The ås illness Here we go again. The Agrarian Metropolis is teeming with aged circus horses and young tivoli foals. The buddy week is already in the past, and although the dust has settled, you can still observe cross-eyed gazes and unstable gaits wherever you go. The lectures are constantly disturbed by intense coughing and overwhelming sneezing. Latex gloves are borrowed from the labs as a precaution against infection. The sly Ås illness is vigorous, even after the last traces of the hangover is long gone. With the bacterial fauna from every district, farm, underground station and parking lot, it comes as no surprise that the body will be put to the test during cramped social interactions, where both beer and cigarettes are shared brotherly. If one also considers the bacteria that arrives from all over the world, you will start to gain an understanding of the synchronized illness within your dorm.
Precautions are of course the preferred action, but be warned that it is a cumbersome affair. Still, you should keep some of these advices in the back of your mind: If someone offers you to take a sip of their drink, be sure to have a straw handy. Remember to squeeze the straw, so the majority of the bacteria will be stuck in the narrow slit. When borrowing cigarettes you should invest in a cigarette holder at least 30 centimeters long. The bacteria will die during the long journey, and your lungs will only be filled with pure tobacco smoke. Hopefully, you are on the edge of recovery while reading this, and well prepared for whenever the Ås illness arrives again. Coincidentally, this usually happens around the Christmas finals. Good luck!

Tuntreet wishes Sigurd Bakke welcome Julie Westergaard Karlsen Journalist
He has been hospital priest, seaman priest, prison priest, and has helped police and drug users. Now, Sigurd Andreas has come to NMBU to help the students. Sigurd Bakke is “new” on Campus, but there are probably some who know Sigurd Bakke from before. He has, in 24 years, been a parish priest in Ås and vicar in Nordby, and was last half year a substitute until the new student priest came. As many others at Ås, it suddenly became a few years more. That it was not planned that Sigurd was going to take over for Øystein Spilling from the start, is hard to believe, as he is made for the job. He is an Åsing, he has a daughter who just graduated NMBU, and a former professor with the Norwegian Forest and Landscape Institute. Since Sigurd started the first of August, he wished the new students welcome during the international buddy week, at graskurs and via visits to the different faculties.
Ester Alida Vold Photographer and translator
He also met a lot of people during the first half year, as a substitute, people were visiting for guidance. “People ask about everything,” Tells Sigurd. Everything from death, exam anxiety, heartbreak, and what to ask the student counsels has confused the students. “And I also talk a lot of English. It has been great, to meet new people from other countries.” Sigurd is in many ways sliding straight into the students: he bikes to the university, gathers butterflies, and wrote his masters as late as in 2013. Without his priest education, he is further educated in soul grief. This, combined with his long experience with talking about what is hard and painful, makes him well equipped to deal with every question and problem that an Ås student could be struggling with. To begin with the focus to Sigurd lays with getting settled as a student priest – and the conversations.
The student priest is to find for conversation in the priest location in the clock building to the left in the basement, every Wednesday between 12:00 and 14:00. You can also contact him the phone 99015790 and sigurd.a.bakke@nmbu. no

But he will always be focused. To have someone confidential to talk to is very important, that is something we both agree on. After some time, he could also see himself using more time on quiet work. Retreat in the daily life, he calls it. It is when you take a half hours break in peace and quiet, to reflect about a text or the big questions like “Where is God present in my life?” and “What do I think about life?” After you get the opportunity to discuss what you are thinking and feeling with a guider. “It can help you think small on the bigger things. To size it down to a level that fits you. It is important to take yourself serious,” Sigurd explains. Even if I did not have something difficult to talk to Sigurd about, I still appreciate the visit, and the time went quickly. I recommend everyone who has a lot to talk about to drop by the priest location: there awaits an open door and an open mind. There is also Twist.

The Summer Train Arrives in Ås The Summer Train has been travelling around Norway for a while now, and on Thursday, August 17th it finally reached the highlight of its journey: this wonderful countryside metropolis. Of course, TT was there to cover this occasion. After a beer or two in the morning, I wandered down to the city center with a notebook in hand to find out how the average citizens of Ås felt about trains and such. At first I came across three not-so-random interviewees, and finally I got to speak to the conductor himself.
Ole-Andreas Stigsrud Journalist
1. What is your role in Ås? 2. Do you like trains? 3. Have you ever taken the “bus for train” replacement, and if so how was it? 4. Here in the south, we complain quite a bit about the “bus for train.” In Northern Norway they have something called the “bus for plane.” What do you think about that? Arne Grimnes, 58 1. My role in Ås is to help shape society’s future by educating students. 2. Yes, I like trains. I travel about 700km per week by train. 3. Yes, I have tried it out of bad luck. 4. Haha well, it’s better than having to walk. Ola Nordal, 56 1. My role is being the Mayor of Ås. 2. Yeah yeah, trains are great. I like all kids of trains, but I like the ones that stop in Ås the best! 3. I have, and it was just fine. 4. I have actually tried it myself. It was manageable. Ivar Ekanger, 62 1. I am a citizen and politician. 2. Yes, I take the train to work every day. I would definitely like more trains in Ås. 3. I have many times, and I think it works fine. 4. “Bus for train” is better, but it is important that there are enough busses arranged.
Conductor Trond Arild Hermanssen, 45 How long have you been riding the Summer Train? I have been on the train since Kristiansand. We left there on Tuesday. Are you tired of it? Absolutely not! What was the most lively stop? There has been a lively local scene at every stop, but especially in Kongsberg and Vestfossen, and Bø also stood out. Was the train ever too big to fit in the tunnels? Haha no, we haven’t had any problems with that. What if the train is too small for the tunnels? Can it be problematic if there is too much wind in the tunnels? Hehe no, when it comes to tunnels and this train, I must say everything is going perfectly!

One-Sided English curriculum – A disservice The language counsil of Norway has gone through the curriculum for the first semesters at UiO, UiB and HiOA, og discovered that nearly all the curriculum was English. In many of these subjects it stays that way throughout the education. This is a problem for many reasons. It hinders learning ability to get though something that’s not in your mother tongue. A young psychology student will be judged in his abilities in English just as much as he will be in understanding people. It’s more simple in Norwegian, even if you’re competent in English. Another reason is the fact that you need Norwegian curriculum to feel comfortable using Norwegian terminology. The Norwegian terminology makes it easier to explain a subject to a wider range of people. The subject is the limit in that case, not the language. And it’s important to be able to speak with a broad range of people, while working, while at home, and in politics. An enlightened debate depends on people having access to facts – and that’s when you need Norwegian terminology. The reason for the lack of Norwegian literature in the curriculum is largely because it’s often outdated. It’s not that people don’t care. Professors and amanuensis burns for their subjects, and many are interested in language as well – terminology doesn’t die by itself. There’s a low number of up to date literature available in Norwegian as you don’t gain anything by making it. Norwegian literature nether makes money nor status in academic environments. It ends up being the most enthusiastic people with the time to deprioritize their research and their potential prestige. The solution to this knot should be to reward those who write educational literature, and create financial solutions to secure up to date literature. That will give the most enthusiastic researchers the space they need to strengthen Norwegian terminology. Åsmund Mikalsen Kvifte, Ås Studentmållag

“My theory is that I’m named Kaja because I was conceived in Kajaveien” Veslemøy Waage Journalist
Sara Bagheri Photographer
Kaja Gunnufsen comes from Ås. Tuntreet had a chat with the lady who finished this year’s matriculation ceremony with some “motherfucking ballad-pop”.
Do you feel successful now? “No. I’m a musician with a part-time job on the side, and if I get too confident there’s always some really weird performance job coming to drag me back down to earth. Not long ago I walked down the catwalk on some cosmetic event, while playing guitar and being part of the show. I regret accepting that job today. So, despite being able to live off music there’s quite a distance between the divas and me. Anyways, I don’t even know if being successful is a goal, isn’t it a little boring?” Bumpkins and rednecks When Kaja finished high school she couldn’t wait to get out of Ås. After many years of indifference, she’s thought about moving back home again. “After having a child I realized Ås might be one of the best places to live in this country. Mainly thanks to NMBU, there are a lot of enthusiastic and well-educated people who decide to stay here, and at the same time there is that countryside culture with bumpkins, rednecks and car enthusiasts. It’s a good mix. It’s just a shame that the rest of Ås has never been able to take full advantage of its status as a university town.” No straight-A’s-student Studying in Ås, unfortunately, was not an option. Kaja herself hasn’t studied, unless you count the three failed attempts at starting university in Oslo. But say all possibilities were up for grabs, what would she have done, then? “Maybe I could’ve travelled the world and made one of those cooking shows? But when I think about it, it’s not really meaningful enough. And besides, I don’t even like to cook. I’ve considered starting the teaching program again, but since I dropped out new math criteria have been introduced. And re-taking math to get into a study program I already was once qualified for, is not something I’m going to do on principle.” Even if she admits this stance only affects herself.
“Gutta Krutt” are also going to die It was during this year’s Øyafestival that she introduced her music as “motherfucking ballad pop.” But which song does she feel rates highest on this “motherfucking” scale? “That has to be “Gutta Krutt”. It’s about all the men in power, and the fact that they’ll also die in the end, and when they do everything will be better.” But what makes ballad pop good? “It has to be shameless, catchy music with a message. And the more you expose yourself, the better.”
“Øya 20 17: The most o nized c r rowd-s urfing in gahisto
r y”
Name: Kaja Gunnufsen Comes from: Ås Age: 29 Album released: «Faen Kaja» and «Ikke tenk på det» This year she for example played at Ås Matriculation, Øyafestivalen and Slottsfjell And, not the least, she’s participated in Championship in Sudoku in Copenhagen. She still solves the hard ones in the newspaper.

Graskurs part 2 One year ago I sat, a naïve first-year, witnessing my first “graskurs del 2”. The night started with my class having a pre-party, and I can confirm I got rather intoxicated. I can remember hollering and cheering for one association after the other showing a stupid, often semi-nude sketch promoting themselves. My first thought was how fun it was that I had just started at a university that seemed to have such an abundant student association life. After a year of repeatedly going to various Samfunnet’s events, I have discovered what is needed for a successful night; large amounts of alcohol. The dance associations DÅs and Swingklubben did on stage what they do best – dancing DÅs kicked off this year’s show, filling Audmax with cheers. Four girls performed in their familiar overalls, and with choreogra-
phy created by the dancers themselves, they were very synchronized. Swingklubben chose dancing to a more recent track, which gave the swing-concept a more modern feel. Still, this felt a little off, as the beat wasn’t quite right. If there is anything that doesn’t need modernizing at the same pace as society in general, it’s this student association. Dancing performances where the association isn’t a dancing one Despite the fact that Gent’s Academy, Collegium Alfa, Feminin og Fornem and Unity are social clubs, they actually managed to engage the audience more than the dance associations could. Especially the guys’ performances were met with loud cheering, so if there is anything to learn from this it is that semi-nudity (or complete nudity) on stage results in lots of applause.

Performance on screen Trøndernes fagforening and BB cowboys, two student associations definitely not belonging to the same category, now make up the coward-category together. Both chose not to be present on stage, and instead presented each their own recoarded feature on the big screen. Still, these two presentations were relatively entertaining, especially from the trønder people. Hooray for self-mockery! But it doesn’t get better than a live sketch. Maybe they were too busy drinking karsk to show up in person.
Tuntreet
Song(choir) performances Over Rævne, Pikekoret IVAR and Koneklubben Freidig all chose song perfomances for the occasion. IVAR’s was self-written and quite fun, obtaining lots of applause as it made fun of Hankattene, Unity and PB. By the way, where did PB go? Too x-clusive for graskurs del 2? Koneklubben Freidig featured “Weird Al” Yankovic and “Let It Go” from Frozen, just with new lyrics. Unfortunately, their performance got lost in the microphone and the whole thing sounded off key. However, the audience didn’t seem to react much to the false singing, and the great mood remained throughout. Following this, I want to tell Rævne: nothing better than a man’s fair voice in our ears. Choirs without choir performances, but with weird sketches instead After several years as an active watcher of shows in Oslo, I’ve rarely been sitting left
“A beautiful moment”
with a “What!?” as great as I did after these performances. The choirs NGA and Lærken abandoned their well-known style and preferred rather strange sketches. Maybe they should stick to what they know - choir performances. Musical features Pure musical performances featured Åsblæsten, Storbandet, Flatlusa and Frøy and Rockeklubben. A small cheer sounded after a fun sketch presented by Åsblæsten, but I wish it lasted a little longer. Storbandet, Flatlusa and Frøy and Rockeklubben each played a few songs, and good music was a nice, very welcome change. Well-established associations Hankattene, Ås’ oldest student association: once well respected young men, now young men with burning toilet paper hanging out of their ass. When it comes to their girlfriend association, Hunkattene, these girls
did impress in terms of originality. They performed Trond-Viggo Torgersen’s “Det var en gang en og en”, where each sound originated in squeezing breasts. Other Skogbrukforening arrived with a chainsaw each and opened their own beers with this saw. You could say they appeared with a rumble. ISU on the other hand delivered a somewhat more verbal performance – a joke. Kind of crookedly told, and the audience seemed to get confused. According to Mr. Bourrelle this is to be expected when Norwegians meet non-Norwegians. At the time I was told to write this review, it was twenty minutes before show start. With this in mind I expect the readers to understand it was written in pure objectivity, seeing my love for TT was not yet established. Tuntreet’s sketch was simple and original. The editor arrived in silence, sat down and played the familiar bodega song, “Thorvald og Tora”, on straw. The audience arose and joined in with lyrics. A beautiful moment. Unfortunately I missed Døgnflua, but what does it matter – in the true sense of the norwegian name they are mayflies after all.
“It was awful having civil duty during Graskurs part 2”
Usually, this is not how it is. Ås students are known for their voluntary work spirit. It’s what makes it possible to book a large number of artists and serving reasonably priced beer. However, only a third of the people called in for civil duty attended. It affects the guests, in the form of long queues and stopping the beer taps at 12:30. Even worse, it affects the attending civil duties, who suddenly have too much to do at once. Thank you so much to the attending civil duties during August 18th. You pulled through and made the night possible. I’m hopeful the rest of you will attend at the next opportunity. - Journ.ed., Margit Fausko

3 on the buddy week Rebekka Bedringås Studies: Bachelor in Biology
What was the strangest experience of Fadderuka? The Tour de Kringla cart race, because it was all chaos and there were no rules. Anyone standing on the sidelines could be run over. What was the most fun thing you did during Fadderuka? The Rebusløp on campus, I did things I would never usually do, like sing, dance, and swim in the duck pond, which smelled awful. What was the most surprising thing about Ås? Ås campus is so incredibly beautiful, and the people are so diverse. Everyone is very open.
Miranda Moldskred Dørum Studies: Single Subject Courses
What was the strangest experience of Fadderuka? Nach at the Hankatt loft. It was weird to be there, but also incredibly fun. What is the most surprising thing about Ås? The diversity of the people here, even within the same study program. If you have any special interests you can just go for it without anyone judging. What was the most awkward experience of Fadderuka? The wrestling event was super awkward, especially from the first row. I also took an awkward selfie with a random guy at the bar that night.
Mary Wang
Studies: BSc Animal Sciences What was the strangest thing about Fadderuka? The drinking culture, but I love it. What was the most memorable thing that happened during Fadderuka? When my Fadder and I walked home one evening after being at Samfunnet. She was dancing in the rain and acting crazy. Rebusløp was also a highlight. Which society (Forening) is the coolest, and why? All the choirs, because they are so talented and dedicated.

NMBU is rehabilitating the TF square for 110 million
Emilie Sandell Journalist and illustrator
Emilie Rui Translator
Remember how much our young minds once romanticised the idea of higher education? Sure, that was long before we understood it would mean a serving of angst with breakfast, and eating yourself sick of instant noodles, but I remember it dearly. The grandeur of enlightenment, academia! At last, we were ready to enter a distinguished institution of society, to gain insight into high culture. Our words would have weight and our surnames gain titles. The brochures depicted a proud Urbygning, an endearing quad with its accompanying tree – NMBU, for the ones who dear to dream bi-… but … the area around the TF building? Is this it… yes? Yeah, okay. Cool.
14 Issue 06 Volume 72
Tuntreet THE VISUAL EXPRESSION OF TF makes much more sense in a historical context. Campus Ås represents the historical frames of the 19th century in the form of Urbygningen and the old quad, but also the solid facades of the 60s, amongst other things. In the near future we will also have the new veterinary school, which will represent a much younger style of modern architecture. It seems like the time is ripe to look ahead, even for the architectural representative of the 60s. Property manager at NMBU, Kjersti Sørlie Rimer, has stated to Byggeindustrien that they want more sustainable buildings on campus. That is one of the reasons why TF can look forward to renovation. The building is not protected, but they see no reason to shake off the 60s style. The student’s union across the street is a protected building from the 70s. This journey through epochs gives our campus a distinctive mark. In other words, those of you who do not appreciate early modern architecture must learn to value it, or stay silent. The facade of the TF building will remain as is. At last came 2016, and the acceptance of a 110 million budget for renovating TF. This makes it the university’s biggest self-directed rehabilitation project. The framework and details of the plans were to be ready by March 2017, and NMBU’s property administrations could finally announce that the first wing would get a complete renovation. The building would also gain a roof terrace and a new cafeteria in solid wood. In addition there will be more group study rooms, seeing as the TF square will house 1200 students – that is, more than a fifth of the student population. With that in mind, it is reasonable that a larger part of the building will be occupied by students. This could result in more people seeking out this building, rather than others, to study, and this can improve student life in the long run. The renovation will attempt to rid the TF square of the mark it bears today of dark corridors. It will get brighter, more accessible, and on top of all this it will have a sustainable atmosphere – at least for the perceptive among us. This is because the south facing facade will power large parts of the building with its solar panels. Patient students and employees for the academic year 17-18 The student council of the Faculty of Science and Technology have monthly meetings to discuss potential improvements for students and employees at the faculty. As is to be expected in times of adjustment, the student representatives face these changes with some trepidation. Students and employees alike will face challenges until the building stands completed in autumn 2018, and users will have to be flexible. The student’s union will offer temporary reading halls on the second floor. During miniUKA spring 2018, there will not be reading halls available at Samfunnet. It could very well be that even more students seek out the student’s union that week with plans far removed from studying. Noise and home office The employees will have to work in an open landscape, and several have already stated that they will work more from home. Whilst understandable, this might make them less available for the students, something which worries the student representatives. Further, construction work is noisy. The computer rooms will be available for students, but they will be delayed. As of today, the geomatics’ computer room is directly next to the renovation work, meaning some might prefer to use these facilities after work hours. Perhaps this will be felt in other computer rooms around campus as students relocate to adjust? Completed by autumn 2018 The plan is for the new and improved TF square to stand completed by the autumn semester 2018. The student council commented that the project manager is well able to solve problems as they appear along the way. They have for example dealt with issues of poor ventilation in bathrooms, a lack of bicycle parking by the new entrance and uncertainty about the temporary emergency exits. They have also reported that construction is going according to plan and keeping within budget. And with that, students and employees can look forward to an exciting unveiling and slightly brighter days from next August on.

‘Lay-bike’ Like a Pro Have you seen a guy around campus riding a bike while laying-back as if it was the easiest thing in the world? If you did, you probably might have met Daniel Zonneveldt. Daniel, 24, may be an ordinary guy you’d come across on campus. He loves bikes, and he RIDES them in a very different way— by laying back. “Very often I get a lot of children shouting, ‘Cool’. And, some of my friends would try but they can’t manage. At least 40 people have already attempted riding my bike, but only two succeeded.” According to him, it wasn’t easy at first. He had to hold a rope between two trees to keep his balance. “After practicing, I tried riding it on the road during the first week, I didn’t feel safe. I was really careful not to hit people.” However, behind the ultra-cool and the smart bloke façade, Daniel is more than what meets the eye . Other than his passion for bikes—which he LOVES more than cars-- he is also GREATLY innovative at building them from scratch. He has built three bikes he calls, ‘recumbent bike’, ‘lean-stirring bike’, and the ‘bike trailer’.
Innovating Mainstream Cycling Jhenica Guevara Journalist
“The recumbent bike has less air resistance, which makes you bike faster using the same amount of energy as traditional bikes . Plus, it’s more comfortable with bigger seats unlike the normal bikes.” For him, the only snags in using these are when he’s turning in a sharp turn and going up on a steep hill. But still, speed and comfort wins. And come on, let’s be honest. It’s tip-top COOLER than ordinary bikes! Hailing from Amsterdam, it was natural for him to have biking as a hobby. But, he wanted to take it to another level. He wanted to make his own bikes with his own designs and for a major cause. “A big reason for doing all this bike stuff is to promote bicycling as a sustainable alternative for transport . Recycling as many old bikes as possible and showing what can be done by bicycle, like moving big stuff and furniture can help make a difference.” All his bikes are 95% made from people’s unused bike parts, and some damped parts in Ås.
Merete Guldhav Photographer
“I mostly get my parts from the trash or from people give away parts of their bikes. I go to the garbage damp in Ås. And lots of customers and some friends give me bikes.” ‘Bike Doctor’ in town During his stay in Ås for the past five years, he started helping friends with their bikes when it gets twacked. Last year of summer, he opened his business called, “Ås Sykkelrepasrasjon” wherein people can call him anytime to fix bikes in a jiffy for just around 200 NOK. He can fix 30 bikes in just two hours, people! So, you guys should know whom to call when your bikes need a fixer-upper! Just go to its Facebook page of the same name, or just call 977 68 492. And, you’ll have a bike doctor on your doorsteps! “There’s always new solutions in fixing bikes . It’s really a fun thing to tinker and it’s quite thrilling to have my own business.” So, for all the people who have bikes out there, here is his simple advice, and I do advise you to follow:
“Keep your chains oiled.” And, for all the people who wants to have a bike like his: “Build your own bikes. A bike can at least cost 20 000 NOK”

THEME NIGHT: WRESTLING
Rhia Aden Journalist Gunnar Haarr Photographer
The first bodega night of the semester started with a pow literally. Ås’s very own Samfunnet hosted a live wrestling show. A ring with was erected at AUD max alongside there was a bow-tie wearing announcer/ referee, judge table, sound effects made for TV and finally the spotlight following the action. The entertainment show starred four performers from the Norwegian elite wrestling providing the audience with action-packed entertainment. There were a few matches of two on two leading up to the finals. However, the final match was the main event, things got heated and intense quickly as four wrestlers came on set fighting each other. recognizable with his tattoos and smaller size compared to the others, who was infamous from drinking beer from audience members. Then there was Turbo, the guy who wore a mask who was Ikonet, the speedo wearing guy and last but not least Ryan the destroyer. Among the final four, the reigning champion was Ryan the destroyer. He was a crowd favorite that greeted with cheers while simultaneously greeted with the most boos throughout the evening. Ryan the destroyer walked around the match before he entered picking fights with the audience members while carrying an Australian flag. He made quite the impression by trash-talking and challenging the audience to join him in the rink. To the disappointment of many including myself that did not happen. I guess amateur fighting was not in the schedule, perhaps another time? Half-nelson after half-nelson the wrestlers were landing on tables, pinned on the mat
and smashing each other with chairs. Personally my favorite was when a wrestler through Adrian the storm into the audience, quickly the crowd quenched his thirst with beer while encouraging him to get back in the rink and “fight”. Clearly, the beer did the trick and he got back in with more energy and wrestled with renewed passion. The engagement the wrestlers had with the audience such as kissing girls and drinking beer added to the spontaneity of the show, the engagement was reciprocated with chanting and heckling from the crowd. As I grew up watching WWE or WWF (for the really old-school fans) it was pretty cool to experience the stunts and entertainment flare you see on TV. The constant Swearing and trash-talking, smashing of things, chants were reminiscent of a time when Hulk Hogan was still relevant and before the Rock was a Hollywood actor.

Concert fall 2017 Jon Eskild Mostue Sæther Journalist

As booking responsible you have an ungrateful job, and sort of put your head on the chopping block. The goal is to please a crowd where pretty much everybody has their own preference in music. This fall, the audience can experience a varied and exciting program, and the booking group hopes all the hard work will be reflected in a euphoric mood between the ones on stage and the audience. Administrative genius A couple of years ago, most of the responsibility for booking artists was with the Consert boss at Studentsamfunnet. This job was put aside to its own committee, and the whole thing was a win-win situation: part of the workload was removed from the concert boss’ shoulders, and at the same time others could focus 100% on the task of securing good artists. In this booking committee we now find Maria Refsland, Lisa Karine Haugland and Ellinor Brede Skårås. They’ve worked for half a year putting together the program and could finally announce the final one for all NMBU-students at the start of buddy week. The amount of concert nights is now reduced to four, with the consequence that many artists had to be turned down. Even if they now constitute their own committee, all suggestions need to be approved by the Samfunnet board, but so far this hasn’t resulted in too many challenges apart from “hard negotiations with Fredrik from time to time” (The Economy boss, Editor’s note)
Quality > Quantity Now, what can students expect this fall? With artists like Pom Poko, Arif + Unge Ferrari, Mugisho and Chris Holsten it’s safe to say this program is of the modern, and, for most, slightly unfamiliar type. Do not despair, well established bands like Donkeyboy and Klovner i Kamp will be there, too. Most have just put a summer of festivals behind them and should be well into their musical game as they enter the stage. As a quality check, booking responsible has seen all the artists live at least once. “It’s not necessarily given that a band sounding absolutely solid on record will be just as good live.” The wish is to also cover various genres, and in that way meet and challenge a growing and more diverse student population. “Our focus is a more complete program around each artist, and that people are given a background story in connection to the concert. We think this helps improve the experience!” One thing is the artist on stage, but the wrong settings can also contribute to ruining a concert. A rule of thumb for the booking group is that a smaller stage completely full is better than a half-empty larger venue. The best example of this was during UKA when Halvors Hybel was filled to the brim and the audience got to experience Cezinando up close with both skin and hair.
“Semesterkickoff” with Klovner i Kamp will, due to tradition, be held in Aud.Max., while the rest of the concerts are set to be held in Festsalen or Halvors Hybel. (Pom Poko has already performed before this edition was published.) Postbox, Postbox, Post The committee wants continuous feedback on how the concerts play out. “If there’s anyone you really want to see on stage, write us an email or use our new postbox! In this way we get a firsthand account of what people want and what doesn’t work out.” Apart from this, please make contact if you meet any of the three in the Bodega or wherever. If it turns out that the response is nothing but positive, they dream about expanding the concept further. In other words, you can look forward to several late fall nights with good shows and good people. Show up with an open mind, let go and contribute to more artists saying out of pure joy that they had “ the best gig of the year at Samfunnet.”

All album and song names has been translated *= Clowns at the battlefield **= The dane and the finger The sons of the night, the boys from Tåsen, the old stars of Norwegian rap - «Klovner i Kamp»* is coming to Ås! It all started in a tiny apartment in Bjølsen, Oslo, in 1994. Dr. S and Ali found themselves inspired by Norwegian rock, britcore and the political left, and decided to form “Klovner i Kamp”. Alongside the artists “Dansken og Fingern”** they have released legendary albums , and received the Spellemann award. They took a break after their album “The eagle doesn’t steal kids”, but were pushed by their fans in 2013 to make a comeback. They are living legends on the Norwegian rap scene, and with lyrics that are both dark, catchy and usually spot-on, they continue to stay relevant. With sufficient amounts of nerve and charm their music has gradually shifted to become more humorous, with higher potential for singing along. Our English-speaking readers has probably (unfortunately) never sung along to “the Waltz” and “Happy days” on a pre-party at Pentagon, nor have they been sitting up late at night yelling out the lyrics to “The sons of the night”, nor threatened their younger siblings with “Rabbit boiler 2”, and should consider this concert a golden opportunity for exploring Norwegian culture. Ready for an adventure? Are you a new student in Ås with big plans to explore your new home, but haven’t yet journeyed outside the Ås-bubble? Even though Akershus is the commune with the most cars, there are a surprising number of official (and not-so-official) paths and trails you can - and should - test out. Follo is waiting!

TIRED OF THE ÅS-BUBBLE? Get on your bicycle!
The Bunnefjord Route via Årungen (Vinterbro) Duration: ca. 1h Difficulty: Intermediate This route follows the idyllic Årungen lake (but don’t swim!), before reaching the “Tusenfryd route,” a more official biking path (which is easier to bike, but much less scenic). Between these two paths it can get a bit confusing, but if you start to loose your way, just stop and wait for the next gang of bikers in their professional athletic suits. They will definitely show up. Stop for refreshments at the “Kiosk at Nesset” at the bottom of Bunnefjorden, and afterwards, enjoy what is often referred to as Ås commune’s most important recreational area: Breivoll park area. Here you can go swimming, play volleyball or soccer, or go for a hike. When heading back you have many options, but be careful, there can quickly be too many hills and too narrow bike paths. 22 Issue 06 Volume 72

Tuntreet The “Dammit, there’s no sports store/Clas Ohlson/Kondomeriet/fresh food store etc. in Ås, I have to go to Ski” Route Duration: ca. 30 min Difficulty: easy Depending on where you live in Ås, you should either start this route at the Esso, or by Askjumskogen. The only challenge on this route is a difficult road crossing at one point. Otherwise just keep to the right and you will arrive in Ski. On this short bike tour you will pass through the Østensjø Nature Reserve (with possible detours for the bird lover) and the idyllic neighborhoods of Søndre Finstad. And then: Ski! Which is perhaps Follo’s ugliest town. Watch out for cars because there are quite a few, and they don’t always take kindly to cyclists. Tucked away in one of the few wooden houses, you can find “Café Sjarm” if you need a nice place to grab a cup of coffee to recharge your energy, otherwise the “straight in, straight out” strategy is recommended to take care of whatever you need to do in Ski ;)
The Swimming Park Route (Drøbak) Duration: ca. 45 min. there, 1h back Difficulty: Easy (with your bike on low gear!) Drøbak is awesome! Especially before fall settles in completely. You follow the same biking path the entire way, and it is a relatively idyllic route, despite being beside the road. Bring a scarf, as it can get a bit windy. On the way back you can stop at one of the farms that sell fresh products, for example “Den Blinde Ku.” Nothing better than picking up some locally produced cheese on the way home! When you arrive in Drøbak, you can relax in what is perhaps Østland’s most gorgeous costal village. A cozy option is the restaurant “Ett rom og kjøkken” where you can grab a coffee and a small bite to eat, with great areas to sit both inside and out. And a bite of food is necessary, as the ride back to Ås is all uphill. The “Holdbart” Route (Vestby) Duration: 45 min. there, 30 min. back Difficulty: Intermediate A route that combines working out, experiencing nature, and cheap food stores? Yes, it exists! You don’t have to go through the woods of course, but is it a fun adventure if you live at Pentagon, and have tires fit for forest paths and enough time. Adding a basket and/or bags to your bike is recommended if possible. A stop by the secondhand store at the Vestby train station is also recommended, and if you’re lucky they will be serving waffles. From the station there is a bike path leading up to “Holdbart,” a relatively large food store that sells products nearing their expiration date at discounted prices. If by this point you are too tired and/or have bought too much chocolate, you can always take your bike on the train to head back to Ås. But remember that an extra travel zone + a bike on the train is expensive! Issue 06 Volume 72 23

”Dear God. You promised us two rain seasons this year. Now the first one has passed, but the rain never came.” What is happening in Kenya right now is astonishing You have probably heard about it. The effects of climate change will change the patterns of the weather and increase the intensity and strength of wind and rainfall. But when the message is presented by a farmer with his own video footage, showing how the roof of his house is being blown away and his crops drowned, it hits closer to home. And despite the intensity of the rain shown to us, the drought between the rain seasons remains an even greater threat.
The farmer who faces climate change Kisilu Musaya came to Ås on the 20th of august. He is a farmer from Kenya, known for the movie “Thank you for the rain”. Vitenparken got crowded when the movie was screened for free, with opportunity for the audience to ask and discuss climate change and its challenges in Kenya afterwards. The event was organized by Spire.

Adjusting to climate change in your local community Planting trees and keeping more robust food plants are key words. And if you place the food plants between the trees, the branches will shield the plants from natures powerful forces. Kisilu shares his knowledge of good plant nurseries, and remains optimistic on behalf of the Kenyan people, and their knowledge and willingness to adjust to the changes they have seen. The process of change can be demanding and hard, but Kisilu is more worried about the life they will face if climate change worsens. A representative in Paris for farmers from dry countries A Norwegian girl was the one to “discover” Kisilu some years ago, and wanted to get his story through. The movie “Thank you for the rain” turned out so well that it contributed to bringing him to Paris to inform the world leaders about the effects of climate change. 85% of Kenyas population depend on agriculture. Their alternative is the slum in the city. «Help us here we are by stop making climate change» is his prayer to the wealthy countries with large emissions. He hopes the decision makers are sincere when they pat him on the shoulder and tell him that “we will do our best”.

European Champion! Ole-Andreas Stigsrud Journalist

What? European champion? Why does TT write about this? Well, you see, we actually do have a fresh European champion amongst the students at NMBU. Guro Nordvik plays for the women’s national rugby team and was recently a part of winning the European Championship. I went to rugby practice, hoping to get an interview in one of the breaks. It had to be one of the first breaks, before I was too out of breath to talk. When did you start playing rugby? I started in February 2016 Why rugby? I played Australian football earlier, and went with some of the players there to try rugby. Rugby tuned out to be my thing What do you think of the rugby environment in Norway? It’s small, but good. Lots of nice people. Rugby is a quite rough game; do you like it rough? Hehe, yeah, I do. What’s your favourite position? In the field, I mean. I play prop, which means I take the hit for others. Have you ever used your rugby career to your advantage in dating? Not on purpose at least! Do you have any advice to a rookie? Go for it with all you got! What are the most important abilities in rugby? That depends upon your position, but speed and strength are vital abilities no matter what. Last but not least, what was it like to win the European championship? So much fun! We got to raise the trophy and the national anthem was playing and it was simply awesome.

The man behind the scenes or the man pulling the strings? Event coordinator - Samfunnsstyret Which events are must-haves for Samfunnet this year, and which projects are a bit further back on the priority list? There are many pieces to put together, and we met with the man responsible for it all: Samfunnet’s own event coordinator, Håkon Husdal
Mathilde Strand Journalist Lish Earnest Translator Sunniva Brajkovic Photographer
30 Issue 06 Volume 72
Fun, happy, and determined Håkon Husdal is a man with a lot going on. In addition to being the event coordinator for Samfunnet, he is also taking a master’s degree in forestry at NMBU, and is a former member of NMBU’s perhaps most famous social society, the Hankatts, established 1902. We went to meet him on his own turf, at Samfunnet. He had just come from a meeting, which he can easily have many of throughout the week. Håkon is a humble guy who found the task of describing himself in three words a bit difficult. However, we managed to come up with a description that worked. Håkon is a fun, happy and determined guy, who always has a smile to share. Something happening almost every day - I am responsible for all events that happen at Samfunnet except the concerts, which the concert coordinator is responsible for. It is easy to understand that Håkon has a lot on his plate, but that seems to be the way he likes it. The Samfunnet committee has mandatory meetings every Monday. There is a lot to go over since there are events happening at Samfunnet almost daily. There are many external entities to cooperate with, and therefore it is important to act professionally. - It is just so much fun. I think that is my favorite part about it. You also learn a lot. Håkon thinks it is important that people understand all the work that goes into planning. In addition to creating a semester program, there are also many hours of meetings, organizing and planning that go into making the curtain rise. - We felt the need to cut back on the number of revy’s, or else it would have been way too much. Håkon explains that when they put together a new semester program, they take inspiration from the previous year. - We look back at what worked well in previous years, while at the same time making sure the program is not too similar to last year’s. Quiz, revue & Klovner i Kamp - Klovner i Kamp is going to be so awesome! There are a lot of exciting things planned for this semester; everything from quizzes, to café Tuesdays, to bodega, etc. Some of the highlights include exciting concerts, like Klovner i Kamp and Donkeyboy. The event coordinator also wants to point out the various revys on the agenda this year. This semester there will be performances by the student societies Trøndernes’ student union, Åsblæst’n, Broderskapet Unity, Den X-clusive Stiftelsen PB, and an anniversary revy with Pikekoret IVAR and Mannskoret Over Rævne. - I think all the revys planned this year are going to be super fun. The event coordinator has even participated in three revys himself while in the Hankatts, and in addition, he was one of the writers behind the UKE-revue 2016. No stupid questions - Figure out what works best for you. This is Håkon’s advice when it comes to getting involved in student life. He himself tried out many different things, including being a part of the event committee before taking over the roll of event coordinator. On October 30th, Samfunnet will have a general assembly, and many positions will be up for election. Håkon’s advice to anyone interested is: - Never be afraid to ask questions. It is better to ask questions than to pretend like you know the answers when you really don’t.

I’m in love and I have herpes! Two years ago I had an outbreak of genital herpes, and it really sucked. But I’m wondering how dangerous it actually is? The school nurse said there is no contamination danger when there’s no outbreak, but if this is true I have no idea how I got it myself, because I’ve never, as far as I know, slept with anyone with an outbreak. Maybe I contracted genital herpes from someone with oral herpes, I don’t know. But anyways, because she said it doesn’t transmit outside outbreaks, and I always use condoms, I’ve had sex with several people after, and none of them contracted herpes that I know of. The thing is, now I’m in love with this guy. We fooled around a couple of times, but we haven’t had sex. I don’t know if I should tell him or not, when and if so, how, and if he’ll even still be interested in me if I say it. What should I do? Insecure girl, 21
Hello Insecure girl, So sorry to hear you contracted herpes genitalis, our condolences to your genitalia. Herpes is not dangerous, but it can be irritating and embarrassing. This is a common condition you can live with just fine. We’re happy to hear you’ve contacted the nurse to get some help and advice from her, but we have to correct her in her saying that you’re completely non-contagious as long as you don’t have an outbreak. It’s true that the risk is very small, but it’s still there. Also, not all outbreaks are large and annoying enough that you will notice them, which means you could be contagious without knowing so yourself. We’re not telling you this to scare you, but it is important that you’re aware of your own clinical symptoms in order to take educated choices.

Holding back the truth will often only give you the feeling that you’ve lied, and lies always surface sooner or later. Better safe than sorry. Considering where and when, several possibilities are available and you have to find the one that makes you most comfortable. This might sound a bit corny, but we think it would fall natural to tell about it as the mood builds up to more than just talking. Express how you’re attracted to him and you like him, and because of this you feel the need to put all cards on the table before taking the next step. This will take the weight of your shoulders and in this way it becomes his problem to relate to instead.
Regarding the question of whether or not you should tell him, our opinion is that even if you have no formal obligation to let him know, it’s probably morally fair to warn him about the herpes. Seeing that this is a guy you’re interested in, and might see a future with, we think the wisest thing is to let him know. You’ll probably carry it in the back of your head as a

You can take advantage of the easygoing mood provided by the alcohol, and hope he takes it well. Remember, if he thinks this will be too difficult and loses interest, he’s not the man in your life. We’re cheering for everyone who’s joined the important fight against stigma around sexual health, in order to finally get an open dialogue about problems we all can relate to. TO COLDS WITH ANNA AUSTAD

hen Anna arrived in Ås four years ago to study chemistry, she became immersed in the green environment. Lots of people will have recognized her if they paid a visit to BUA, the little independent store on campus selling food directly from locals farmers. BUA was started by a handful of students, among them Anna, and it is Anna’s most evident heritage to Ås, should she ever decide to quit. But from what I have learnt, she will stay in the game as long as she can.
Emilie Rui Journalist Maren Oftebro Translator Nina Rosita Hansen Photographer
Miss Sunshine It was Anna’s suggestion that we meet in the Station café. That place fits well with what I have heard of her so far. The café is not in any way flashy, but still displayed in manner that makes it warm and friendly. I’m guessing she is a genuinely pleasant person. My first impression of her confirms this, as she greets the staff – clearly someone she knows – with cheery small talk. “Are you tired, too? I’m getting so tired from this rainy weather.” Today is one of the first grey days after the summer holiday, and it seems consistent with Anna’s character that greyness is not her thing. Social sisters from the woods When you ask someone where they’re from, most will announce a toponym followed by either a tiny, confirming nod or a quick addition of “you probably don’t know where that is”. Anna, on the other hand, is hesitant. “I’m from the woods. Between Stokke, Andebu and Tønsberg. It’s indefinable. We were born on a farm and lived there until the year we turned six and moved just a little further up the road. Are you noticing I’m automatically saying “we”? Anna laughs as she catches herself doing this. It’s because she has a twin sister, Elise. Playmates were not abundant out in the woods in Vestfold. Anna is extremely social, and her childhood surroundings had a lot of influence on the matter. She is still extra curious of other people. “They were exotic, the people in my class who lived in a neighborhood. I live in a neighborhood now, and it feels really strange! I actually don’t get used to it. Every time I leave the house I’m wondering if there are any neighbors around”. Safety Her relationship with the twin sister means a lot. They are particularly close, and her sister has especially given her one important gift. “I think the best thing about having a twin sister is the social safety I feel. I’m convinced it’s because of her. What describes it best is this thing about loneliness. A lot of people feel lonely, but for us it’s just not normal. I can’t remember ever having felt truly lonely. “A year-long illness made me more intelligent” Anna was delayed in high school due to a long-term tonsillitis. Even if getting well took a lot of her time, she finally finished. She was given extra time, spent long periods resting and reflecting. “I feel that I became more intelligent from being sick for a whole year. I made calm, quiet friends and we talked more. At that time I started hanging out with people who liked culture and literature.” Anna mentions Gert Nygårdshaug and I ask her about Mengele Zoo, the best seller about a group of young people who, in radical ways, fight against the environmental destructions of capitalism. “Yes, it definitely inspired me. It really got me. Gert Nygårdshaug is one of the people who opened my eyes for the environmental crisis.”
The green lifestyle was a natural choice Even if Anna was not a pronounced environmentally conscious youth, she probably has a natural drive towards the lifestyle she feels is important. When she was completely ready to get her driver’s license as an eighteen-year-old, she suddenly chose not to take the test. “I just thought it was so ridiculous. I felt that a car equals alienation and unnecessary luxury.” The great awareness came after she moved to Ås. “One of the first things that happened was the annual barbeque at Pentagon. Among everyone who stood there barbequing I noticed the girls from Framtiden i Våre Hender. Everything they were making was from foods supposed to be thrown out. That was cool, and I went straight to them. Then I went to one of their meetings, and I was kind of hooked at once.” Issue 06 Volume 72 33

“In the future, we eat clothes” Matter before self It can be challenging to run small farms organically in the current economy, and this demand is what BUA is working to meet. “If a farm is producing in a good way, we want to trade with them. Even if they can’t afford to be organically certified.” Even though it is social, this is not what the motivation runs on. Neither is it a careerist’s desire of a nice-looking CV. It is an actual desire for change. Change in how we think about food and in the economical context around food. “I think today’s system is completely strange. Producer selling to big chains pretty much earn all their income on subsidies. When they sell something directly they earn the actual value of the food.” Anna also runs a thrift store with someone else, Tina. And she dances, sews and plays the accordion in Flatlusa. All this on top of her studies. I wonder if there ever was a time it all became a little too much. Has she never wanted to quit, to have more time to spare? “Yes, plenty of times! But I continue. The practical day-to-day run is the most important. I’m fueled by the thought that if I don’t do it, then the projects will face 34 Issue 06 Volume 72
consequences. Take the thrift store, for example. If I quit, then Tina quits. I stay, because I want the store to exist.” Still, at some times it has been a little overwhelming. “I’m not the greatest planner, and the exchange to France during my second year was spontaneous. Partly it was because I was so involved in so many things that I felt the need to run. It sounds a little irresponsible, but at least I told people in advance.” Anna carries no need to be very visible in the student environment. She quickly got to know the town locals in addition to students, and she’s happy with this. Her projects are what matter, and she prefers students to mix in with the local population. “I never had the intention of improving the student environment in Ås.” The coordinator Anna is the only one in BUA as it is today who’s been part of it from the start. Presently, they are fifty members, and it falls on Anna to make sure the communication stays well so the daily running goes without problem. Her feelings about this role are mixed.
“I’m a supporter of flat structure. Surely I can be some sort of a “leader”, but I wish more people to be confident in themselves. Many times I’ve become a victim for people coming to me for help when they could have gone to someone else. I notice this in everyday life.” “In the future, we eat clothes” At this time, Anna is pursuing the master thesis of her dreams, writing about chemical recycling of textiles. “We must use chemistry to take care of the resource use of the future. This is exactly what I wanted to write about. I’m using clothes from the thrift store otherwise meant for the trash. Lots of the people in the lab work with degradation of cellulose in plants, and they commonly say “in the future, we eat trees”, but I want to degrade cellulose directly from textiles and reply jokingly “in the future, we eat clothes.” Normandie-Ås After the exchange in Normandie, Anna biked all the way home. Preferably, it needed to be quick, too. “I had to get back to work.” Anna works, of course, also parttime in a care facility. The trip took three
Tuntreet weeks, which were important in many ways. For one, it helped on her language speed course. “All that french went around my head like a meditation.” And it also became some sort of holiday, which she acknowledges a hundred percent. “It’s the best way to travel. I traveled alone, but of course you’re not at all alone. You meet people all the time. Around every corner there are nice people wanting to help you or wondering what you’re up to. It’s the best trip I ever had, you really experience a lot on a bike. You can see things properly along the way, and stop in unexpected places.” This summer, Anna went biking in France again, this time with her partner. It surprised Anna when he was the one suggesting the trip. “We were supposed to go on a road trip, but suddenly he sold the car and said now we’re going biking.” It makes me wonder.
Is it important for Anna that her boyfriend is just as environmentally conscious as she is? Not necessarily. Because even if the guy is among the greener types, he’s mostly enjoying life as it is. And deep down that’s what’s most important for Anna, too. She’s aware, but not fanatic. First and foremost she lives her life the way she feels best. But there is one matter on which the boyfriend should always be like her. “I made dinner one day and he said this is so good. And I told him if you hadn’t been able to appreciate this together with me, we could probably never have been together. That’s important to me, appreciating a good meal together.” Because above all, Anna wants to live life to its fullest. And she knows exactly how she wants to do it.
...................................................
In a world filled with hyper modern galloping horses, who rides towards the unknown sunset, Anna is the healthy and clumsy who takes life easy and prepares the food to the hungry and unusable. ALWAYS DELICACY, cause she knows
French, and this makes the food she makes extra good :-) When the horses are back on the land, and rides away, Anna often sits sown in the sofa with a kitten who cannot understand anything of what she is saying(which could be good, cause Anna is a Laboratory-lady who cannot always mix together the chemicals right, and use a lot of terminology: “No and no, kitty, how is it going to go with this amino-enzymeprotein-in-carbon-natrionlut test, uff!”), and maybe knits and does something productive, like watching TWIN PEAKS DELICACY SERIÈS (Pronounced in French). Luckily Anna wakes up like a dog or a cat (Every day EVERY DAY, Karpe Diem Inshalla and all that) and does not
give up on when problems comes, or difficultly comes and needs fixing (Not that she strives, because she does not, she is a little French after all, and likes more a plate Moules Mariniè with BLANC wine! Anna in a word. INSPIRIIRNG
I first met Anna at the EcoGarden bonfire and my first thought was “ Another #$%* Hippie”. Nothing bad about hippie mentality but I find some of them are all talk, no action. But not Anna, she is ALL ACTION! She got me involved in BUA to help build and create an environment of students that want to help change our little part our the world. Later she inspired me and others to start “Framtids Kafe” making free food and allowing student groups to promote there change the World mentality, like Engineers Without Borders and Spire. She contriubutes to other student groups too. But the great thing about Anna, she is always there when you need her. I lost everything last year in a fire, and Anna offered me her home and even her clothes. I hope everyone is lucky enough to have a friend like Anna iin there life to inspire. The battle of Kringla
Some things are worth dying for Kaja Mie Botnen Journalist
Gunnar Haarr Photographer
The door to økonomikantina slams, and the society member next to me spills his coffee. As our eyes meet, I give a small nod of recognition. I can only imagine how he is feeling. All we have left now are the memories of August 12th and the week that followed. That is something we will have to learn to live with. The August Incident August, Tour De Kringla, the clock shows 19:02. I am standing in the field, only barely able to spot the photographer through the crowd. The place is cramped and it is raining, but no one cares. Everyone is shouting. Squinting between the onlookers, I can only just make out the principal getting carried to safety to triumphant cheers from the crowd. Suddenly, an explosion of sound thunders behind me, like an orchestra, and the clamor escalates. The society members surround our position, in the middle of everything, while they fight for their lives, both against and alongside each other. One of them has latched onto a wagon and refuses to let go even though her legs are giving way. I am scanning the crowd for the photographer and spot him running backwards in front of a pulsating mass of colors and wood that seems to be disagreeing with itself about which way it is going. It plunges forward, spins around and shuffles backwards again. People are falling out of it, clinging to whatever they can find. Behind me, the erratic bangs and clangs of drums and horns fires up again. Some have taken refuge in trees. I no longer know what is happening. The photographer is once again swallowed by the crowd, and I decide to retreat to the nearest safehouse, Bohemen. I am later told by a correspondent on the inside that the Tomcats were victorious. I dare not think of the battlefield they left behind. I hit the bottle.
Worth dying for Back in the cafeteria, the man beside me is done mopping up his coffee. We are both probably going to keep our guard up around loud noises, marching bands and strong colors for a while. It is good that it is quiet here now, but there are things worth dying for, and moving a vessel somewhat successfully around Kringla is one of those things. From the moment he grabbed on to that green shopping cart it was about survival. They sacrificed everything Remember these people, who came shivering in masses from the Duck Pond, covered in a film only capable of bringing joy to budding microbiologists. Remember all those who believed that they were going to read books here, but instead they got baptized in a toilet. Remember the new ones, exhausted, staggering, with substances of all colors caking their face and hair as they crawled home to pentagon. Remember the old ones, with fire and porridge trying to keep up the courage. By all means, remember those who had to thank the fire department wearing only underwear and lab coats after being rescued from a locked sauna. They made their choice. They sacrificed everything – for each other and for the freedom to be silly. I think of them as I sit here, dry, warm and unsilly - and as I watch the society member pull on his coat, I think of all the good he has done for me, and I raise my cup to him.

Party, Centre party, Conservatives, Socialist Left Party (SV) and Liberal Party (Venstre). The survey was conducted with the website Surveymonkey. In addition to sharing the link to the survey on the NMBU Facebook page, we asked the studetn advisors at the faculties to spread the link among theier students. Some did that, and others did not, which had the effect that some faculties participated in a larger degree than others. This could have had an effect on the result. 40 percent of the respondents study at the Faculty of Science and Technology, 21 percent at The school of economics and business, and the remaining 39 percent study at the other five faculties. The category «Andre» (Other parties) in the diagrams include two votes for The Christians, and one vote each for Feminist Initiativ, The Pirate Party, The Coastal Party and The Liberalists. In the survey and in the results we have not taken into the account that the votes are cast in a county.
Tuntreet conducted a survey among the students at NMBU to find out which political party they would wote for in the general elctions. It seems that The Green party (MDG) would get the most wotes, but need support from at least two other parties to form a government. Of the 5200 students at the unicersity, 803 responded the poll. For comparison, Norstat ask between 900 and 1000 persons when they make national polls for NRK. MDG get 23 percent of the student votes, and they hav a big support in all faculties except of The School of Economics and Business, where the Conservative Party (Høyre) and the Labour Party (Arbeiderpartiet) are the two largest. It’s also worth noticing that Centre Party (Senterpartiet) is by far the most popular party among the veterinary students at Campus Adamstuen. What’s the opinion of the student parties? Tuntreet asked the politicians the following three questions: -How will your party prioritize climate and environment for the next period? -What characterizes your political parties view on agriculture? -What should change in schools?
Arbeiderpartiet Fremskrittspartiet Vilde Lofthus Rooth, Ås Astud
The labour party wishes to lead a climate politic that follows the Paris agreement – and that actually gives emission cuts. We want to focus on these four sectors with huge emissions, but also have big potential for emission cuts: Climate friendly road transport, biogass, climate friendly shipping and carbon capture- and storage. We wish to use Enova actively to cut emissions by converting to renewable energy. The labour party thinks that the climate emissions are urgent, and wants to take up 40 climate measures at the parliament in February 2016. The labour party wants agriculture throughout the whole country and a food production system based on Norwegian resources. Strong and sustainable farming demands continuation of the farming agreement, import protection, property laws and market schemes. We want to strengthen soil conservation. And rather than few, bigger farms, we want to secure a diverse structure with various means of production. In addition, the farmers must receive equal revenue growth. They should get more power in the value chain for food. We want to pass a law about good trade practices to secure the farmers’ power in food production. Norwegian schools need to change for the future, and because of this the labour party has outlined 18 specific measures that should be taken. These measures encourage schools to take care of the students by creating anti-bullying teams in all communes, and including mental health in the syllabus. They also address the future’s need to teach children more practical education and coding. At the forefront of this is the teacher, and the 3000 new ones that are going to get more time to become teachers.
Julianne Ofstad, Follo FpU
Translators: Anne Tove Græsdal Våge Maren Oftebro Nina Rosita Hansen Veslemøy Waage
Kristelig Folkeparti Turid Fitjar, Sunnhordland KrFU
In the past few years, we have seen a record high investment in expansion of the railroad network and in the public transport sector, something we wish to continue. We also want to make it cheaper to travel with public transport. Big cuts in road- and car-related expenses have made it cheaper for people to buy newer and more environmentally friendly cars that pollutes less. We want to reward those that make environmentally conscious choices, rather than punish those who don’t have the option to choose so.
KrF has a vision of Norway as a zero emissions country, and wants to lead the way for phasing out fossil energy sources such as coal, oil, and gas. We want to make it easier to be environmentally friendly and take care of the nature by, among other things, making public transport and electric cars cheaper. We don’t want any oil drilling in the vulnerable marine areas outside Lofoten, Vesteraalen and Senja, we want to prohibit the use of micro plastic in cosmetics, and we want all municipalities to have proper recycling systems.
Frp wants to remove unnecessary regulations in agriculture, which will make the farmers more independent. We want production and prices to be increasingly determined by the market, and that resources on private property should be easier to use without too many obstacles. In the past few years, we have made good investments in agrictulture, which have led to a record high production of domestic food, better infrastructure, and increases in income within the sector.
Norway’s agriculture is important for creating wealth, in preventing centralisation of the population, and in the conservation of the cultural landscape. We think the work of the farmer should be appreciated, and that those involved in agricultural work should receive the same income as other professions. In order to maintain and expand food production, we need to take care of our valuable food soil. KrF wants strict protection of these areas to secure domestic food production for future generations.
We believe the students need more freedom at school. We want more elective subjects so that students can adjust their daily lives at school and make it more relevant for further education. By doing this, we will increase the students’ motivation and desire to learn. The absence limit works, but needs adjustment. Among other things, this means that nurses should be able to give sick notes. We also need more and better teachers, and more school nurses in schools.
Our educational policy is that every student should be seen, and that the teachers should have time to attend to the individual student. Each student is different from the next, so we want the students to be able to choose their subjects more freely, and we want more practical subjects in school. Parents who wish for their child to go to independent private schools should have the opportunity to choose so. KrF demands the end to bullying, and wants every county to have an anti-bullying representative.
Socialist Left Party Union The political parties are preparing for the campaign. The Socialist Left Party (SV) is now ready to join the battle amongst the students on Ås for environment and justice. The student union is already planning meatings and political actions for the autumn, and have great hope for the future. They held a stand during Graskurs and kept an initiation meating on september 5th. Ås students are usually more invested in environment than most. The majority also care about fair sharing and international solidarity. If you do, SV is the party for you, is the opinion of Dötterer. The first candidate of Akershus SV, Nicholas Wilkinson, attended the initiation meating. -We want to stop the increasing differences in power and wealth. To do so we have to win the election, therefore we need the students to join our team, says Wilkinson. The Ås students are ready to join the battle for victory. The Right Wing are increasing the differences, and the Labour Party are increasing the release of greenhouse gases. What we need is a strong voice for environment and justice. We’re ready for battle, Dötterer says, smiling.
Miljøpartiet De Grønne Jon Hoel, Ås Grønne Studenter
Senterpartiet Magnus Børste, Ås Senterstud

Venstre
Tiril Eid Barland, Akershus Venstre
Climate and environment is Venstre’s trademark. One thing that should be at the forefront of all Norwegian policies is the aim of a maxium temperature increase of 1,5*C. The threats are still years ahead, but it is a great concern that demands immediate action. In response, Venstre wants to gradually make Norway less dependent on oil. Lofoten is one test case. A large cut in subsidies provided for oil searches is another. Businesses are counting on this – they are our allies, not our enemies. The environment also demands that we cut down on our use of plastic. For Venstre, farmers are not a preservation item. Agriculture needs to face changes, too. But the goal is not only increased production and increased profit – there are several goals, such as ensuring that farmers earn what they deserve and dare to invest in the future and provide the consumer with healthy, good food, produced environmentally friendly. Biological diversity should also be preserved, and greenhouse gas emissions lowered. Animals should not be suffering, and fur trade should be eliminated. It is also a goal to have people choose organic food, and preferably less meat. A good, liberal society demands basic knowledge from each and every one of us, it demands that we care about each other and the society, and that we are able to make independent decisions. All of this starts in school. It’s where we spend our most important years. With this in mind, Venstre wants good resources brought into education: teachers should be teachers, not bureaucrats or guards. Struggling children should be given help earlier, and SFO and kindergarten should be free of charge for families who need it.ww

2018
Dear NMBU student! During the month of October 2018, something big will happen here in Ås! UKA in Ås is a 26-day long festival, created by and for students. During the festival there is a revue called UKErevyen, concerts, bars, treasure hunts and other events. UKA in Ås has roots all the way back to 1890, and is one of the oldest and longest student festivals in the country. Now we need your help to uphold these proud traditions and to create UKA in Ås 2018. In 2016 the festival had more than 1300 volunteers that all contributed to the festival in their own way. This spring we hired 17 amazing committee leaders that have already started their work. Now we are announcing over 40 new positions as committee leaders, that all will help form different parts of the festival. Maybe you will be in charge of the menu at UKEgrillen? Or maybe you will choreograph the dancing at UKErevyen? Or maybe you will book the headliner of the festival? There is a myriad of opportunities and I am sure that you will find a position that will fit your needs. To be a committee leader you do not need to have a lot of experience, the most important thing is that you are motivated, willing to learn and that you wish to make a difference for the students here in Ås. As a committee leader for UKA in Ås 2016 I learned a lot about UKA, about working with others and about myself as a leader. Being a committee leader lets you experience the festival in a completely new manner, and will give you memories and friends for life!
For more information about the different positions send an email to uka@ukaiaas.no or meet us around campus. On Friday 15.09 14:00 – 16:00 we will be available in CafeKlubben to answer all your questions, drop by for a chat! 44 Issue 06 Volume 72

In the time to come, we have no plan to limit our to-do list. We are looking into expanding our variety of bars and beverages by introducing different beers in Cafeklubben, and experimenting with keeping it open when there are a lot of activities on the house. In addition, we are once again constructing the Pergola (it is SFW to google!) at the deck outside Festsalen, and we hope that the weather allows us to put it to good use by everyone. Salutations!
The fall’s greatest highlight is at hand, and no, we’re neither thinking about Columbus day, Thanksgiving, nor Halloween – we’re of course thinking of the intimate concert (probably not the correct translation) with Sangkoret Lærken! Find yourself and a friend if you have one, and get yourself to Cafeklubben at Samfunnet at 7:30 pm September 18. Fight the fall cold with Lærken’s beautiful singing, it always does the trick!
Frøy “Want to learn folk dancing?
Come to the meeting room at Samfunnet 18th of October (or 20th of September if this makes it to Tuntreet’s September issue!) at 17.00. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience level. Leikarringen Frøy has practice every other Wednesday, arranges weekend courses, a trip to Rørosmartnan, as well as vors/parties with Flatlusa. What is folk dancing? Quick and slow, hard and easy, paired dancing and group dancing, good mood, fun and getting to know one another. Welcome:)”
Bodega
“Bodega, oh bodega!” There is good reason to visit the bodega on your average bodega night. Get things of your chest at the long table in the bodega. Pull out your Stentor song book and sing a little tune. Make your own fun and you’ll have a blast!
IVAR and Rævne square up The war between the army of flowers and the troop of sixpences, and the life thereafter – how will this go? The girl choir Pikekoret IVAR and the male choir Mannskoret Over Rævne are 50 years old together and cooperate in making a hell of an anniversary revue. (Norwegian)

Beer and politics bodega: “The future food” One should not play with ones food. Expect this day we will play with our thoughts on food, for our “Future food” bodega. Playmates this night will be Svenn Arne Lie, co-author of the book “A nation of meatheads” (orig. “En nasjon av kjøtthuer”), Siri Helle, journalist with a regular food column in “Dag og Tid”, and Arne Bardalen, special advisor to NIBIO. The future food. Will we grow it on fields or in labs? By robot or man, on The Moon or Mars? Stop by Samfunnet and join this important discussion.

YOUR REF: Johannes? OUR REF: There must be more! FADERLOFTET, THE 24th of August OF THE 115. K.Å. Being back in Ås feels good. To finally be able to sit on the balcony of Faderloftet and enjoy a cold beer whilst beholding the Pentagonian fields looking for new students of the female kind who are in dire need of some Culture, is amazing. This is something The Signatory has been looking forward to ever since he boarded the train at the beginning of summer. The summer has been long and dry with the exception of a tubing festival that was a little too wet. Hence, The Signatory has for a long time been looking forward to returning to Samfunnet, downing a drink in Johannes before sitting down in the Bodega with a beer and singing a song or talking rubbish. That wasn’t meant to be! When The Signatory got to Johannes after spilling his entire beer whilst burning his ass on stage, there was one person behind the bar and probably 50 in line! Unacceptable! He thereafter went to the Bodega and then finally Rosehagen, but neither was significantly better. No wonder some of the new students fight or try to go behind the bar to get beer themselves. It’s embarrassing that when all the new students visit Samfunnet for the first time, they’re met with endless lines because serving doesn’t function! No toasting for dry throats, Administrerende Direktør! In his desperation and state of seriously dry throat, The Signatory turned to the place where the beer is always flowing, Faderloftet. He was served at once and could sit down and talk crap. That’s how it’s supposed to be! Unfortunately, it looks like the Piano bar at Faderloftet is the only bar in Ås that actually has gotten its shit together. Hence, Hankattforeningen st.1902 offers the bar committee one free consulting session with our Bartender. If it doesn’t

help we might have to send our Bartender to Samfunnet to ensure that we get served rapidly. If any girls out there desire the Bartender to serve them in a different way, he recently moved in to Suite J310. Wrapping things up, The Signatory would like to inform you that Hankattforeningen st.1902 has gotten a new website this summer. Link: http://www.1902. webnode.com Here any peasant can read about us and realize that we are a bit more sophisticated that you might think. CULTURAL REGARDS _____________________

Cheeeers FFD! Cheeeers Writer! Cheeeers $aving Pig! Cheeeers Shecats! Cheeeers Culturals and Exclusives! Cheeeers Tora and Thorvald! A dark autumn day Foreningen Hunkatten was reinstated as a Cultural counterpart to the man-dominated Ås. Ten strong, fearless and entrepreneurial women stood together against the dominance. The anniversary date was 13. October 1960, and Foreningen Hunkatten with this, is Norway›s oldest sorority. Cheeeers for Foreningen Hunkatten! For 57 Cultural Years Shecats have stood up for true Culture. Traditions have been carried on from Link to link, and Shecats spread Glory and Joy even beyond the Cultural lines. Yo-ho-ho, now the holiday is over! So it is time and fire up a little gunpowder. Fadderuka is on fire, Before anyone has actually entered the door. The barbecue party started on the Pentagon with a bang, and for some Misses it also ended with a bang. During the evening they fell Miss after Miss, but the day after it was on again with waffle sales for CARE. Now the Misses live the good life in dresses a little too tight, so we›ll see you at GG this fall, we›ll be there sweating. The Revue Body 2018 is a difficult goal for an alcoholic student, so the workout will like always be put on hold a few weeks. Are you interested in revue, charity and full benefit from your time at Ås with a wonderful bunch of girls? Are you feminine and noble (or not) and curious about the good student life that is waiting? we invite you to info pre-party on the 8th of September at 19:00 in Herumveien 20A, Swing by for a fun evening! Finally a new semester at Agrarmetropolis. To all new students :! Welcome to Ås! The Academy’s fifth years students would really much have been your shoes, with fresh eyes on all the great things being a student, and Ås has to offer. You have a wonderful time ahead of you! We look back to a successful August with the buddyweek and Graskurs! The Academy did a great job for the Tour de Kringla, and of the Academy’s practitioners were going in fifth gear during the race. Some victory cannot be invoked, but sure a lot of fun in a very short time! We have met many nice people and are looking forward to getting to know the ones we have not yet met. We hope everyone has enjoyed the first month at NMBU as much as we have done! Now it’s back to studies and fraternity life, with new and refreshing experiences at Samfunnet! A new semester also means trials to the Academy, with infovors on the Agenda, followed by a eavening with Wiskey with Gents Academy. We look forward to see you!
An Alfly Alf to everyone.
Welcome, new students of all genders!
Traditions are made to be preserved, and party evenings preserve student traditions to the fullest. Entrance with ribbon, without ribbon, for members, non-members, members with ribbon and members with ribbon but with a sweetheart without ribbon. Not to mention serving cutoff, long queues and Alfully few community services at work, the bodega is once again filled with Alfsong. Collegium Alf has developed into becoming one of the biggest student clubs here at NMBU. When all the members are together, it adds up to 17,3m and 800kg of the student society at Ås. Wrapping things up, The Signatory will give you a Alfully good political tip. Your political standpoint is extremely important these days, think long and hard before you decide. Remember: It takes several years for a calf to become a productive dairy cow
Ås Feministiske studenter was established last autumn. It began as an idea among feminists of Ås who were feeling disconnected and frustrated in a world where patriarchy is prevalent.
Alfly regards KandidAlf, Ole Anders
This worldview manifests in how our global society appears, and it influences every country, every corner of the world and every local society, and Ås is no exception. We see it in how people are discussed and portrayed based on gender, ethnicity, sexuality etc. Ås Feministiske Studenter wants to make a discussion about this. We want to put emphasis on feminism, with intersectionality as an important tool. What’s the situation globally? Nationally? Locally? In our meetings, we discuss everything from the very grandest topics to the very smallest. We have specific “What can we do”-workshops and we also have those purely philosophical talks. We hope there’s many feminists among the new students, of every nationality, and that we’ll see you at our meetings.
NMBU fotoklubb shall stand The sitting board has expressed that they want to resign their positions and a temporary board has taken the control.
