cases, layout-templates and other things. They also share an e-mail address, usually full of requests from individuals who want a gardener, landscape-engineer or architect to look at their garden.
The foundations of student associations The study associations at NMBU share a good bit of common features. We choose to use Terra Forma as an example to give an impression of what it can look like. Terra Forma has a board election every semester where half of the board is replaced, and they host board meetings every month. The board consists of leader and secretary, along with one program manager for each study program. The program managers arrange sponsorship deals and host “bedpresses”. They also have managers of events, kitchen, economy, marketing, and one academically responsible who represents the students. As a former marketing head in Terra Forma, I recommend anyone interested to run for positions in their student associations.
Member perks Terra Forma has had some trouble reaching out to students, especially LING. Now, they have reached a record high number of members. Guttorm thinks this can be explained by them making the events more exclusive, opening for the purchase of multi-year membership, and giving everyone a fancy carry-bag at the start of the semester. Simply put, Terra Forma has made the membership advantages more visible. Another tip from Guttorm is to be more visible through more presence and merch. He is not very fond of Facebook, because people tend to forget that they have selected “interested” on events. The members are more committed to the events when they apply through Google Forms.
TUNTREET The organization is well underway with the activities on their semester program, and the next big event is the fall prom, the 20th of November. Wine in Moomin Valley Tuntreet gets to be a fly on the wall when the study association Hemulen holds their board meeting one night at Klubben. This is the organization for those who study biology and plant sciences at NMBU. Externally, they are known for their wine evenings with a shared box of wine for the members. The box wine arrangement, unfortunately, was a constant minus in the budget, so it got abolished as it was deemed inappropriate to spend welfare funds on wine. What a shame. Bringing people together The students of these two programs take courses with a whole lot of participants, and it can be challenging getting to know people in large lecture halls, like in BOT100. In particular, the students who started in 2020 had few opportunities to form good class environments because of the lockdown. Hemulen is a common platform that gathers students on the same year, and across different years and programs. They do this, among other things, by hosting academical lunches. Students of biology and plant
sciences are free to choose what they want to specialize in for their master programme, so the lunches with presentations of master projects from former students have become a hit. Board meetings in Hemulen The board is a well-acquainted group, and works with a somewhat free structure. The different positions are similar to those of Terra Forma. A regular board meeting lasts one to two hours, and often includes something to eat. While TT is present, they discuss registration in The Brønnøysund Register Centre, something all study associations do when they have elected new board members. They also discuss points on their monthly calendar. The leader, Astrid Braut Solheim, tells us that she feels inspired to give Ås students something similar to the career nights that the biology students at UiO get. Thus, Hemulen is aiming to host “bedpress” with Tine, Norconsult and Felleskjøpet, among others. Identity and concept Hemulen as a concept has caused some confusion. I used to believe they were Ås’ answer to the Moomin valley, and felt bad that I did not choose biology or plant sciences. Now however, Hemulen is going to reinvent itself, and is aiming to appeal
to a wider audience than just the Moominfans. This is still top-secret, but they are likely to pick a name with a stronger academic affinity. A new concept will be a breath of fresh air, as the pandemic has caused a separation between Hemulen and the students. Even though Astrid claims there is little to say about Hemulen during the Pandemic, they hosted both bonfire night and Wednesday walks when the infection control allowed it. Now they are ready for a new age, and the board agrees that “when society opens up, Hemulen follows”. The members can look forward to a great Halloween party in collaboration with Fagverket (The study association for Structural Engineering and Architecture) in the end of October. Getting to know those who share your interests can broaden your horizons and strengthen your motivation for the courses. Many of the study associations are having elections soon, maybe you can claim a position for yourself? It can provide you with great experience within organizational work and meeting culture, and add a card to your hand when you are applying for work. Check out Facebook and Instagram to keep up to date on what goes on in your study society.

Survey:
Do we want a new semester structure? Sofie Bergset Janols Journalist

Pauline Marie Søndenå Translator
A new semester structure at NMBU? This autumn, the theme has been a subject for debate and concern in various committees, councils, and hearings. Do the rest of the students agree with the concerns, or are they ready for a change? Tuntreet has sent out a survey and has received the opinion of 169 students.

Edition 08 Volume 76
TUNTREET
Who has responded to the survey? In the last issue of Tuntreet we could read about how the semester structure was under assessment. The consultation deadline is 1st of November, and until then, all faculties, committees and student councils will take a position on the matter. Three models have been studied and evaluated against each other: the current model, the seminar model, and the European model. The background for the proposed changes is a better study quality at NMBU. Changing the semester structure will lead to a more even use of the study year with less courses at the same time. Emphasis is also placed on more flexibility in the length of courses, more project-based Vi kunne også lese at forslaget har blitt møtt med skepsis.
Satisfied but not completely against change The majority of those who responded to the survey are satisfied or very satisfied with the current semester structure. The answers are distributed almost equally between the faculties. KBM, the NMBU School of Business and Economic and MINA seem to be a little less satisfied with the current structure. On a scale of 1-5, most of the faculties rank at 4. How satisfied are you with the current semester structure? 1 = Not positive, 5 = Very positive
The semester structures summarized:
How positive are you to a new semester structure? 1 = Not satisfied at all, 5 = Very satisfied
The current model is as we know separated into two parallels and three blocks. The parallels run from the start of September until the end of December, and the start of February until the end of May. The blocks last for 3-4 weeks in August, January, and June. The Seminar model splits the semester into two teaching periods, with two courses á 7.5 credits in each period. These last for ten weeks. With the seminar model, the Autumn semester lasts from the middle of August to the end of January, and the Spring semester lasts from the start of February until the end of June. The European model splits the year into six periods of six weeks, each giving 10 credits. The autumn semester starts in August and ends in January, and the Spring semester goes from the end of January until the end of June. In all the semester structures it is possible for courses to span over several teaching periods, but in the European model this only applies to the ten-point courses and not the five-point courses. Edition 08 Volume 76
11
TUNTREET Which semester structure are you most positive
The Seminar Model The Current Model The European Model
How do the NMBU students like to learn? The current model adds up to block courses of 3-4 weeks and parallels of 13 weeks. A seminar model will add up to 10 weeks of teaching periods, while the European model will add up to 6 weeks at a time. How are these in line with the students’ preferences?
Correspondingly, the majority answer that they are more negative than positive to a new semester structure. Nevertheless, a good proportion are both satisfied with the current model and positive about change.
In the comment field in the survey, some also pointed out that they prefer different intensities for different subjects. Some subjects are maturation subjects and need a longer period of time. In other courses, more intensive learning may be more suiting. Preferred teaching period
The majority prefer a moderate teaching period of 7-10 weeks and set the less intensive period of 11-13 weeks as a second choice. In third place is a 4-6 weeklong period, and the 3-week period comes last. There are some exceptions to the rule. LANDSAM likes to spread the teaching over 1113 weeks, while a very small proportion of KBM think the same. At REALTEK, the two longest periods receive equally high support.
Less intensive (11-13 weeks) Moderate (7-10 weeks) Intensive (4-6 weeks) Very intensive (3 weeks)
More school and stress? Many express concern that more frequent exams will lead to spending more time studying for exams and working on studies. While some believe that more exams spread out over the year can lead to less exam stress, most respond that more exams will result in more stress. Today, most students in the survey spend between 21 and 40 hours per week on studies. 38% of the students believe that they would spend more time studying with a different semester structure. 20% do not think so, 6% answer that they had neither spent more nor less, while 36% no not know.
How many hours do you spend studying a week?
More than 50
Would you become more or less stressed by more exams, but fewer in the same period?
No change More stressed Less stressed Don’t know

Edition 08 Volume 76
“ “
I am very fond of the blocks. There you really get to concentrate on one subject. But maybe it’s too much if it’s like that all year ...
Why the heck should all this be decided over our heads without anyone infering with the students? If those in the management at NMBU believe that one can only readjust the structure without it having consequences for the social and voluntary, then they are out of their minds. Ås is a popular place to study, primarily due to its strong social and voluntary culture. However, this exceptional volunteering is dependent on having periods during the semester that are less intensive. With a new semester structure, there will always be exams and we must then downgrade much of the voluntary work. This will lead to a less rewarding everyday and Ås as a place of study will quickly become less attractive.
“ “
I have the impression that a new structure will provide less flexibility in which subjects one can take, and less room to shape one’s own study plan. NMBU must (!) engage with active participation for the students when they are making major changes like this. The students are NMBU’s most important resources and must be involved throughout the process.
“
“ “ “
“ “
“ “ “
“
An important part of being a student is learning to prioritize and manage your time well. I’m afraid that with a more intense structure we will lose training in prioritizing and planning work with many different subjects simultaneously. In addition, there are many subjects that are maturation courses, and which therefore cannot be taught with a short block. I also think we should listen to the lecturers when we choose a new structure. How will the different subjects be affected if we change the structure? They know best which subjects are best suited for teaching in the different seasons. In my study, outdoor teaching in the summer semester is important, and it would therefore be stupid if the June block disappeared. I would not have been at NMBU if were not for the social environment around the school. With the change in the semester structure there is no doubt that much of that environment is lost and Ås’ good reputation is weakened.
Do not want a semester structure that leads to a “need” to study for exams during the Christmas holidays, and possibly during the Easter holidays. I prefer to finish courses / exams before a holiday, and not postpone it until after the holiday.
TUNTREET
This is an issue where it is important that the management listens to us students!! We are the ones who know best what it is like to be a student today! I want the courses to be as courses in the January and August blocks are organized (at least the 5-point courses). It is much easier to think of only one topic at a time. I would like the school to be able to consider two periods as it is at NTNU for example. I think the current model makes the semester too short for project subjects of 15 and 20 points. Especially since in the middle of the study there are poor offers in the blocks and often up to the obligatory 30 points in the parallels. Some courses need to mature, so it’s fine with a whole semester. Other subjects are easy to do intensively. So, keep the system we have.
I think the structure we have is good! I know many move to NMBU to have this structure in the semester! I come from another school where the seminar model is used and was very happy with it, fewer subjects at a time to focus on. Have heard the seminar model is used in Finland, which is known for being good at school. Edition 08 Volume 76

The student life outside of the studies For many, part-time jobs and various positions are a natural part of student life. 120 of those who responded to the survey have stated that they work alongside their studies. In Ås, the spirit of volunteering is also particularly strong, and many spend hour volunteering during the semester. Out of the 122 who answered that they get involved in positions in their spare time. 61% answer that they would have to cut back on the number of hours. 38% would still not reduce the number of hours.
How many hours do you spend on volunteering a week?
More than 30
None Hard to know Several in the studies point out that it is difficult to know how a changed semester structure will affect them. Some say so because the change has not happened yet, and others because they do not feel they know enough about the project. In general, there is a lack of information from NMBU about the project, the reason behind it, student participation and the consequences it will have for the students.

Student Parliament 5
Tuesday October 11th, this year’s fifth Student Parliament was held in Tårnbygningen. Multiple important cases were reviewed and have been summed up here. The next Student Parliament is going to be November 8th. Orienteringssaker
Orientation cases The meeting was kicked off with an orientation from the communication department. New video clips for promoting the university with the slogan “TETT PÅ” were shown. They are looking for new content for future promotional purposes and want input from the students about cool things happening on campus. Decision cases The first case was this fall’s distribution of welfare funds. 92% of this year’s funds were distributed at SP2, and the remaining 8% were administered this time. At an earlier Student Parliament, it was decided to add to the funds, and the Student Board has later added further funds. Decide content of consultant reply to Semester structure The case about new semester structure has stirred a lot of emotions. The deadline for the consultant reply is November 1st, and the Student Board presented a document as a base line for the consultant reply. The assembly added some additional points. These regarded concerns around the assistant teacher arrangement, pre-courses in the blocks and internships. As some had registered that the students want to keep today’s structure, a proposition to add this to the consultant reply was put forward. The Student Board meant it was necessary to keep the reply neutral, and that it considered each model’s pros and cons, and not specifically which of the three models we want. The contents of the consultant reply were then approved with the mentioned changes.
Decide the Program of Principles This is a political document stating which essential values the students by NMBU stand by. This guides the student democracy when prioritizing political issues, and therefore influences what changes are made for the students in the coming four years. One issue is about working towards 1.5G in student aid, instead of today’s 1.21G. It was proposed to go for 2G, but the Student Board meant that 1.5G is ambitious enough at the moment, and the proposition was decided against. There was however added an additional point about increasing the grant percentage of the student aid before the case was approved. Decide the Resolution of Vollskogen There have been tons of critique from the students regarding the plans to destroy the Vollskog to build houses, and this resolutions purpose is to stop this from happening. Some adjustments were made to the wording to make it more understanding of the habitants in Pentagon, while not softening the message. It was also added that NMBU should use its property rights around Nedre Pentagonvei to help support our case. Decide the SAIH Student Advocacy Seminar resolution SAIH’s local division wants to establish “Student Advocacy Seminars” by NMBU, giving students the opportunity to learn more about human rights by focusing on imprisoned students and academics. The goal is to make it an elective course, but restrictions may force it into another format.
Thea Samskott Lina Grünbeck Translator Journalist
The assembly supported the suggestion and approved the resolution, declaring that we shall work towards this goal. Discussion cases Unjustified furlong from studies Iselin Østvedt unveiled inequality regarding the right to unjustified furlong from studies. As of right now, it is possible to freeze your course of study without any particular reason by NTNU, UiB and UiO, but not by NMBU (on paper). Some Student Advisors allow this without any issues, others demand documentation. The need for a brake or new impulses is therefore not enough. This is why it is proposed a right to unjustified furlong from studies here as well, with a shared practice across all faculties. Resolution concerning SiÅs rental prices In this case it was pointed out that SiÅs’ prices are increasing faster than both the general student aid and the consumer price index. Jardar Bringedal presented a proposal for the rent not to grow more than the CPI in the future. Some in the assembly were positive, but many felt like they did not have enough information and wanted something in writing from SiÅs before SP6. Election of the Buddy General A new Buddy General was going to be elected, but nobody ran, and to the election was postponed to SP6. The next Buddy General will be the first one to get paid in the position. Tip someone you know would do a good job! Edition 08 Volume 76

Inclusivity saga Iris van Brunschot Journalist
For many students, the buddy week is a fun and social start of an unforgettable semester at NMBU. It provides an opportunity to meet fellow students and incorporates freshers into the famous Åsbobla. But how inclusive is the buddy week? Do international students feel welcomed in the spirited bubble of Ås? A bubble without a buddy Although international students were encouraged to sign up to the buddy week, many were left without a buddy group upon the 13th of August. Confusion around who could sign up and when to sign up, combined with cohorts of maximum 200 students, meant that those who signed up late were excluded. The International Student Union (ISU) therefore took initiative to organize some last-minute events for students who couldn’t join the main week.
16
Oda Braar Wæge Illustrator
“It is scary to come to a completely new country all alone,” says Rachel Kelly, vice president of the ISU. “The buddy week is vital for socialization, and without it, many internationals struggle to integrate into the university and general student life.” ISU president Beatriz Henna agrees. “Our primary concern is to prevent this from happening again,” she says. “All students should feel welcome at NMBU, regardless of their nationality.”
In regard to the buddy week, Andersen explains that they were overwhelmed with the number of students wanting to sign up. “Not only international, but also many Norwegian students weren’t able to join the buddy week due to COVID-19.” She further emphasizes that it has been challenging for everyone to arrange events during the past two years, and that it is now important to take a proactive approach to inclusion.
Overwhelmed with students Iben Andersen, head of SiT (Student Information Centre) recognizes the importance of international inclusion. “International students represent important opportunities to create international networks, practice language skills and gain insight into other countries’ cultures,” she argues. “They add a lot of value to NMBU and our student community.”
The paths to inclusion Putting words into action, SiT organized an open meeting for international students the 13th of October. Some of the suggestions to improve inclusivity were better international marketing of the buddy week, closer cooperation with Samfunnet, as well as the employment of international student mentors. The availability of English information on NMBU’s and Samfunnet’s

TUNTREET websites was also a key issue. While NMBU in 2018 adopted a threeyear action plan to preserve and increase equality, diversity and inclusion, there are obviously still some issues that need addressing. ISU therefore plans to file a formal complaint addressing the broader problems of international inclusion. A new diversity committee Ina Maria Finnerud, president of the student board, assures they will do their very best to raise the complaint to NMBU’s administration. “We recognize that internationals should have been able to sign up earlier, and apologize for the feelings of exclusion this induced.” Nisha Jha, one of the board’s members, continues to say that a new ‘diversity committee’ will be established to tackle issues related to inclusion at NMBU. This committee will address how the university can incorporate internationals better in both the autumn and spring semesters.
So maybe it is time to get to know some internationals sober? Don’t get scared away by their sceptical opinions on ‘brunost’ and ‘makrell i tomat’. In fact, including international perspectives on cultural habits and academic debates can greatly enrich our lives. Some revolutionary ideas might arise from including international opinions on the order of filling a taco!
The goal is to integrate everyone into Åsbobla, because once inside this vibrant bubble, one doesn’t ever want to leave. So, be bold; try it out; speak English for longer than 2 minutes next time you meet an international student. Who knows what exiting opportunities it will bring for both!
An open conversation about inclusion International students continue to fall outside of Åsbobla due to language and information barriers. The confusion around this year’s buddy week did not help matters along. Nevertheless, Nisha Jha mentions that everyone worked and continues to work really hard to prevent both international and Norwegian students from feeling excluded from the student community.
A comfortable Norwegian bubble Amongst internationals, it is well-known that when Norwegians drink a couple of beers, they speak English perfectly. However, the next day they retreat back into their comfortable Norwegian bubble. Could these reserved Norwegian manners be a problem? Maria Hugues from Mexico experiences that the Norwegian lack of curiosity can be barrier to inclusion. “It can be sad and frustrating that Norwegians only speak English when they are drunk, ” she says. Hugues adds that she feels included at NMBU and ‘loves the university,’ but sometimes feels excluded from ‘the whole samfunnet thing,’ which is expensive and Norwegian oriented. “Oktoberfest is a great example; even the cheapest tickets are very expensive for many international students.” Hugues understands that it is hard to ‘criticize’ other cultures, and respects the different attitudes. Nevertheless, she believes Norwegians could make more of an effort to interact with internationals and break existing barriers.

There were no vacant seats when Pikekoret IVAR went onstage stage at Klubben for the very first intimate concert since the reopening of society (and Samfunnet) Wednesday, September 29th. Both the audience and the choir had longed for a proper intimate concert for a while, and there was a lot of laughter - and also some songs, of course. The audience, spirit, and drive New and old IVARinner opened the show with style and the concert went smoothly, well accompanied by Klubben’s ordinary buzz (and oh, how we have missed it!). There was positive energy and drive from the very beginning. It seems that corona hadn’t put any stops to the usual chant - on the contrary! The manly choir Over Rævne

Something Longed For, Something Quite Different As the red and yellow lights of fall shine through the windows of Klubben, one chair after another is put into place. Slowly but surely the seats are filled with both students and non-students, with people full of hope, expectations and some alcohol. They all have one thing in common: waiting for the choir Noe Ganske Annet (NGA) to come up the stairs singing in a familiar fashion. Nora Helgeland Journalist

The Songbirds are Back! After a lively and musical entry, Eivind and Vera present themselves as hosts of the night. They will be leading us though a musical experience that is truly something else. The last time NGA did an intimate concert was the last day before Samfunnet closed down. That makes it even more special sitting here again, after one and a half year of the NGAdrought. They first sing the song “Begjær om den etterlengtede matpakken“ (“The longing for the long-lost packed lunch”). A well-known classic, for those fortunate enough to have heard the choir before. They then proceed to “Ut i vår hage” (“Out in the garden”), taking us through the seasons. The song “Skitur” (“Skiing trip”) is performed with great compassion, and plenty of audience members are left smiling from ear to ear.

by this moment. Grimenes is a surprisingly capable showman (perhaps not as surprising for those of us who have taken FYS101) and impresses greatly when he joins in on a song. A Varied Conclusion They then brought us on a roundtrip with French drinking songs from the 1800’s and “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics. There were goosebumps when they rounded off with Sondre Justad’s “Riv i hjertet”. The

audience could just not get enough of NGA, and they had to sing an encore. The last song was something quite different from Norwegian pop, and we were taken back in time with a song from the renaissance. After the heroes of the night had sung themselves down the stairs and the applause died off, we moved out into the dark of the fall, feeling a bit warmer than when we arrived.
Blue-Green Glee A highlight of the night is when Arne Auen Grimenes himself, pensioned associate professor of Realtek and honorary member of NGA, is given his very own NGA-vest. Tears are shed as he puts on the blue-green vest, and many were probably left a little touched Edition 08 Volume 76

An apple a day keeps the gynecologist away
«Another desperate revue from Feminin & Fornem. The performance is good enough, and the dances are good, but the skits are only average. Sex, society boys, and nudity, no surprises there. A two out of six.» That is how the (desperate) Feminin & Fornem’s own prediction of this review goes. Their words, not ours. The revue was not that bad, and this extract from the Tuntreet skit is an example of why. Tuntreet was “roasted”, because all of the revue reviews are identical, and we could have just copy-pasted the whole text from the last time FF had a revue. Well, they’re not completely wrong, I do have the 2019-review on the left side of my Word document. Regardless, much is similar on both sides, which is completely okay, as long as it is entertaining. . Cinematic experience The whole show sets off with an obvious reference to the introduction of the American comedy-drama series Desperate Housewives, from which FF clearly got the theme of their revue. One by one the desperate girls appear on the screen in black dresses, laying on the ground surrounded by red apples. The song “Tsunami” by DVBBS 20 Edition 08 Volume 76
& Borgeous is booming from the speakers (feel free to play the song while you read the rest of the review). The introduction is followed by yet another exciting video, where the girls wake up at an afterparty with the Rævne-guys, they are in a hurry because they have a revue to catch, their own! We get to meet the @ bulksisters who are fighting to get ready for performing, and we get to join the girls on a chaotic bus ride from Pentagon to Aud. Max. It shouldn’t take more than three minutes to get there, but when you are desperate you manage to curl your hair, put on your make-up, apply tanning lotion, and even get shitfaced before the journey comes to an end. Video on screen worked wonders also during the doctor’s appointment over

Zoom, where a patient with some irritation in her nether region, had to be examined via Zoom. Great acting abilities were shown during this act. During FF’s version of the classic Norvegia advertisement about sex and relations, the actors show themselves from their best side. Generally, the acting performances were better on screen than live on stage. This could also have something to do with the dialogue being hard to catch, because of the sound system and the noise from Unity, who got a moving version of TIX’s song “Fallen Angel” dedicated to them.
TUNTREET Sex and the society The skits that happened on the stage were mostly about sex, the consequences of sex, and the relationship between men and women. Hankattene eat mice in a rewriting of Bestemor Skogmus’ vise, FF are tired of society boys on tinder, the birth control pills are to be taken all at once, FF are starting an OnlyFans to earn money for UNICEF, the weather forecast is sexualized, food in the store is sexualized and Pusen Brede is sexualized in a lifelike stand-up show. These are the issues that seem to make the girls in Feminin & Fornem desperate. Skits about different aspects of the world, other than sex and gender, weren’t as frequent. We were served politicians in “Kompani Stortinget”, a skit about Curt Rice, and a critique of SiÅs’ parking system for students. It also has to be mentioned that Pusen Brede was made into cat food in Hong’s Kitchen during a refreshing sketch at the beginning of the revue. The last skit was of the self-irony type, which is always a good call in comedy. The skit confirmed what many of us have been thinking, which is that all of the desperate girls (except for a short Asian) are tall blondes. The reasons for the lack of diversity were never given. Birthday suits If you go to an FF revue, lightly dressed girls dancing to upbeat music are inevitable. Those who think that there are too many similarities between the FF-revues aren’t thinking about this part because the dancing
acts are the peak of this revue as well. The audiences witnessed both cheerleading, dancing in their birthday suits, without their birthday suits, and in black, sexy underwear. Some will maybe view this type of dance, revue, and social society to be a reinforcement of old gender roles, but the desperate girls are independent and confident, and they are not feminine and outstanding because they are being forced, but because they want to and completely have the right to. In its entirety, «Frustrerte Frøkner» is more of a show than a revue. The dancing acts are certainly of good quality and the singing acts are not that bad either, but the skits,
unfortunately, seemed a bit rushed. The plot and the dialogue moved very quickly and it was hard to catch the content and the humor. On the other side, the video skits were out of this world. The members of Feminin & Fornem should go into movies and shows rather than theater and revue. The revue can be summarized like this: Yet again a “desperate” revue from Feminin & Fornem. Overall, an okay performance, with very good dancing acts, but the skits are unfortunately average. Sex, society boys, and nudity, no surprises there. Sex out of six.

Where Children are Doing Bad, Girls are Doing the Worst Representatives from this year’s TV fund raising event came to “Tirsdagspåfyll” at Samfunnet in Ås. This year’s fund raiser, Barn ikke Brud, is an initiative towards Plan’s work for girls and communities in some of the countries that struggle the most with child marriage: Bangladesh, Nepal, Malawi and Niger. Arthur Devold Journalist
This month was the first time an actor was sent into space to shoot a movie. Last year several vaccines were developed in record time to fight off a foreign virus. It is easy to think that the world is changing faster than you fathom. At the same time, child marriage is continuing to be a far too common problem. Globally, one in six women are married before they turn 18, and on average the world has a new child bride every third second. How can people do this to their children? What can be done to change these bleak numbers and the stories behind them? The Poverty Spiral Imagine you are a 14-year-old daughter in a poor family in Bangladesh. Your parents are working double to keep the family fed and have no opportunity to stay home with you, much less accompany you on the dangerous road to school. They see no other way of giving you a safe life than to find a husband and a family in-law that can take care of you. Your purpose is being a wife and a mother: education becomes irrelevant. You get pregnant, but the birth comes with serious and chronic health 22 Edition 08 Volume 76

implications because you are a child giving birth to a child. You have no education, no job, and you are poor. Raising your own daughter and letting her go to school is far too expensive, so when an older man offers to marry her a few years later, you are relieved and accept the offer.
bad view on women, the problems pile up if you have a girl. Families may afford to send two out of three children to school, while the last one has to stay home and help run the farm—usually a girl. Plan emphasizes that where children are doing bad, girls are doing the worst.
Being Poor is Expensive This story is based on what Anna Birgitte Kleven from Plan tells us. “Religion is not the cause of this; there are different religions within the affected countries”. The problem is that being poor is expensive. Poverty creates practical problems in everyday life that young girls and society pay the price for. The problems are passed on to the next generation and the poverty spiral remains unbroken.
Kicked Out After Birth Even though marriage is regarded as the way to a safe life, this is far from a guarantee. Anna Birgitte Kleven tells us about the child bride Dorothy who was kicked out by her own family in-law after giving birth. Their view of women reduced her to a birthing machine who had played its part. Many husbands also turn violent to discipline their wives because they believe it is their responsibility. The mental and physical trauma is often unfathomable and crush any hope for the victims to ever get an education or a job.
Gender Equality “Poor gender equality is one of the biggest driving forces [for child marriage]” says county campaign coordinator Hanne Giskehaug. A son is seen as an opportunity for the family, a daughter as a burden. It is not about love, because all parents love their children. But if you live in a country with a
Breaking the Cycle Can this destructive cycle be broken, and if so, how? The answer is that in some cases, it is already broken. Employees in Plan are working with local youth and adults
TUNTREET who travel home to families where child marriage is being planned or carried out. Conversations about the consequences and the lost opportunities a child marriage leads to are engaging to many. It is a new way to think, and Anna experiences that it can light a spark in those involved. After these conversations, young Dorothy became very engaged and preoccupied with her own future. Getting an education became a priority, and today she has a job in the city. Enlightenment Just like it is hard for us in Norway to understand the reasons behind child marriage, it can be hard for the parents
to see other options. Sharing knowledge contributes to an understanding of the consequences that arise and the opportunities that are being wasted. This is why enlightenment and establishing groups for parents and the youth is an important part of Plan’s work. Talking about what opportunities the girls have and the benefits it brings if they and their families are able to prioritize education, can break the cycle. In some places, this has resulted in “childmarriage free zones”. Conversations with religious and political leaders are also important for long-term change. A village chief that Anna tells us
about annulled 500 child marriages in his area. This kind of lobbyism is important. If you contribute to the TV campaign, you contribute to lobbyism towards the UN, among other things. Solutions Practical hindrances which can seem very small to us in Norway can be fatal in the target countries. Working to reduce absence from school is therefore very important. Free pads and tampons increase participation. Building toilets so girls do not have to go in a nearby bush, which can be dangerous, also helps.
PLAN INTERNATIONAL
Plan International is a non-profit organization that focuses on children, and girls in particular. Founded in 1937, and currently working in over 70 countries. Recipient for this year’s TV campaign, October 24th, which goes towards work against child marriage in Bangladesh, Nepal, Malawi, Mali and Niger.

THE ULTIMATE CHEAP COFFEE TEST
The Base Boys are back! This time, we’re diving into another set of the cheapest coffee on the market. The stakes are high – could any of these coffee blends actually be recommended to a broke NMBU student? P.S. As always, we brew through a Moccamaster as it is a commonly used coffee brewing appliance. The taste can vary if you prepare your coffee in a different way. Elina Turbina Journalist

XTRA – COOP Our first coffee is the Mr. Worldwide of the lineup! It has beans from all over the world, both Robusta and Arabica. And maybe we forgot what bad coffee smells like because we are impressed by the initial smell of the Xtra grounds! It is quite distinct and powerful, and AS and @ find it slightly better than the coffee from the previous taste test. The actual taste, however, is barely noticeable. As @ noted, “It tastes like water with hints of, like, tea”. But at least it isn’t soil, so E is satisfied with the brew for the first time. Smell out of 5: @-3 AS – 2 E–2
Taste out of 5: @-2 AS – 2.5 E – 2.5 Price: 67.6 kr per kg. ÄNGLAMARK ØKOLOGISK ARABICA “Nothing special,” says AS. In all honesty, when you taste so much bad coffee in a row you become numb to the badness. It does feel like the best coffee in this line up so far smell-wise though! Tastewise, it’s “edging” you, promising a flavor but leaving you with confusion and disappointment after drinking. Not the kind of coffee you’d expect with a 40 kr price tag, however, it feels like an environmentally conscious student would gravitate towards it regardless. And we can’t blame them.

This is the first time in the history of coffee that a package that claims to be ‘easy to open’ ends up actually being easy to open. Roasted in Vestby (!), the company claims to be ‘The environmentally-friendly roastery’ in Norway. Now we see by comparison that the Xtra coffee smells cheap. AS’s audible “mmm” indicates the smooth texture of the coffee, however, she does not think it is good coffee. @ agrees, saying that “it has a good swoosh in the mouth”. Whatever that means. Despite having a nice texture, the taste drags it down a lot.

“If you’re doing anything – do it 100%”
TWO BEERS If you haven’t heard of Åsa-Britt or seen an active, blonde girl from Bergen, running around Samfunnet around the times of UKA (and all the other times), it is certainly about time! The woman is no other than Tanita Skyttermoen Guldbrandsen. Drama, revue and acting is in her blood (and in a bachelor’s degree), but she ended up studying landscape architecture in Ås. Acting and theater from day one We are not surprised to find Tanita in the make-up and costume attic, which she says is her favorite room in Samfunnet. She has spent countless hours in here, and she thinks of both Samfunnet and her shared housing across the train tracks as “home”. It is clear from the beginning that the building has given her many experiences to be grateful for. The conversation already gives us a feeling of being part of the student life Tanita has experienced. The interest of drama came early and Tanita always knew she wanted to be an actress. She went straight to study drama in high school and after that there
was a short way to a bachelor in acting in London. Acting is for Tanita a way to tell another person’s story. Even though she didn’t end up with an acting career, she has learned a lot about empathy, compassion and understanding other people. From bachelor in London to master in Ås After the bachelor, the freelance life began, with all it’s highs and lows, and there were plenty of reminders that this was a challenging profession. There were three years with work – and enough economy to make you “know the tax administration by heart”. Tanita can still joke a bit about it, even though it was a great life experience. After a quarter life crisis and even reduced hearing, it was enough: Tanita needed a more stable job. She took half a year break in Sicily (which she strongly recommends for others too!) and then the hunt for a study program began – but what did she want to become? It wasn’t made clear before she found, in a tiny cozy white wooden house, an office for landscape architecture.
“Landscape architecture – dude, that sounds amazing!”. And just like that the actor life turned into a student life with a completely different subject. Tanita has not regretted it one bit. First impression of Ås Tanita knew nothing of Ås and remembers how her first impression was that Aud.Max. was a very sad building. That view has of course changed now that she has been a part of everything that happens on the inside! Her interests were quickly shared between the photography committee, NGA and Bergensforeninga Breiflabben. After a while, there was a generational change in NGA, and the actor from Bergen felt called to join IVAR. After two years in each choir, Tanita is now a gammelrøy. She sees it as part of her studies coming to an end, to let the younger students take the place and get the experiences. The revue adventure begins But if there was one thing that Tanita couldn’t miss being a part of, it was the UKE-revue.
TWO BEERS She was on stage as a part of the revue group in 2018, and her tone is warm and her smile wide when she talks of that time. After the revue in 2018, she was done acting in revues, but she was absolutely not done with revues! During the UKErevue 2020, her job was behind the stage as a revue assistant. Tanita is excited and she thinks it is just as interesting to work behind the stage as on it. She wrote many of the skits for the revues of 2018 and 2020 and you get the impression that she still has plenty of ideas ready. Today, she is the Head of Revue in Samfunnet, and works with Agrarmetropodden – Samfunnet’s own podcast! Other than her studies, revue and acting, she loves to bathe and misses a good bathing place in Ås. The theme of her masters is bathing places!
Tanitas memorable roles as Erna and Åsa-Britt are immortalized in Samfunnet’s costume attic
Åsa-Britt – won everyone’s hearts If there is anybody who has played many roles, it has got to be Tanita. But a more known and cherished role then Åsa-Britt Johansen can’t be found in Ås. Tanita tells us that Åsa-Britt was pure improvisation during the rehearsals for mini-UKA 2018. Gradually, the old lady develops in the actor’s mind, with good help from the rest of the revue ensemble. A Facebook profile was made and lots of fun were posted, especially in the Facebook group Ås communes venner – everything in the

true spirit of Åsa-Britt! Tanita can reveal that the students are not the only ones who love Åsa-Britt – the profile even got messages from old men in search of love. Tanita laughs about the whole thing, and seems to really care for this old, funny lady. She tells us about a big, old white wooden house by Korsegården, which she thinks must be Åsa-Britt’s home. Tanita drove past it one day, and saw it was renovated. Tanita seems a bit sad that Åsa-Britt may be gone, before she remembers that she could have found herself an elderly home or an apartment with an elevator. Where she has gone, only time can tell… Just try it! If there is anything Tanita is left with after her time in Ås, it is definitely that the environment is so diverse. She has rediscovered her passion for acting and discovered that you just have to jump into things and try them, and at the same time, there is room for error. Ås has taught her to also give others the same space to be themselves and try and fail. A mistake Tanita thinks the made, was trying to write an erotic short-story for Tuntreet. She is not tempted to try again! The good thing is that there is always position to take at Samfunnet instead. “If you’re doing anything – do it 100%”.
TWO BEERS
Greetings for Tanita TRALALALANITA
Dear Tanita. As I am writing this, I am sitting with a smile on my face. Because, that’s the kind of person you are, the one you get really happy thinking of and even happier spending time with. Through everyday life, lunch breaks, group assignments and study trips, you are always the one to join in on the fun and always the one to give a smile. In addition to being awfully good at everything you do, you are a rare combination of humor, curiosity, wisdom, empathy, patience, ability to communicate and commitment. No less. As your classmate, I find it hard no not use these qualities to my own advantage. For instance, by using you as a sparring partner for my silly ideas and thoughts, text editor and a guide in life generally. You make people around you think and reflect, and you always have a positive comment and good constructive criticism to give. I will maybe never be able to repay all the good help you offer, but I will continue to do my best with coffee and cozy times for the time being. It has been an honor to spend four years of my studies in Ås with you and I’m looking forward to the rest of our last year in Akropolis! A big hug and a good cup of coffee from Natalie
Tanita, Jåsspeisen, Tanitix, Talentina, Ms. Gold, Ås’ Beyoncé, Queen, God, cherished lady, many names. You came through the door as Carolina to be a UKA-actor in 2018, and we have all been captured by your stormy winds ever since. Well, since then you’ve managed to creep deep into our hearts, and we feel that we have managed to creep into our heart too. You know that stuff, making us feel nice and good, and you have one of those smiles that just make you feel at home immideately. And despite your incredible talent, your inexhaustible creative brain and your lovely nature, you’re always humble and have far too few diva moments (one every once in a while you have to allow yourself ). Ås does well with you in charge of both this and that, because, in addition to all the crazy ideas, you manage to keep everything in order. You are a complete package. And we should be thankful, because imagine all you have done to give the people of Ås good entertainment, especially revue! You say it well: «I have used far too much time on this, considering that it’s just nonsense!». But if there is anything we have benefited from, it is all the nonsense you think of. We are looking forward to year after year with more Tanita, on stage, behind manuscripts, on screens, on radio, on visits, on a picnic in a self-drawn park (possibly on the Sotra bridge) and in our hearts. The warmest hug you can imagine from Ingrid and Synneva and the rest of your revue crowd.
Dear Tanita Wow! The best! Good as gold, that’s you! Tanita, you’re a jack of all trades! You have conjured an easter crime story, Norwegian National Championship in student revue and a true crime and conspiracy-revealing Halloween special! She is quite simply the cornerstone in our creative machinery. A little over half a year ago, you sat down to write a radio crime story lasting five to ten minutes. Today, you have built up a manuscript portfolio longer than an average master’s thesis. Following your wirting projects has been like trying to remember how tall ceiling ofAud. Max. is. Still, your ambitious projects have not been any bother, rather the opposite! As long as one is working with you, it doesn’t matter how long it takes. In a way, it can be compared to eating a chicken baguette with curry sauce: it doesn’t matter how long it takes, because you enjoy every bite. Thats what she said! No, wait. I lost my train of thought. Anyways – it’s not that important! The point is: We take off our helmets and lick the dust. You’re working harder than Rudolf Risvang, have a voice prettier than Kåre Cortado and a working spirit bigger than Jonny from Stovner. No matter if we’re talking about the producer of the revue championship, author of radio theater, or just someone you met at Click. You’re a delight to exist alongside. A big hug from us, In Agrarmetropodden’s drama department.

UNWANTED NIGHT GUESTS If you have been checking your Facebook feed from time to time, you might have noticed an unusually large number of posts unrelated to parties and forgotten phones in Fest-telegrafen. Many dorms have been receiving visits from unwanted guests that result in stolen property. Tuntreet talked to some of the victims to figure out what is going on at Pentagon. Elina Turbina Journalist
The ABC of coconut theft We’re invited to visit one of the housings in ABC, where Marius, a first-year Urban Agriculture student, has been living for the past couple of months. After moving into his new dorm, he decided to decorate the common area with plants, so he bought a monstera and a coconut plant because “coconuts are good vibes”. The night these plants found their new spot by the big window in front of the balcony, Marius went to sleep early. When he woke up the next morning, he was surprised to find out that the door to the balcony was open, and the coconut plant was nowhere to be found. “It was not more than 12 hours since I got the plant,” noted Marius, “[losing a newly purchased plant] was an emotional rollercoaster.” After checking other dorms in hopes of finding the coconut plant, Marius decided to write in Fest-telegrafen and, to his surprise, the next morning the plant was waiting for

him at the porch. Now the collective always locks their doors. “We had been concerned that some of us were using the balcony door as the entrance at the beginning of the semester, and one of the roommates said we should wait until somebody steals something to establish rules about closing the doors. Three days later the plant was gone”. In this uncomfortable situation, Marius got support and sympathy from fellow students and even his professor, who proposed a GoFundMe to get a new coconut plant. After this experience, Marius seems to still hold a belief in humankind but acknowledges that it is sad that his collective must now be afraid of another visit. Shamelessly hungry In Mølla, Eivind found himself in a similar situation. His story begun one Wednesday night, when he made two sizeable vegetable lasagnas, freezing one of them for later and leaving another one in the fridge. Despite
usually locking the doors in the evening, this time the collective forgot to do so. The next morning, while preparing breakfast, Eivind found out that the lasagna was gone from the fridge. “At first, I thought to myself - What? Didn’t I remember to put it here yesterday evening? But I could clearly remember making space in my shelves to fit the whole lasagna form.” After realizing that the meal was stolen, Eivind wrote posts in Første mann til Mølla and Fest-telegrafen to ask for the guilty person to come clean and bring the form back. The empty lasagna form was left for Eivind to find in a chair in the hallway outside his dorm some days later, yet no person came forward to take responsibility for their wrongdoing. “I am glad to get my form back [and] I will be completely fine without my lasagna, but in principle, I am irritated by the rudeness shown, and then later by the lack of will to take responsibility for their actions”, stated Eivind.

The comment from SiÅs Tuntreet reached out to the board of SiÅs for a comment on the increased amount of theft in the student housings. Here is what the Chairman of SiÅs, Selma Sollihagen, said on the matter:
The thief left the lasagna form outside Eivind’s dorm
“This is a concern we are aware of, and we agree with you that this is absolutely not okay. It is important for us that students feel safe in their accommodations and that they should be able to safely store their belongings. All SiÅS housing should be able to remain locked for those with no reason to be inside, both through the main entrance and through each individual resident’s room. In the majority of the accommodations, the stairwells are also guarded with locks. (…) Students should talk with their housemates to decide on rules and procedures for when the doors should remain locked and how to avoid them remaining unlocked. If a break-in does happen, we encourage the victim to report it to the police. In situations like these, SiÅs will give the police access to any relevant information they have. For the student, we have people they can talk to at the student life coordinators or the health centre as experiencing such an uncomfortable and
intrusive situation may leave them in need of processing what happened. To conclude, I would like to mention that if there should be any faults with the door locks, we strongly encourage our residents to report this to us immediately. This will be highly prioritised by our operating staff, as this could affect the students’ safety, and that is something we take seriously.” New Rules The dorms of Marius and Eivind are now locking their doors every evening, thanks to these instances and the overall increase in theft in the student housing. There is a shared sense of discomfort knowing that Pentagon is no longer as secure as it used to be. And even though these were somewhat lucky cases, we should not take for granted the kind of habitat we’re falling into. Here are some words of wisdom: if you want to do something stupid, don’t. If you’re doing dumb things while drunk, be brave enough to take responsibility for your actions in the morning. If you think it is acceptable to steal from a fellow student – think about the kind of student environment you’re contributing to. And if you are leaving to a party – make sure you lock the doors and place the keys somewhere you can access even when you’re drunk.

DO THE BUILDINGS IN SKOGVEIEN NEED NAMES? Benjamin Alexander Faulkner Journalist
Pauline Hovland Photographer Alexander Mæland Munkejord Translator
Trendy Wooden Constructions It did not take long before students of the Agrarmetropole found their way to Skogveien’s upscaled wood houses and made themselves at home. They were either hopeful and fresh students, or refugees from Pentagon tired of worn-down brick walls and lousy living conditions. Many will agree that the apartments are designed as solutions to problems that, for example, Barken and Veden struggle with; that the buildings are shaped like weird rectangular caves 36 Edition 08 Volume 76
with the opening out to the parking lot. In contrast, many of the collectives in Skogveien have a more divided room structure, for different purposes. Less institutional and more home-like, one might say. But there is something that feels different; something immaterial. The buildings have no names. Are Names Necessary? Humans have a natural tendency to name physical objects like “shoelace” or “shotting ski”. We simply cannot help it, for how else are we supposed to refer to things and make it easy to communicate with others? When we ramble about in our physical dimension it is practical to remember places, and it can be helpful to name them, like Kringla or Mølla or ABC or Høvleriet or Krona. But it can be impractical too. I met someone in Skogveien who told me she wanted to
TUNTREET order pizza to the collective at Pentagon, but she had no idea what street number she was supposed to order to; after all, she’s never had any use for it. Wood At Skogveien After these short but meaningful meetings with random residents of Skogveien, I was under the impression that people do not really care about names. Unlike Pentagon, where eyebrows can be raised or lowered whether you live at Inferno or Krona, the collectives at Skogveien are more similar to each other, visually. They mostly consist of four walls of massive wood, with straight angled corners, all the same height, with window curtains specifically colored for each building, and they give the feeling of living in a shoebox of refined pine. What difference does it make, living in 18A or 18B? It is also well arranged, as the building numbers get higher the closer they are to Skogveien. It is both simple and practical. SiÅs Says SiÅs have discussed the question of names in meetings. They worry that residents will be confused. Let us say that someone in your collective is lying unconscious on the floor, and you want to call an ambulance, or the bread in the oven is on fire. But all you know is that you are on the 3rd floor of the Carrot Banana. That is not very helpful to the emergency services. The one or two minutes you spend looking for the building can be crucial. Pentagonic Thinking It will be exciting to see the outcome of the discussion. Will SiÅs follow tradition and name the buildings, for example after wood-types – or is this a transformation? It needs to be said that names are rarely used regarding Eplehagen, for example. The buildings all look the same, so why would they be separated by arbitrary, apple-related names? Are names expired? In that case, it might be time for us to stand up and pay a wet tribute to our very own Pentagonic naming system. Few places in this country have a naming system for buildings like we have here in Ås, along with its sibling buildings Tivoli and Sirkus. It might not be very logical and practical, but it is still a pleasant source for wonder and frustration in our day-to-day lives. Edition 08 Volume 76 37

DOES EVERYONE (still) HATE UNITY? The room was packed at Unity’s jubilee revue on Friday, October 8th. Do that many people really hate Unity? Even though we journalists are supposed to maintain objectivity, we must admit that even we go to the revue with certain prejudices. Will they convince us that we really love Unity in our own special way, as they advertised on their Facebook event?
Sofie Bergset Janols Journalist
Naked boys slathered in baby oil running through the room and up on stage. A thoroughly coordinated racket dance where you (almost) never see a penis, despite many opportunities for a little “dick-slip”. Unity’s first act promises a naughty show with a high nudity-factor. Pretty much as expected. What is more exciting is whether the revue will offer a bit more entertainment than what fit, naked bodies can provide. Some Dressed Skits Imagine that! In the next skit, the clothes are actually on, and Unity shows its humorous side. In a “call round of Ås” they ask SiÅs if they increase the rent so that students are be unable to afford food, and if Rævne wears the sixpence to hide hair loss. The skit is good, and here they warm up those in the audience who were not charmed by the racket dance. We smile a little when they 38 Edition 08 Volume 76

“call” us in Tuntreet and ask if it is true that everyone actually hates Unity (“oooh, so they do!”). Here, the punchline is nicely tied to the theme of the revue, and we must admit to being a bit impressed. The skits “SiÅs” and “New in Ås” were also hits among the audience. Here, they joke about how SiÅs are demanding 15000kr for a broken table, and they mess with various student leaders. Then Unity loses its touch just a bit. The skit about the student who doesn’t like Unity and therefore must be kidnapped and burn-marked could’ve been fun, but is a little bit too long. The FFproposal and rose handout with the song “Unity’s Back Alright” charms FF, but not the rest of the room. The marketable golf scene where a ball is being hit from a naked butt does not get a massive response either. It can however be tied to a common theme.
Sofie Palmstrøm Translator
The Common Theme The common theme that we see throughout the revue is that Unity plays on the stereotypes. Here, they are very good at meeting the prejudices towards the union, something that indicates good self-reflection. Or maybe they aren’t really playing at all, but are just being themselves 110%. We are not really sure, but choose to give them the benefit of the doubt. If there is one skit where Unity really catches the essence of their reputation, it is the parody of Luksusfellen (a Norwegian TV show about people with questionable spending habits). Here, they are spot-on about what to expect from Unity boys: high spending factor, sushi dinners every day, tailored brand clothes, and the daddy bank. Because nobody ever thought that the Unity boys had saved their money or
TUNTREET bought their clothes second-hand “like certain other unions?”. In the middle of this skit, a somewhat unnecessary line comes up, about renting “hookers, no, strippers”. That was simply a bit too cringe. Some Okay Performances Then, a few okay performances follow, some with the clothes on, some with the clothes off. First, we get a YMCA-inspired song about how Unity is not like most people, but more like douchebags from the west side of Oslo. Here we get macho vibes, humping motions, and blue elephant panties. Pretty much as expected from Unity, really. But at this point in time, we begin to feel that our quota for Unity’s naked show is beginning to fill up. We miss a more authentic revue and intellectual stimulus. And we get some of that in the next skit, NMBU for beginners. Here, a (fullydressed) guy with sunglasses gives us tips for the ultimate NMBU experience. The NMBU letters on campus are compared to the Hollywood sign, and Pentagon is compared to the Brazilian favela and/or your very own catwalk. We then get to see the unwanted reopening babies of IVAR and Rævne, FF and Unity, Breiflabb and Løgnaslaget, and at the end Ås Feministiske and Hankattene. We smile a little bit, and the audience does too. But the skits receive a somewhat lukewarm response. This may imply that Unity hasn’t managed to get the audience to love them just yet.
Hate Them, Hate Them Not So, was Unity’s jubilee revue able to convince the audience? Does everyone really love Unity, in their own special way? Or does everyone still hate Unity? At least we have gotten a bit better aquainted with them. If you, like us, expected Unity’s jubilee revue to more or less be blonde daddy’s boys running around naked, you were not wrong. But there was more to it than just macho vibes and nudity. Even though we missed some classical revue skits, we think that Unity delivered an entertaining show that met our expectations – and then some.
Finishes on Top For many, a somewhat unexpected highlight was a rock concert from the Broderband itself. We must admit that we initially, like many others, thought it was playback. But – it was in fact live. It became evident that the fraternity had been practicing and the performance was good. At least we were impressed. The whole room stood up too, and we could see nodding and dancing among the audience. The Umbrella/Magic Mike-dance was also a hit. The Unity boys have dancing skills. Perhaps they should transition from the revue genre to concert/ dance performances? The grand finale in the revue involves Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball”, a sledgehammer, and the duck house. A throwback to when Unity smashed the duck house in their 2013-revue. But fear not, it was only a replica both then and now. Still, it’s a strangely good coincidence that the duck house mysteriously disappeared this week. Edition 08 Volume 76 39

Internfest at Samfunnet The first “normal” party in 562 days
On Saturday, 25 September, the pandemic restrictions were lifted, and the requirement to keep a distance of 1 meter to the person next to you disappeared. This had to be celebrated, and the next Monday Samfunnet’s Internfest was hosted! Body search and wristband exchange The mood in the line outside Aud.Max was almost palpable. A loud sound and light committee, led by a British king, was the first squad to enter. The theme of the party was “around the world”, and the various blocks were allowed to let their creativity unfold. Everything from The Club’s Australian hipster baristas, aliens, Britons and Danes found their way to Aud.Max. Not only to celebrate life without restrictions, but also their own voluntary efforts. It came as a shock to some that you once again had to be body-searched before entering the party. During the entire pandemic, only visual inspections have been carried out to prevent infection and people from bringing illegal substances inside. The wristband service was also back to normal – now you don’t have to put them on yourself! Lots of hugs, a few too many? For many people, it was finally possible to hug friends again. The foyer was filled with people who wanted, and not to mention could, talk with whom they wanted. The rules saying that you had to sit by the same table all night and not stand up were gone. Now, everyone could hug their old and new friends without the fear of contagion. Whether everyone liked to finally be able to hug again is another matter. For these people, jenka may be the perfect post-pandemic hug. Varying prices During the night the beer price wheel was spun several times, which at times made very long queues in the bars. Other times, Rund and Vinkel was almost as abandoned as during the pan-demic. The prices for Samfunnet’s Games were awarded, as well as other honorary awards. Bjørn-Eirik Roald (Head of Sound) and Johannes Fjeldså (Carbon Accountant) were awarded the price for the Spring semester’s best Head of a committee. And Eivind Frøyland Skjennum re-ceived the award for the Spring semester’s best committee member. “DJ Knokejern” aka Even Brede Sillerud continued the night with a laser show and the docking sequence from Interstellar and maintained the heat of the dance floor throughout the night. The atmosphere was amazing, but maybe not comparable to the days and parties after the war. In reality, not much had changed since the previous Friday. The only difference was that you could stand by your table, walk over to others, and hug a friend. PS. Tuntreet took many pictures in front the photo wall throughout the evening. by the decade: the 00s It’s the decade I have been the most excited about! Now we get to the wildest front pages, the most risque cases, and the largest internal changes to Tuntreet. The format changes as Tuntreet goes from being Samfunnet’s newspaper to becoming a university magazine. The pages become wider, the layout gets more spicy, the pictures become digital, and finally: the pages get more colour. Let us dive into the wild and beautiful adventure that is 00s Tuntreet!

Editors The current system of two editors is now initiated. First, you are elected as managing editor (responsible for the content) on a half-year term, before continuing as editorin-chief (responsible for everything) the following semester. This has allowed for a smooth transition and has let the system survive until today—almost like apostolic succession. As a footnote, I would like to mention that it was not until the 2000s that it was allowed to dismiss motions from the floor at Studentsamfunnet’s General Assembly. Set content «Two beers» gains its current format as a personality-based interview of well-known Ås locals. During this period, the people were found in various places, with subjects like employees, departing board members, newly elected ones, internationals, alumni, and everything in-between. I particularly appreciate those completely unexpected and peculiar subjects who were elected. There is not just one type of student. Rotskudd is paired up with the leader articles for most editions. Amongst other various content, “dyrehagen” is retired and will later be substituted by the “lag og foreninger-spalta” (teams and association-column). 2003 In 2003, Tuntreet does a 180 and takes on a more magazine-like style, in addition to reintroducing the traditional Tuntre logo from before 1968. The accented «e» is turned into a normal «e» to make better 42
use of the space on the front page. The magazine becomes broader, the pictures larger, and there is less text. The webpage is also updated to match the new design, which is also worth a mention. At the time, they were working with 32 pages, although more text was on each page with 4 columns instead of today’s 3. The «articles in brief» are introduced the same year, which, as explained in the name, are shortened, translated versions of a select few articles of the edition. Tuntreet is also starting to play around with radio broadcasts in 2003. Still, the most important event of that year is Tuntreet entering an agreement with the Norwegian College of Agriculture (NLH) to act as their university newspaper, with increased funding. In other words: Tuntreet ends their members-only mailbox distribution venture and becomes free of charge on racks around campus. The economy Jan-Olav Øderud was editor-in-chief in 2003 and spoke of how the agreement consisted of NLH buying pages in Tuntreet. Meanwhile, they got more advertisement income, and Tuntreet was on a steady course, financially speaking. The following
editor-in-chief, Erlend Guldbrandsen, says the economy after that would be fluctuating a bit. The financial support from the college would continue, albeit to a certain extent reduced. Nonetheless, the entire period had free on-campus Tuntreet distribution. Tuntreet som provokatør Jan-Olav was very interested in politics and wanted Tuntreet to be an active participant in debates as a party not scared of being provocative. One of his opinions was that Tuntreet should be less dependent on Studentsamfunnet. He also had other causes he was vocal about, like how he felt it unnecessary that committee members were to be perceived as public representatives for Studentsamfunnet instead of ordinary
BY THE DECADE
party attendees. It may have gone a bit too far when TT’s journalist got kicked out of Samfunnet instead of reviewing Harald Eia’s standup show after he had one beer too many. Apart from that, a debate arose on the topic of admissions requirements to the economics degree, and Samfunnnet’s use of funds for sound equipment. NLH becomes UMB If there is one topic that is particularly hot at the time, it is whether NLH should become a university. This is realized after a while and with it, new debates arise. Should the Norwegian School of Veterinary Sciences (NVH) become a part of the University of Life Sciences (UMB)? Should campus Ås and Adamstuen be merged? What was supposed to be a ten-year plan would develop into a 14-year plan. The use of the A-F scale of grading is implemented, and so is the block system, which is still used today. The Biotechnology building, which has held the nickname Biopalasset throughout its building period, is also finalized. In regards to Samfunnet, we can mention an incident in 2005 where there was a real chance of it losing its license to serve. The
alcohol inspection took note of serving an excessively intoxicated person, but those responsible of the party claimed that they were never made aware of this and that the inspection was therefore unlawfully executed. It was their words against those of the alcohol inspection, so the municipality of Ås turned the note into a warning. The Bodega became a no-smoking zone in 2003. The 2004 logo of UKA was designed at the Tuntre office. Layout and front pages In the second half of the 00Ss, we observe a particularly specific front page and layout culture emerge. I will have a quick chat with the head of layout and editor-in-chief Siri Lundsett. She tells me that there was an emerging want to move away from the rigid newspaper structure which had been used up until that time. Se og Hør, Det Nye, and other women’s magazines are mentioned as sources of inspiration of that time. The change was significantly facilitated by more powerful software. Most importantly, it had to be fun. Ellinor Aas, who made the frog front page, explains that there was no specific strategy, they just worked with
what they had. Gaining attention was just an added bonus. Ellinor also mentions that some of the more questionable layouts could be explained by the quality of the pictures being rather lacking at the time, and it was instead attempted hidden by some funny page setups. Technical difficulties The middle of the decade was affected by large technical issues. Like now, the magazine was compiled during a layout weekend. On one occasion, Siri tells me that on Sunday evening, they lost everything that was compiled in InDesign, and straight-up had to start all over again from scratch. When the computers at the Tuntre office were down, they would use the ones at Ur the entire night. The magazine would be submitted at 6 am. A dire moment was when Tuntreet’s entire archives were attempted moved to Linux, which did not go well. Luckily, Tuntreet received funding for new computers shortly after. All in all, this was a decade full of excitement. Following the noughties, we will move into a decade where I myself have taken part in Tuntreet. So what actually characterizes this decade? Loads of silliness. And massive photo pages. Follow us as we venture into the 2010s!

Tun and Things Storebrand and Lillebrand is completed by October 22nd Storebrand has been under reconstruction all spring, summer, and fall. The facilities were overgrown and under-used but are soon complete again. The grass mat was laid about a month ago but will not be used until the grass has grown quite a bit. Many improvements have been made, including a tartan running track, a Tuftepark (apparatus for calisthenics), and two volleyball courts. Lillebrand will still be a gravel field, and an ice range will be made there by the municipality in winter.
The 8th Stentor is in the works Studentsamfunnet i Ås’ beloved songbook will be released in a new edition. The Stentor was first made in 1937 and has since been re-released 7 times. The book is very helpful for those who don’t know all Ås’ varied local songs by heart. The composers are Ruben Rygh, Oscar Mork, and Erik Sand, they gladly welcome input on which songs should be sung in the hearty Bodega. The propositions can be delivered vocally to the composers or by mail to eriksand95@gmail.com.

Headless statue The statue The veterinarian at a Carnival in Venice is headless as of right now. The head has been deconstructed because an electrician is installing an electric motor so that the head can move. The already frightening piece of art is becoming even creepier! You can read more about the piece and other artwork on campus on pages 9-11 in TT06.
Wandering Duckhouse Andehuset, (the Duckhouse) belonging to Hankattene, has been through a lot throughout the years. The obvious paint jobs from various social clubs and others, as well as being blown up, drowned, and now kidnapped. Instantly, many suspected Unity, as they have previously taken Andehuset for their revue. Tuesday, October 11th, Andehuset showed up in the Meierikryss. Our sources inform us that after a car chase, Andehuset is now back in Hankattenes protection.

PRIESTLY THOUGHTS
Yes, thank you, it’s alright? You ask How it’s going And I wonder If one day I Will tell you That I don’t know How I can Explain what I have inside When it is so dark That I can’t see What’s what Yes, thank you It’s alright - Trygve Skaug I use this poem by Trygve Skaug a lot to remind myself to be honest about life. To dare to be honest when things are going well, but also when things are not so great. When I am scrolling a little too much on Instagram and the seemingly perfect and idyllic feed is making me feel down, is a good example of when I need to be reminded of its message. «Why is everyone always having such a great time?» Times like these are when the poem can remind me that it’s not necessarily like that—that everyone around me is having a great time, even if it might look like that at first glance. It can also help me take a closer look at those around me. Sometimes it allows me to be there for someone who might not have dared ask for help themselves. Other times, it is I who has felt the darkness and needs someone to see me. As I am writing this, it is the celebration of World Mental Health Day at NMBU. A whole week with different events and happenings to put mental health on the agenda. This is great, but what about the remaining weeks of the year? We need to be able to be honest with each other throughout the year too. We need for our feeds to not always show perfect moments. Do you dare to be one of those who can also show vulnerability? I’m trying that out myself. Sometimes it works, other times I just can’t do it. And that’s okay. But if we are more people doing it, it will become a lot easier. As a student priest, I talk to many different students. Some are dealing with heartbreak, some are lonely, some are incredibly happy, some need to breathe for a bit, and some have no idea why they felt the need to come to see me. All these reasons are valid and okay. The student priests are here for you to talk with when life gets too much or not enough. Maybe the first step in being transparent about how you’re really feeling is to stop by and have a chat with me? It is a safe space where you can fully be yourself, with all that it entails, and what we discuss will remain between the two of us. I promise to listen and to be with you. In light and darkness. Ingrid, the student priest Ingrid U. Øygard NMBU and Sigurd A. Bakke are the student priests. Their office is in the basement of Urbygningen. They are available if you need someone to talk to, seek advice or have a discussion. The office is open on Wednesdays from 11:00 to 15:00, but also available other days. Appointments are made through: io484@kirken. no , 95919318 eller Sigurd: sigurd.a.bakke@nmbu. no , 99015790

Chairman’s column «SiÅs will make sure that our operations are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals» is said in our strategy plan. This is further specified in the goals we have set for housing in that we will «build student accommodations of cross laminated timber». The construction business is often called the 40 per cent business as it is responsible of 40 per cent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, raw material extraction and waste. As those responsible for construction, we have put the climate and environment as vital factors in the process of developing and building the Skogveien student housing. Choosing environment and climate measures are always a demanding process as
they always have to be weighed against other factors. It’s about finding the right balance where the measures don’t affect other values in a negative way. In order to follow the strategy, we have decided to construct using cross laminated timber, make use of low carbon concrete and recycled steel. Now that the project has been finalised, we want to know the effect of those choices made in consideration of sustainability, in terms of a climate footprint. Therefore, a climate accounting analysis is now being executed for the new Skogveien accommodation, where the greenhouse emissions with ties to the construction and the building is analysed through their entire life course. This will be an important tool in
understanding whether our decisions have contributed towards reaching our strategic goals. Additionally, it could help discovering areas for improvement. We are looking forward to receiving the final results, which will be made public once finalised. I am looking forward to presenting the results to you once they are finished!
Chairman of SiÅs, Selma Sollihagen

This shape has two possible solutions. We can place one of them, while the others we have to wait with. We can still colour some opportunities outside of the shape.
This column now has two places where a star has to be placed, and we can colour the remaining boxes.
This box has two possible solutions, but as column 5 already has a sar, we can ignore x1, and decide on x2 (as there is max. 2 stars). The side can be coloured and we can keep looking.

Nonograms are picture logic puzzles in which cells in a grid must be colored or left blank according to numbers at the side of the grid to reveal a hidden picture. The numbers tell how many cells which should be connected. Between these should be at least one empty cell. If there are more than one solution on a row, you can see if they have some coloured cells in common. You can fill these in and maybe that will help you fill another row or column.

Since the last time we spoke, our association has turned 10, something we celebrated with both a birthday breakfast and a tapas dinner. Now, the members of Collegium Alfa are well on our way with the preparations to our 10-year-anniversary revue. For the occasion, we went on a trip to a cabin to start brainstorming. The revue will take place on the 12th of November and we’re hoping you will all come see our revue. Additionally, we’ve had an incerdibly fun autumn this far, with shindigs (vors?) with both Unity, PB and Gents Academy. We’re having a lot of fun now that association life has returned and that Samfunnet has opened again. We’re looking forward to the remaining days of autumn here at Ås <3 As per usual, we’ve added something for you to have a go at. What do these words have in common? 1. Zodiacs - Maria - Virgin 2. On the 11/11/2011, the association for real gentlemen was founded in the Agrarian Metropole. Through 10 years has Gents Academy aimed to bring back and maintain the forgotten values of gentlemen. Through a decade, Gents Academy has made boys into men here in Ås. Our diversity has enriched the cultural and venerable atmosphere. Our values have contributed to the development of a more inclusive and fitting student society amongst fields and forests. We have completed an ever-forgotten behaviour, namely a gentleman’s behaviour. Through a decade of events, we have worked to spread our values to our fellow students in the Agrarian Metropole. On 11/11/2021 we turn 10, with a good establishment of values characterised by decency, politeness and a high level of style established by us as a significant association. This will be continued by us in the coming decades.

Weakened abortion rights in Texas have been a prominent feature on the news as of late. Women in Texas may not be able to have an abortion past week 6. At that time, the embryo is the same size as a small pea, and it is not unusual to not be aware that one is pregnant. The fight continues! We encourage everyone to support this year’s TV-Aksjon Barn ikke brud, to fight child marriages. As explained in the TT-article about the fundraising event: “where children are doing bad, girls are doing the worst”. Child marriage is a gender inequality problem! Since the last time, we have arranged several accessible embroidery workshops where we have made great feminist slogans and symbols. You’re very welcome to join our next event! A greeting in solidarity, Ås Feministiske Studenter

Roses are red, violets are blue. The price of parking increased, so now the sound of our voices will too! The price for car parking is set and the bikes are asked to take up less space. Is it fair that one should make oneself smaller and pay the same? We say no! In order to make things right, parking for MCs in Skogveien should be better arranged and also better opportunities for parking at Pentagon. Let us not cave and pay for that. We will now fight for better rights! NMBU MC

Ennio – Ola Borten Moe is the new Minister of Education.....Could you hand me the stress ball? these are the facts the status of hankattene has declined further and further. People have been tired of their attitudes for a long time, and I’m sorry to say, but now they can’t even control their house anymore. Their reign has fallen, and we’ve reached the point where they either need to get their attitudes in check for 2021, or just give up. Srsly Chill, if you have been at Ås for longer than five seconds you know that this is not the first time the house disappears. Hankattene are in better shape than they have been for a long time. Mothafucka, now gotta see Who are all these thieves who’ve enrolled in our university?? Willoch Which thefts? Hungry and mad How come økonomikantina and hjerterommet have been shut down? Do the students not have a majority in the board of SIÅS Taco nights “I’m wondering what’s going on behind the boiler there?” Hedda Here we go again, Rice. That staff at NMBU are publicly speaking out against you in the media is not exactly strengthening your reputation. I’m becoming more and more sceptical to this... Drunk at revue Why were there no advertisements about free drinks at the FF revue? Someone told me there was no punch line. M. I get more and more embarrassed about being a student at NMBU every time Curt Rice opens his mouth. . After the article in the last Tuntreet, can we just agree on Unity being some damn bullshit?
