You’ve come to Bergamo, you have a few hours to spare and you’re hungry? For food, but also for history, culture, art and, why not, for fun and relaxation? Bergamo is worth more than 12 hours, but one day may be enough to enjoy all its charm. We want to provide you with the correct “recipe”: a mix of art galleries such as the GAMeC and the Accademia Carrara with historical museums, theaters and churches from every era.
Madrid
Then we add in artisan shops and fashion stores. The dressing is the fascinating medieval Città Alta sprinklde thoroughly with the green of the Parco dei Colli, the Botanical Garden and the pre-Alps of Bergamo, the “Orobie”. We serve it with dishes such as polenta or casoncelli and wash it all down with local wines such as Valcalepio or Moscato Scanzo. Losing yourself among all these courses can be charming, but if you prefer to have some advice on where to go andwhat to see, we have created the right path for you. You will find the Bergamust, everything that you can not miss in Bergamo. Bon appetit!

Museo Bernareggi GAMeC
From Sant’Agostino to the Teatro Sociale
Whether you come by train or by bus, the first glance of the Upper Town from the station is priceless.
It’s time to move on to more substantial “dishes”. The Museum Adriano Bernareggi (8) offers a rundown of sacred Bergamo art from all centuries, up to the present day. If you are still not “full”, don’t be scared and just go the Accademia Carrara (9) : Its collection of paintings by Botticelli, Mantegna, Titian, Raphael, Dürer and many others will not leave you asking for more! Take a tour to the halls of the GAMeC -Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art (10), which will make you enjoy some new and extraordinary tastes, just as tantalizing. Not only art will feed a man: for lunch, on Via San Tomaso or Santa Caterina you can find typical and picturesque places to fill you up; once you are refreshed you can then face the climb to the Città Alta (Upper Town).

And if even here the air and the view are not enough you can always climb to the top of the Gombito Tower (14).
1
VIA
Its benches are great for a digestive break, but if you think you’re ready , we recommend a visit to the casemates of San Michele (12), and if the closed quarters aren’t for you, then the former convent of St. Francesco (13) is more than a valid alternative.
ETA GN
In order to help you start to get used to the complex taste of art, it is definitely worth your time to take a visit to the churches of San Bartolomeo (5), Santo Spirito (6) and San Bernardino (7) with their masterpieces by Lorenzo Lotto.
Now you’re close to the heart of Bergamo: Piazza Vecchia (15). You can see the whole city from the top of the Campanone (16), or enjoy the majesty of the Colleoni Chapel (17). To better understand how people used to live at the time of the Most Serene Republic of Venice, the interactive experience of the Museum of The Venetian Age (18) is a real must. Lotto also makes his statement with his magnificent wooden tables inside Santa Maria Maggiore (19), and if the appetite for churches still hasn’t left you, the Duomo (20) is waiting for you next to it. Finally, you just have to choose if you prefer to have dinner in one of the many places in the romantic alleys of the medieval hamlet or enjoy the view of the Plain and the Apennines eating your last bite at San Vigilio (21).
NE
Before you throw yourself on the “entree”, we want you to enjoy the fresh taste of the Piacentiniano Lower Town Center (1), a coffee in the elegant bar of the Sentierone (2) , the muscular architecture of Piazza della LIbertà (3) as well as the sweet sounds of the Donizetti Theatre (4).
Soon after the Sant’Agostino Gate (11) , on the right, you will find its monastery and the park belonging to it.
